"Again, we're Top Team," Marlin Reeve said. He tossed the newsletter to his
teammate, the Grimm Lurcher.
The Lurcher tossed it back. "Not my problem. You're the duelmaster, that puts
you on the hot spot."
"Maybe we'll hear another scream in the night," Samara suggested. She gave a
final stir to the simmering stewpot and began to dish up dinner. "Then we could go
rushing out to rescue some poor idiot's bones from the monsters that come out of the
lake, and--"
"Like we didn't go out after the one last time?" Marlin asked. He looked into
his stew bowl dubiously. "What is this?"
"Dinner." Samara laid a slab of bread over the top of the bowl. "That's all
you need to know."
"It's got onions in it," the Stray Cat said. "Good. I like onions. And it's
hot. Works for me."
"About last time," Marlin repeated.
"Might as well let it drop," Grimm said, dunking bread into his stew. "That's
in the past. Can't fix it now."
"Besides, it was a Ruthless Jaywalker," Samara added. "Who cares about them?
Let the Red Tentacles get them all!"
"How do you know it was a Jaywalker?" Cat asked, bread poised above the stew
while he stared at her.
She shrugged, looking embarrassed. "I went out and looked the next morning.
Recognized the boots."
The Cat nodded. "Okay. Just asking. You're right about the Jaywalkers. Who
cares about 'em?"
"Nobody deserves the Fate of the Tentacles!" Stella Marie protested. As the
newest member of the team, she had been keeping quiet, but something things couldn't
be ignored. "And it might be somebody else, next."

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly KATI-TEI games. ULTIMATE HERO caught the eye of many
in the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested STELLA MARIE and was awarded
21 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, OLD YELLER put
down UBBA-SATHLA, causing him to lose 17 points of recognition in the process.
Although THE WAIT made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of
victorious MARLIN REEVE. Would you believe that over half of the old women in
KATI-TEI seem to feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently
transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. KATI-TEI, city of gladiators!
Mighty among the names of thy guilds is WANDERERS, a guild shunned and avoided by
many in the weekly duels. Methinks more than a few here could name the guild it was
that spent the better part of last week avoiding WANDERERS. Indeed it was THE
PLAGUE. Loose talk at the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the
knowledge that many fighters are after GRIMM LURCHER. Watch your back!
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! Dark alleys may hide both secrets and assassins.
In the arena there is only the brightness of steel. Keep vigil always!
The girls are as pretty in KATI-TEI as ever I remembered them....and the
fighters as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Sadly warriors, now longer can I
keep thy company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till
