DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Abbie Donn was Duelmaster once again.
She smiled, thinking of her youth and even early career in the arena. No one,
not even Abbie herself, ever thought that she would make it this far. It was the
culmination of years of effort, hard work and training.
Almost equally amazing to Abbie was that she had a boyfriend. Well, man friend,
anyway. Being 6' 8" tall, Abbie dwarfed 99% of the men in the world. But Heron
didn't seem to care. It wasn't that they were promised to each other or anything
like that, but they had been out to dinner several times and he took her fishing
once. Which was fun, even though they didn't catch anything.
But Abbie never expected to even go on one date, much less several with the same
man. It was... nice.
Abbie couldn't be happier.
As she sat, reflecting, the door to the Duelmaster's private suite swung open
and Lil Ethe came in brandishing a piece of parchment with a crimson wax seal.
"Abbie, it's here! Your papers have arrived from the Isle! You're a Lord
Protector!"
With that Abbie's peace was shattered. Off to the Isle? She always wanted to
go to the Isle and flaunt her status. Certainly she wasn't good enough to compete
there, but members of the Dark One's stables were always welcome--each was given a
private suite on the Island and a nice pension to pay for expenses. It was a
lifetime retirement package. She would still get to spar with the up and comers and
possibly even earn a role as a coach for one of the super skilled youngsters.
But Heron wouldn't leave Arvat. He was a fisherman by nature and needed to be
near his boat and nets. There was no way he would leave his life.
And she wouldb& miss him.
Abbie grabbed her cloak and headed out to the street. She had a lot of thinking
to do.
SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster here with my bag to give you the news on last
week's fights. Hey everybody, watch out for MALIGNANT TUMOR, who flew up 24 points
in the rankings after mashing E. BLISS like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. Ya
know, some days it doesn't pay to walk out on the sands. E. BLISS lost to MALIGNANT
TUMOR and drops 15 points. In front of all the crowds, UNBREAKABLE took the
Duelmaster's crown for hers own. I give the bum two weeks. 4 out of 5 gladiators
surveyed protect the body, so try and avoid aiming at that location.
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the ARVAT arena. And hey,
kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid DEVIL ADVOCATES, please raise you hand. Wow.
Does ARVAT really have that many liars? For those of you who like math, try this
one: DEVIL ADVOCATES + Weapons That go Boom = ANGELS OF PAIN + Avoid City. Well
dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, SARLOW would be president. Although it may
be a contest he doesn't want to win.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! GREED says to his dog--'Who should I fight this week?'.
Dog says 'MOUNTAIN TROLL'. So the guy dies. Moral? Put lying dogs to sleep. In
the 'Oops, What Have I Done?' category, ABBIE DONN was mashed by UNBREAKABLE, who let
ABBIE DONN know that killing members of CHRISTIAN ROCK is a no-no. Ask not the elves
for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly buggers, eh?
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
you whom I have not offended yet. Okay, so I may not be the world's best comedian,
but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. And remember, you can pick your
