TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Introducing Fishin'
The creaking of the wheels was broken only by the clatter and thumps of the
chests and bottoms of those riding in the dilapidated wagon as it found each rock and
bump in the road. This had grown old for most of those riding along by the close of
the first mile, but one voice still rose from the groans with each new lurch. That
voice was always the same, seemingly oblivious to the sores which most of his friends
were developing.
"Wheee," he laughed as a particularly large rock dropped them back to the hard
dirt road again. The two females on either side of him, glared at him angrily. Sore
rumps and worn tempers rode the knifes edge as the two slender girls were pushed
against the sides of the wagon, digging the wood into their sides for the two
hundredth time today.
Velma was tired of it, and her ever present dagger appeared in her right hand.
Stabbing downward, she felt the reassuring pressure of metal sheathing itself in
flesh. Following that she felt the blade push against her hand as the body that her
blade had invaded reacted to her attack.
"Ow," the once mirthful voice said, a thick hand swatting at his shoulder where
the blade had already slid out and was safely out of his reach. His hand came back
bloody, getting a confused look from the hunk of flesh affectionately known as Joe
Bob. No one had ever accused him of having an abundance of smarts, and this was not
destined to change that. His confused look passed to Suzy Dean on his left, as he
displayed his blood-smeared hand to her.
"Mosquitoes around here must be monstrous. I'm glad that bit you and not me,
I'd likely have to have a priest after a bite like that."
As he looked down at his hand, Suzy shot a smile at Velma, who wore the face of
innocence over the entire sequence of events. Neither were very vindictive people,
but everyone has a limit and ten days of travel was right there for these two
"damsels". Another bump jostled the three, almost as if a cosmic force were lashing
out for their actions toward the harmless Joe Bob.
"Uh. Me glad too. No want you need priest. Dey do things to you. Say no tell
daddy."
In the front seats Bubba and Daisy shared a look of morbid fascination before
focusing their attention on the next rise. Their destination was beginning to peek
over that hill. Their lives were to forever be changed as they entered Arvat.
And so begins the adventures of the Fishin' team of warriors in Arvat, managed
by Master Beru.
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Lord and Ladies of the fine city of Arvat, I Silver Train, your Duelmaster, bid
you greetings. I must keep this brief as I have some training to do. The challenges
for this turn go out to Justice and to Demetren again. Demetren put up a valiant
effort and I didn't fight nearly close to my best. I am going to have to pick it up
if I want to stay here. I do thoroughly enjoy the view from here on top and I do not
want to give up the throne. If I am to lose however, I can not think of two more
worthy opponents to lose to.
Unfortunately, this is all that I have time for this week. If I do return next
week I promise a much more in depth column.
Your Duelmaster,
Silver Train
SPY REPORT
So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. We now have a new top team for all of you guys
to dogpile on. ANGELS OF PAIN now holds the crown and they are betting they can keep
it. Coming up with a solid 2-3-0 outing, FISHERMAN'S WHARF has advanced 6 places in
the rankings. It looks like the guys(?) at ANGELS OF PAIN had a good week as they
went 3-1-0 to put them in 1st place. I guess steroids help! Don't these new
hotshots make you sick (or, if they fought you, hurt)? JAMAICAN SUPERHEROES, on
their very first turn, went 3-1-0. Hey everybody, watch out for SUPERMON, who flew
up 15 points in the rankings after mashing BUBBA like a melon. Keep your eye on this
guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was LARRY, who dropped 14 points after
a disappointing (to say the least) bout with RAGE. Unlike most arenas, SILVER TRAIN
managed to get his challenge off against the 15-15-0 DEMETREN. Going for the gusto
and coming up with aught but bloody knuckles was RILL'S GCSC2's DEMETREN, who was
turned away from the Duelmastership by SILVER TRAIN. 4 out of 5 gladiators surveyed
protect the body, so try and avoid aiming at that location.
Here is other news that is of note. And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't
avoid LUROCIAN GUARD, please raise you hand. Wow. Does ARVAT really have that many
liars? And you guys like to boo me? Well, unsling your rasberries, cause DEVIL
ADVOCATES beats feet every time LUROCIAN GUARD smiles at them. Try farming, eh?
Well dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, FILLIS BOUY would be president.
Although it may be a contest she doesn't want to win. Can any one out there say
'weasel'? Oh well, just saying STRATOSTAR will do. He challenged 33 points down to
trash HERON. Definition of petty: STRATOSTAR beat HERON, a mismatch of 33 points.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Knowing when to use the right tactics at the proper time
is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in ARVAT have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. Its been fun, and I'm sure you enjoyed it (boos). Now that I've got you
worked up for Snide Clemens, I'll be leaving-- The Unknown Spymaster

Horror -- I was too young to die! I was, you cad! I was a perfectly wonderful alive
12-17-9-18-12-6 to 14-18-9-10-19-12-7 Total Parry, still doing normal damage. Who
cares? I was alive! You Angels to all rot in the hot place! -- Bionic Hip
(replaced)
Angels of Pain -- Thank you for helping me get rid of that hip. It was causing me to
limp. -- The Old Man
Personal Legend -- How did I lose that? I surely cannot remember. -- Senile
That rumor of the week was incorrect and inappropriate. Of course I remember my own
address. I just couldn't remember how to get there. But I'm home. So stop that. --

Oh, did I forget to send in strategies this week? -- The Old Man
Fisherman's Wharf??? Does that mean there's good Fishin' around here? -- Daisy, Suzy
Dean, Bubba, Velma
Fish? I wanta fish!! -- Joe Bob
All -- Greetings, and may your hooks always catch the catfish of your choice!! --
Master Beru and Fishin'
Disillusioned and The Old Man -- I feel your pain over the Constipation, although I
do wonder at your reluctance to move on now that it is gone.... Sorry to hear about
your Hip getting broken by Horror. -- Master Beru
Lurocian Guard and The Greek Guy -- Another chance to cross swords with you. I look
forward to it. I have had a lot of fun in the arenas that I am in with you. --
Master Beru
Saratoga Glory and The Trainer -- What are you training for? Marathon? Olympics?
Just trying to sort this out. Hope my Fishin' team can help with the aquatic events.
-- Master Beru
Jorja -- You runnin' Fisherman's Wharf? You are the sole reason I was startin to
feel bad about leavin' 78. Guess I can get my Jorja fix here instead. :) -- Master
Beru
Gelen -- You know, I never appreciated standing up to my knees in icy water in the
middle of winter before, but I can see now that a lot of good things can be said
about it. -- Heron
P.S. For instance, there are fish.
Rage -- I'd be nuts to stand in front of someone in that kind of temper for more than
a few seconds, and despite all evidence to the contrary (such as that I became a
gladiator), I am not nuts. -- Sarlow
Topiary -- You mean, like the trees that are carved into the shapes of people and
animals and stuff? Cool! I like carving things, so I'll help keep you in shape. --
Peter Piquin
Karlrak -- What an eager young man you are, and so tall! Ravishing. -- Fillis Bouy
Demetren -- Again, great fight. I need to get back to practicing if I am to stay
here. -- Silver Train
Roland -- Now that was a heck of a fight! There are few that I've seen take such
punishment and keep on coming for more. It certainly was worthy of being most
popular. A salute to you, my good sir. -- Stratostar
Senile -- That was quite a workout. I am fortunate to have won. -- Personal Legend
Peter Piquin -- Ouch! Take it easy on me with that pig sticker. I've got a family
to think about one day...maybe. -- Topiary
Jorja, the Dark One and the Old Man -- Thank you all very much for the warm welcome
back. I appreciate it. -- the Trainer
The Sentinel -- I hope you hurry back. -- the Trainer
Old Man and Disillusioned Stable -- Condolences on Bionic Hip. I must admit that I
was surprised to win, much less kill him. Of course all of our Guild, while not
seeking to kill, run a bit more bloodthirsty when challenged--to discourage our
enemies. I await your bloodfeud. -- Horror
The Trainer -- Thank you for the kind words. I suppose that I am a "rare total
parry" since my favorite learns are riposte and decisiveness--in that order. I keep
being told that I am quite the mutant. -- Justice
Larry & Lars -- You guys keep the "L" away from us!!! That hurt! -- Bill Berith &
Jerry Hahn
Rumor of the Week -- Caesar was seen signing a contract with an area craftsman to
sculpt several warriors out of stone. Looking to create Stone Golems of his own to
fight in the arena, mayhap?

The Council of Lords would like to propose a rule change in ADM and Primus. We
propose that Lord Protectors ranked "Grand Champions" and below (ADM) and "The Tower
Guard" and below (Primus) be allowed to fight in the Dark Arena. This would not
impact the top rankings or title match. Any managers who never got his fill or shot
at fighting Gateway monsters would have it as an option. We believe it might spark
some interest in the ADM/Primus realm for some managers. If interested, speak up in
the newsletters or on forums under the "rules changes" thread and let RSI know. This
could even be something to try for 12 months and then be re-evaluated. What say you,
managers of Ghea? -- The Icelord sends....

HDFA Mission Statement
"Show me the money!"
This is the battle cry of a newly formed collection of like-minded individuals:
The High Dolla' Free Agent$. We are not a tough guy alliance: No...we offer no
battle without reward. We search for victory and the prizes and accolades that
follow. We are motivated by winning and will freely use whatever means necessary to
obtain our currency. No stuffy rules, no mandates, no constitutions, no leaders,
only a few objectives:
1) Win as often as possible
2) Celebrate freely and revel in your victories; the more meaningless the
victory the more we celebrate. Highsiding and chest thumping are encouraged.
Ostentatious endzone celebrations with prop usage are encouraged, regardless of
fines, penalties, suspensions or arrest by local authorities. It is important to let
your opponent know how great you are; more importantly, you must let your own
alliance mates know how great you are.
This is a 1-up alliance, let the performance of your fellow Free Agent$ motivate
you. If a Free Agent wins a TV, win 2; if a Free agent wins a contest, win a more
prestigious one.
