                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Well, well, I have staunchly defended the title of Dueltoodude against the
advances of M. Chardinee. This was sooo difficult. (Hope I haven't cursed myself in
saying that!) It was, of course, absolutely necessary that Chardinee not get his hot
little hands on the title-- You know why it's called the title? Because when you
achieve it, you get to hold the actual title to the arena in your hands. It doesn't
have your NAME on it, you understand, but you do get to hold it. And even without
your name, well, you can do things with that title, if you know a few tricks. Which,
let me tell you, all my sources say that Chradinee DOES. Besides which, he's a
Karnhorn, and you know what THEY are like. Let one of THEM get his hands on the
title to Murska arena, and next thing you know there'll be sacrifices to Kjarran
right in the middle of town. Okay, on the edge of town. Still, it's the principle
of the thing.
     Therefore, the staunch defense.
And, since the said defense was successful, and *I* am the one holding the title
today, I'm declaring a holiday and party here tonight. All seven of my fellow
Murskan gladiators are invited.

                                      Gwalchmai

                                      SPY REPORT

It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! CHILDREN OF LLYR had cause to celebrate, after BRANGWYN got 12 points
by beating PADRE. Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, BRANGWYN was winsome,
after beating PADRE and seeing him lose 11 points. M. CHARDINEE found out that
MURSKA isn't a democracy. You've gotta be the best to be Duelmaster here! Word has
it one team in MURSKA is using psychics to predict wins. They lead a charmed life!
So much to report, so little time! Like a horde of jackals fleeing from the
lion, so did the "warriors" in MURSKA avoid THE BEARS. The warriors of THE BEARS
found their efforts at combat frustrated as DEVILS OF THE DEEP apparently had more
important things to do than fight. Is it charming personality? Conversational
abilities? Good oral hygiene? Whatever it is, OISAN is the most challenged warrior.
The moving sword slashes, and having slashed, moves on... Oh hard! that to
strike a flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
Leave me now, you base fools! My fingers tire and I fear my incessant prattling
may cause unfair judgement upon my impeccable character. MURSKA, I leave you now.
The Duelmaster has agreed to foot my bill at The Howling Wolf. 'Til next time--
Novgorodny Vir

Blue Eyes -- (reproachfully) How could a cuddly little blue-eyed bear be so MEAN? --
Oisan
P.S. It seems to me that this is against nature. Ah, I mean, against Nature with a
capital N, the kind old grandmotherly lady that people who live in cities imagine her
to be. Not the old "red in tooth and claw" nature that country folk know.

Megalodon -- I tell you what, you should go BACK to the deep. I feel sure it would
be your best career move. Why, some other, lesser, megalodon is probably casting an
acquisitive eye at your own personal ecological niche at this very moment! If you
wait too long, you may find that there's no place left for you, and THEN what will
you do, eh? -- Brangwyn

Padre -- There you go, confusing me. The announcer talks about "in this corner, the
redoubtable Shewish gladiator, Padre," and I look around and don't see anyone who
comes close to my height, much less passes it, and I think you're one of the stewards
or something. Until you whack me. Ouch. -- Cu-Cadal

The Embezzling Scribe was no better than the Convicted Thief on the previous turn.
What nonsense! -- Morpeth

17 July 2004
I am currently trying to put together a favorites chart for AD warriors. I
desperately need help with this. What I need are style, favorite rhythm (ex.:
hi/low), favorite weapons, and tactics. What would be great is if you could send me
a copy of the invite with the warrior's name, id#, and arena blacked out. This way,
I can verify that this is an actual warrior. Minis will work, too!

For those interested, I have both a challenge style vs. style and a match-up style
vs. style chart. There's about 250 fights calculated in these charts, and I'll be
happy to send a copy to anyone who asks. You can contact me (if you're a free world
player) at: Rick Stringer, Merit/East, SCI, P.O. Box 500, Georgetown, DE 19947-0500.
If you're in prison, just send a diplo to: Baphomet, Mgr. Knights Templar (568), DM
#47--North Fork. (I also have a lot of other charts and info for anyone who wants
it.) Thanks!

30 July 2004
The total number of fights calculated was reported as 250 fights. This is a
misprint. It should have read "over 2,500 fights." -- Baphomet

                                  LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS

CLUB FOOT was butchered by BANDIT PRINCE in a 2 minute bloody Dark Arena fight.
GWALCHMAI won victory over M. CHARDINEE in a 2 minute uneven Title battle.

PADRE was devastated by BRANGWYN in a 1 minute one-sided contest.
MORPETH overpowered CULT MEMBER in a crowd pleasing 1 minute mismatched match.
CU-CADAL savagely defeated CULT MEMBER in a 3 minute brutal struggle.
