                                    TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Flagg found himself skidding in the gravel outside of the Delver guildhouse,
just being thrown from the door by a VERY large dwarf. The door slammed shut behind
him as he was making contact and the thought occurred to him as he stood up, "Lady
Flagg is still in there." He had to get her out! Quickly he cast a local teleport
spell centered around Lady Flagg. A flash of light, a clap of thunder and Flagg was
staring at Rodeki from the outskirts of the city. Drat! The spell had backfired and
now he was too far out of range to try again. Flagg ran. He ran past the arena, he
ran past the tavern, he ran past the town square and all he could think about was
Lady Flagg. He had to get there before serious harm came to her. He skidded around
the last corner on the way to the Delver's place and saw the door. More precisely,
he saw the door opening and Lady Flagg walking out with the large dwarf behind her.
And she was laughing! So was the dwarf!
"What in Alastari is going on here?" Flagg yelled.
"Honey, Adabemis & Balmador was just telling me a funny story about Rodeki
Rambler. You actually make him fight with two medium shields? Oh honey, you and I
need to have a talk about your strategies." Lady Flagg replied. Lady Flagg and the
dwarf exchanged pleasantries and then the couple was on their way.
     "Flaggy-pooh."
"Please honey, not in public. I have an image to uphold." Flagg pleaded.
"Yes dear," Lady Flagg began, "I know, I know. You are an up and coming manager
and need all the respect you can get. How long has it been that you've been up and
coming? What? Fourteen, fifteen years?"
Flagg sighed. "That's not the point."
"At any rate, I want to go back home. Back home to Earth. Please? It's been
so long since I've seen my Mother, I miss her so. Besides, her last lightning pigeon
said that our newest nephew was born on your birthday and I haven't seen him yet!"
"Yeah, I guess it has been a long time, but I can't go back home with you this
time. I've got sooooo much business to take care of here in town and in Bonsur and
Valamantis. You know, Digger Wasp earned herself a Tournament Victor status. I
think she's close to busting out and I just need to help her time herself better.
Also, I've got the full team here in Rodeki and the guys are complaining that I'm not
paying enough attention to 'em. It's just a really bad time for me to go back. I
hope you understand." Flagg tried to explain.
"Ok dear, just do me a favor and keep out of trouble. I know how you are,
always running your mouth trying to be funny, but not ever being funny. It's a gift
dear and you just piss people off when you try to be funny. One more thing, can I go
back now?" she asked.
"Yeah, but let me pay to have one of the Isle wizards transport you back. My
magic has been acting funny here lately."
With that they embraced and Flagg called for a carriage to take his wife to the
Isle. He waved goodbye and promptly turned to head to Problematic's pad. It was
kind of embarrassing, one of his warriors had his own place and he was thrown out on
his arse from his rented room. Problematic was earning a pretty good living being
the most popular warrior in town. Making side-bets on himself wasn't allowed by the
Commission, but there was always a shady bookie someplace who would take the money
and then have to hand it (and some extra) right back to him.
Flagg found his way to Problematic's apartment and let himself in. Apparently,
his warriors were up all night celebrating Draxus Bremoore's third consecutive turn
on the local Duelmaster throne. Sterling rustled at the intrusion, saw it was his
boss and waved a half-hearted hello. "Doone, sent a telegram. It's on the table."
Sterling wheezed as he pointed to the end table to the couch he was sleeping on.
Flagg picked it up and began to read.
"Flagg and my young stablemates, I am pleased to announce that I have fought my
way to the top of Darkholm and I am the current Keeper of the Runeblade...without the
help of our 'manager'. I digress, the Lord Protectors of our stables are faring
poorly, as usual. They just need more time to get a little more seasoned, but they
will come around. I hear the home stable is doing quite well as of late and I wish
you young warriors good luck in all your future bouts! Signed, Doone."
Flagg smiled a little and turned the card over to look for the sending date of
the telegram. What he found was a length of script, known only to himself and those
of his original stable, Flagg 16. He read it quickly and then blanched. There were
devious workings afoot, he was going to have to consult with another. "Sterling,
wake up and take these challenges down to the Commission. Tell Assurraiseyourhandif-yoursurebellbottombanjopicker, if you see him, that I am busy this morning and won't
be able to meet him and Suave for the Opera Committee meeting." Sterling waved his
hand again and began to snore.
Flagg quickly left and headed back the way he came from the Delver's guildhouse.
He needed answers to questions he did not know. The message had read, "There was a
man here asking about Gryzash. I didn't tell him anything."
     Flagg quickened his pace.

Xochithlan, the royal palace:

Tirisha Dulake leaned closer to her cousin, King Feyen, and pouted. "You can't
be so hard hearted, Pootles," she cooed. "It isn't like I'm asking a LOT from
you...."
Feyen was too dark skinned to blush noticeably, but he felt himself getting
rather warm under the collar. "Don't call me that!" he hissed. [It is a gift in the
royal family of Xochithlan to be able to hiss words which contain no esses.] "You're
the only one who remembers that Mother used to call me that! But what if someone
overhears?" He peered around nervously. Eavesdropping was the national pastime in
Xochithlan, but he thought his throne room was reasonably secure. Still, if anyone
heard her say that name.... He shuddered.
"If you'll give me the soldiers, dearest cousin, I'll be so busy and so far
away, I'm sure I'll forget."
"But Tirisha, I can't! If I sent Xochithlani Royal Guardsmen into Mordanti
territory, it could start a war, or at LEAST," he shuddered again, "Samir would send
that battlemage of his to 'make an official protest' and the man has NO sense of
style at all. His hair, his beard!" King Feyen stroked his own perfect little
mustache. "It's impossible, Tirisha, you must see that!"
"No, it is NOT impossible." Her coo was getting ragged around the edges,
letting the iron determination show through. She took a deep breath, noting that,
as with every other man who saw her do that, she had riveted Feyen's attention; after
all, they were only second cousins on one side. "You don't need to send the whole
Royal Guard. I'm sure I won't need a thousand men in Rodeki. It's such a LITTLE
place. A hundred will be enough to protect me, DEAR Feyen." She blew in his ear.
Feyen took his own deep breath and managed not to melt on the spot. "Well...a
hundred men, then, but no more! And not in Royal Xochithlani uniform, either!"
"Of course not, coz." She patted his arm as she straightened up. "I wouldn't
want anyone to get the idea they were on YOUR business." She slid out of reach just
a little ahead of King Feyen's reaching hands. "You won't have any trouble at all
over this, dear coz."
                       *** ***** *** ***** ***
Arenamaster Xoron, a practitioner of the Ancient Elvish Martial Art of Seelie-
Khuei, was deeply resistant to feminine wiles. He was, however, extremely interested
in cash. Tirisha had plenty of cash.
"I guess I could find you a few gladiators to serve as a personal bodyguard," he
muttered, mentally fingering the coins Tirisha had placed on the table between them.
"I couldn't vouch for their reliability, though."
"I will attend to that," Tirisha said briskly. "Twenty ounces of gold for every
gladiator you can find me. Payable when they sign up."

Warriors and managers are invited to accompany Tirisha Dulake to Rodeki, or wherever
she may end up going. A note in the personals addressed to Scribe, or an email to
Livia@reality.com will do it.

                                      SPY REPORT

It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! Practice pays for GERALD, who pummelled GOLDEN BOY OF BASS, to pocket
18 points. A certain someone should cut down on the drinking and practice more,
after losing 11 points to GERALD. (Discrete enough, GOLDEN BOY OF BASS?) RUBBER
BUMPER found out that RODEKI isn't a democracy. You've gotta be the best to be
Duelmaster here! Word has it one team in RODEKI is taking speech lessons to try to
bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter.
But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! Perhaps the warriors of COLOR ME SUAVE
should take up some hobbies, as they are the most avoided team... The warriors of
COLOR ME SUAVE found their efforts at combat frustrated as FLAGG'S FIVE apparently
had more important things to do than fight. Is it charming personality?
Conversational abilities? Good oral hygiene? Whatever it is, JOHN ROSE is the most
challenged warrior. Mismatched by 14 points, JOHN ROSE was defeated by YANKEE DAN.
Is this really worth noting? I thought YANKEE DAN showed great skill and promise
when he overcame JOHN ROSE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Never one to advocate diplomacy and restraint, I was pleased to see FLAGG'S
FIVE retaliate against COLOR ME SUAVE in bloodfeud! Ask not for whom the sword
slashes; it slashes for thee.
Do not think spyreporting in RODEKI is the highlight of my life. Keep those
sands bloody and the buzzards fat! Can anything compare to the pleasure of writing
Spyreports for RODEKI? On that giddy note I take my leave-- Novgorodny Vir

Rubber Bumper -- I made sure I brought my "bumper repair tool" with me. It took me
awhile to put you back in shape, but man did it make me popular with the ladies! --
Problematic

M. Chardinee -- You can't riposte if you're sitting on your butt! -- Sterling

Ann Artichoke -- Sorry deary, I needed another sample of your hair. He he he. --
Gate Witch #2

Venomous Concubine -- I like the fact that you belong to a harem. Perhaps I shall
see about buying you once I become a Lord Protector, seeing as how you aren't really
all that venomous after all. -- Draxus Bremoore

Flagg -- Duh, uhuh...me won in scary dark uhmmm...fight. Me get place on team, ok?
Duh.... -- Hmmph

Hmmph -- No. -- Flagg

All -- Let me apologize for no Duelmaster columns for the last two turns. It appears
that there may be some sort of bug when sending the column in via Jiles' ads
submission system. I admit it, I was lazy and didn't bother to send it out with the
turn. Sorry guys, I know how y'all anxiously await to see what words of wisdom my
Duelmasters can come up with. -- Flagg :-)

Editor -- Just wanted to see if you were paying attention! -- Flagg

     Zzzzzz...hmmm? What's that? -- Ed.

Harby -- As always, I love reading your handiwork! -- Flagg

Problematic -- Amazing the way you control the rebound there. No else has made such
efficient use of the Bumper's bouncing capability. I salute you. -- Harby
P.S. And, of course, there's nothing like securing the scum-sympathy vote to enhance
one's popularity. Good move.

Snappy George -- I could TOO kill a houseplant! Just watch! -- El Rippoff, squaring
off against a philodendron

Yankee Dan -- Gods, man, if you hadn't told that joke in the second minute...! I was
laughing so hard that fighting was impossible! Fiendish. -- John Rose

Gate Witch -- There should be a law against witches in the arena. You used some
subtle art to defeat me (the infamous "Getting the Jump Cantrip" would be my guess).
(sigh) Good fight. -- Ann Artichoke

Hairlip Bombshell -- Does that make it easier to kiss men with buck teeth? -- Sushee
Su

Gate Witch -- I was never a toad! Toads are run by TigToad, not Harby. -- Ann
Artichoke

Let it be known far and wide, that the Warrior TUM 18-7380, the Champions Runner-Up
for the recent Tournament, is managed by none other than Shocking Toad. I named this
fabulous warrior after my friend and mentor, TUM, a.k.a. Don! Sorry TUM didn't get
me my first TC; however, a runner-up with all those sandbaggers is pretty impressive,
if I do say so myself. -- Shocking Toad, The Manager

All -- This is to announce that I am no longer a member of the Vendetta Cartel
Alliance. I have enjoyed my time there, and I've made some great friends. Their
company will be missed, but they will endure. I wish them well. -- Apex
