DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Well this was certainly a nice welcome back to the land of X, this great city of
Xochithlan. After an 0-4 start to my career, I wasn't sure the boss was going to
keep me around for a while, and I started dreaming of night fights. But having gone
on a 14-4-1 streak since then, the boss tells me now I get to make my dreams come
true.
I know I haven't really fought against anyone here, but for those who are
interested, my numbers were 15-12-7-17-15-9-9, and I trained stats my entire career.
I leave here with Advanced Experts in Attack, Decise and Initiative, and an Expert in
Defence on 73 learned skills. (Mode except for a +2 in Init). The commission says
I'm naturally adept with the Large Shield (which certainly won't cut it for a Duck
With Swords), a Very High/Low rhythm, and I have an innate sense for learning defence
skills.
I bid you all aquack, for this will be my last fight before retirement.

SPY REPORT
Hail and well met warriors of XOCHITHLAN! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp
Eyes, Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. Former top team STEEL WOLVES 2 was
unseated this week as DUCKS UNLIMITED moved up from 3rd ranking to take the top spot
with a 5-0-1 record for the round. SALOME TORENE caught the eye of many in the
gladiatorial commission as she skillfully bested MORGANA BLACK and was awarded 19
points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, SALOME TORENE put
down MORGANA BLACK, causing her to lose 14 points of recognition in the process.
Most watched of the fights this week, the spotlight was on SHAGORNAN HERMIT as he
bore arms against the Dark Arena Challenge of reigning Duelmaster DUCK A L'ORANGE.
Not for nothing has DUCK A L'ORANGE in the past laid claim to the Duelmaster's
throne, and this week it's proven its combat skill yet again. Would you believe that
over half of the old women in XOCHITHLAN seem to feel that they could fight better
than you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city XOCHITHLAN. XOCHITHLAN, city of gladiators! Mighty among the names of
thy guilds is STEEL WOLVES 2, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the weekly
duels. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was that spent the
better part of last week avoiding STEEL WOLVES 2. Indeed it was DUCKS UNLIMITED.
Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition from those below. BASH ARTADI take
warning! You have more than a few enemies in XOCHITHLAN. A match that raised a few
eyebrows at the games this week, it seems that SELAANE posted a challenge against the
more highly recognized ULRIK VENN. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand
SELAANE was subdued by ULRIK VENN. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of
steel.
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Strange what qualities come forth in the
face of certain doom. DUCK A L'ORANGE has the town astir with the news of its Dark
Arena victory! Walk proud, warriors of THE ROUGHRIDERS! By striking down BASH
ARTADI you have avenged the honor of your dead. Your virtue is known to all in
XOCHITHLAN. Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but
sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this!
The girls are as pretty in XOCHITHLAN as ever I remembered them....and the
fighters as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I
keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till
next we meet remember: a fool flies into a rage quickly and often. The wise are
angered by the same thing only once. Zontani Sharp Eyes

PERSONAL ADS
Bettina Chim -- I'd like to say I'm off to defend the honour of real ducks with
swords, but based on what I've been told about my favourite weapon, it leaves me no
choice but head off to retirement. -- Duck A L'Orange
Desslock Cain -- Looks like you are ready to quack onto the throne next turn. --
Peking Duck
Selaane -- When I saw you on the ice (back in your old Jets days) you were certainly
a lot quicker than that. -- Duck With Swords
Habbiboulin -- Again, knowing your favourite position, I'd say you want to stop
ducking out of the way of my shots and start blocking a lot more of them. -- Scrooge
McDuck
Thanks for the insight, Jorja! I'v e heard you reference 'favorite weapons' before,
it's probably relevant, but so far I don't know how to look for it (or what I'm
looking for). Doesn't really matter, I guess. Thanks for being patient and always
responding. -- Lobo, mgr SW 2
Mahovlich -- Cute, right? I thought so. -- B. Artadi
Koivu -- Ack! A worthy upstart. Good challenge. Good win. I'm surprised I haven't
been DA'd yet. -- S. Ventress
Horvanth Irnde -- Good parrying? Ugh. Not good enough. I'm still trying to figure
this riposte thing out. -- S. Ventress
Peking Duck -- Glad I got you before I passed out. -- Desslock Cain
Ulrik Venn -- Muuuuuch harder this time, and the off-hand weapon did what, nothing?
It was a good fight, though! And of course, nothing learned... -- M. Black
The Steel Wolves congratulate Duck A L'Orange. We hardly knew ye.
Bash artadi -- Okay, that was only practice. My manager was up all night trying to
decide what weapon to give me. Then I dropped it about two seconds after entering
the arena. He didn't find it funny. What I really want to know is who called me a
stupid idiot! Anyway, my manager is yelling at me to stop writing and start training
for round two. -- Mahovlich
Jorja -- Thanks for the welcome back. My brief hiatus was unintentional. Glad to
hear that I enrich the experience. Now if I could just avenge Svoboda's death (and
silence my arch-nemesis the Steel Wolves 2), that would really be rich. -- Lobo
Ducks and Wolves all over the front page! It's becoming a zoo here. -- Jorja
Desslock Cain -- I'll see if there's some mage around who knows an anti-allergen
spell. -- Bettina Chim
Desslock Cain -- That's just sweat. It was a hot day. -- Salome Torene
Sylah Ventress -- Yeah, the stupid idiots in the stands are a cross we bear. I bet
THEY can't do half as well as the least of us does. -- Horanth Irnde
Our congratulations to Duck a l'Orange. -- Jorja and those who walk the Middle Way
Duck a l'Orange -- Basically, that was an honor. -- Bettina Chim
Morgana Black -- You've been eating red meat, haven't you? I can tell. -- Ulrik Venn
And three welcome wins over standbys. They may not be impressive, but they ARE wins.
-- the rest of the Middle Way team
