                                    TEAM SPOTLIGHT

It is said that when Fate has smiled upon you, even Death himself begins to take
a liking to you. Such is the power of her favor that every trip seems pregnant with
possibility and all things go your way.
     "Damn the fates."
These are the thoughts of Anvengen Kale upon her massive voyage through both
land and sea. From her own arena of Noblish Island, the land of endless rain, to the
massive mountain ranges of Rodeki, she travels to give both guidance and medical
treatment to her fresh gladiatorial stable. Even after leaving the isle, it
continued to rain. For days. Her coach ride South was leaky, squeaky, and all
around terrible. She came upon Rodeki on the fourth day of her journey. The rain
had finally let up almost twenty minutes ago, much to Anvengen's delight, so she
changed into dry clothes in the coach to prepare for her arrival.
When she was at last upon the miners' town she paid her driver and stepped out
only to be almost floored by the sights awaiting her. The early morning sun had just
peeked its head out from behind the Daggerspine Mountains, its rays being diffused
through the heavy mist cloaking the mountains to provide an effect that looked as the
Peaks were made of luminescent liquid fire.
"I don't remember that from last time..." Anvengen mused. Shaking the sight out
of her vision she made her way to the arena where, of course, the duels were already
underway. Showing her manager's identification to the attendant allowed her entrance
into the gladiator holding area. There were several wounded gladiators already
present with their managers watching from the confines of "The Pit." She closed her
eyes and took a deep breath. "This is my home," she thought. The smell of blood,
sweat, and death hangs heavily in the air. Her eyes snap open as an arm slipped
around her shoulder.
"Hey there, sweet thing," Vale Kandor, leader of Stormblades, said with an
adorable smile.
Anvengen wasn't having it. "I notice a small wound on your leg. I assume you
won, then?" she asked.
"Nah. Wouldn't want to mess up this pretty face would I?" he quipped with the
same smile.
A loud gasp from the audience drew her attention. When she looked out upon the
sand, Rolayt stood above a warrior she didn't recognize, with his weapon straight out
in a lunging pose.
"Get off me. You're pathetic." Anvengen fumed, throwing his arm off her with
enough force to throw him off balance.
She turned to walk away and stopped so completely, it was as if she had never
been walking in the first place, the stillness making her look almost like an un-
animated golem. She spoke clearly and decisively, "Anyone without a win goes to the
Dark Arena. I'm sick of your arrogance and self-entitlement. Win there and then you
can speak to me as you like." She walked out of the pit without another word, sights
set upon her coach.

                                      SPY REPORT

Hail and well met warriors of RODEKI! Know me for who I am, Zontani Sharp Eyes,
Spymaster extraordinaire of all Alastari. IKE NIGHTSHIELD caught the eye of many in
the gladiatorial commission as he skillfully bested BEER and was awarded 16 points in
recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, IKE NIGHTSHIELD put down BEER,
causing him to lose 14 points of recognition in the process. Unwilling to wait upon
the will of others, Duelmaster STUD challenged ROCKSNAIL last week in a match to
decide the fate of the throne. The city has turned out in honor of ROCKSNAIL, for
with its arena victory it may now lay claim to the highest position in the city!
Would you believe that over half of the old women in RODEKI seem to feel that they
could fight better than you gladiators?
Many and various are the arts of battle. In RODEKI "art" is a word that has
long since passed from the language! RODEKI, city of gladiators! Mighty among the
names of thy guilds is DEALER'S CHOICE, a guild shunned and avoided by many in the
weekly duels. If you didn't look down dark alleys you'd have been hard pressed to
find any of THE SOVEREIGN last week. Busy avoiding DEALER'S CHOICE? Loose talk at
the arena has reached my ears and it but confirms the knowledge that many fighters
are after SILVER LADY. Watch your back!
Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more
than its fair share of red in recent times. Some say a warrior is judged by the way
he bears arms. One thing is sure, better a dagger in hand then a sword on the belt!
The girls are as pretty in RODEKI as ever I remembered them....and the fighters
as ugly! Don't let your reputation slip! More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed
a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me!
Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a
different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes

Joseph George -- Looks like my manager knows what he's talking about. -- Long-N-Slim

Joseph G. -- Oops... my bad *smiles innocently* -- Jade

Silver Lady -- You are a good warrior, always close, I am, yet so far... *frowns* --
Long-N-Slim

Good job Ike, tis about time. -- Scorpio

Welcome, Avengen Kale, I take it you're the same Avengen Kale in Noblish? -- Scorpio
P.S. If so, welcome to the Big Leagues. *grins wickedly*

Scorpio -- You consider a kill desire of five, four, or even three to be "so high"?
In 2080 fights, I have killed 22 warriors and standbys; I've had 39 die as of October
of last year (not counting "dead on first fight" which don't show up on the Dead
Tourney miniovers). If a kill desire of five, my normal one, is "so high," I should
have had more kills, should I not? That's barely over one percent. I console myself
with the thought that if you continue to over-react to an accidental death, one of
the managers who IS bloodthirsty WILL demonstrate true bloodthirst. -- Harby

As regards "radical races," what difference does it make? If you don't role-play the
race, that's one meaningless word at the top of the fight. If you do role-play the
race, it doesn't MATTER if that word is there. I think we should take the "race"
issue OUT of the game. Let managers demonstrate race by role-play. -- Harby

One-four. Another day, another slow, non-bloodthirsty turn. -- Harby

                        WINTER FACE-TO-FACE IN SUNNY ARIZONA!

Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 16-18, 2015. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-897-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $149.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception, free airport
shuttle, free parking and free high speed internet. There's a fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--code RSI.

Please make your reservations now if you plan to go. This is prime season for
Phoenix, and this year will be crazy: the Superbowl, Phoenix Open, auto auction, PF
Chang's Marathon, and more are all during that time. The hotel will be filling up
quickly and I won't be able to add rooms to the block after they are full. So please
book your room now -- if you can't make it you can cancel your reservation, but we
hope you do!

Look for the tournament info sheet and minioverviews some time in December. We hope
you're all looking forward to it and that we will see you there!
