A change in the lead, but still no dominant front runner yet. The one through
six spots have been consistent with a few up and downs to keep it close. Kill has
been the difference maker so far, and Teams 2 and 5 have been benefited the most from
the extra two points. Will this create a problem for them as they face the Blood
Feuds? No one knows for sure, but it will be watched with interest in the coming
turns.

of the managers returns to activity, but until then, I'm just keeping the board clean

The Meeting
Kat had been welcomed into the Mutant Hammerz guild house by a very gracious
steward and did not have to wait long before Hammer called him into his personal
study. The two were old friends, having served in the Vendetta Cartel together many
years earlier. Their manners and methods were miles apart, but they had always found
a common ground of civility between them upon which they could meet.
They went quickly through the normal pleasantries that people exchange and then
turned to the grave matter of Maximillian. Neither was sure of the manager's
whereabouts and each had an invested, though very different, interest in the
barbarian's location.
"Do you know anything about an item called the Portal of Ghosts?" Kat finally
asked, knowing their continued conversation about Maximillian would garner no new
information.
"You do not mean the Blasphemous Portal of Ghosts do you, my friend? I know
many things about that accursed item and none of them good. Why are you interested
in such a thing?"
Kat said nothing, but only gave a knowing glance to the friendly manager.
"So Darque has taken an interest in it," he concluded. "He would do well to
stay away from such an evil. He may find himself with more trouble than he wishes to
deal with in this realm."
"He has more than a passing interest in the portal. Tell me what you know of it
and I will be the little demon's conscience, an element he lacks at times," the
Aruaki mused. "I know that it will open a doorway into Ahringol's realm and allow
the movement of spirits unhindered from the land of the dead to Alastari, but nothing
beyond that most common of knowledge."
Hammer was silent as he mulled over a few thoughts. He did not know if giving
full disclosure to Kat would help or hinder. Maximillian was missing, so Kat would
be the only person left in Alastari that could talk any sense into the curious
wizard. He decided he would reveal all he knew to the Aruaki.
"What you have said to me is only the wives' tale that spreads throughout the
land. It serves its purpose well enough by keeping the fearful from seeking after
such an artifact as the portal, but it does little to deter men, or half-men in the
case of Darque."
Kat was not surprised his information on the Portal of Ghosts was sub par. He
rarely dealt in the Arcane arts or its components, which was Darque's area of
expertise. However, he was not prepared for what Hammer told him next.
"The Portal of Ghosts is not just a doorway to Ahringol's realm. No, no. It is
much more powerful," Hammer took a deep breath before continuing as he realized the
magnitude of what he was about to say. "It is a portal to all of the realms of the
dead throughout multiple planes of existence. Tapping the power of the portal not
only unlocks Ahringol's domain, but the domain of countless other deities of death."
The Aruaki came forward in his chair, "What?" He could not believe that the
little demon would meddle with something so powerful. He then remembered seeing the
near completed disc in Darque's possession. The thousands of intricate symbols upon
the face of the stone were not decorative accents as he first believed, but symbols
of death deities. "He has truly lost his mind!"
Hammer was expecting the reaction and allowed Kat a few moments to vent and
unleash a string of obscenities directed at Darque and the Portal of Ghosts. Few had
seen Kat act in such a manner, but Hammer knew the regularly poised manager had a
fire burning in his eyes that needed releasing on occasion. What better time than
now Hammer thought. After a few moments the Aruaki regained his composure.
"Pardon the outburst," Kat tried his best to adjust his tunic and flatten his
ruffled hair. "I did not know the little one delved so deeply into areas that are
best left untouched. I will do my best to try and convince him otherwise."
A small chuckle escaped Hammer's lips. He leaned forward as one guarding a
valuable secret from listening ears, "You know as well as I that Darque will not stop
his mad quest until he sees it to completion. You have little choice in the matter
except to see these events to their conclusion."
"Are you suggesting I help him find this damnable portal?" Kat was shocked that
Hammer would even suggest this course of action.
Hammer smiled at the assumption, "You heard me correctly my friend, but I
believe you are misunderstanding my intent." He ran his hand over his shaved head
and thought of how best to explain his words. "I consider Darque a friend, but
frankly, some of his schemes go contrary to my ethical standing."
"Yeah, he is an evil little bastard," Kat added.
Hammer shrugged in nervous agreement, "I found through the years the best way to
keep him in check and not allow his plans to kill himself, those around him, or
endanger all of Alastari is to just go along with them. You can do so much more good
for all by staying close to him and making sure the end result is not disastrous for
all involved."
"This sounds great and I have a new respect for you Hammer, but Darque is not
some fool carnival patron that you can blind with parlor tricks and sleight of hand."
Kat was genuinely surprised that Hammer would suggest such subterfuge, but he was not
convinced it would work with Darque.
"True, true. The little demon is not a fool, but he is easily blinded by his
own ambition," Hammer revealed. "I did not say the task would be easy, but it is
necessary. The Blasphemous Portal of Ghosts is not an artifact for Darque to toy
with in this realm."
The Aruaki stood and prepared to leave. "I thank you for your time Hammer. I
must be off onto my next errand and check for reports of Maximillian. I will
consider your advice," though Kat knew his associate was correct in his assessment of
Darque and the Portal of Ghosts.
"Fare thee well, my friend! May His light shine upon you!" Hammer stood to wish
Kat goodbye.

I doubt STORMCROWE will ever be the same. It seems the training can make the
difference, as OLD MAN RIVER is pushed out of top team by DARQUE FORCES, who came
from 2nd with a 3-2-0 this turn. Now keep the taverns open late tonight, for there
are sorrows to drown for MAIDEN JAPAN, whose 1-2-0 this turn dropped them by 6 into
18th. The ERRATA guild has had a 4-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the
future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, SPEAKS IN
TONGUES fought 121 and gained 20 points and contributed to MIRACLE WORKSHOP's 3-2-0.
BEAST HAMMER has lost to TUNDRA, falling 13 points, while helping make MUTANT HAMMERZ
a 2-3-0 turn. This turn AUNTY ENTITY challenged ANGEL HAMMER in what was
STORMCROWE's Title bout. And not without some honor, ANGEL HAMMER now claims the
title and throne of Duelmaster of STORMCROWE. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have
heard from unimpeachable sources that The Shadow's Fountain uses trolls in their
stew. Talk about gristle!
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. I also notice that the KELLUMBO'S KIDS
stable was the most avoided team this turn. Come on STORMCROWE, what are you afraid
of? And avoiding KELLUMBO'S KIDS more than any other team we find NOSTALGIA.
STORMCROWE, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing? Well, sports
fans, take notice that DICE from SRETSAMLEUD II was STORMCROWE's most challenged
warrior this turn. Tsk, tsk, tsk. BOLING, does your manager know you're challenging
down 22 points to fight MAGMUS MARTUM from PACIS EX NEX? It pains me to see warriors
take advantage of the system like this. BOLING bested MAGMUS MARTUM, as if it
surprises anyone. I don't know about you, but HALF challenging down 17 points to OF
WOLF & MAN 4's BOLI, is not really worthy of SRETSAMLEUD II. Well, will you look at
this, HALF was defeated by BOLI, and SRETSAMLEUD II will have to explain why they
made such a challenge in the first place. Well now, what do you expect when someone
like MEALTWIST from KELLUMBO'S KIDS challenges down 32 points to fight BRAVE NEW
WORLD of MAIDEN JAPAN? I thought challenges were for warriors, not cowards looking
for easy wins. MEALTWIST subdued BRAVE NEW WORLD, is nothing sacred? I don't know
about you, but CYBELL TROUPE challenging down 20 points to RAPTOR's HESPERORNIS, is
not really worthy of JGW PERISHABLE 1. Well, it only serves justice to see that
CYBELL TROUPE was overcame by HESPERORNIS. Heh, heh. In a brave attempt, JEFFERSON
DAVIS from JGW PERISHABLE 1 challenged up 18 points to fight BOLOL from the OF WOLF &
MAN 4 stable. JEFFERSON DAVIS perhaps got its just desserts, seeing as it was
overcame by BOLOL and ended up with 38 recognition points.
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. The manager of OLD MAN RIVER will
not be pleased to learn that THE NILE, a 3-1-0 fighter, has been killed at the hands
of THE LION'S DEN's CHEETAH. Kudos go out to WRATHCHILD this turn, for revenging
MAIDEN JAPAN's bloodfeud against PHANTOM REGIMENT's warrior ICHABOD CRANE. Well
done. A brave warrior does not carry a red shield, he has nothing to cover or hide
when the fight is over. Consider well.
Remember, blood on the purple robe does not change it from a purple robe. Dare
to fight bravely. Always good to rest in STORMCROWE, but never good to wear out my
