TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Arenamistress Sugar walked along the waterside just north of Arvat's harbor,
sighing heavily. The land did not end in a beach of clean white sand here, or a
golden sandy beach, or with a band of shining pebbles, or even a grassy bank. It was
mud. Sticky, not very clean, rather stinky mud. It would never appeal to, for
instance, Debby Tonte. This was bad, because Sugar really liked Debby Tonte. She
found the spy reporter full of good suggestions about tanning, and the best colors of
nail polish to go with one's complexion, and good tips on getting blood stains out of
purple robes. Sugar had even persuaded the bartender at the Knot of Eels to offer
drinks with umbrellas in them. Not that there was room for much of anything in the
cup once the umbrella was in there, but it was the principle of the thing. Debby
Tonte had been polite, but she hadn't lingered longer than it took to drink one cup
of Phishjuice with an umbrella in it.
It was discouraging.
Dear Arrnie, that is, Duke Arrnet, wanted to put Arvat on the map. That's what
he said, but of course, it was already on the map. Sugar knew that. She'd even seen
it on a map. He meant, at least, she thought he meant that he wanted it to be
important. Or interesting. Something more than a fishing village.
Sugar sighed again and plucked a flat shell from the mud, sending it skipping
out over the sullen waters of the Storm Sea. One. Two. Three. Four, and... gosh!
It was caught by a tentacle!
She took two steps back away from the water's edge, drawing her sword. She
might have a figure every bit as good as Debby Tonte's, or even better, but she had
been made Arenamistress because she was comfortable with violence. And this might
just be a time for violence.
The tentacle coiled and straightened, flinging the shell back with the speed of
an arrow, or one of those bullets (she thought that they used slings for them) that
managers talked about sometimes. Gauging its trajectory, she swept her sword up and
deflected it back out over the lake. The tentacle caught it again and flung it back.
Sugar danced a little farther down the beach--the aim was off--and returned it. This
was like a game! Maybe that would be the thing to put Arvat on the map:
Volleyshells over the lake. On the third return, the tentacle's toss was a little
short, and she had to come down to the water's edge and even a step beyond to reach
it.
Another tentacle coiled around her ankle, drawing her toward deeper water.

there are sorrows to drown for THE DELIRIUM RULES, whose 0-3-0 this turn dropped them
by 8 into 10th. DEATH BY DESIGN stable has parlayed this turn's 3-1-1 into a 7 space
move up the rankings. This brings them up to 5th place. Good work, guys! The
OTTOMAN EMPIRE guild has had a 4-0-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the future.
You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, OOZING OLIVER
fought HEADCOUNT and gained 21 points and contributed to THE WALKING DEAD's 2-3-0.
HEADCOUNT has lost to OOZING OLIVER, falling 17 points, while helping make CON +
INSULT a 2-3-0 turn. Defending his title for another turn, NYDMOR WYNZE kept SECRET
SQUIRRELS' warrior, MAID IN A LAB, from claiming the throne. Can someone confirm a
rumor for me? I hear the top team makes their losing fighters do dishes at The Warty
Toad until they win. Maybe?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. SECRET SQUIRRELS has cause to stand tall, as
they were ARVAT's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat.
And avoiding SECRET SQUIRRELS more than any other team we find DEVIL ADVOCATES.
ARVAT, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? Well, sports fans,
take notice that GRIMSCOR from BLACK COLOSSUS was ARVAT's most challenged warrior
this turn. In a brave attempt, COE RUPTOR from DEVIL ADVOCATES challenged up 24
points to fight TENACIOUS D from the STRAGETY, DAMMIT! stable. COE RUPTOR perhaps
got his just desserts, seeing as he won victory over TENACIOUS D and ended up with 96
recognition points.
A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only once. Wise men know this to

a temporary Tournament Arena, DM 85. If you requested that your team be placed in a
specific arena, it has already transferred to that arena. Effective immediately, any
teams placed in DM 85 and not transferred out to another arena, will be automatically
deleted a month after the tournament. If you have questions about any of your teams,
