Larkin here once again, with more interviews from the tourney. This time I'm
talking to a new manager, so new he doesn't even have a manager name. "Sir... what
would you like me to call you, by the way?"
"Why do you have to call me anything? I don't understand why you want to
interview me. There are lots of great managers here who could probably tell you
stuff--"
"I'm looking for a new perspective, the point of view of someone who is just
starting out with the gladiatorial games."
"Oh. Well, I guess that would be me."
"Absolutely right! Tell me, what do you think of the tourney? This is your
first, right?"
"Right, my first," the young man agreed. "And it's GREAT! Everyone is just
great here! I mean, most of these managers, they're, like, legends, you know?
Everybody's heard of them, and they have stables of HUNDREDS of gladiators, and
they've been polishing their tricks for YEARS, and I didn't figure I had much of a
chance, you know?"
"The popular view is that no matter how much you know, the arena can always
throw a surprise at you--"
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard that. I don't know if I believe it, but I've heard it.
But that isn't the best thing about this tourney. The best thing is that everyone
here has been GREAT. Or else I didn't meet them--the ones that might not have been.
But I think I met just about everyone, and--"
"And they were great. I'm glad. But perhaps you could tell our readers a
little more, maybe tell them how these experienced managers were great to you?"
"Well, yeah, okay. It's that everyone was so friendly and helpful, see? The
ENTIRE Consortium talked to me about warrior design, for instance. I learned a lot
there. And, well, there was Mannequin, and The Greek Guy, and I actually met
Manager, too! And they were all really helpful. Advice, you know, and charts, and
all that stuff that was so confusing. It was just the best experience! I'm going to
do it again, for sure!"

SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of ARVAT! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team DEVIL ADVOCATES was
unseated this week as APOCALYPSE moved up from 3rd ranking to take the top spot with
a 2-3-1 record for the round. KILLER JR caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial
commission as he skillfully bested DEE N. EMMY and was awarded 18 points in
recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, VENOMOUS GIGOLO put down
CARNAGE, causing him to lose 9 points of recognition in the process. Most watched of
the fights this week, the spotlight was on BANDIT PRINCE as he bore arms against the
Dark Arena Challenge of reigning Duelmaster MALIGNANT TUMOR. Not for nothing has
MALIGNANT TUMOR in the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's throne, and this week he's
proven his combat skill yet again. Heed this! A seer has warned that if exactly 6
die in duels this week, the whole city shall perish! Just remember...5 or 7!
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city ARVAT. I saw one fighter that warriors avoided when this week's
challenge seeking began. DEVIL ADVOCATES is feared. This much I can say. If you
didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of ANGELS OF
PAIN last week. Busy avoiding DEVIL ADVOCATES? Loose talk at the arena has reached
my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters are after PLAGUE. Watch
your back! I can not but mention with disdain the name of RAMPAGE who this week
posted a challenge to a warrior a full 10 points below in the rankings. I thought
RAMPAGE showed great skill and promise when he overcame SARLOW. All right, so I
slept through it! Big deal!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. MALIGNANT TUMOR has sworn to take up
religion upon living to tell of his recent bout with the Dark Arena horrors. A rare
thing indeed! Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is
sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till next we
meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different
story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Ghost of Embezzling Scribe -- Well, I guess you shouldn't have been embezzling, then.
And what was that deal with bringing a pen in to fight with? -- Erin Yees
Snide Clemens took the dagger to write with.
Sarlow -- Thanks for the skills. That was a big boost. Mind if I try to snag a few
more? I have one more fight and then I'm off until tournament time... -- Rampage
RUMOR OF THE WEEK -- Apparently a body was found out on the moors this week.
According to local authorities the body was preserved by peat and was identified as
legendary area pirate Legedemain Goldfoot. He was known to plunder the area about
200 years ago until he disappeared. It seems that he was assassinated by one of his
crew. Rumors of a treasure map found on the body persist.
And don't forget the ghost! Every good dead pirate with possible treasure map
comes with a ghost. It's in the unwritten rules! -- Arenamistress Sugar
Dark One -- I considered including here a couple of personals referring to fights in
Free Blades between my guys and yours, but... mine lost both fights and say they'd
rather not talk about it. Oh, well. -- Jorja
Rampage -- You sure did cause me pain! I can't believe how painful it was when you
extracted those five skills. I may never be the same again. -- Sarlow
Ihao -- I've been thinking it over, and my guess is that your name is an anagram for
something hideous. I'm probably happier not knowing, even though I keep trying to
figure it out. -- Fillis Bouy
P.S. I Hears An Owl? That can be a bad omen.
Famine -- Yeah, well, I'd rather have a plate of hash. -- Big Minnow

Gluttony -- At least it was chocolate. -- Nuparine

I've got a strong will, I can do this. -- Sarlow
