SPY REPORT
Much has changed in NIATOLI ISLAND since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf
Modeen adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. Woof!
PHILANTHROPISTS were a bunch of dogs after HALCYON DAZE got through with 'em! 1st
ain't so sweet as 2nd! Hmmmph! I always thought CHAOTICDISORDER was an over-rated
team and they proved it with a 0-0-0! Up 'n down. Up 'n down. Rankings always
change. Up 'n down. I think I'm gonna be... Well, HALCYON DAZE's 2nd moved them up
to 3-2-0 place. What's with DEMCK DESHRET? He actually beat NIATOLI ISLAND's
CONVICTED THIEF, and walked away with 13 more points from the fight. Laughs were big
at VEGGIES while they watched PEA POD clobber IZMAR ODEMIS. He lost 6 points and got
bruised from objects thrown from the stands. LONIGAN was reminded on the sands why
LIONESS is Duelmaster. I suppose you want to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about
your fellow fighters? Tough!
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. The
most avoided team was HALCYON DAZE. The bums at SACKETT'S & CO. couldn't face the
challenges from HALCYON DAZE! No excuse for that! What do people see in THIMBELL?
His 12-28-0? THE SEWING CIRCLE ain't talkin', but he's got 64 points. I hate going
to the effort of writing about the kind of fights that SPROUTS SURPRISE gets in. He
fights people like KORIENELLIS, 11 points below. I thought SPROUTS SURPRISE showed
great skill and promise when he dispatched KORIENELLIS. All right, so I slept
through it! Big deal!
Warriors of NIATOLI ISLAND unite. You have only your games to lose! Is it my
imagination, or are fighters getting younger every day? To die so young, so
gloriously!
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? All
work and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.

P.S. Don't you hate it when you strain every muscle for power and I just flick the
blow away? Of course, you had your revenge, because I strained everything not to
show that I was straining, and you creamed me with the next blow. But the win makes
up for it, I love wins, and not least because victory is the BEST healer in the
arena.

Sprouts Surprise -- I'll say it was a surprise! It sprouted so fast, I could
actually see it growing! Unnerving. -- Korienellis the unnerved
P.S. I was especially taken aback when the sprouts began to eat the cheese.
Eggplant -- You are the nastiest vegetable I've encountered this month, worse even
(for the moment) than okra. And obviously possessed of deadly intent: jaw, chest,
head, forehead, face, groin, neck. I figure I was lucky to get out of the arena

Lord, or as it might be Lady Malodorousreek -- It was suggested by some fool at the
Commission with more hair than sense that I should wish you "godspeed" to the Isle
and give you some land. This is a bad plan on two counts:
First, the existence of a god, any god, is unproven and unprovable, and probably
blasphemous anyway. Further, why should the speed of a god, if such a being exists,
be something you desire? Some alleged gods are very fast, and you would probably
find it uncomfortable, to say the least, if you to travel at that speed. Especially
at this season, with all the ice crystals in the upper atmosphere--imagine crashing
into them at "godspeed"! Clearly, to wish you "godspeed" would be an act of
hostility and disapproval.
And second, I have no land; I am a younger son with an apartment here in the
arena complex. The arena has no land, it belongs to Second Bank of Niatoli, which
has in fact been threatening to take the said land back for defaulted payments on the
mortgage. The lord and people of Niatoli do have land, but they refuse to give it
away to anyone, much less someone who is about to depart this island at the speed of
a god. And even if, by some preposterous chance (on the order of the chance of
proving the existence of a god and winning his, her, or its favor), land were to be
available, and someone was so soft-headed as to give it to you, what would you do
with it? If it is to generate any income, and why else would one burden oneself with
land and its demands, it must be tended and watched over constantly. You will not be
here to do that. Therefore, you do not need land.
I shall, however, take that illogical, human liberty of hoping that the variable
factors, acting randomly, expedite your departure. -- Arenamaster Khagal
P.S. Commission Agent Barango was going to make "an offer you couldn't refuse," but
I dealt firmly with THAT. I won't have that kind of thing going on in MY arena.

The Olympics have arrived!
The Mordanti Olympics, having been gone for six years, have returned to the Mordanti
Alliance, sponsored by Amicitia Primoris. Teams have competed against each other for
recognition and notoriety four times in the past. It is far past time for the fifth
Mordanti Olympics to be held. The Mordanti Olympics shall be held in the Mordant
arena (DM-1) from May 1st (T544) through Oct 30 (T557). There will be a
'registration period' lasting until T543, where teams will be allowed to register by
activating in Mordant and declaring their participation in the personals. Rules will
be posted in the Mordant arena (DM-1) newsletter no later than T543, but shall be
available online before then. An announcement will be made as to where they will be
posted. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
