Point:

"We won't be able to stop those Kraelians coming up from the ruins," Old Doc
Circ said. "That's work for an army, backed by magicians."
"Fat lot you know, you old quack," Senator Sedalia responded automatically.
Then he frowned and studied the situation more carefully. "That mob might stop them.
They'll take a lot of casualties doing it, though. Not a good thing, if it can be
avoided."
Circ opened his mouth to snap back, closed it again, stared at the nascent mob,
then back at Sedalia. "You could harness that mob and prevent the worst losses," he
suggested. "Manipulating people is what you do, after all."
It was the senator's turn to contemplate a clever, argumentative response and
think better of it. "Maybe," he admitted. He squared his shoulders, his white linen
suit catching the sunlight like a beacon. "I'll try." He started down the slope.
"And I'll help you any way I can," the old alchemist said, falling into step
beside him. He raised his telescope again and studied the Kraelians, and the party
of four lurching up from the ruins ahead of them. "Bless my alembics! That's
Fandil!"
"What? The Consortium magician from Ardivent?"
"Yes, I'm sure of it. I'd know him anywhere," Doc Circ said. "This is the best
of luck! I was just thinking that we needed him."
"It may be luck," Sedalia growled, puffing and striding faster. "It may be a
disaster. What are the survival chances of anyone caught between two mobs, you old
quack?"
"Better than ours would be," Circ replied. "He's a mage, after all."
"Can't cast a spell on the fly," Sedalia said. "Even I know that! Who's with
him?"
"Nobody I know. A woman...might be that Aruaki manager, Adeolar? I heard she's
a redhead. An Adantri. And a man in armor."
They had nearly reached the back of the forming mob of Pointers. Sedalia
stopped.
Circ ran on a couple of steps and then stopped also, looking back.
"Can't harangue a mob if I'm out of breath," the senator said. He puffed for a
few moments, took a deep breath, and nodded. "Now...." He drew himself up.
"Citizens of Point!" he began.

"We might escape the mob behind us," Adie said breathlessly, "but what about the
mob in front?"
"Can't blast 'em" Fandil panted. "Good guys. Us. Them. Can't turn on 'em."
"If they'll just give us a chance to explain--"
"Ma'am," the gladiator Eclipse said, "that isn't going to happen. That's a mob
up there, and you can't reason with a mob." He hefted his sword and his dark shield.
"We'll probably have to fight them."
     "No," Adie said.
"Not if we can avoid it," Fandil added.
"We have to fight the Kraelians now," Cho said. "They're closing too fast.
Younger legs and lungs."
Eclipse stopped immediately and turned, weapon ready. "For an old codger,
you're doing well," he told the Adantri, grinning. "You up for any kind of spell?"
The old Adantri took a position beside him. "The only quick and easy spells are
usually the most destructive," he said. "But you'll have to keep that shield of
yours away from my line of projection."
Fandil took up a position on the gladiator's other side. "Now we look like
we're leading the mob from Point," he noted. "If Adie can persuade them of that, we
may be okay."
"Let's hear it for fast-talking women! I wish Steph was here, too, though."
Eclipse squinted at the approaching Kraelians. The leading edge was all golems and
golem-ized Aruaki, some of them half-changed to werecat form. Behind that...it was
hard to tell. Probably some of the Kraelian mages. "Even if we don't have to fight
the Pointers, we've still got this lot to deal with."
"Let's deal, then," Fandil said. He shifted his grip on his staff and growled a
word that turned it to lightning.

When Gissanniah saw the four fleeing Krael turn to fight their pursuers, she
heaved a sigh of relief. "Good, now maybe these people can see which side they're
on. But we've still got to get these guys organized...." She looked around,
wondering how one organized a mob. That had not been a part of her training.
Beside her, Stepharoo raised her golden shield over her head. A beam of light,
clean as sunlight, hot as a forge fire, shot from it over the heads of the crowd. "A
rescue!" she shouted. "Point to the rescue!"

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Greetings fellow warriors and managers of Ardivent,

I sit here on the throne after my second consecutive fight versus the good Doctor.
Funny thing is I didn't alter my fighting plans much yet I beat him this time. Guess
it was just my day.

If I live to get my invite I will become the fourth graduate for DeGotti from this
fine arena. The previous graduates were Beast, Dark Mistress, both bashers and then
8-Ball, a PL. I find it strange that first 2 bashers would graduate and then
possibly 2 Plungers.

I must say that there sure are a lot of TP's running rampant in the top 11. My poor
teammate Temptation hasn't been able to fight in a while because the possible match
ups are very bad for her. It's probably best though because she has been recovering
from a hamstring injury; you know how those Lungers like to jump around and all.

Well until next time...
Azgud

                                      SPY REPORT

Greetings, Warriors of ARDIVENT. Allow this humble servant Novgorodny Vir to
give you a respite from the fights in the form of this Spyreport. FANDILS had cause
to celebrate, after EARL got 15 points by beating GLAVER. A certain someone should
cut down on the drinking and practice more, after losing 11 points to EARL.
(Discrete enough, GLAVER?) NOBLE ASSASSIN found out that ARDIVENT isn't a democracy.
You've gotta be the best to be Duelmaster here! Word has it one team in ARDIVENT is
taking speech lessons to try to bore their opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
And how sociable are ARDIVENT's warriors? Come, let us see. Like the noble
eagle soaring amongst the mountaintops, so stand the warriors of CYNICAL DELUSIONS,
alone and unchallenged. Like a pup with its tail between its legs, FANDILS scurried
away from CYNICAL DELUSIONS. Oh, the shame! If challenges were horses, DEBRA
CONKLIN could open up a fast food joint!
Like the wind whispering among the pines, do hearest I many disquieting rumors.
The manager at THE BEARS II must have some new strategy for sending STONE BEAR, a
warrior with 3-1-0, to the Dark Arena. Watch this space! Questions are being raised
about the disposing of severed body parts in the arena. A certain tavern in ARDIVENT
would I avoid!
All good things must come to an end. Keep those sands bloody and the buzzards
fat! Can anything compare to the pleasure of writing Spyreports for ARDIVENT? On
that giddy note I take my leave-- Novgorodny Vir

Mr. DeGotti -- We salute your fine warriors and your managerial talent. Three
challenges (two great ones--yours; one weak one--mine) in which you show us Fandils
how real gladiators win. I cannot remember the last time, if ever, that any single
manager went 3-0 against any Consortium Team. Well done. -- Fandil The Wise and
Humbled

Shteffi -- Just too doggone much spin for me. -- Davy Privette

Azgud -- Just wait until I get you in that dental chair! Better change dentists! --
Dr Steinburger

Eclipse -- Don't despair. Stay with us. We want and need you. Wish you were here.
DeGotti's just killing us. -- WOF

Debra -- Must be my aunt and uncle. They love animals. Me, I live in Fennhaven
(annexed by Tell City) Indiana. (outside Alastari) -- Davy Privette

Azgud -- Perhaps now you are in no rush to see Steinburger go? Great fight, Champ.
-- WOF

Mistress Fandette? She was always a vicious one! -- Fandil The Wise

Davy Privette -- Did you like my backhand? Andre has been wooking on it wit me. --
Shteffi Graaf

Jacinthe -- *grunt* <vicious fore-hand swing> *shriek* -- Serena Williams

Hammer -- Can't touch this...ha ha ha. -- Kim Clijsters

Degotti -- I'm back, I'm back, so don't be falling on yours. The roads in the north
are frost bitten and smitten with snow, high as hills I tell you. Takes time for an
old timer like myself to make my way through all that! I'm here now, but who knows
when the next storm may hit. -- Eclipse

Azgud -- Congrats on taking the Dr out of top spot. Just to let you know, I'm hoping
to try that throne out soon. If you don't mind that is! -- Sparrow-Blaster

Noble Assassin -- What comes around goes around, hope you like dying! How about that
for karma? Knock on wood for myself that is! -- SB

Debra -- Looking good, nice chat we had there on the sands of "lots of time to wait
around." Sorry you missed your appointment, next time just fall down. -- Quar-Ral

Visiting Orc -- Do me a favour visit somewhere else! -- Glaver

Kim Clijsters -- Nice one, so you have some speed and your all fancy. I'm slow and I
hit hard, I'm good for labour and you're not, I have a couple of skills. Don't be
doing that again to me I tell you, or else!! Between me and you, I don't like that
dark arena, so help a gladiator out already. -- Hammer

Dr -- I don't revel much, trust me a few more skills and a well honed blade will make
your career short lived. Break Point was thinking of coming back soon, to throw his
wins in your face. I told him that's not nice, don't be bragging about that, let it
be. Then I told him that the Dr will soon be learning how to stitch himself up soon
enough. -- Sparrow-Blaster

WoF -- Wow a 3-0 turn for my minions and all at your expense. That hasn't happened
in a long time, if ever. I will buy the drinks this round. -- DeGotti

All -- I am truly honored to be recognized with 4 individual awards. There was a
time when I wasn't sure I would ever make it out of the adepts. -- Azgud

Jacinthe -- I think you might need some medical attention. Eggs? Did you take a few
too many hits to your head? -- DeGotti

Ardivent -- Sorry, I missed another turn! Now I'm just being absent minded and
forgetting to send strategies in...I must be getting old (not likely for a young half
elf). -- Adie

Serena Williams -- Your team name is too long to fit the forms! Huh, you can get
away with a LOT while people are distracted over the length of your team name. Oh,
you won't get away with excuses! I SAW you sneaking out of the arena last night
Arenamistress Fandette's sports bra! How ELSE could you have won this fight, after
all? Everyone knows it's magical. -- Jacinthe the really annoyed

Quar-Ral -- That was just, you know, TOTALLY exhausting. -- Debra Conklin
P.S. And annoying.

Hairy Bear -- Shave. You need it. -- Zellit

What is this, anyway? Invasion of the Tourney Zombies? Two mediocre but experienced
warriors fall to two new arrivals each having a single loss and no other fights
showing, you have to wonder. -- Leeta

Gein -- Well, darn. I could see that one of us would have to lose, but why couldn't
it have been YOU? I wasn't ready, I hadn't STUDIED losing. I can't do it well. It
isn't my meter. Let's not repeat that performance, okay? -- Bungo Park
P.S. Hey, I didn't want to whine, but I DID want to win, you know? Sue me.

Ben -- Obviously, you aren't a "gentle Ben" type, are you? Oh, well. Fortunes of
combat. -- Pellozoen

Mary Catherine -- Nothing to be ashamed of, some of the finest ghosts here are
Delarquan, after all. And I figure, what with Ardivent being so close to the
Federation, it isn't that much of a surprise. If fogs and influenza can cross
borders, why not attitudes? -- Ghost of Becker Collin

Earl -- What? Who? -- Jacinthe, not paying attention

Only a quick personal, my friends. On the road again. (Monterrey, MX) The Holidays
are taking their time toll. Running blind. BUT, from Fandils everywhere--Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. -- Fandil The Wise

NEED A TURF WAR ALLIANCE?? Master Beru, Wretch, Reaper, and Xoan have come together
to form an Alliance for the TURF WAR in DM47 with no regards for experience in
competitions or even the game. If you want to enjoy the thrills of the competition,
we have space for up to three more managers. Contact Master Beru at

ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)

As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea. This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005. RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:

* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
* I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena. If circumstances
preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
* I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
* I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
* I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.

The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1. No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2. One team per manager.
3. Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
    this arena.)
4. No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5. Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6. Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI

authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
    warrior is dead).
7. Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.

The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
* Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
are dead. This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
player's warrior to the Dark Arena
* Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
   Arena.

RSI.
The first turn will run in January 2007. This will be a normal speed arena.

I will track Awards in Arena 81, which will be posted on a web site and included
in the following turn's newsletter.

The Honor of Sunset Award:
The first team to reach 10 Team Kills. In the case that there is more than one
team that achieves 10 Team Kills on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most kills. If two or more teams are tied for Team Kills, I will prolong
the contest until one team has the most Kills in the Arena (it does not have to be
one of the teams that first reached 10 Team Kills.)

The Race to Victory Award:
The first team to reach 75 Team Wins. In the case that there is more than one
team that reaches 75 Team wins on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most wins. If two or more teams are tied for Team Wins, I will prolong the
contest until one team has the most wins in the Arena (it does not have to be one of
the teams that first reached 75 Team Wins.)

The Commitment to Change Award:
The first team to reach 125 Team Fights. In the case that there is more than
one team that reaches 125 Team Fights on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
team with the most fights. If two or more teams are tied for Team Fights, I will
prolong the contest until one team has the most fights in the Arena (it does not have
to be one of the teams that first reached 125 Team Fights.) I hope I never give out
this award {figure it out on your own.}

The Team Advancement Award:
The first team to graduate 5 warriors to ADM. In the case that there is more
than 1 team that graduates 5 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
first team to graduate 6 warriors. In the case that there is more than 1 team that
graduates 6 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the first team to
graduate 7 warriors, and so on.

The Iron Throne Award:
The first team to hold the Duelmaster for 10 turns STARTING ON TURN 11.

The Stylemaster Award.
The first team to hold the Stylemaster Award in 7 different styles, STARTING ON
TURN 11. If two teams obtain Stylemaster Awards in 7 styles on the same turn, the
goal will be increased to 8 Styles.

Team Recognition Points: The total recognition points for all warriors in the arena
The Iron Throne Ledger: We will track who has been the Duelmaster every turn in
     Arena history.
Iron Throne Counter: The total number of times a team has been the Duelmaster.
Composite Team Stylemaster awards: The number of times a team has had any of the 10
Stylemasters. Having 2 Stylemasters = 2 points that turn.
Challenge win percentage: How often your warriors win when they challenge.
Challenge Defender rate: How often your warriors win when they WERE challenged.
Team Invitations: Number of warriors graduated to ADM.
Team Graduation Rate: Total team fights/Graduated Warriors.
Team Kill Percentage: Total of team Kills/Team Fights
Team Death Percentage: Total of Team Deaths/Team Fights
Team Revenge Rate: Number of Deaths/BloodFeuds Revenged (Note that the Dark Arena
will be counted as not-revenged.) You only get credit for one successful
BloodFeud per death (though I encourage you to BloodFeud all 4 turns.)
Current Win Streaks: Warriors that have gone the most turns without losing or
     missing a turn.
Team Yahtzee counter: Number of times a team has gone 5-0 in a turn.

Team Dark Arena counter: Number of times each team has used the Dark Arena.
The Most Feared (avoided) Team counter: Number of turns that team was the most
     avoided team.
