     Abandoned as babes on the slopes of the great mountain, deformed and freakish,
thought to have been born with the curse of the gods upon them.  The outcast had
found them there, five of the most twisted and ugly creatures he had ever seen.  He
thought to leave them, it was the will of the gods after all.  As ugly as they were
something in them warmed his heart.  A sudden fire burned within him and a sudden
bloody thought.  REVENGE.  He too had been cast out as a child.  Called the wretched
one, the twisted bastard.  Wherever he went he went he was chased, scorned, and
beaten.  Everyone in the neighboring villages had come to call him "Wretch" and
that's what he went by.  He looked down at the pathetic babes wailing on the ground
and smiled to himself.  These were his children brought to him by the gods, shaped in
his own image, for him to raise as he deemed fit.
     He would raise them to be weapons.  To crush and destroy all that had ever
looked down at him.  All who had beaten an chased him.  All who had made him into the
twisted person he was now, the Wretch.  And so it was he raised the children in the
arctic wastes.  He gave them powerful names from the wastes itself.  They would draw
on the wastes itself to give them power and make them as strong as possible.  They
were named Glacier, Muskeg, Permafrost, Tundra, and White Bear.  Powerful names do
indeed make powerful deeds.  The Northlands were never the same again and no one ever
forgot those names again.  Used by parents to frighten their children into good
behavior.  They would whisper "Don't go outside at night or the Arctic Wastes will
get you" and the children knew if they did, they would.
     From the great white North, from the frozen unforgiving wastes, emerges a group
of fur clad barbarians.  Blood drinkers and soul stealers all bent on chaos and
destruction.  Five of the most twisted individuals ever to have been spawned on this
earth.  Spurned and feared by all in the barrens of the North.  They are the dregs,
the wastes of the tundra.  They are the Arctic Wastes and they have come to bring
their sadistic brand of entertainment to you and your city.  Blood calls.  Will it be

                               Chapter the Second 251

     How long had it been since MUTANT HAMMERZ had strode upon the Sands of
StormCrowe?  It really did not matter to Hammer how long it had been.  Were these
warriors as good as they had appeared to be?  Their competitors that much inferior to
the ones who had gone on before and after this stable had deactivated so many long
cycles ago?  Hammer thought that thought to be absurd and decided to await the
Challenges that would surely come to prove the worth of these warriors.
     Already the plan had enfolded in the veteran manager's mind to exterminate this
stable should a certain X-factor befall the fate of his warriors.  Last cycle's
performance had proven that each gladiator was trying to improve themselves and
achieve the goal of graduation.  Each had improved themselves in the Win Column and
gained valuable experience in the fighting prowess on the StormCrowe Sands.  Yet the
improvement of Skill Learns was widely varied and would prove by the passage of time
the outcome.
     These were not important to the purpose and plan of Hammer to send to the Tempe
Facer Proxy for Skillful Development.  For there were other matters at hand to attend
to in other stables in other arenas with the coming of the New Year for Hammer to
address and initiate in the coming weeks of the first month of Sand Battles.  Yet
there may be one MUTANT warrior worthy to engage in the gladiatorial mayhem of the
Temp Facer.  Another Sand Battle in StormCrowe Arena would surely make the decision
plain.  Now where was the one called Wretch and his ARCTIC WASTES and how would they
fare against the REDNECKS crew of Maximillian the Mad and the other Initiates too?

                             Notes from the arena champ.

Greetings warriors of Stormcrowe!  I haven't addressed the masses of this arena since
taking the throne, and I would opt out of this time also if not for Master Darque.
He says that I have to make a speech and greet the new teams to the arena.

Welcome to Rednecks and to the returning Mutant Hammerz!  I hope you enjoy your time
in Stormcrowe and stay awhile.  I could have done that in a personal ad, but the
little demon is a stickler for formality!

I will be challenging and avoiding this turn.  I believe my blind luck has run out
and the fates would do me a great injustice if I do not become more active in my
advancing career.  I will be challenging Walrus this turn and avoiding Men of Ill
Repute.  I like to live dangerously myself and would have challenged The Transient,
but Master Darque says that only a fool would make such a, how did he put it,
"blatant and miscalculated, bonehead move" such as that.  I think it has something to
do with our preferred styles of fighting but I'm not sure.

                                      SPY REPORT

     Hail STORMCROWE!  Warriors of the arena, prepare to be praised and blamed for 
your deeds.  It seems the training can make the difference, as MEN OF ILL REPUTE is 
pushed out of top team by MUTANT HAMMERZ, who came from 4th with a 4-1-0 this turn.  
MUTANT HAMMERZ stable has parlayed this turn's 4-1-0 into a 3 space move up the 
rankings.  This brings them up to 1st place.  Good work, guys!  On their very first 
turn, ARCTIC WASTES had a 4-1-0, and with this kind of luck or skill, should do well. 
Welcome to STORMCROWE.  And let's see, THE BRIDE fought CANNONBALL HAMMER and gained 
20 points and contributed to DARQUE FORCES' 3-2-0.  CANNONBALL HAMMER has lost to THE 
BRIDE, falling 17 points, while helping make MUTANT HAMMERZ a 4-1-0 turn.  Defending 
hers title for another turn, LULU kept NORTHERN LIGHTS' warrior, WALRUS, from 
claiming the throne.  By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last night, 
cramped under the table at The Shadow's Fountain?   
     I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling.  A basher 
friend of mine assures me this is true.  I also notice that the THE FIVE RONIN stable 
was the most avoided team this turn.  Come on STORMCROWE, what are you afraid of?  
And guess who avoided THE FIVE RONIN stable the most?  Believe it or not, it was 
DARQUE FORCES.  Anyone surprised?   
     We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and 
shave it close?  We'd like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their 
enemies.  You know who you are; and it's considered rude.   
     Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe.  Dare 
to fight bravely.  It's been nice chatting with you, until we meet again, keep your

ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)

As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea.  This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005.  RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:

*  I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
   use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
*  I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena.  If circumstances
   preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
*  I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
*  I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
   the Dark Arena until they are dead.
*  I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
   the Dark Arena until they are dead.

The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1.  No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2.  One team per manager.
3.  Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
    this arena.)
4.  No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5.  Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6.  Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI
    authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
    warrior is dead).
7.  Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.

The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
*  Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
   are dead.  This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
   player's warrior to the Dark Arena
*  Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
   Arena.

The player with the most votes for Chairman will fill slot 1 [Chairperson] and that
term expires end of March 2007.
The player with the most votes overall will fill slot 5 and that term expires end of
November 2007.
The player with the second most votes overall will fill slot 4 and that term expires
end of September 2007.
The player with the third most votes overall will fill slot 3 and that term expires
end of November 2007.
The player with the fourth most votes overall will fill slot 2 and that term expires
end of May 2007.

During the month that the chairperson's term expires the Player Committee will select
one of the remaining 4 players to be the next chairperson.  During the month that any
member's term expires the arena will vote for a different player to join the Players'
Committee.

The Honor of Sunset Award:
     The first team to reach 10 Team Kills.  In the case that there is more than one
team that achieves 10 Team Kills on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most kills.  If two or more teams are tied for Team Kills, I will prolong
the contest until one team has the most Kills in the Arena (it does not have to be
one of the teams that first reached 10 Team Kills.)

The Race to Victory Award:
     The first team to reach 75 Team Wins.  In the case that there is more than one
team that reaches 75 Team wins on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most wins.  If two or more teams are tied for Team Wins, I will prolong the
contest until one team has the most wins in the Arena (it does not have to be one of
the teams that first reached 75 Team Wins.)

The Commitment to Change Award:
     The first team to reach 125 Team Fights.  In the case that there is more than
one team that reaches 125 Team Fights on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
team with the most fights.  If two or more teams are tied for Team Fights, I will
prolong the contest until one team has the most fights in the Arena (it does not have
to be one of the teams that first reached 125 Team Fights.)  I hope I never give out
this award {figure it out on your own.}

The Team Advancement Award:
     The first team to graduate 5 warriors to ADM.  In the case that there is more
than 1 team that graduates 5 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
first team to graduate 6 warriors.  In the case that there is more than 1 team that
graduates 6 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the first team to
graduate 7 warriors, and so on.

The Iron Throne Award:
     The first team to hold the Duelmaster for 10 turns STARTING ON TURN 11.

The Stylemaster Award.
     The first team to hold the Stylemaster Award in 7 different styles, STARTING ON
TURN 11.  If two teams obtain Stylemaster Awards in 7 styles on the same turn, the
goal will be increased to 8 Styles.

Team Recognition Points:  The total recognition points for all warriors in the arena
The Iron Throne Ledger:  We will track who has been the Duelmaster every turn in
     Arena history.
Iron Throne Counter:  The total number of times a team has been the Duelmaster.
Composite Team Stylemaster awards:  The number of times a team has had any of the 10
     Stylemasters.  Having 2 Stylemasters = 2 points that turn.
Challenge win percentage:  How often your warriors win when they challenge.
Challenge Defender rate:  How often your warriors win when they WERE challenged.
Team Invitations:  Number of warriors graduated to ADM.
Team Graduation Rate:  Total team fights/Graduated Warriors.
Team Kill Percentage:  Total of team Kills/Team Fights
Team Death Percentage:  Total of Team Deaths/Team Fights
Team Revenge Rate: Number of Deaths/BloodFeuds Revenged (Note that the Dark Arena
     will be counted as not-revenged.)  You only get credit for one successful
     BloodFeud per death (though I encourage you to BloodFeud all 4 turns.)
Current Win Streaks:  Warriors that have gone the most turns without losing or
     missing a turn.
Team Yahtzee counter:  Number of times a team has gone 5-0 in a turn.
Team Bagel counter:  Number of times a team has fought without a win.
Team Dark Arena counter:  Number of times each team has used the Dark Arena.
The Most Feared (avoided) Team counter:  Number of turns that team was the most
     avoided team.
