Ternas d'Aleen, the Noble Assassin, whispered, backing slowly away from the confrontation between the figure of amber light and Eclipse with his black shadow. He pushed his companion Harbad Kore, the Ambitious Guard, behind him. "They're opposites" he hissed, "light and dark. It could be...disastrous. Explosive!" "Oh, it could NOT," the Guard snapped. "We know Eclipse is one of the Good Guys, right? And I looked up this Lady Protector Stepharoo after you identified her, and she's one of the Good Guys, too. Heck, she's a Fandil! You know, 'health, humility, honor'. So--" "The elemental forces--!" "Oh...bull! It's just two gladiators, why shouldn't they get along?" Kore asked. "Besides," he added cynically, "look at the way she's, uh, put together. Of course he'll be friendly! And if she's been sealed up in amber for a couple of years, she'll be friendly, too. Nothing to worry about." D'Aleen muttered something about the Guard's "cynical delusions" but stopped trying to back through the wall. They both watched as Eclipse came farther into the hall, moving sideways in an effort to shift the way his shadow fell across the golden-shining woman. Another shadow fell across the manor, as dark as Eclipse but more vast. The Guard guessed without looking that the Black Tower had returned. In its darkness, Eclipse shone with a silvery light that seemed to be a reflection from the golden shield of Stepharoo. Both of them turned to peer along the hallway toward the entrance. "It will take us both to combat this darkness," Eclipse said. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 265): INOCHI of YAKUZA (Sensei Jan, mgr.) It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to bring report of the clash and bustle of the weekly ARDIVENT games. JACINTHE caught the eye of many in the gladiatorial commission as she skillfully bested SHIFTYEYED VOLUNTEER and was awarded 14 points in recognition. In one of the week's more notable duels, VECORDIUS put down LORI COLLIN, causing her to lose 4 points of recognition in the process. This time victory fell to the grasp of the usurper. All hail GOLDEN FURY, Duelmaster of ARDIVENT! No confirmation, but my sources claim that the top team has gained their position using magical aids. Charmed weapons perhaps? I have been in deep conclave with my spies who watched all that has recently transpired. Indeed there is much I would report. Vendettas. Bloodied blades and broken spears. Indeed the city has seen more than its fair share of red in recent times. Fate is a fickle mistress. She showers the miserable with fortune but sets enemies against the victorious. Remember this! A thought before I go. Each warrior practices one style, but must not the wise manager learn the secrets of them all? More than a sharp eye must I keep, indeed a stout pair of legs must I keep as well! The endless paths of Alastari await me! Till next we meet remember - the pen is mightier than the sword, but a maul is a different story!-- Zontani Sharp Eyes DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME GOLDEN FURY 3887 9 1 2 108 CYNICAL DELUSIONS (218) CHALLENGER CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME SOLARIS 3759 22 35 0 101 RUBY DRAGONS (336) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME VECORDIUS 3870 13 4 0 86 CYNICAL DELUSIONS (218) BREAK POINT 2741 17 12 0 82 CYNICAL DELUSIONS (218) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME HERMY COLLIN 3878 8 4 1 61 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) LORI COLLIN 3888 6 2 0 57 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME BECKER COLLIN 3850 13 12 1 52 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) -IRONWOLF 274 5 1 0 42 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME DEBRA CONKLIN 3890 3 0 0 22 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) -UG 271 4 2 1 19 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) -KROKUS 272 4 2 0 19 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) -TARAMON 270 3 3 0 18 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) -WEASEL 273 4 2 0 15 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) JACINTHE 3892 1 0 0 14 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn. Your shiny little scimitar was a spectacle to behold by all. My plate armor seemed to hold fast and long enough to out wait your endurance. Til next time. -- Break Point I can't believe that Chardinee character, beating me to a pulp with his fancy riposte techniques. If I could have a rematch, I would. Arghhhh! -- Vecordius Solaris -- You couldn't win the fight to take the title, can you write the column now that you've got it? -- Flint Hills P.S. Yeah, okay, not entirely your fault. Managerial inattention will bring down the best. But you're an orc, so you're not the best, right? Break Point -- Have I said? I really don't care for your style, but I like YOU. I know it isn't your fault your manager stuck you with that style. Hang in there and cock a snook at him! -- Lori Collin Harbad Kore, Ambitious Guard -- What are you doing HERE? You were supposed to be adventuring on the other side of the peninsula. People are COUNTING on you! Get back there! Oh, dear. Another orc. They WILL come to visit when there isn't a LICK of food in the house except for oatmeal! And my mother always told me, do NOT serve oatmeal to visitors. But she ALSO said, don't let them go away hungry. This makes things difficult. -- Hermy Collin What is this with the Beggar dude? He was, like, totally rude! If that's polite, I'm a, uh, something I'm not! -- Debra Conklin, not subsidizing beggars Ed. -- Except when they've been cooked into shoe leather, except that they wouldn't last on gravel then. -- Hermy Collin Who wants a chicken to last on gravel? -- Ed. Vecordius -- Well, that was...very relaxed of you. Really, you should be trying harder out there. What if it had been the Dangerous Criminal, who fully deserves his title, instead of me? -- M. Kingfisher Chardinee P.S. Not that I mind winning. Golden Fury -- Don't tell me you're another of those INGRATES who don't UNDERSTAND that being an Assassin really IS noble, and it isn't easy, either. I and my brothers in the Guild have done valuable work for the kingdom, you know. -- Ternas d'Aleen, Noble Assassin (retired) Becker Collin -- I hope you APPRECIATE this. I had things to do, places to be, and still I got hauled back here to teach you a damned single parry skill! What a waste of my time! -- Harbad Kore, Ambitious Guard P.S. And what's wrong with being ambitious, anyway? Should I be content to spend the REST OF MY LIFE as a mere guard? Hermy Collin -- Why is nobody ever happy to see me at the door? It isn't like I was a WOLF or something. -- Tamos Krik, Visiting Orc Debra Conklin -- You're so stingy! -- Limpy Clean, not feeling polite today 30 December 2005 Just a reminder to all you online type people. It is much appreciated if you send your personals in PLAIN TEXT, rather than HTML or formatted text. HAL, in his infinite wisdom, doesn't DO formatting, which means having to unsnarl your personal ads from bunches of extraneous...stuff. So, if your e-mailer has a plain text option, let it be your friend. -- Ed. P.S. Sometimes it's the formatted text which makes ads go astray. Not often, but sometimes.
