DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Ardivent,
HA!! How sneaky am I?! Out of the blue, and WHAMMO!! Smacked Davy down, just as I
planned! Now I gotta figure out how to stay up here and leave this town for the good
life! I've been here forever!
Jhezra Steelblade,
Duelmistress
I love the sound of that!
SPY REPORT
You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to ARDIVENT once again! Biff! Pow! ARDIVENT watched with glee as
BLUVALLEY WARRIORS got knocked off top spot by FANDILS! Some people say I ramble too
much, I don't say anything relevant. I repeat myself. I ramble. Well FANDILS moved
up 1, to 1st. What's with BUNKER? He actually beat INFERNAL LORDS' NIVIX, and
walked away with 19 more points from the fight. Major screwup at WOE TO WHITECHAPEL.
FEAR VECTOR lost 10 points to CROSSEYED MARY. Some new strategies, perhaps? Maybe
FEAR VECTOR will provide more easy wins... Try as he might, KUNG-FU MASTER wasn't
good enough at persuading JHEZRA STEELBLADE to step down from the Duelmaster's
throne... Wouldn't it be nice to have live subjects to practice on? I hear some
team is looking into the uses of convicted prisoners.
If at first you don't succeed, avoid. That'll get you in the Spyreports. How
well I know the feeling of being in the most avoided team! Don't fall out of
practive, TUFT-TASTIC!! The bums at FANDILS couldn't face the challenges from
TUFT-TASTIC!! No excuse for that! What do people see in JUANITA? Hers 14-8-0?
FANDILS ain't talkin', but she's got 81 points. LIBERTINE of WILD OATS knows how to
pick 'em. He challenged JUANITA of FANDILS who is up by 22. Now was this a wise
move? LIBERTINE perhaps got his just desserts, seeing as he lost to JUANITA and
ended up with 60 recognition points.
Warriors of ARDIVENT unite. You have only your games to lose! Here's some
advice: study your opponent, master many skills, fight dirty.
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. All work
and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
Olaffighterwork and no play. Remember--a good fighter needs both good skills and
good luck. Until next time,-- Olaf Modeen

Cadmus -- Thank you for the welcome! We are glad to be in such a prestigious arena!
-- Gerald Bostock (manager, Sons of Tull)
Dead Duck -- Unfortunately my luck ran out this week against Smash Hit! -- Ghost of
Cornick
DeGotti -- Wow, you welcomed me TWICE! Way to make a team feel wanted! -- Gerald
Bostock (manager, Sons of Tull)
Decker Cobb -- It appears you got your revenge against me this week. Well played! --
Barre
M. Chardinee -- That was not at all like pulling hen's teeth. (smirk) -- Dr.
Steinburger
Jhezra Steelblade (and Lady Adie) -- Congratulations on the DM crown. You are a
great warrior. It is easy to see why Davy lost to you. Salute. -- Fandil The Wise
Jhezra -- I tried. You are the best. -- Davy
P.S. I did fight like a sissy boy, didn't I?
Debra -- Again? I am getting to be a bad, bad boy. (wink) -- Earl
Well, well, Nivix. Thanks, Hon. -- Bernice
Libertine -- Surprised you and Cadmus, did I? -- Juanita
Adie -- Nothing like a few cute tufts to inspire an old man's day! (wink) -- WOF
Cadmus -- The boss not only grew up with a basher playmate, but with cousin Davy
Privette, too. He was a waste! (wink) -- The Fandil Scribe
Smash Hit -- You are aptly named! -- Ghost of Cornick
Smash Hit -- Blood will follow blood and the ghost of Cornick demands retribution. --
Gerald Bostock (manager, Sons of Tull)
Tater Tot -- Talk about David versus Goliath. Too bad for you that Goliath won! --
Doane
Born of the Dark -- I am glad to hear you recovered from your wounds and better luck
next time! -- Anderson
Fear Vector -- Well done! Are you my secret admirer? -- Crosseyed Mary
Decker Cobb -- I had you wore down (again?) but you managed to seal the deal this
time. Well done. -- Barre
Davy Privette -- Not smiling and making fun of me anymore, are ya?! <plbbt!!!> --
Jhezra
P.S. One reclaimed tuft for us!
DeGotti -- Special appearances by all those managers! Goodness gracious, that would
be wonderful! Will they actually field a team, or are you just trying to get us
to...how does one say...get hammered? -- Adie
P.S. Maybe I can get Generalissimo Puerco to show up....
Broqus -- I guess that was a good match up. You almost had me; good fight. --
Annette
Cadmus, old friend, in my old age, I have given up on diplos, leaning more
towards the on-line methodology. Yes, it is Wayne. My good friend in adventuring,
Lady Adie is also my brother Kennelworth's (Bulldogs -- DM11) partner in running The
Bulldog Inn in Aruak City. Sometimes The Lady responds to "Steve" for reasons you
can guess. He is a true Andorian.
And, again, welcome back. You were a formidable opponent in the olden days, and
I would expect that and more in the present. All of us Consortiumites enjoy your wit
and personals. Health. Humility. Honor. -- Fandil The Wise
All -- Sorry about the repeat PA's last turn but for some reason HAL didn't want to
confirm I sent them in. -- DeGotti
Cadmus -- Don't know if we ever crossed paths before. I have been around a very long
time so there is a possibility! -- DeGotti
Woe to Whitechapel -- Well done! -- DeGotti
Adie -- Hey, just because myself and WoF are vocal doesn't mean we chat like women at
a hairstylist's! -- DeGotti
All -- Make sure you come down to the Red Sands Brewery and Fine Food after this
week's fights for the 500th Turn Celebration! Watch as Soultaker and Mannequin
perform "Islands in the Stream" in the karaoke contest! It will be a blast! --
DeGotti
Dead Duck -- Hmm, yes, a bit whiff there! Wind sprints and then the showers, that's
my advice. -- Bannir Park
Up from the Sea -- Now, that's a puzzler. I've heard of people "going down to the
sea in ships," but that doesn't seem to fit you. Up from the sea in dredges? --
Caddo Scot
P.S. Yeah, I know, wrong mood, but it's that kind of day. Another time I'll take a
different slant.
Earl -- Listen! You laughed, I could tell. So don't hand me that stuff about NOT
laughing. -- Debra Conklin
Why is it that Visiting Orcs always arrive at mealtime, and always hungry? --
Jacinthe
Barre -- Well, even with this loss, you aren't "Barre none," so you should be okay,
right? -- Decker Cobb
Juanita -- (shuddering) Raw fish? You can have it! -- Debra Conklin
Adie -- I know what I said, I know what habeneros are, and I stand by my
recommendation that she eat huaraches and cucarachas. -- Debra Conklin
Cadmus -- Actually...probably more than three. How many are you active in? --
Leeta/Jorja/Nick
Our congratulations to Dr Steinberger. -- the Bluvalley Warriors
All -- No episode this time. Think of it as the hop-skip thing where you get back
into step. Next time for sure! -- the Scribe, ever the optimist
Juanita -- I don't usually invite foes into my bathtub but, I suppose I could make an
exception. -- Libertine
Bannir Park -- Skills! Please sir, may I have some more? -- Dead Duck
Doane -- Mr. Doane? Yeah, Down here. I couldn't help noticing you have some lint in
your navel. -- Tater Tot
Sons of Tull -- I regret killing Cornick. The broadsword clearly isn't the weapon
for me. I await your will. -- Smash Hit
WOF -- The part of the "great ruse" that got me going was the last: "What's the
point in complaining because the sun rises in the East?" What audacity! Anyone
believing any aspect of the human condition to be as immutable as the sunrise is a
self-indicted buffoon. Further, I have come to believe that, without exception, all
human institutions are nothing more than organized inadequacy. It's just a question
of degree. A far more fitting conclusion would have been, "What's the point in
complaining after common sense and logical argument have failed to persuade?" --
Cadmus
WOF -- I took a count; fully 60% of my aimers have a fist favorite. My second best
aimer, highly blessed, has a fist favorite. Am I excited? No. At the game's lower
levels, the fist is a handicap. At higher levels, it has become a curse upon the
game itself. How many managers with Primus as their goals have yet to wake up to the
fact that every bit of time, effort, and money they have invested into non-fist
aimers has been kicked to the curb? What kind of steward willfully allows so great a
portion of the investments of the people who put bread on her table to be swept into
the proverbial gutter? Still, it's good to know where one stands; a bug in a poorly
play-tested game is more worthy of RSI's respect than all of us. -- Cadmus
Adie -- Ardivent was a favorite, talkative place a decade ago, too. I call upon each
of her three founding fathers currently playing here to take a bow. Still, only
Fandil was present a decade ago so I must concluded that his good time (beware
m'lady) is as infectious as ever. -- Cadmus
Adie -- Thank you for your thoughtful words. Nevertheless, I am retiring. Probably
Cadmus, too. He is livid. Believe it or not, his remarks here have been so
restrained that he's ready to bust a gut. I game him a mushroom and laid him out on
Libertine's bunk. Anyway, thanks again. -- Bob the Knob
20 April 2007
All -- I've been...out of circulation for the last couple of months, and my lists
are not up to date. If you've announced a manager name, a new alliance, or changed
a manager name or alliance since the middle of February, let me know in the ads, via
diplo, or in an e-mail (Sue (at) solberg-mathews (dot) com). For that matter, if
you just want to make sure I've got things right, you can always do the same. -- The
Saint, keeper of lists
