+ ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ A Dark and Stormy Night ]H[ + ---:--- + ]H[ +
Dingil Bill leaned on the windowsill and watched the storm walking across the
Syrinwald. It was miles away, and he couldn't see much, but enough. Moonlight
silvered the tops of the clouds, but under that slowly boiling surface, it would be
dark. Except for the lightning that stitched through it. It gave him a lot of
pleasure to think of himself safely up here in a dry house in the Cliff, and not down
there in the swamp and the rain. Detestable stuff, rain. Cold. Wet. Insinuating.
And the swamp was worse.
He heard the soft hum as Runabout garaged herself behind him and glanced over
his shoulder. It must have been raining up on Top, too, because her tunic was
plastered to her headlights with water (the term still made him blush, but that was
what SHE called them), and more water dripped off her hair.
"It's no night for driving," she said. "The pavement's slippery as.... It's
slippery." She shivered. "And my heater doesn't seem to be working."
"So why were you out at all?"
"Pickups and deliveries. My day job, you know."
"It's night."
"I work the night shift. I have the best fog lights, you see."
Dingil Bill nodded silently. What horrible thing had he done in a past life
that he now had a teammate who honestly believed she was a small horseless carriage
temporarily in elven form? He'd always thought elves were saner than humans. Of
course, the late Lonesome Truck had been worse....
"Let's go down to the Beer House," Runabout suggested. "I need some antifreeze
on a night like this, and it looked like there was plenty of parking there tonight.
Probably the weather keeping everybody in their own garages."
Dingil Bill shrugged helplessly. "Sure, why not?"

SPY REPORT
So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. Hey everybody, watch out for CHARIZARD, who
flew up 18 points in the rankings after mashing RUNABOUT like a melon. Keep your eye
on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was HENRICO, who dropped 9
points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with POOR REPLACEMENT. Unlike
most arenas, CRAPOLA CRAYON managed to get its challenge off against the 18-36-1
KORRIBIE. It's a proud day for the JINDA-BAN stable, as their warrior, KORRIBIE,
ascended the Duelmaster's throne. An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an onion
a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the CLIFFHOME arena. And
hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid THE LOST SOULS, please raise you hand.
Wow. Does CLIFFHOME really have that many liars? Okay, so I may not be funny, but
catch DU BASHERS' act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at running
from THE LOST SOULS. Well dang howdy, but if challenges were votes, THUNDER THIGH
would be president. Although it may be a contest she doesn't want to win. Was it
guts or an overtaxed mental capacity that had NOR'EASTER challenge up 46 points in
the rankings to take on SYSTEM OF A DOWN? A Carrion Bird Sellout: NOR'EASTER 7-8-2
fights SYSTEM OF A DOWN 18-2-1. (BYOB) Well, it looks like THUNDER THIGH wasn't
happy with last turn's rank, so she went for broke by challenging up 28 points. No
guts, no glory. Some advice to THUNDER THIGH. Please don't challenge up 28 points
to fight a 12-8-0 fighter like, say TETTNANGER. (Okay, so it may be a little late).
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Carrion Bird Cinematic Humor: MISS JULY
II: THE REMATCH. On a sad note, MISS JULY found an early retirement at the hands of
KIPPAX this week. I wonder what THE LOST SOULS will be doing about it? Remember:
alliances are great, but try and take your ally in the arena with you and see what
happens.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in CLIFFHOME have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. Well, there goes another Spy
Report. Good luck in next week's fights. Its been fun, and I'm sure you enjoyed it
(boos). Now that I've got you worked up for Snide Clemens, I'll be leaving-- The
Unknown Spymaster

Dingil Bill -- I can assure you we are not led by some Soultaker, nor are we in the
habit of taking the souls from those that seem to have been lost. Instead, our name
sake appears to have been marvelously appropriate as I am told the owner of this
stable was a reckless noble youth whom was wayward and lost. Undoubtedly, many a
fine young warrior were lost to his inexperience. As we approach the All Hallowed
Eve, we should take a moment of silence for all of our fallen comrades....
...there, I feel better now. Do you? --Tettnanger
Runabout -- OUCH! That was over before it began. I hope all is square now betwixt
us. In fact, I must offer thanks for the loss as I felt outclassed anyhow. -- D'ark
Cataan
P.S. I hope your new stablemate is a fine addition. I hold an affinity for those of
the style you lost.
Thunder Thigh -- You dare to challenge moi!? -- Tettnanger
Talon Volksie -- My apologies. I had no intention of thwarting your plans. --
Stimpy
All -- It's nice to see a more evenly distributed stable of styles now. I was
getting tired of running into the same styles, over and over and over and over and
over and, well, over again. ;) -- Stimpy
All -- Sorry for the silence on my part. Been on sabbatical and I just told my
warriors to go out there and figure things out on their own...looks like they did
just that! -- Stimpy
Nor'Easter -- Actually, it's the nor'westers we worry about here. Just had our
gullies washed today. -- Korribie
P.S. Couldn't you go find a DU to bash?
D'ark Cataan -- It isn't MY fault you can't find your soul. Really! It must've been
already lost before I, er, bumped into you. And I barely grazed you with my fender.
Just sort of pushed you aside, it wasn't really a HIT at all. Er, you will tell that
to the insurance company, won't you? -- Runabout
Miss July -- And an eyeful you were and are, too. -- Dingil Bill
P.S. Perhaps you could answer a question that has nagged me for a long time. What
do you do when July is over? And, do you have to hold that pose ALL month?
Robert German -- Ah. A southpaw. I should have known. -- Harandur
Kippax -- I've never met an Aruaki before. If you turn furry, will you purr? That
might be, you know, more than a little bit fun. For both of us. -- Ballou Ys
