***STORMCROWE SLAUGHTERHOUSE TURN 9 OFFICIAL SCORES***

Apparently HAL enjoyed the last scoring update as a tasty treat! It has been
resubmitted and should post this turn. Following you will find the contest totals
for TURN 9.
Phat Phat and Haunt pull away from the pack and maintain their lead. Kat and
Master Darque jump into second with a not-so-comfortable 1 point lead over the third
place team of Stik and Nomad, which would not have been so if not for the bonus Award
points.
There is little change in the ranks overall. Liam and Owlin continue to climb
through the pack and stand just outside of the top five at the number six position.
Wretch seized the coveted Duelmaster spot, but Team 1 did little to gain on those
ahead of them, winning only 4 scored fights total. Team 6's and Team 12's efforts
were stymied a bit as they matched up with teammates, but Team 6 did have a nice 19
point turn to put them in a tie for seventh.
It is still a close contest with no clear winner in sight. Will Team 7 hold
onto their lead for a third straight turn? With only 4 turns left in the contest,
can any of the teams now out of the top 5 make a run for the top spot? Tune in next
turn and we will see the Fates decree!

                      ***SS3 KILL MASTER COMPETITION TOTALS***

One aspect of the Slaughterhouse 3 that I have failed to post is the Kill Master
category. I figured I would have enough relevant data by at least Turn 10 to make it
an interesting post, and you know what, I was not disappointed. Following are the
Kills and Deaths totals for the SS3 through Turn 9. The Dead List has become quite
large over the last few turns, so I thought it appropriate to begin adding the Kill
Master Standings to the arena report.
Category 1--KILLS is the actual standings of the Kill Master Competition. The
winner of this category receives a *limited* Resurrection potion, as outlined in the
SS3 rules. JE is currently leading, but only has a small lead over Phat Phat who has
padded his total in the last few turns. Rake and Kat are tied for 3rd with 3 kill
respectively.
Category 2--DEATHS is actually a new category since Liam has offered up a RU
Cert to the manager who suffers the most deaths in the contest. I believe he sees it
as an offering to his god Ahringol, but I'm not one to play semantics when there is a
RU Cert on the line.
Category 3--TURN TOTALS is purely informational material. The contest began
slowly with only DA deaths occurring on the first turn, but has picked up steam as it
has moved along. I though the death totals would slow as the contest progressed, but
there have been 15 deaths in the last 3 turns, tying the earlier 3 turn mark of 15
that happened on Turns 264-266.

                                The Portal of Ghosts

The gentleman stroked his gray beard as he looked at the strange, wedge-shaped
stone before him. The craftsmanship was immaculate, and he could think of no other
piece like it. He finally gave a shrug and handed the stone wedge back to his
companion. "Okay, I give up, what is it?" Stik leaned back in his comfortable
chair. All the furniture in his guild office was locally made, but Stik had brought
the chair from Sunset.
Nomad gave a smirk before replying, "I was hoping you would know something about
it. I have told you how I came upon the component and the note that accompanied it."
He was seated before the manager on a wooden stool with his backpack and equipment
resting beside him on the floor. The ranger had come across a highway robbery in the
wilderness of Vant Island, an island in the Trier Sea and home to the city
Stormcrowe. The messenger had been killed in the robbery and the thieves thwarted,
but Nomad then found himself in possession of the strange stone wedge. He could
sense there was much more to the wedge, something arcane, but he was at a loss to its
true value. He had come to Stik's guild house in Stormcrowe immediately after his
discovery.
"Yes, yes, and a strange tale. We may not know anything about the stone, but
let us consider the information that we do have before us. The stone was being
brought discreetly to Stormcrowe," Stik paused to give the situation a little more
thought and swig his warmed ale. With his thoughts a little more clear, Stik added,
"Of the people we know to be involved with this strange little wedge, none of them
are what we would call upstanding citizens."
Nomad could only nod in agreement. The wedge was perplexing. Both could
sense more to the stone than could be gleaned by looking at it, but each was at a
loss. It was like trying to piece together a single puzzle from a box that held
components to multiple puzzles. He could simply approach Master Darque and inquire
about the wedge, but the ranger felt such an action would be too direct and would
reveal much more than he wished to the necromancer.
Stik could see the wheels of his partner's mind turning. "The other
Slaughterhouse contestants," he began, "perhaps one of them could shed some light
upon the subject without showing your hand to the interested parties, namely the Iron
Council and Darque."
Nomad raised an eyebrow at the suggestion. "Who among them could be trusted?
If this item is as valuable as we believe, they will be no better than Darque or the
Iron Council."
The venerable manager laughed, "None of them can be trusted! Yet, we have few
options. If we were in Sunset, our connections would be more plenteous, but we are
here, in Stormcrowe, so we must use what is available to us. The question before us
now is whom do we approach?"
"Two come to mind immediately," the ranger admitted. "Michael Eldritch is a
philosopher and practitioner in matters arcane. There is also Wretch from the Order
of Lost Souls," Nomad's voice took on an acerbic tone as he mentioned the latter.
"The few icons we did recognize on the stone were symbols for gods of death. I
know you do not like the idea, but Wretch may be your best option," he could see the
thought of speaking to lich was appalling to Nomad. "It is also rumored that he and
the half-demon have no love for one another," Stik added, showing Wretch was indeed
the better choice.
Nomad knew his friend was correct and nodded his agreement. "I will go see him,
but I will not be caught in a compromising position." The ranger reached onto Stik's
desk and freed a loose sheet of papyrus and then pulled a piece of charcoal from his
own belt pouch. Placing the stone wedge on the desk, Nomad covered it with the
papyrus and rubbed the charcoal firmly over the stone. The rubbing would be adequate
for seeking information and the ranger felt safer not carrying the stone with him.
Stik nodded to his friend and took the stone and placed it in an unadorned oak
box that set upon his desk. "Since no one knows we possess it, the stone should be
safe here." With that assurance, Nomad gathered his gear and left to seek Wretch's
counsel.
                                     **********
Joseph G. Wellington, or JGW as many called him, looked up from his arena
reports with little more than a raised eyebrow. Others would take great offense at
someone barging into their private office, but JGW was accustomed to dealing the
half-demon Master Darque. He knew the necromancer only sought to surprise him, but
he would not give him the satisfaction. "What pray-tell is the honor of this visit?"
he asked glancing back down at his reports.
Master Darque had entered the office unannounced and flanked by two Lady
Protectors. For some unknown reason, Darque only employed females on his Stormcrowe
guild, so the sight was not unexpected. No one was sure why the half-demon was
gender biased with his squad, but there were whispers all around Stormcrowe about
nefarious plots and underhanded schemes. "I wish to speak with the lich," he
announced. The necromancer's eyes flashed red and he scanned the room, his eyes
stopping at a shadowy corner.
"What business do I have with you demon?" The voice was hollow and moved upon
one's ears like a child's whisper. Wretch emerged from the shadows, and the name fit
the man, if he could be called such. The lich, draped in black robes gave only the
slightest impression he was humanoid. Nothing could be seen but a gnarled hand,
resembling a weathered tree trunk, protruding through the black robes. The hunched
form rested upon a wooden staff and it was difficult to distinguish his hand from the
knotted wood it gripped. Despite the presumed deformities and staff, the lich did
not shamble, but slipped across the floor like a leaf caught in the wind, a leaf with
purpose.
Mother and Lulu shifted uncomfortably at the sight of Wretch, but the Lady
Protectors did not move from Darque's side. Both tightened their grips upon their
short spears, though neither was convinced such mundane tools would serve them in a
fight against the lich.
"I seek information, and you, being what you are, seem my most logical source,"
Darque mused. "I'm willing to pay handsomely for the information." The necromancer
flipped a gold coin in the direction of JGW. He caught the coin as it descended from
its graceful arc. He inspected the coin, a heavy gold crown, one he had seen many
times before in the city of Shadowspire. He set the coin upon his desk, seemingly
uninterested in its value.
Though Wretch's face could not be seen, the sneer was evident to all as he said,
"I have nothing for you here little one. Go back to your infernal pit. You will get
nothing from me!"
Darque looked wounded at the rebuff and the distinct odor of sulfur filled the
room, a sign the half-demon was incensed. "You know why I have come and the Portal
will be mine one way or another. You had best tread lightly!" The necromancer
turned and pushed passed his body guards out the office door. Mother and Lulu backed
out of the room, short spears before them, turning to chase after the necromancer
when they made it through the door.
Catching up with Darque on the street outside the guild house, Mother surprised
everyone with a sudden outburst. "Well that was a big waste of time! Sometimes you
have to approach people and problems with a little more subtlety. Men! You are all
the same, regardless of your species!"
Darque chuckled, "Have you served me so long and learned nothing? Nothing is
every as it appears my dear. Nothing."
                                     **********
Water splashed into Sutter's face and he awoke with a jolt. He struggled to
move, but something was holding him tight. He slowly opened his eyes to see three
men staring at him, one of them holding a dripping bucket. He shook his head to get
rid of the cloudiness. It did little to help and the shaking only intensified his
throbbing headache. "What. . .what? Whe. . .where am I?" He tried to move his arms
and legs again. Sutter finally gave up when he realized he was tied to a chair.
"Easy going there champ, you took a pretty nasty blow to the head," said a
soothing voice. Sutter looked up with squinted eyes to see which of his captors
spoke. He could only assume it was the well-dressed Aruaki standing before him.
"Give it a few minutes and the fog will be gone."
The fog in his mind was beginning to disappear and Sutter slowly began to grasp
his situation. He had been hired to follow the Aruaki that was now before him. At
some point, he had been identified and captured. He prepared himself mentally for
the interrogation that was coming. Sutter did not know anything about his employer,
but the three men before him did not look as if they would take his word on the
matter.
Kat gave the bound man a few minutes to gather his thoughts. He then stood
before Sutter and gave the customary "tell us who hired you" speech. The speech
rarely solicited a response, but Kat felt it was polite to offer a peaceful
alternative to an interrogation. The Werecat turned to his Lord Protectors, Glum and
Xyco, and requested a long list of torture devices, none of which he intended to use.
As the Lord Protectors stifled their amusement at the request and turned to
leave, Kat paused suddenly and sniffed the air. Glum and Xyco knew that someone was
near, inside the abandoned warehouse. Their boss's nose wasn't super sensitive, so
whatever had his attention was close. The Aruaki gestured to his men to take the
prisoner and leave the warehouse. They obeyed without question. Whoever or whatever
their boss recognized, he wanted to face it alone.
The Lord Protectors left quickly and Kat was stood alone in the warehouse. "How
long has it been?" he finally asked. His voice echoed in the empty building.
"Over a year," was the reply. Tripwire materialized about twenty feet in front
of Kat. "You are a hard one to find," the psionicist said. "I last saw you in North
Fork during the last Turf War at the SCOMSS victory celebration."
"Ah, yes!" Kat remembered their last meeting. He did not like being around
Tripwire. The Aruaki was one that survived on secrets and information, neither of
which are safe in the vicinity of a telepath. Kat chose to keep his distance from
Tripwire and others like him. He had ways of defending his mind, but he reasoned it
was better not to tempt the Fates or test the resilience of his mental protections.
"So what brings us face to face now?"
"I have an item, a very rare and powerful item, which has just become available
to me. I'm seeking a buyer," Tripwire informed him. "I will of course sell to the
highest bidder, but I know for a fact that you have an acquaintance that would be
very interested in what I have to sell."
Kat thought for a moment. He knew exactly the item, or rather artifact,
Tripwire wished to sell. Kat also knew that Darque would gladly pay any price for
the missing piece to his magical puzzle. "Why all of this trouble to tell me? Why
did you not approach him directly?"
"Because I do not feel that he can give me the best price for my wares,"
Tripwire mused. "I've done my research too Aruaki. I know what it is that Darque
seeks. I know why he staged this elaborate contest in Stormcrowe. He is searching
for the final piece to his mythical Portal of Ghosts." Tripwire paused before
continuing. "I know all of the legends and myths surrounding the Portal. I also
know the demon is power-hungry enough to use it if he ever gets his hands upon it. I
calculate the price I could get for the wedge to keep it out of the demon's hands
would be far greater than anything he can offer me."
Kat laughed. "So you're coming to me? You are sharpening the wrong sword my
friend. If you are looking for a hero to save, no wait buy, Alastari's freedom, you
have the wrong person. What makes you think I wouldn't buy the wedge and give it
directly to Darque?"
It was now Tripwire's turn to laugh, "And let him rip apart the very fabric of
the universe? You may not be a hero my friend, but you and I are the same, we are
business men. We both know that Darque getting the wedge is not good business. What
good is gold if there is no universe to spend it in?"
"I agree to nothing yet, but it does appear we have some things to discuss," Kat
said. "And one last thing, stay out of my head."
                                     **********
Nomad turned down the long, cobbled street that would take him to JGW's guild
house. The sight before him caught him by surprise, and he scrambled into an
alleyway trying to escape notice. Master Darque stood in front of his intended
destination with two Lady Protectors. The ranger had certainly not expected to see
him here. "This just keeps getting better," Nomad whispered to himself.
Darque appeared to be having a disagreement with one of his escorts. The woman
appeared agitated and all of her ire was directed at the diminutive wizard. Darque
did not respond in kind, but calmly and briefly replied. The necromancer then turned
and headed east, away from Nomad.

                                      SPY REPORT

I can't believe the violence in STORMCROWE! I still haven't told Mom I'm
writing Spyreports. She'd have a cow! Well, here we go... Too bad, NOSTALGIA, but
DARQUE FORCES was just too good to be stopped. I couldn't believe it. Did OLD MAN
RIVER really go up by 12? If only those guys didn't have so may missing teeth...
Gross! I don't wanna hurt anybody's feelings or anything, but SRETSAMLEUD II really
goofed with their 0-3-0. One team deserves special mention 'cause they moved up 3
after going 4-1-1. Keep it up, ARCTIC WASTES! MVP award for AUNTY ENTITY? DARQUE
FORCES' proud of her after beating THE STATISTICIAN and getting 21 points. Talk
about yer big time losers! OPTIMUS PRIME got smashed by JACOB MARLEY, and lost 18
points! Like, THE JANITOR must be pretty gutsy! He challenged the Duelmaster from
ARCTIC WASTES. Does this guy have a death wish or what! This Duelmaster is like
something else! TUNDRA stopped THE JANITOR dead in his tracks! Who was the wiseguy
that said STORMCROWE's Duelmaster was paying for drinks at The Shadow's Fountain?
Don't look at me!
I gotta admit I haven't been in "deep con caves" with any spies. Really, I just
wing this stuff. NOSTALGIA was STORMCROWE's most avoided team. Is there some award
for that? I don't know what THE LION'S DEN's been doing. They certainly haven't
been accepting many fights from NOSTALGIA, that's fer sher. Can NOSTALGIA's VOLTRON
be more popular than me? He was challenged the most, but is that really the same?
MERCED is being unfair. He's challenged down 19 against SHADOWCAT HAMMER. I don't
know why they let this stuff go on. (I'd better shut up) MERCED beat SHADOWCAT
HAMMER. No surprise about that. Really I'm not surprised MERCED would do such a
scummy thing, either. I'm not so sure CHEETAH knew all the facts when he challenged
BOLI of OF WOLF & MAN 4. I saw CHEETAH stumbling and dribbling at The Shadow's
Fountain last week... BOLI killed CHEETAH, and was I surprised (right!). But its a
good thing BOLI could stop laughing long enough to give CHEETAH a good pounding. For
sure, I was holding my breath when I found out GIMLI challenged BEAST HAMMER. After
all, haven't MIDDLE EARTH and MUTANT HAMMERZ had a long standing duel in STORMCROWE?
It wasn't a spectacular fight, or anything, but BEAST HAMMER wants me to write about
it since he won victory over GIMLI. Satisfied?
What does a fighter fight for? I mean, the crowds don't give a hoot if someone
gets killed. Not after four more fights. Pinch me, I must be dreaming!!! WHITE
WOLF returns from the Dark Arena, maybe a "little upset" at his ARCTIC WASTES
teammates... I'm always kinda bummed when a decent warrior gets killed. CHEETAH, of
THE LION'S DEN had a 8-5-3 when he got bumped off by BOLI. It was so gross when BOLI
of OF WOLF & MAN 4 killed CHEETAH. They should start making warriors use safer
weapons, or more shields, or something... Like was that some Bloodfeud, or what?
(BEAST HAMMER vs. GIMLI, that is.) JEFFERSON DAVIS bloodfeuded (is that a word?) HALF
for revenge over some guy's bad fortune. Was it really worth it? ICHABOD CRANE
really fought hard against MAGMUS MARTUM. That'll teach PACIS EX NEX not to go and
kill any of PHANTOM REGIMENT's guys again, huh! Like was that some Bloodfeud, or
what? (JOHNNIE WALKER vs. LEND, that is.) Fight, fight, fight. Is that all you guys
can do?
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I'm getting tired of writing this stuff, so I'm calling it quits. Its been
really albendranius! Later, guys-- Debby Tonte

Reaper -- So true, great last turn. -- Liam the Goth

Olin the Wise -- I have to say this is fun! -- Liam
P.S. Buddy Lee is putting the team together for TW 6, I'll let you know how it well
go.

Master Dargue -- Did Hal eat all your p-ads last turn? -- Liam

Michael Eldritch -- Let you know what is going on with Turf War 6 as soon as I hear
from a friend. We may have two alliances there under one banner for the seven
needed. -- Liam the Goth, Dreadnoughts

Mercy -- I think you worked on your game. My turn to need improvement. Ouch. --
Jacob Marley

T'Kala -- Not just a "ghost ship", a "Phantom Ship." Otherwise they wouldn't let me
in the Regiment. -- Flying Dutchman

The Trooper -- Now be a trooper and hang in there. Thanks for the win. -- Flying
Dutchman

Lynx -- Why do we have so much trouble with Kats? Do you know you're endangered? --
Ichabod

Line -- See the key is that you are not simply a point. As a point you would be hard
to, well, pin-point, and thus hard to hit. But as a line you have two points and all
that connecting stuff, so really it isn't that hard. But, still, it certainly is
errata. -- Prowler

Magmus Martum -- Now you did it. You broke my Bones! The fact that the new guy,
Grateful Dead, is better than Bones makes no difference. Now we must figure out who
to bloodfeud with. Perhaps this will help us finish out those last four contest
turns. -- Nomad and the Phantoms

Shadowcat Hammer -- I had to do it. And I may do it again. Just so you know.
'Cause that's three points! -- Merced

Johnnie Walker -- Sneaky, sneaky. Your timing was most inconvenient, there was
bloodfeuding to be done. We won't soon forget. -- The Amazon

Voltron -- Take that. And THAT!! -- Tigris

Phat and Haunt -- Your lead widens, better watch out... -- Stik

Lorax -- Funny you say that, the Fellowship was my first team in '87-'88 as a
sophomore in High School. I shared the team with two friends, one of whom had
already been running a team for a while. I think he had a three digit acct number.
I have a four digit starting with 3###. Who has the lowest number in Stormcrowe? --
Deep Thought, mgr. Middle Earth

Mutant Hammerz -- Sorry about Bishop Hammer, guess I was a little overzealous with my
+3 Dwarven Thrower (ex D&D geek). -- Gimli

Dice -- Er, uh...bad choice on my part. -- Lorax

121 -- Well, that went downhill fast! -- T'Kala

Ghost of Spy -- You drew first blood, and I'm on a self-destruct course anyway. --
China Syndrome

Bind Satan Dragon -- We REALLY need to quit meeting like this. -- Weak Link

Brave New World -- Matters seem to be going from bad to worse for me. -- Redline

It's awfully quiet considering how many blades are crossing out there. Ah well, TW's
coming up and it is the dog days of Summer. Congrats, Tundra, on the Duelmastery.
Everyone else, keep up the faith! -- Michael Eldritch

17 July 2008
All -- Many of you know me and many more don't, but I will be scarce for a few
months. I am relocating, so look for my presence online! As my will, so mote it
be! -- Abraxis

9 August 2008
All -- We are currently looking for capable manager that will give the Desolate
Empire Alliance a full roster for the Turf War. We currently have four (4) roster
slots that are open to capable managers without questionable morals. If interested
for the Turf War, contact: Lamar Treas-Wilson, Dok Sik, Dok Sik Killas DM 47

                                 *TURF WAR VI RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
                   Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
                   the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
                   will be final.

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                Win Loss Kill Die
Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
*After 2nd win, warrior scores no points for wins

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
Style Master +2
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) wins such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
