TEAM SPOTLIGHT
The massive black gate had remained sealed for five long years. The imposing
stone walls, with their brooding gargoyle watchers, had weathered well the with the
sands of time... Since Turn 29, the towering Roman guild house had gradually
increased in size, stature and grandeur on its journey towards the pinnacle of
greatness. The nearby Temple of Caesar, an enormous structure with five hundred
steps leading to its blood stained alter, had remained empty, it's eternal flame
apparently extinguished. An intimidating symbol of former Roman power and glory. Of
a an era that had passed, some say, into the dustbin of Arvat history. But no
worthless local dared enter, or even gaze upon its magnificent architecture for long.
Its thousands of worshippers, once flocking to poor, swampy Arvat from the distant
reaches of Alastari, had ceased their regular pilgrimages. Hundreds of coolies had
perished building the towering edifice, enduring grueling conditions in the hot Arvat
sun, toiling night and day on the grandiose project. It was an aggressive
construction effort, employing thousands of workers, on a scale never before been
witnessed in the city of Arvat.
The locals stayed clear of the brooding Roman citadel that towered in their
midst. Uncorroborated rumors occasionally spread throughout the city regarding
lights and secretive activity within its walls. Where had Caesar gone? Was he
within? Why did he not show himself? Had he abandoned his flock? Women wailed at
the walls of his house, peasants left offerings at the steps to the Temple of Caesar
and warriors, brave of heart, bemoaned the loss of one of the city's most renowned
managers.
Within the monstrous compound, resplendent with some of the finest workmanship
and architecture in all of Alastari, time stood eerily still. Caesar's opulent
facilities lay in disrepair, dust and cobwebs covering the many buildings located
within. No longer did the servants of Caesar toil at cleaning, scrubbing, polishing
and maintaining the grandeur of his legendary house. The expansive, finely manicured
gardens, once considered one of the wonders of Alastari, were absent of Caesar's
gardeners, coolies from distant Zukal who had hazarded great perils to toil in the
service of Caesar. No longer did they pick the fruit from the trees in the sprawling
orchards and rolling vineyards located on Caesar's vast estate. No longer did they
serve beneath such benevolence.

SPY REPORT
Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly ARVAT games. Former top team SECRET SQUIRRELS was
unseated this week as OLD GEEZERS moved up from 4th ranking to take the top spot with
a 3-2-0 record for the round. There were bitter words at SECRET SQUIRRELS'
guildhouse after a 1-4-0 showing this week which dropped the stable into 5th. Dark
Arena anyone? Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner! Witness
how this week YOUNG STUDS went 1-4-0 to move up 5 in the rankings. Did only my eyes
note the 4-1-0 record which GASTROPUB managed to post this round? I don't doubt that
such a record will draw challengers! GROUND CHUCK caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested MURDER BY NUMBERS and was awarded 29
points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, DEVLIN DE TALIS put
down MAID IN A LAB, causing her to lose 11 points of recognition in the process. As
is fitting, the most sought after warrior on the challenge boards this week was none
other than Duelmaster NOT FOR HIRE himself. Unwilling to wait upon the will of
others, Duelmaster NOT FOR HIRE challenged SLUETHY LU last week in a match to decide
the fate of the throne. Although SLUETHY LU made a valiant effort, it did not
suffice to topple the reign of victorious NOT FOR HIRE. Informants "close" to the
city champion have told me that he never fights without pantyhose on beneath his
armor. Watch out!
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. My inside sources tell me that the
team to beat in ARVAT these days is SECRET SQUIRRELS. At least, most blades in town
are looking to avoid them. Apparently the stalwarts of DEVIL ADVOCATES are catching
the bulk of jests down at the challenging board for their large share of the avoids.
A match that raised a few eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that AQUARIUM
HEAD HERB posted a challenge against the more highly recognized THE KING. The
results, you ask? Well, the firebrand AQUARIUM HEAD HERB bested THE KING. Remember
warriors, this is the discipline of steel.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. The warrior's path is harsh. For
mediocrity there is but one reward--death. This past week MURDER BY NUMBERS, at
20-23-0, departed ARVAT forever. Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the
miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in ARVAT. Nice atmosphere you have here! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of
