                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Rodeki,

Wow! I didn't think the day would finally get here! Flagg's Aimed Blows
usually die well before getting into double digits of fight count. Seeing as how
he's forgotten how to manage, as if he ever knew how, coupled with the fact that I'm
no beauty when it comes to skill, and I'm glad to get my invite to the Isle. There
was one cycle where he mysteriously had me train Will for no apparent reason, as if
that would have helped my survivability.
I would like to mention that it seems that Rodeki appears to have become a
little bit of a blood-thirsty town. I've spoken with my stable mates and have asked
them to reconsider how they run their affairs. No need to burn bridges when one is
looking for an Alliance to partner with! Take care, Rodeki! I hope to see you all
on the Isle one day!

Lady Protector Rima Adler

                                      SPY REPORT

So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. Say good-bye to SHREDDERS, as they are pushed
from the coveted top team spot by the FLAGG'S FIVE stable. It looks like the guys(?)
at FLAGG'S FIVE had a good week as they went 5-0-1 to put them in 1st place. I guess
steroids help! And falling like a basher in the top ten was IGRINA SOCKINETTE, who
dropped 10 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with GAVEN ADLER.
Well here's a duelmaster that doesn't sit back and say 'Challenge me'! RIMA ADLER
made a challenge against TRUGOY THE DOVE this week. Going for the gusto and coming
up with aught but bloody knuckles was INTELLECTS OF HIPHOP's TRUGOY THE DOVE, who was
turned away from the Duelmastership by RIMA ADLER. Advice to bashers--never force
anything, just get a bigger halberd!
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid FLAGG'S FIVE, please raise you hand.
Wow. Does RODEKI really have that many liars? For those of you who like math, try
this one: FLAGG'S FIVE + Weapons That go Boom = SHREDDERS + Avoid City. And who is
this KARLIGRENA you ask, with 88 points and a 15-14-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could
tell! In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, DIMEBAG went after JURGENHALEN,
who was higher by 21 points. Well, when the dust settled, DIMEBAG won victory over
JURGENHALEN.
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! Remember: alliances are great,
but try and take your ally in the arena with you and see what happens.
Well, there's the manager of the RODEKI giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the world's
best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. And remember, you
can pick your friends and you can pick your--(loud boos), oh, you've heard that one
already!-- The Unknown Spymaster

C-Pappy -- Thanks for the fight! I was very often afraid to challenge you, because
of my stable mate's experience against you. -- Rima Adler

Slash -- I see why you're so highly regarded around here. I almost embarassed my
self there. -- Hippo Huntress

Trugoy -- I'm going to figure you out one of these days! -- Gaven Adler

Frampton -- I think I may have learned something about my base skills today. *frown*
-- Terminal Sapper
P.S. Way to welcome a fella to Rodeki!

Gilbert -- You're welcome. Next time, kill me. I'm so tired of working in Rodeki's
mines and then coming to the arena to fight on Saturday mornings! -- Dig Foreman

Isengalen -- If, but, you were a hippo! -- Hippo Huntress

Jurgenhalen -- The HUNT is on! She has but a small lead. I shall catch her in time!
-- Hippo Huntress

Our congratulations to Rima Adler. -- Harby and the Delvers

Padanous -- Ah! That looks... (pause to study the records involved) That looks like
we have each other's records. Or we're on the wrong teams. -- Elifas Kent

Talib Kweli -- Darn. Not my day. Maybe I should go delve some. -- Isengalen

Armored Echo -- That just goes through my head like knives. Much too loud! -- Igrina
Sockinette

Khalhums Dwarves have nothing on us when it comes to digging in and being, ah,
forceful. -- Karligrena

Karmic Kudzu -- A disturbing concept. Where does your manager FIND these weird
types? -- Jurgenhalen
P.S. Actually, what Harby said was, "Cool name. Another winner from Suave."

Ever wonder how the whole challenge/avoid thing works?
Who you fight depends on exactly how it works. We will never know exactly how it
works unless we can get a look at the coding for the program, but this is how I think
it works:

The Situation:
The system allows a warrior to make two separate challenges and two distinct
avoids.
Avoids are distinct in that they MUST indicate a specific team to be avoided, so
a "double avoid" indicates a single team twice, which by default means you are
avoiding one team. In this case, the second avoid is a duplicate and therefore a
waste of an avoid.
Challenges are to specific warriors. You have a first challenge, and then you
have a second challenge.

The Process:
First the computer removes all Dark Arena challengers from the list of available
warriors.
Second, the computer checks for WHO fights WHO by going though all TVs and
bloodfeuds, which are 100% sure to go through except in four instances:
     1. the warrior challenged does not fight,
     2. the warrior challenged is also making a bloodfeud or TV challenge and that
challenge has already been assigned,
     3. the warrior has already been assigned to a Dark Arena fight,
     4. that warrior has declared your team to be one of his warrior's avoids,
reducing your challenge to 50%.
Third, the computer assesses all the regular first-challenge warriors and assigns
fights. All other challenges are at 100% chance of success except in a few instances:
warrior challenged is going to the DA, warrior challenged is involved in a previously
assigned challenge, warrior challenged is not running this turn, or warrior challenged
has avoided your team at 50% chance to avoid.
Fourth, the computer assesses and assigns all secondary challenges of warriors
not so far assigned for bloodfeuds and TVs.
Fifth, the computer assesses and assigns all the regular second challenges.
Sixth, the computer assigns random matchups in each available class starting with
the highest class first.
Seventh, the computer finds the remaining warriors that have successfully avoided
all first and second challenges and/or who also did not get randomly assigned, AND for
whom no more available warriors remain in their class for random pairing. All of
these warriors get RSI-generated warriors to fight based on their class.
So, if I'm right and avoids reduce the chance for a challenge to 50%, then:
In the absence of an avoid
          single challenge = 100% success
double challenge = 100% success, then an additional 100% success
     Where an avoid is involved
single challenge vs avoid = 50% success
          double challenge vs avoid = 75% (chance to avoid is 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25; 1 -
0.25 = 75% chance to succeed

Bloodfeuds and TVs may increase the percentage chance of success above 100%, or
they may not. I feel that their increased ability to get through is based solely on
the way the computer assigns challenges. They are first, so they are most likely to
go through. The 100% chance for a challenge to succeed is 100% if it's a TV bloodfeud
and you are the first one to get assigned a fight that day because you are also the
Duelmaster. But after that the chances start to diminish rapidly.
The run-through for second challenges theoretically means your challenge should
be 100% but it's not the case if you are the LAST guy the computer goes to for finding
challenges.
If you don't double challenge, you significantly lower your chance to get your
challenge through. The second challenge is not equal to the first challenge.
