DUELMASTER'S COLUMN Notes from the arena champ. Hail, Warriors of Xochithlan! Honestly, would anyone know if I misspelled the name? I didn't think so! Anyway, I find myself a nice place in town and look to settle down and then BOOM! I get the call up from some Commission flunky. Now Darque is sending me off to stay on the Isle. He says I'm free to enjoy my retirement but who can enjoy anything when they have to pack up all their stuff and move? No one, that is who! This is actually the third time that I've been Duelmaster here! I was the DM back on turns 213-214 as well. That was a long time ago (2005), by my standards anyway. This is only the second time that I have fought here since turn 214, so I've been busy in the tournaments and general tomfoolery since (more tomfoolery than tournaments to be honest-- and much more successful at the tomfoolery). For those that aren interested in such things, I leave for the Isle as: 14+3-6+3-7-21-17+2-16-11 Striker. I apparently like the War Flail, which I've never used and have no intentions of using on purpose. I like to Lunge and have a knack for learning Parry skills. By way of rhythm, I like to do as little as possible and slowly at that (VL/LO). None of these apart from the tactic is condusive to good dueling, so it's off to retirement. "Great numbers and lousy faves," so Darque says, hence my move into full retirement. Perhaps if I didn't waste all my time in those tournaments I could have a career in Storm Rock, the new no-tourney arena, but that time is past now. It is time to adapt myself to my new "plot" in life, which apparently involves drinks with umbrellas and immeasurable boredom. Luck to all this turn. I think Darque had me issue a challenge to Fallon Grimm, but I don't remember exactly. If I did issue a challenge it was to Fallon-- no one else there to challenge. Maybe we should remedy that problem... Toodles, Outlaw Star SPY REPORT It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty, and despair! THE MIDDLE WAY had cause to celebrate, after UDARN VOYL got 20 points by beating TRI-SORE-A-TOPS. Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, UDARN VOYL was winsome, after beating TRI-SORE-A-TOPS and seeing her lose 16 points. Well, Duelmaster OUTLAW STAR challenged THE MIDDLE WAY's FALLON GRIMM. Is a 14-8-1 good enough? Those who hoped for a new Duelmaster were disappointed by FALLON GRIMM, of THE MIDDLE WAY, who despite a 18-10-0 couldn't overcome XOCHITHLAN's Number 1. So who's the team that's been walking into taverns last week and ordering milk? Sounds like a PR stunt to me. My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter. But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! Like a horde of jackals fleeing from the lion, so did the "warriors" in XOCHITHLAN avoid DINO SORES!. The warriors of DINO SORES! found their efforts at combat frustrated as DARQUE ANGELS apparently had more important things to do than fight. QUITA ROSALA found herself challenged by a warrior 20 below: THE FALLEN ONE. THE FALLEN ONE of DARQUE ANGELS kept hers wits as she lost to QUITA ROSALA. Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after life! Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee. All good things must come to an end. My fingers tire and I fear my incessant prattling may cause unfair judgement upon my impeccable character. XOCHITHLAN, I leave you now. The Duelmaster has agreed to foot my bill at The Swinging Aardvark. But, as you have probably heard during my duelmaster speech, the big joke is on me! Hopefully my replacement will leave a favorable impression of me with Darque. What is that? Probably not? Yeah, I suspect as much too. -- Outlaw Star Tank-Losaurus -- Considering my history with your type, the outcome was unexpected. I'm sure FE played an important role, though, rather than skill, or at least that is what Darque keeps shouting at me to deflate any ego I might have had about the fight! -- The Fallen One Terror-Dactyl -- I continue my good start at your expense in the arena. I'm certain it will end, but I will enjoy every minute that it lasts. -- Malice Udarn Voyl -- Darque has been playing around with my training regimen a bit and he liked the result. However, one fight doth not a career make!-- Black Guard Spell-O-Saurus -- It happened so quick that I have very little to say about it. In a place so small, surely we will meet again. -- Israfel Jorja -- No, I had not heard of anything at the time I read your note. But after looking I came across an advertisement about it. Thanks for the info. -- Lord Rahl P.S. "The Omen Machine." Pretty tailormade, if I say so myself. Definitely a natural for your team. I'm going to try to get back in a turn or two. I've been busy overseeing an upholstery on the throne in another area. It's just a shame my girl's immortal butt won't get to try it out. -- Lord Rahl Our congratulations to Outlaw Star, newly returned and about to depart. -- Jorja and the Middle Way Plus, we salute the tourney participants. -- Jorja and, again, the Middle Way Outlaw Star -- It is, of course, appropriate that you take the title on a win. But I worry about how the aggression you manifest may affect the more normal aspects of life. I have seen this problem with other gladiators, who find themselves unable to do "normal" after a year or two on the sands. This is not a good fate. Reconsider, now that you are to graduate! Perhaps you can find a more balanced life now. -- Timor Unred (not a golem, drat the Commission for insisting!) Pat Riside -- If you mistook ME for your father, you need glasses. And if you did NOT mistake me for your father, why were you out there at all? -- Quita Rosala The Rirorni Officer is an oxymoron. Other kinds of moron, too, but I was around during the Rirorni War. They didn't have officers. Maybe chiefs and subchiefs, but that was about it. -- Fallon Grimm P.S. Face it, they were barbarians. They still ARE barbarians. Steg-O-Sore -- Amazing what can be done with a well-placed bandaid. -- Bettina Chim Black Guard -- You didn't have to do that. Now the crowds think I'm second-rate. Well, I probably am, but it was better when they didn't know it. -- Udarn Voyl LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS OUTLAW STAR devastated FALLON GRIMM in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight. THE FALLEN ONE was vanquished by QUITA ROSALA in a 1 minute Challenge Title battle. PAT RISIDE demolished RIRORNI ASSASSIN in a 2 minute uneven fight. TANK-LOSAURUS slimly won victory over RIRORNI JANISSARY in a slow 11 minute contest. TRI-SORE-A-TOPS was demolished by UDARN VOYL in a 1 minute mismatched competition. MALICE overpowered TERROR-DACTYL in a 1 minute one-sided struggle. BLACK GUARD viciously subdued BETTINA CHIM in a 1 minute gory competition. STEG-O-SORE handily defeated RIRORNI DESERTER in a 1 minute uneven melee. SPELL-A-SAURUS won victory over RIRORNI DESERTER in a popular 1 minute gruesome duel.
