DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
One thing for sure, the quantity of words in MY DM Column will exceed
Libertine's. I wonder why Cadmus does not allow them to write?
I wish I were going to The Face in the Atlanta arena. But WOF says we all must
stay home and "hold the fort" while he is out adventuring with Lady Adie and his
brother, Kennelworth, of Aruak City. (Health. Humility. Honor.)
So I will leave you with the current birth makeups of us Fandils:

Juanita, Duelmistress
Ardivent:
Whoa! What the heck happened there?! One second, Adie is looking at the advance
print newsletter, indicating our team didn't fight (ok, she admits she cut it close
and wasn't sure if our strategies would make it in on time). Then the next thing she
knows, we return from the arena telling her about the great turn we had and hand her
another, DIFFERENT, newsletter. She was totally dumbfounded, that had never happened
before! Suddenly, poor Juanita went from winning and being the DM, to being defeated
by me and now I am the DM! Go figure! That was too fast for me, I don't really want
to be up here! Anyway, I sure hope the actual results of our fights are the quote
'real' results. Who knows what the commission will say for excuses....
Good luck out there.
Tuvold, Duelmaster of
Ardivent, Arena of the Red Sands
SPY REPORT
The sages err'd not in their foretelling of a god descending upon ARDIVENT, for
I, Novgorodny Vir, have returned! Nothing is certain in ARDIVENT, with changing
loyalties, changing Duelmasters. Write this down: new top team--FANDILS. Nothing
works for a team like victory (How's that for a perceptive observation?) as WOE TO
WHITECHAPEL can attest... Say what you will about blind luck and dirty fighting, but
FANDILS will tell you 860-641-27 is nothing to laugh at... SONS OF TULL had cause to
celebrate, after BUNKER got 20 points by beating ANCHORMAN. A certain someone should
cut down on the drinking and practice more, after losing 11 points to BUNKER.
(Discrete enough, ANCHORMAN?) Can you believe it? TUVOLD apparently has better
things to do as ARDIVENT's Duelmaster than show up and fight! In ARDIVENT, nothing
is permanent (except Death), and we find ourselves a new Duelmaster, DAVY PRIVETTE.
Word has it one team in ARDIVENT is taking speech lessons to try to bore their
opponent to death. I'll bet it works.
So much to report, so little time! To quell some nasty rumors, the guys in WOE
TO WHITECHAPEL are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need to avoid 'em. The
warriors of WOE TO WHITECHAPEL found their efforts at combat frustrated as FANDILS
apparently had more important things to do than fight. Everyone is famous for
fifteen minutes, and MIKE MILLER is it right now. Most challenged warrior. Isn't
FANDILS proud! ANNETTE TEVERLY challenged EARL! Who says TUFT-TASTIC! are just a
bunch of wimps! ANNETTE TEVERLY of TUFT-TASTIC! kept hers wits as she was beat by
EARL.
Like the wind whispering among the pines, do hearest I many disquieting rumors.
Ask not for whom the sword slashes; it slashes for thee.
Do not think spyreporting in ARDIVENT is the highlight of my life. Keep those
sands bloody and the buzzards fat! Like a mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I
now bid ARDIVENT farewell-- Novgorodny Vir

Cadmus -- Thank you for the challenge of Libertine to Juanita for the throne.
Juanita had similar challenges to Libertine. She is honored, and lucky, to have won.
Both she and Davy will be challenging you this next turn. Salute. -- Fandil The Wise
What?! Jumped by a Virginal Concubine? She didn't act virginal! Woe is me! -- Earl
Tee Hee. Earl, you dunce! You've been raped by a pro. (wink) Get with it! --
Juanita
Well I sure as heck didn't let the Veteran Mercenary do THAT to me! -- Davy Privette
(a winner compared to Earl)
Debra Conklin -- A tit for a tat. We are even. I will try to stay away. -- Bernice
Anderson -- I was not so sure I could do that. The gods were with me. Salute. --
Mike Miller
DeGotti -- Loved your Soultaker and Baretta note. Are you saying their bark is worse
that their bite? (wink) -- Fandil The Wise
P.S. May your Spanish excursion be filled with fun and romance.
Annette and Lady Adie -- Fandil says that he thinks dodge is "just as good" as
attack. However certain attack types--such as slashing--fare overly well with dodge.
Others like lunge do otherwise. There is a bid interrelationship. -- Juanita The
Learned
A FIRST for The Consortium! Fandil The Wise placed 5 different styles on the
stylemaster list in Ardivent, The Arena Of The Red Sands. (SL, WS, ST, LU, BA) We
are proud. -- The Consortium Elders
Mike Miller -- For some reason, the newsletter scribes seem to think we fought last
turn whereas my turn result shows I fought The Honest Merchant. Not sure what
happened there, unless you are in disguise! -- Anderson
Melon -- I know the newsletter said we didn't fight, but my turn result would seem to
indicate that we did. You lasted quite a long time, although I never doubted the
result. Better luck next time! -- Doane
Azure -- Looks like I need to slow down or work on some cardio. Anyway, you beat me,
or did I beat myself? -- Crosseyed Mary
Messed Up -- You did as you were told and came out the winner. Well done! -- Bunker
Caddo Scot -- Sorry, no tournaments for me yet. You just got a good old fashioned
butt kicking. Heh, I jest! If we fought that same fight five times, you'd walk away
with the majority of victories. I seem to be unlucky in this arena. I'm in just
about every fight right until the end. Then the fates flip a coin and I either win
or lose. My record isn't an accurate indicator of my potential. -- Anderson
Visiting Orc/Mike Miller -- Don't let the door hit you in the @!#$# on the way out.
Don't come back; you can't teach me anything (either of you). -- Bone Mill
Smash Hit -- Ouch...right in the ego.... -- Born Of the Dark
Bannir Park -- The sweet sound of hickory.... -- Fear Vector
Nivix -- Well fought...I think someone paid off the gladiatorial commission. You
clearly won despite what the newsletter said? -- Up From The Sea
P.S. Snide Clemens -- Don't get my hopes up like that....
DA Fodder -- The boss thought it amusing that we should match up. Till he saw his
actual fights.... -- Melon
P.S. The boss seems to think I might become DA Fodder as well....
Doane -- I thought we fought? -- Melon
Juanita -- Good try, but despite my youth, I'm a fast learner. Fast enough to be
faster than you. Good luck next turn. -- Tuvold
P.S. You're cute. I love the tan look and dark hair. I hope you like my light skin
and light hair?! Care for a date? I know, pretty gutsy for a 17 year old eh?
Libertine -- A lucky parry, but it was insufficient! I wish to fight Davy now and
gain back a couple of <looks annoyed to say it> tufts. -- Lothar
Earl -- Not you again! <shivers> I don't like fighting you, you always beat me and
it hurts. But Adie says I can do it, I just have to find the right strategy. --
Annette
Bernice -- Now THAT is how I'm supposed to fight. I don't know what's been wrong
with me the six turns before. You put in a very excellent try though. Good job and
good luck! -- Terrence
Juanita & Earl -- Why are gladiators on Consortium teams such braggarts! Gads! --
Jhezra
Tater Tot -- Golem? What do you mean golem? <nabs the commission description of
himself out of Tater's hand> Damn it! Those dumb commission bureaucrats! They did
it again. I'm a local human male, nuff said. -- Terrence
Debra -- My name is pronounced [loh-thahr] not [loh-thair-ee-oh]. I am an honorable,
trustworthy, upholding, noble man. My word is my bond. -- Lothar
Jacinthe -- I should let WHO order me around like WHAT? -- Tuvold
Lothar -- Talk about hitting someone where they live! -- Libertine
Reaper -- Well played. -- Tater Tot
Born of the Dark -- Not your best idea. Grab Reaper and we'll head down to the pub
for a couple of rounds on me. -- Smash Hit
Bunker -- Is that you Archie? -- Messed Up
Baretta -- I hope the past few years have been kind. If you hang around here, I'll
stay in Aradi. Deal? -- Cadmus
Adie -- Theoretically, you could change WOF into Cousin It? Cool. Thank you for
your gracious invitation but, I do now wish to intrude. If we must keep a tally,
perhaps the loser could do the Lady Godiva thing once a year? If I win, it would be
a major boon to tourism and, if you win, fruit and vegetable vendors could unload
their rotten stock. -- Cadmus
Eoro1 -- Well, that was a surprise! First, that I won, and second, that you survived
my gross inaccuracy. Glad it came out that way. -- Jacinthe
Fear Vector -- Is this like, hmm, well, like fear is was a kind of fever that passes
by contact? I can see that, I guess. Scary thought, though. -- Bannir Park
Crisco -- (recoiling in horror) You're greasy! And it isn't a good fat, either. I
can tell. You should be a Woe team warrior. -- Decker Cobb
P.S. But for a saturated vegetable fat, you're almost appealing. Or, I suppose
these days they're polyunsaturating you or something?
Davy Privette -- I hope somebody hangs you by the tail of your skunk-skin cap. I
really do. -- Debra Conklin
Memnock -- That was infernal behavior, if you want. What business did you have to
come along and defeat me so ignominiously? It makes me feel like a fool. Well, even
more of a fool. -- Caddo Scot
P.S. Actually, good fight. For you.
Bone Mill -- So tell me, do you work for some kind of garden supply place? They're
always telling people to add bone meal to the gardens. I don't know why, it seems
like a Very Bad Idea to encourage plants to eat bones. Who knows what kind of plants
would develop from that? I do NOT want to see another instance of the Kali Flower
and the Stalking Killory. -- Jacinthe
Up from the Sea -- Oh, I dunno. I think a classic Small Arena is one where there's
room on the front page for the spy report and ALL the warrior rankings and some of
the personals (if any are present). Sure, it's a little...intimate here, but it
could be LOTS worse. -- Caddo Scot
DeGotti -- Enjoy yourself. -- the Bluvalley Warriors
Tater Tot -- Ah, but we're all the same height lying down. -- Caddo Scot
Anderson -- It's the humidity. -- Caddo Scot
Adie -- My guess is that for any given arena, all the introductory sentences will be
the same on a given day, but that they'll vary from one fight day to another. Odd
that I never noticed that before. Meaningless now that I have. But one of those
little things that while away the time and thoughts between fights. -- Leeta
9 July 2007
I have not been receiving my physical turns in a reliable manner lately. If there
are diplos with the turns that go missing, they're gone for good. So if you send me
a diplo and do not see an acknowledgement of receipt in the personals, know that I
have not gotten it (yet). If you have email, contact me at Livia AT reality DOT com.
If you don't have email, keep trying with the diplos. We are working on this
problem. -- the Scribe/Jorja/Leeta
P.S. If you email me, put "Re DM" on the subject line.
