Xochithlan, the royal palace:
Tirisha Dulake leaned closer to her cousin, King Feyen, and pouted. "You can't
be so hard hearted, Pootles," she cooed. "It isn't like I'm asking a LOT from
you...."
Feyen was too dark skinned to blush noticeably, but he felt himself getting
rather warm under the collar. "Don't call me that!" he hissed. [It is a gift in the
royal family of Xochithlan to be able to hiss words which contain no esses.] "You're
the only one who remembers that Mother used to call me that! But what if someone
overhears?" He peered around nervously. Eavesdropping was the national pastime in
Xochithlan, but he thought his throne room was reasonably secure. Still, if anyone
heard her say that name.... He shuddered.
"If you'll give me the soldiers, dearest cousin, I'll be so busy and so far
away, I'm sure I'll forget."
"But Tirisha, I can't! If I sent Xochithlani Royal Guardsmen into Mordanti
territory, it could start a war, or at LEAST," he shuddered again, "Samir would send
that battlemage of his to 'make an official protest' and the man has NO sense of
style at all. His hair, his beard!" King Feyen stroked his own perfect little
mustache. "It's impossible, Tirisha, you must see that!"
"No, it is NOT impossible." Her coo was getting ragged around the edges,
letting the iron determination show through. She took a deep breath, noting that,
as with every other man who saw her do that, she had riveted Feyen's attention; after
all, they were only second cousins on one side. "You don't need to send the whole
Royal Guard. I'm sure I won't need a thousand men in Rodeki. It's such a LITTLE
place. A hundred will be enough to protect me, DEAR Feyen." She blew in his ear.
Feyen took his own deep breath and managed not to melt on the spot. "Well...a
hundred men, then, but no more! And not in Royal Xochithlani uniform, either!"
"Of course not, coz." She patted his arm as she straightened up. "I wouldn't
want anyone to get the idea they were on YOUR business." She slid out of reach just
a little ahead of King Feyen's reaching hands. "You won't have any trouble at all
over this, dear coz."

Arenamaster Xoron, a practitioner of the Ancient Elvish Martial Art of Seelie-
Khuei, was deeply resistant to feminine wiles. He was, however, extremely interested
in cash. Tirisha had plenty of cash.
"I guess I could find you a few gladiators to serve as a personal bodyguard," he
muttered, mentally fingering the coins Tirisha had placed on the table between them.
"I couldn't vouch for their reliability, though."
"I will attend to that," Tirisha said briskly. "Twenty ounces of gold for every
gladiator you can find me. Payable when they sign up."

Hail and well met warriors of XOCHITHLAN! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp
Eyes, Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Fortune did not smile upon THE
MIDDLE WAY this time out who this turn suffered a fall into 6th position in the wake
of a 0-5-0 round. Warriors--remember that glory waits always around the corner!
Witness how this week WITLESS WONDERS went 3-0-0 to move up 3 in the rankings.
LUMINOUS NIGHT caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully
bested SELA TIMM and was awarded 25 points in recognition. In one of the week's more
notable duels, SMIRK put down SHIFTING LION, causing him to lose 11 points of
recognition in the process. Although MYRON NAGEL made a valiant effort, it did not
suffice to topple the reign of victorious ZOOLANDER. Would you believe that over
half of the old women in XOCHITHLAN seem to feel that they could fight better than
you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city XOCHITHLAN. XOCHITHLAN, city of gladiators! Mighty among the names of
thy guilds is FIVE FELINES, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the weekly duels.
Apparently the stalwarts of CHEAP SHOTS are catching the bulk of jests down at the
challenging board for their large share of the avoids. Mighty fighters cannot but
expect competition from those below. COCONUT COOLY take warning! You have more than
a few enemies in XOCHITHLAN. Give MYSTI MIENER credit for hers courage. Did you
note how she challenged TAMMY FAYE despite the 27 point difference in their rankings?
In the end MYSTI MIENER lost to TAMMY FAYE, a "sharp" reminder that higher
recognition is an indication of greater skill. Still, it was a worthy bout! At the
gambling halls I have started to bet money on COCONUT COOLY. She has got the courage
it takes. Witness hers challenge this turn against HOMEY CIDE! Truth to tell,
COCONUT COOLY did not come out of the fight a winner, but she managed to capture much
attention, gaining 4 in recognition. I can not but mention with disdain the name of
EYE RAISE who this week posted a challenge to a warrior a full 13 points below in the
rankings. I thought EYE RAISE showed great skill and promise when it beat GIB
HOLGIN. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! Strange what qualities come forth in the face of
certain doom. LATE KNIGHT has the town astir with the news of his Dark Arena
victory! The warrior's path is harsh. For mediocrity there is but one
reward--death. This past week SELA TIMM, at 9-9-0, departed XOCHITHLAN forever.
Many townsmen have begin to remark over the fact that after one more round of duels
CRIMINAL ELEMENT's Bloodfeud against ZOOLANDER will have expired. Some say a warrior
is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then
a sword on the belt!
If it were not for my skills as a spy I would have been mugged three times
already in XOCHITHLAN. Nice atmosphere you have here! More than a sharp eye must I
keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari
await me! Till next we meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often.

Let it be known far and wide, that the Warrior TUM 18-7380, the Champions Runner-Up
for the recent Tournament, is managed by none other than Shocking Toad. I named this
fabulous warrior after my friend and mentor, TUM, a.k.a. Don! Sorry TUM didn't get
me my first TC; however, a runner-up with all those sandbaggers is pretty impressive,

Alliance. I have enjoyed my time there, and I've made some great friends. Their
