Hail and well met warriors of RODEKI! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. BLASTMASTER KRS caught the eye of many in
the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested MORDANT DESERTER and was awarded
14 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, SUICIDE KING put
down ANVIL, causing him to lose 12 points of recognition in the process. Although
VETERAN MERCENARY made a valiant effort, it did not suffice to topple the reign of
victorious STUD. Would you believe that over half of the old women in RODEKI seem to
feel that they could fight better than you gladiators?
But come now, let us look deeper into the maze of contention and crossed blades
that is city RODEKI. RODEKI, city of gladiators! Mighty among the names of thy
guilds is DELVERS, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the weekly duels. If you
didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to find any of DARKHOLM
last week. Busy avoiding DELVERS? Mighty fighters cannot but expect competition
from those below. JURGENHALEN take warning! You have more than a few enemies in
RODEKI. I can not but mention with disdain the name of BONSUR BUTCHER who this week
posted a TV challenge to a warrior a full 15 points below in the rankings. I thought
BONSUR BUTCHER showed great skill and promise when he overcame OMAHA. All right, so
I slept through it! Big deal!
Is not Death a warrior's foremost adviser? Warriors, may this counselor stand
ready at your right hand forever! Some say a warrior is judged by the way he bears
arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise
manager learn the secrets of them all? Sadly warriors, now longer can I keep thy
company nor savor the ale of thy fine city. Depart I must and soon! Till next we

There was a line outside the Gladiatorial Commission's registry office. There
often was, but surely not now? Alarond the Scribe, who had drawn office duty today,
frowned at them.
A stocky, fit, moderately handsome gladiator stepped up to the counter. "I want a
name-change," he said. "How can I do my best known as," he shuddered, "'Dangling
Eyeball'? My name is Joe, and I want to use it."
A small and very shapely woman stepped up beside him. "And I am really tired of
being known as 'DA Bait'." She smiled, causing Alarond to sway where he stood. "I'd
like to be known as... Aphrodite, I think."
The others crowded forward, each advancing a claim, the babble of voice rising to
a roar, the crowd beginning to look like a mob--and every member of it armed and
dangerous.
Alarond raised his hands to quiet them, without much success. He raised his
voice, too. "We'll do it! A Name-Change-O-Rama, as soon as we can get the paperwork
lined up! Two or three months, maybe--"
The gladiators howled in protest at the delay.
"No, listen! The files here are HUGE, it will take time to get everything
straight. You've got to be patient. It WILL happen!"
