TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Players old and new!
Some of you may know that at one point last year, RSI tried to pull together an
arena in which role-playing in the personals and in spotlights would be a significant
(and rewarded) feature. Though it didn't work out, the idea remains an appealing
one. I would like to propose that we, the players, sponsor such an effort. No
rules, no prizes, just players getting into the spirit of role-play.
I suggest Telorinthe, arena 83, as a place to try this. Telorinthe is the slow
no-tourney arena, and it seems like a good place for this experiment. There is no
large body of entrenched players with other interests. Although some background work
has been done, there is no great, creaking, edifice of old spotlights to deal with.
Very little in the way of vested interests. Perhaps if all goes well, the idea might
catch on in other arenas.
In keeping with the "no rules" idea, I won't say, "Begins on turn ###!" Just
show up when you feel like it and jump in. We'll keep a seat ready for you.
Jorja and the Middle Way
P.S. And I'll try to have at least a short piece each time. No major adventures,
just "the adventure of living." Bring your friends!

DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I don't think the Veteran Mercenary really wanted to be Duelmaster, and I can't
blame him. Aside for the "target on your armor" aspect, there's a lot of ceremonial
stuff attached, especially (so I'm told) here in Xochithlan. Elves, you know. They
make a major ceremony of taking out the trash!
Timor Unred
SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, XOCHITHLAN? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, PROPHETIC OMENS, since THE
MIDDLE WAY took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Of course, we're
all terribly impressed to see TERROR-DACTYL win a fight and gain 11 points, terribly.
Tsk, tsk, QUITA ROSALA beat RIPPLE CAUSER and RIPPLE CAUSER lost 3 points. You're
breakin' my heart. And if variety is the spice of life, XOCHITHLAN may be getting
bland, as TIMOR UNRED stays top dog in the city. The Dripping Blade, humph! I've
tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From XOCHITHLAN's
trash dumps?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward.
XOCHITHLAN, I am losing what little hope I had in you. CRIMINAL ELEMENT the most
avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And who led the way in this
mass act of cowardice? Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was PROPHETIC OMENS. Ha
ha ha ha! FALLON GRIMM was challenged more times this turn than the Duelmaster. Now
was the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh. I suspect either a 21 will or a 21 ego on
this one, but WORLD BRINK has challenged up by 26 in an attempt against FALLON GRIMM.
Not that I'm surprised or anything, but WORLD BRINK lost to FALLON GRIMM, leaving the
latter lower for recognition points.
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for XOCHITHLAN's
morgue. More variety. Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use.
Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Just wait 'till next time I show up
here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Glad to see the back of this place-- Snide
Clemens

PERSONAL ADS
Fallon Grimm -- In case you are kin to the Brothers Grimm. I was never much for
being scared of fairy tales. -- Swirls and Arcs
You missed some good cheap thrills.
Udarn Voyl -- Apparently you were caught eating chips instead of exercising that
time! As for me, without my prodding everyone would turn into couch potatoes! --
Ripple Causer
Rirorni Horseman -- My noseplugs fell out and your stench saved you this time. --
Crator's Cause
Tank-Losaurus -- I'm starting to get your measure. And with me, there's always the
potential to reappear the next morning. -- Misty Form
BOB -- Sorry about that. But every great change births a chance at better evolution.
-- World Brink
P.S. Just make sure your name is prominently displayed so if someone discovers your
bones, they won't give you a girlie nickname.
Just looking at the dead listings, and it would appear that most of the prophetic
omens going around are of doom and disaster! Oh, well, that's the way it goes
sometimes. -- Jorja
Ripple Causer -- Your leg is up? I thought it was only dogs who did that? -- Udarn
Voyl
Swirls and Arcs -- Nothing PERSONAL, really, but I was just feeling angular. --
Fallon Grimm
P.S. And the fans loved me for it, too! But why no skills for me?
Noted in passing, the Misty Form fought for fifteen minutes and was voted
"monotonous." Huh. I never thought a misty form would be monotonous. Makes you
wonder what kind of lives those reporter guys live, that this is boring to them,
doesn't it?
Pat Riside -- You're an incredibly tedious person. Is that one fixed idea, hatred
for your parent, all there is TO you? -- Quita Rosala
Ripple Causer -- Ouch! Just because you've got a "thing" for ripples doesn't mean
you have to spill enough of my blood to see the ripples THERE. I don't NEED this. --
Udarn Voyl
Steg-O-Sore -- I don't wonder that you're sore, the way you stumble around and fall
over your own feet! -- Bettina Chim
