Most managers were assigned sparse accommodations on the western edge of Niytyole Island, but the Allied Axis being recognized for their abilities and prominence were set up with a substantial manor called Greywand's Gift to house their members and serve as nerve center for their many teams spread across Alastari. Over a decade ago when the Riorni hordes attempted to sweep across Alastari the Allied Axis' leadership was crucial in turning the tide, so much so that Lady Greywand had the manor erected in thanks. A large oval table sat in the middle of the council chambers with nine high backed chairs, each chair emblazoned with the moniker of the nine members who sit upon the Allied Axis leadership. The walls displayed trophies from tournaments, tapestries of great deeds, and the memory of fallen warriors. Den walked along the wall looking at notations of alliances that once stood upon the sands of Niytyole against the mighty Allied Axis, names of the past and naught but fading shadows of life. He smiled while viewing the placard noting the Number Crunching Alliance recalling the vicious brawls and verbal repartee they offered, but as with the rest they are gone and he is still there. Others like the Iron Council, Deep Water League, and the Brotherhood of the Blade were all gone as well. In spite of their promises to bring the AA to its knees, the lights still glowed at Greywand's Gift while all others had been extinguished years ago. A slight chuckle escaped his lips as he noted the RIP placard for the Inner Circle alliance, they still fought not realizing that their date of death was already engraved, the walking dead have trouble recognizing that the stink they smell is their own. Bandor the Pure was due in the chamber to bring Den up to speed on a task he was assigned by the AA leadership. Long ago graduated to the Isle of the Eye, the AA's very first graduate, Bandor the Pure worked as their intelligence liaison. He was usually the first to know of anything that happened in the arenas where the AA exerted their considerable influence. Bandor entered the chamber and raised his hand in greeting, realizing his mistake immediately. Upon hearing the scrape of a foot, in a flash of lightening reflex Den pulled a dagger from his belt and with surgical precision sent it into Bandor's sleeve pinning his hand to the wall. The second dagger was already in his hand before recognizing Bandor. The AA has always lived daggers first and questions second. "Bandor, welcome back, I trust you have found out what we needed, or will there be additional dagger play?" Den asked as he strode towards the great warrior he trained nearly two decades ago. Bandor pulled the dagger from the wall freeing his hand and handed it back to Den with a look of nonchalance. "You know, some people simply say 'Hi' when I walk into a room instead of lobbing daggers without regards to damaging my good looks," Bandor replied showing no signs that he was unnerved. "Indeed, what did your contact within the Gladiatorial Commission tell you?" Den asked. "Well", Bandor began, "It is like you and Bill expected. The poor recruits being sent to the Allied Axis in Shadowspire and here in Niytyole are the lowest of the low. While the managers that offer neck rubs and back massages at tournaments are given the best recruits you are receiving the flotsam and jetsam of Alastari. Our recruits are often taken from the jails, dungeons, or directly from the Inner Circle, thus some of the worse warriors available. When you get nothing to start with, it is inevitable to end with nothing. If not for the incredible management skill of our alliance I shudder to think where we would be." Den stroked his chin with a hand that has done harm to almost everything that has walked, talked, or crawled at one time or another as he replied, "This is how the GC evens the field, they hold us down while they favor their favorites. Nevertheless, we will endeavor to persevere, eventually the outcry from the very public they hope to protect will be loud enough to force them to finally offer a recruit with an intelligence above average and maybe even a warrior that is not seven feet tall. Everyone wants a winner, and the AA is filled with them. Good work, what else have you learned?" Bandor pulled a handful of hazelnuts from the satchel he carried and began breaking the shells and eating the meat he found inside. "Well, some of the villagers at the docks are complaining very loudly about Crambus." "What has Crambus done to the dock folk now?" asked Den. "Well, it seems they are outraged because Crambus was down there yesterday stomping kittens," Bandor replied. "When you say that Crambus was stomping kittens, are you telling me that he was actually down there stomping on kittens?" Den asked with a curious eyebrow raised but also noticing the bulging satchel of hazelnuts. "Well, that is exactly what I am telling you," replied Bandor, "From what I gather he was stomping them with what one witness described as 'unrestrained glee'. Do you want me to throw some gold at the problem and make it go away?" "Only the vanity of the poor and rough sodden would be so brazen as to assume they know the destiny or desires of kittens. I cannot imagine that Crambus was so stealthy that he leapt quickly and silently from the shadows upon unsuspecting kittens and then stomped them without their prior knowledge. Kittens are quick and clever, Crambus is neither. I cannot fathom what makes a kitten choose his path, but how can we question the fact that they did indeed choose a path that resulted in a foot trample by Crambus. This could be a death migration of kittens, fully intending to find the end by rushing head and tails into the trampling path of Crambus. Rest assured Bandor, it is not you or I that can hope to understand the life journey of kittens or to assign guilt to Crambus, and if we cannot how can the people of the docks hope to be enlightened beyond our ability? Impossible and I find it insulting that they would think such. Bring the Hodar down to the docks on the evening and have him knock a few kids down, then ask the dock folk a simple question 'Kittens or kids?' and see which they choose." "Consider it done," Bandor said as he lobbed a nut into the air catching it in his mouth. He was not looking forward to bringing the Hodar to the docks, the half- wit would only mutter a single word, his own name over and over again. Certainly another recruit from the halls of the Inner Circle. "Have you heard if General Ikillu has departed from the northern armies?" Den asked while staring at the handful of nuts Bandor was cracking. "Well, nothing yet, but there has been a sighting of Conquerer Grott, the normal stories as you can imagine, a barkeep beaten to death for asking him what he drank and a crippled child torn asunder for asking him for a coin. It is said that the Old's 98 comes and goes as it pleases through the land," Bandor replied as he gripped a large nut between his thumb and forefinger pinching it open freeing the treasure found inside. "Only God will save the villagers if Grott decides to enter back into the arena life again. What have you heard about the recent influx of teams here at our Island?" Den queried while becoming cognizant of his rumbling belly. "Well, it seems that after bragging about showing up here and putting us in our place the pathetic Assur is not coming after all. He works in excuses like an artist works in fine oils, always lamenting about how busy he is and how difficult his menstrual cramps are," Bandor said as he weighed a nut in either hand finally selecting the larger of the two to break and eat. "Hmmm, I am guessing that his no-contact order with children is still in effect and since the arena here in Niytyole is near the school he would not be able to manage his team. I guess when you are a pervert you don't get to fight everywhere you want," Den replied with a knowing nod. "Where did you get those hazelnuts?" "Deeders brought in a whole wagon, he would only let me have this bag full though," Bandor answered while digging his hand deep in the satchel and pulling out a fist filled with hazelnuts, the gleam in his eyes evident. "Oh," Bandor started "A General Bashur came to our Island talking tough and wanted to be sure you knew he started a team here." "Who is General Bashur?" Den questioned. "I don't know," answered Bandor. "Me either, probably just another pathetic loser that will be here for two cycles then runs away when he realizes we fight with high kill desires. But, just to be safe, until he leaves keep the sheep locked up at night," Den confidently ordered. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===FREE BLADES REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 9 ZUKAL (turn 756): THE TALL MAN of BLUE MOON (Jorja, mgr.) Someone told me that being the top gladiator in Niytyole Island was a big honor. Well, so far it is kinda nice. They want me to sit in some big, cushy chair and watch all the little people fight before I get my chance to bash skulls. I told 'em that if I ain't fightin', then I'm drinkin'! I had 'em move the so called throne to my favorite pub, The Sailor's Knot. It's my favorite 'cause it's the closest to the docks and therefore the first one I found when I hit this island. Actually it's one of the few places I get to drink and fight! Kinda reminds me of home! Yeah, I was the middle child of eleven and the only girl. I gave as good as I got and when yer raised by your older brothers, how else are ya gonna turn out? Now don't think I'm gonna open up and spill my life story here. I don't know you and I don't wanna! You're ugly! Either sit down and buy me a drink or don't and prepare to eat fist! Hey! You tryin' to peak down my blouse?!?!?!?! Duelmistress Brunhylda SPY REPORT It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. Say good-bye to DEMONSPAWN, as they are pushed from the coveted top team spot by the XXX BANDITS stable. Coming up with a solid 3-1-0 outing, BRASH BROS XMAS has advanced 5 places in the rankings. What does the Duelmaster and Piltdown Man have in common? They are both the most challenged apes in human history! Heyheyhey! It's a proud day for the CLASSIC CHARACTERS stable, as their warrior, HUSTLER, ascended the Duelmaster's throne. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger halberd! But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle! And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid BAD COMPANY, please raise you hand. Wow. Does NIATOLI ISLAND really have that many liars? For those of you who like math, try this one: BAD COMPANY + Weapons That go Boom = OBSIDIAN HALL + Avoid City. Challenging down 22 points was TASSADAR. Pretty soon he'll be using two shields and selling 'T.P.: The only way to clean up' pins. Here is a definition of happiness: GENOVYFA subdued TASSADAR to go from 34 to 55 recognition points. In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, LEAPING LEPER went after THE HAND COLLECTOR, who was higher by 19 points. Well, when the dust settled, LEAPING LEPER subdued THE HAND COLLECTOR. MIGHTY KASHITZ of BAD COMPANY had better have a good reason for challenging down 10 points in a challenge which he won. I thought MIGHTY KASHITZ showed great skill and promise when he defeated SKINNY. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal! Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the most interesting, though! Big deal, so POP-A-DOPE got mashed in the Dark Arena. With his face he was more at home with the trolls than with us. (Waka waka). GOT A ROCK defied all odds and slew SHEWISH GIANT in the Dark Arena. The only ones displeased were the buzzards, as SHEWISH GIANT's meat is notoriously tough. Carrion Bird Heaven: THE INTERN was slain by BLACKMOMBA (The true definition of 'Street Pizza'). Congrats to GHOUL GOBLIN for revenging the death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding WAR PIG a bit of dirt). Ask not the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly buggers, eh? Well, there's the manager of the NIATOLI ISLAND giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that 'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some tracks. Its been fun, and I'm sure you enjoyed it (boos). You sicken me. -- Bill Spirit -- An AB with crap attack and defense? You may be on to something. Keep up the good work. -- Bill Den -- Nineth in command? I must have forgot we promoted him. I look so forward to seeing him torment the Apostles once again. -- Bill Pros/Hackers -- We hope your computer skills are far better than your wanting gladitorial skills. -- The warriors of Bash Bros XMas A most unimpressive debut, but the results are more than satisfactory. -- G. Bashur Den's Favorite -- A couple punches to the arm and ya fold like the rest of them. Thanks for keepin' the throne warm fer me! -- Brunhylda Andrew -- I was looking for a little target practice. Thanks for obliging! -- Deviant Monk Tassadar -- Two fights, two awesome criticals, two wins. Care to move it to three each? -- Bleak Slightly Kashitz -- No one goes undefeated in this arena bub! -- Zyro Den -- You were right to leave the best for last. It's best that you get my title correct next time however. That should be Dameon Darkheart, First of His Name, Protector of Niytyole Island, Father of Dragons, Wizard of the 5th Gate, and Lord of your Liverlips! So, umm, editor, I presume, when can we fix the agregious spelling error being perpetrated upon the denizens of this island? Let's get it back to Niytyole! -- DD Don't think so. Fourpros the Slacker -- So, was it the 'hacker' that won last turn? Great entrance into the lion's den, I guess now we understand how the Christians felt when the Romans flung them onto the sands. I don't know who you are, but I do hope you challenge me often. -- Den, High Priest of the Allied Axis and manager of the Big Lake Bandits, it would do you well to learn who I am. Derp City -- I am glad you are gone. -- Den Studcraft -- Congratulations on your 4-1 last turn, with the Inner Circle still in town I would expect more of the same. -- Den Coach -- 'Abnegates'? Really? You may know little of us, but certainly we lack no ability to reason and accept reality, such as the reality that wherever you lay your head disappointment is sure to follow, it is as certain as the points and stares you receive as you wander the streets hoping for pity, a pity that will never come. Did you know that 'hope' is an ineffectual man's dream? Surely you must, for you are that man. It is time for you to wander away, protect your tourney investment and leave our Island. Niytyole is for true managers anyway, where we succeed with skill and patience sprinkled with intellect, 3 attributes you will never hold. Instead, time your losers correctly and hope for the best again. The tournament is just around the corner. Pathetic loser that you are. When you actually believe that you can manage a team full time, then look us up, until then, walk on past and don't lock eyes for that will only get you a rap on the head. Off our Island, that is where you belong, simple little man-boy. -- Den P.S. How do you 'talk a nice nap', if you were not demented with your own idiocy you may not mutter yourself to sleep. Assur -- "Things didn't work out," the exact phrase your parents mutter every day. -- Den General Bashur -- Just because you wear the uniform does not make you a general, perhaps you borrowed that from the Hallowieners during one of your cost-play parties. Lord only knows what happens on that side of the Island. A word of advice, don't step onto the podium if what you have to say will only prove that the fool speaks foolish. Rarely have I seen the entire AA laugh to the point of breathlessness, but your quizzical spotlight brought tears to our wise eyes. We are still not sure what you exactly said, other than you covered every excuse possible for losing a fight. The only excuse you need is that you are matched against a superior opponent and have Bitten off more than you can chew, which is difficult considering your appetite. I doubt you will last ten turns. -- Den Cocky Jock -- Hodar. -- Hodar Genovyfa -- Wasn't that an awesome display of what I desire? -- Immoral Desire Studcraft -- I am still learning but soon if you keep sending bloodfueds my way I will no longer be the student and will instead become the teacher. -- The Intern Inner Circle -- Let me guess, this General Bashur is a friend of yours? You think you guys are the masters of Niytyole? Ridiculous, the only thing you are masters of is baiting, and I am certain there is not an equal to you in that department. -- Den Spirit -- Great is my disappointment that Den's Favorite survived. I have connections on the Isle, know that this is not over. -- Den D.D. -- Is that the initials to your name or the grades you received in physical education? -- Den Paladin -- Are you rethinking that Speed commitment? -- Den 10 September 14 Announcing the 1st Veterans Ballot for the Shadowspire Hall of Fame.
