Xochithlan:

Tirisha Dulake leaned toward her husband, Devon, and smiled. "It's definite.
Gryzash the Golden is gone and not coming back--"
"People have thought he was gone before," the ex-governor of Rodeki protested.
"He's always come back. I wish you wouldn't--"
She drew back. "Wouldn't what? Wouldn't want my husband to be more than a
cipher?" She frowned, very faintly because frowning made lines in the face, even for
elves eventually. "I assure you that my information is accurate, I have access to my
brother King Feyen's spy network...."
     "He allows that?"
"He doesn't know." She shrugged, hiding a smile as she watched the way his eyes
followed her movement. "He may suspect, but he doesn't know." She fingered the
pendant of obsidian which she had taken to wearing at all times. "Gryzash is
definitely gone. And you do realize what that means, don't you?"
"That his wife will be ruling Sibikhas and Rodeki as well as Jhans," the man
answered with a shrug of his own.
Tirisha smiled wickedly. "I don't think so! She's got problems of her own, and
Rodeki is the LAST thing on her mind."
"Still...Tirisha, it's been YEARS since I was governor of Rodeki. People will
have forgotten me. I can't just walk in and take over again." He paused, hunting
for an argument that would carry weight. "Besides, Talessin would never allow it!
And you know she's got that damned Nai Shang wizard of her husband's to back her up."
The dark elf patted her pendant and smiled again. "What Talessin does or
doesn't like will shortly matter...not at all. I have...allies, my dear. And I have
already sent agents ahead to prepare the ground."
"Agents? How can we afford--? Who could you even FIND to--?"
"Gladiators, of course, they can go anywhere, and nobody thinks twice about it.
And people expect them to be...peculiar sometimes."

Rodeki:

He had graduated from the Delvers team under the name of Adabemis & Balmador,
but the explanation that he was two Dwarves who fought as one had worn thin over the
years. Two minds in one body, that was Adabemis & Balmador, and sometimes one was on
top, sometimes the other. Adabemis was nasty, suspicious, and greedy. Balmador was
worse. But both of them were proud of their position within the followers of Dormon,
and both were determined to do their very best in this special mission. Anything
Lady Tirisha, Mistress of the cult of Dormon, wanted, they would give her.
The first thing they needed was a base in town. The Delvers' guildhouse seemed
like an obvious choice. After all, they had a right to be there, didn't they? They
were Delver Lord Protectors. There was a suite at the rear of the building which
would be ideal...as soon as the present tenants were evicted.
Adabemis hitched up his weapon belt, and Balmador laid a hand on his war hammer.
That should be no problem....

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings warriors! It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the
clash and bustle of the weekly RODEKI games. SNAPPY GEORGE caught the eye of many in
the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested EL RIPPOFF and was awarded 18
points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, SNAPPY GEORGE put
down EL RIPPOFF, causing it to lose 12 points of recognition in the process.
Although VENOMOUS CONCUBINE made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the
reign of victorious DRAXUS BREMOORE. Informants "close" to the city champion have
told me that he never fights without pantyhose on beneath his armor. Watch out!
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city RODEKI. My inside sources tell me that the team to beat in RODEKI these
days is WAY OF THE SWORD A3. At least, most blades in town are looking to avoid
them. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any
of COLOR ME SUAVE last week. Busy avoiding WAY OF THE SWORD A3? Mighty fighters
cannot but expect competition from those below. RUBBER BUMPER take warning! You
have more than a few enemies in RODEKI. A match that raised a few eyebrows at the
games this week, it seems that BOZO posted a challenge against the more highly
recognized FUZZY BUZZCUT. The results, you ask? Well, the firebrand BOZO lost to
FUZZY BUZZCUT. Remember warriors, this is the discipline of steel. I can not but
mention with disdain the name of YANKEE DAN who this week posted a challenge to a
warrior a full 14 points below in the rankings. I thought YANKEE DAN showed great
skill and promise when he won victory over JOHN ROSE. All right, so I slept through
it! Big deal!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Strange what qualities come forth in the
face of certain doom. HMMPH has the town astir with the news of his Dark Arena
victory! Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears arms. One thing is sure,
better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in RODEKI as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! Ahh, but I can hear the spires of a far
off city calling to me. I must away! Till next we meet remember - the pen is
mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Round one of the Rodeki Writing Contest goes to *drum roll* ... Suave! Congrats!
Here's your complimentary golden *insert name of item you desire here*. Please use
it with caution as it has been infused with magic to deliver poor strategies to your
warriors when they fight against my stable. -- Flagg

Suave -- Let's see what Harby comes up with as a storyline before I decide to run
with your storyline. -- Flagg

Harby -- Dear, are you still working on that idea we discussed via email? -- Flagg

Snappy George -- You call yourself a ripper??? Me, a mere piker and did you see how
beeeeeautifuuuuuul my ripostes were? Actually being followed up with non wild
attacks was a surprise to myself, though! -- Problematic

Rubber Bumper -- I bounced around for awhile until I found a place to sink my
longsword into. The cushiony feel wasn't quite as satisfying as steel against bone,
but I'll take the win anyway. -- Sterling

Ann Artichoke -- Sorry deary, but I needed to borrow a lock of your artichoke hair
and well, the only real way to get it was to beat it off of you. He he he, when was
the last time you were a toad, my dear? -- Gate Witch #2

Veteran Mercenary -- Ha! Veteran, my arse! I made you look like a novice! -- Draxus
Bremoore

Hairlip Bombshell -- Wow! You shoulda been called, Very Fast Racing Chariot, or
something similar, because if you got the jump on me then, wow! Oh well, guess I'll
have to wait to see if I get my chance in the next dead tourney -- Ghost of Lyria
Adler
P.S. Expect Good 'Ol Problematic, team bloodfeud manager to seek you out next turn.
Have fun with the skill learns you get from him.

Sterling -- I see that rubbing up against the Bumper has polished you to a high
shine. Congratulations on your gloss. -- Harby

Yankee Dan -- For someone wearing size twenty shoes, you're mighty nimble. -- John
Rose

Gate Witch -- It's all YOUR fault, YOU told them in the Infirmary to neglect me,
didn't you? "Oh, she just needs a bandaid," you said, and I can't sit down at ALL,
and haven't been able to for DAYS. -- Ann Artichoke

Bozo -- I love to rip off people like you, who come out in baggy pants and try to
make everyone think it's the last word in fashion statements. Ha! -- El Rippoff

Limpy Two-Screws -- AND ten slices. ShhsssSSSH! -- Sushee Su

Wow! TWO spotlights last time, and I learned things from both of them. (I didn't
know Suave had mustachios, and when did Flagg and his Lady (a real beauty!) move into
my house?) This puts me on my toes or something (I don't write with my toes). I
have to produce. But what? A play? Nah, I'm already backing Madam Butterfly's
opera in Sunset, no spare cash for another play here. Graffiti in the tunnels? I
could manage that.... Hmm. Have to think about this. If there is a spotlight from
the Delvers in the relevant part of this newsletter (it's debatable at the moment),
you'll know I DID think of something. -- Harby the distracted

Assur -- The Veteran Mercenary never mastered tatting. He just produces some snarled
crochet. You want tatting, check out the Venomous Concubine, she's a real mistress
of the art. -- Ann Artichoke

Yankee Dan -- It's your shews. They are too much for mere laughter. -- El Rippoff

Let it be known far and wide, that the Warrior TUM 18-7380, the Champions Runner-Up
for the recent Tournament, is managed by none other than Shocking Toad. I named this
fabulous warrior after my friend and mentor, TUM, a.k.a. Don! Sorry TUM didn't get
me my first TC; however, a runner-up with all those sandbaggers is pretty impressive,
if I do say so myself. -- Shocking Toad, The Manager

All -- This is to announce that I am no longer a member of the Vendetta Cartel
Alliance. I have enjoyed my time there, and I've made some great friends. Their
company will be missed, but they will endure. I wish them well. -- Apex
