Notes from the arena champ.
E. Bliss was very late. Late getting to the arena for her last fight ever.
Late packing for her trip to the Isle. Late for lunch. It was just one of those
days.
Hurriedly, she waved down one of the servants as he passed her room. "Tarnil,
can you please see that these bags get brought to the coach. I need to leave right
after I return from the games."
The old fellow nodded and reached for the luggage. "Certainly, mistress. Will
you be attending the supper that they are holding in your honor or will you be
skipping it due to the scheduling issues?"
"I need to stop by at least and give a quick speech. Otherwise it would be
unseemly. But I'll be back quickly. Everything needs to be ready."
It was amazing how fast everything was happening. After over a year spent in
Arvat where time passed at the pace of a leisurely garden snail she was no longer
used to rushing about. It all started the past week when a courier from the Isle of
the Eye popped up just after her fight with her invitation papers. That, in itself,
would have been unusual, even though she was not intending to continue her arena
career. Moments later another invitation came to join the Dark One's personal army.
It was a way to make more money and it gave her something to do in the meantime while
she decided where to settle down. The only thing was the timetable for arrival at
the new training facility left no time to dawdle.
She was going to have to rush out after her fight, make a quick appearance at
the supper, rush back to the guildhouse and head off. It would have been easier if
there was a mage in the guild currently -- then she could have teleported -- but none
of the current gladiators had much talent in that area. So it had to be the coach.
Even then, at the pace she needed to keep she would have to stop at least twice to
change horses. Fortunately there were many allied guildhouses across the land.
E. Bliss grabbed up her scimitar and shield and headed out.
The life of a gladiator was never easy.
SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit
back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. Hey everybody,
watch out for MURDER, who flew up 19 points in the rankings after mashing CATFISH
ANNIE like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. Ya know, some days it doesn't pay to
walk out on the sands. SARLOW was defeated by CARNAGE and drops 6 points. Our
battling duelmaster E. BLISS has managed to hold the title, fending off FILLIS BOUY's
none too subtle advances. Better luck next time, FISHERMAN'S WHARF. 4 out of 5
gladiators surveyed protect the body, so try and avoid aiming at that location.
Here is other news that is of note. And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't
avoid DEVIL ADVOCATES, please raise you hand. Wow. Does ARVAT really have that many
liars? For those of you who like math, try this one: DEVIL ADVOCATES + Weapons That
go Boom = ANGELS OF PAIN + Avoid City. Well just about everybody wants a piece of
SARLOW, who was this week's most challenged warrior.
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Remember: alliances are great, but try and take your ally
in the arena with you and see what happens.
Well, there's the manager of the ARVAT giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Well, there goes another Spy Report.
