Rodeki:
The gladiator Adabemis & Balmador surveyed the structure and scowled. It was
supposed to be the first Rodekian Temple of the Dark Arts, and it looked
unfortunately like exactly what it was: a slightly refurbished warehouse. "Plenty of
room for a large congregation," Adabemis said, looking for a bright side.
Balmador immediately countered with, "Bah! It looks two-bit. Small time.
Dingy. Back alley. Peasantish--"
"Princess Tirisha will bring money," Adabemis argued. "She'll get it fixed up
once she gets here from Xochithlan."
"Like she cares about the cult!" Balmador sneered. "It's just a means to an end
for her."
"But she's an initiate! Not a gladiator, I mean she's one of the Inner Circle!"
Adabemis protested. The Dwarf noticed that people were beginning to stare at them;
they scowled, then moved away down the street. "What we really need," Adabemis went
on, "is for Lady Flagg to come back. I bet SHE could fix up that Temple really
nicely."
"Her husband wouldn't like that," Balmedor pointed out. "He doesn't trust us."
Both personalities regarded this in silence for a few moments. Then the Dwarf
nodded. "We'll have to kill him."
SPY REPORT
Much has changed in RODEKI since last I was here. Never fear, Olaf Modeen
adapts to many situations, as do all successful fighters. Major screwup at KING'S
KREW. CARRIE lost 12 points to LIMPY TWO-SCREWS. Some new strategies, perhaps?
Maybe CARRIE will provide more easy wins... Another fighter (PROBLEMATIC 20-15-0)
challenged another Duelmaster (SNAPPY GEORGE 15-6-0). Life goes on. PROBLEMATIC was
reminded on the sands why SNAPPY GEORGE is Duelmaster. Wouldn't it be nice to have
live subjects to practice on? I hear some team is looking into the uses of convicted
prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. The
most avoided team was KING'S KREW. In my day, no team with a 50-91-2 would scare me
off! What's the problem, CLOWNING AROUND? What do people see in STERLING? His
16-13-3? FLAGG'S FIVE ain't talkin', but he's got 76 points. GUNSLINGER of KING'S
KREW knows how to pick 'em. He challenged STERLING of FLAGG'S FIVE who is up by 18.
Now was this a wise move? GUNSLINGER perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he
defeated STERLING and ended up with 88 recognition points. I hate going to the
effort of writing about the kind of fights that YANKEE DAN gets in. He fights people
like JOHN ROSE, 14 points below. I thought YANKEE DAN showed great skill and promise
when he beat JOHN ROSE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Warriors of RODEKI unite. You have only your games to lose! How long have I
been here? I got people to see, places to go...
Many other cities have retirement homes for aged warriors. Any plans here? Are
you as tired of reading this as I am of writing it? Actually, I guess I'm writing it
before you read it. Oh, well. Time for my medication, so I'll leave now. Practice,
practice, practice!-- Olaf Modeen

PERSONAL ADS
Problematic -- I hold you PERSONALLY responsible for the Bumper graduating. Sure,
you beat it, but that's not enough. You should've killed the damned thing rather
than.... (sigh) Oh, well. Obviously, the gods were feeling whimsical. -- Harby
P.S. The Bumper is 13-21-10-4-14-7-15 and actually managed to achieve an expert
rating in parry. It's got four stupid statements but has good endurance and can take
a tremendous amount of damage. LS, very low/low.
Gate Witch -- I've been ripped off! By a hairy, bearded witch of a Dwarf, too, which
makes it worse. Or maybe a Dwarf of a witch? Whichever. -- El Rippoff
Draxus Bremoore -- That is not news. I already KNEW I didn't like hospitals. We
should've found out how YOU feel about them. -- Ann Artichoke
Yankee Dan -- Am I supposed to laugh? -- John Rose, not feeling amused
Fuzzy Buzzcut -- (hissing intensely) I'll GET you for that. -- Sushee Su
Yankee Dan -- Well, at least I'm good for something. -- John Rose, teacher supreme
Gate Witch -- Careful how you approach me. I AM named after a thistle, after all. --
Ann Artichoke, prickly when she needs to be
Flagg -- Two managers volunteered warriors, but nobody volunteered time, and I'm
short on it because of the Face to Face. But even if I don't get something done in
time for this newsletter, there should be good stuff for the next one. -- Harby
Flagg -- Will it count as a quake if I shiver with cold? I could dedicate my
goosebumps to your new alliance. -- Harby
Sterling -- I shall dish it out--hopefully this turn, you mere mortal! -- Gunslinger
Flagg -- Yes, it is I, King Ralph of King's Krew who has risen from the ashes to
reclaim my throne! Gone are the days of Attack of the Scrags and We Blow Bubbles!
Alas, those were better days filled with cold, hard steel and our fallen enemies
beneath our feet. Now, having returned triumphantly to at long lost Rodeki arena, my
heart is heavy knowing that there are limited battles between warriors with our
immense experience. I raise my golden chalice to you, Flagg of Flagg's Fire, and to
the Delvers team for a very long and productive run. Cheers! -- King Ralph

ZalCon2 Updates (1/9/04)
The contest will be starting on the turn due February 23rd, 2004 and run for 20
turns.
Only one team will be allowed for each manager in the contest, regardless of
whether additional teams are announced as contest entries. No exceptions for any
reason.
The Style Master points should read that there is +1 point for beating a member
of your own style even if the warrior is not registered for the contest.
Rolling points for consecutive turns as Style Master means that your warrior
gets the extra point every turn after the first 3 that he continues to hold the
title.
The points for Quality Wins should be clarified to read the winning warrior is
ranked below by the number of recognition points needed for each bonus point at the
start of the fight. For example, Warrior A (3-2-0, 17) beats Warrior B (4-1-0, 35)
and receives 2 bonus points under Quality Win for the 18 point difference in the
ranking.
I believe that is all the clarifications for the moment, please feel free to
email, diplo, call or write me with any other questions or concerns about the
contest.

CHAOTIC WINDS
Once, long ago, the four Winds of Time descended upon Alastari like a TEMPEST of
epic proportions, they slew everything within their all-encompassing reach. They
left nothing. In their wake lay smoldering ruins.
In their haste they sped towards the center of this great land like a colossal
giant would step across an ocean. The four storms picked up momentum on their way
towards each other. A collision was eminent.
The first storm wind, the oldest and wisest of the four was named APEXALUS. The
second, FLAGGSTAFF, was the quickest and loudest entity ever created. The third Wind
of Time was MATRIATIN, neither old or young, quick or slow, but fierce and feisty all
the same. The forth wind, ASSAMITHIUS, the youngest yet most creative in its means
of destruction.
When finally they merged at the center of ALASTARI, an incredible destructive
explosion occurred. And when the smoke and debris cleared they were one. CHAOS was
born.
And Chaos spread across the diminished lands reeking havoc and doom with its
passing, and destroying allover again that which already lay in ruin.
