Andor:

Herlas glanced at the assassins out of the corner of his eye. The one in silk
had a slight smile; the one who looked like a peasant had no expression at all. Both
were staying close, right on the edge of earshot distance, as in "maybe they can hear
what we say, and maybe not." If he had been Korneth, the Zensovian would have picked
the assassins with the best hearing he could find and had them at just such a
distance. After all, they'd been trained to double as spies in the old days when the
kings of Andoria had protected their guild. Which meant no talking private with
Fireblade during the rest of this parade. And would the assassins keep with them
afterward? If Korneth's trust in him had fallen that far, Herlas figured it might be
time to put his ultimate contingency plan into motion.
He slid his glance toward the redhaired Lady Knight riding beside him. She
raised an eyebrow, then glanced toward the assassins and shook her head slightly.
What, did she think him such a fool that he would talk where he could be overheard?
He reined in annoyance. He'd been a big enough fool over this business already, why
might she not fear he would continue so? Why was it the only interesting women he'd
met could see that he was a fool and a blackguard? It was enough to depress a man.
The parade which had seemed endless looped back to the palace and ended. Lady
Knight Fireblade made another tiny, cryptic gesture and just... rode off! What did
she mean by it? Why did he care? He'd been playing out a lone hand so far, why did
he suddenly yearn for an ally? Herlas shook his head, hoping to shake out strange
notions, glanced at his assassin shadows, and rode toward the lodge on the edge of
the palace grounds where he was currently living.
                    ***** *** ***** *** *****
Crystal Fireblade knocked on his door just after full dark. The front door, and
she knocked openly. Herlas looked past her gray-cloaked form into the rainy
darkness, then nodded. "Did anyone follow you?"
"I think not, though it's difficult to be sure." She shrugged out of the cloak
which had concealed her mail, the hood that had covered her flame-colored hair. "We
must take action of some kind, and soon," she said. "You know that." At his nod,
she went on, "Have you thought what kind of action? The lost king must be replaced,
and this Korneth of Sengir must be eliminated. But who the first, how the second?"
"Alonj of Fratsfa for the first," Herlas said. He indicated two chairs drawn up
to his fire, welcome on this wet night. The Convincians will accept him as a
legitimate ruler, the Fratsfan will accept no one else. The Baron of Ardivent is too
far away, and nobody knows which way the Clanholds of the Aruaki will go these days,
they are too disorganized within themselves."
     "Raltumas?"
"Not of immediate concern. The defection of Aradi has weakened them, and they
were never as coherent as other parts of the League."
"And what of Korneth? He will block any attempt to put Alonj--or anyone other
than himself--on the throne. It is my feeling that he will be hard to dispose of."
"Mine, too. There were those assassins early today, a rather pointed message, I
thought."
"Yes. Where are they now?" Fireblade glanced around as though she expected to
see them in some corner of the room.
Herlas smiled. "Posted in quite likely places, watching intently and seeing...
very little. Bats or whatever moves around at night. If those two are all Korneth
set to watching me, as I hope because he can't have many at his call yet, then we are
safe enough for now. Later... probably not."
Crystal Fireblade frowned. "Should we leave Andor, get to where he can't spy on
us, do you think?"
The magician got up and began pacing, tapping his fingers against each other
behind his back. After several minutes, he said, "No, I don't think so. True, we're
at risk of spying if we remain here, but once we move away from the center of the
action, we would need to find spies ourselves or lose touch with what's going on. My
feeling is that we need to know what is going on here, at least until we've dealt
with Korneth."
"I take your point, but what about Alonj of Fratsfa? Not only do we--or
someone--have to tell him that he must take over governance of the League, he must be
protected. Korneth is surely as able as we are to see that Alonj is the obvious
replacement for the vanished king."
Herlas barked a laugh. "Have you met Alonj's Adantri wife? I have, and I would
not want to be an assassin trying to get past her!"

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
ARDIVENT brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Of course, we're all terribly
impressed to see MEMNOCK win a fight and gain 20 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, MEMNOCK
beat TANK and TANK lost 16 points. You're breakin' my heart. DECEPTIVE DELILA Dark
Arena Challenged DARK CHAMPION for ARDIVENT's Title this turn, and guess what
happened? And if variety is the spice of life, ARDIVENT may be getting bland, as
DECEPTIVE DELILA stays top dog in the city. The Victory Tavern, humph! I've tasted
better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From ARDIVENT's trash
dumps?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
What's the big D? DEATHTONGUE was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And it looks like INFERNAL LORDS avoided them the most
this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph. BIG DAVE DIODE was
challenged more times this turn than the Duelmaster. Now was the DM insulted or
feared? Heh, heh.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. Whoa! I'll even buy DECEPTIVE DELILA a
drink tonight! Anyone who can come back from the Dark Arena, I want to be on hers
good side! Let's see, 9-6-2. Pretty good record for a living warrior. A sad one
though, for a dead one. Such is the case for TWO JACKS of ODDS BODKINS. Tsk. I
can't say as I'm proud to find out that DEATHTONGUE's BIG DAVE DIODE has killed TWO
JACKS from ODDS BODKINS. I can say I wish ODDS BODKINS good luck in their bloodfeud.
It's about time TWO JACKS got beat for picking on warriors like BIG DAVE DIODE.
Bravo, DEATHTONGUE. See you at The Victory Tavern. We're all going to die in the
end, so why worry if the fate catches up with you sooner that later?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Well, I've had enough of this
drivel, and I'm sure you have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. I see
the crowds are getting restless, I must leave now-- Snide Clemens

Congratulations, again, to Deceptive Delila, Duelmaster, and now Lord protector, of
Ardivent. Well deserved, My Lady. -- Fandil The Wise

Oh, my! Sadie is dead? Gone! Visiting Orc killed her! Life in The Arena Of The
Red Sands can be so brutal and so disheartening. One of the few "real warriors" on
this current team, Sadie was a 13-10-7-21-9-9-15 good damage/poor endurance bonused
attack basher. The Gods giveth and the gods taketh away. Shucks! -- WOF

Godzilla -- It was my turn to beat you. Are you getting the picture that we Fandils
love you? (wink) -- Shelley

M. Chardinee -- Thanks for being there for me. -- Bernice

For those interested, Anna Beatrice, Mike Miller's replacement, will probably debut
as a rookie in The Mailer. Depending on what the RUGS send for Sadie, perhaps
someone will debut in the arena sooner. Meanwhile, be very nice to us Fandils who
are hurting with the silly loss of Sadie. -- WOF

The Zen Zone -- 5-0! Wowser! You rule. -- Fandil The Wise

Jondeaux -- Love the name and the inference--The Masticator! -- Fandil The Wise

Health. Humility. Honor. Beware The Red Sands. -- WOF

Two Jacks -- Hmph. -- Big Dope

Jacinthe -- Oooooh, skills. -- Big Dave

Abbol -- Ah, back to the pit wif ya. -- Bum

Mandin -- An exciting match! -- Binkley

Hobnail -- Duuuh? -- Duh

WOF -- Was Sadie too depressed from losing? Visiting Orc? Man, that's gotta hurt.
-- Technogeek

Delila -- Thanks for the Rip skill...I think! -- Memnock

Mandin Lorv -- Superstore? You mean SUPERSTAR! Why thank you! -- Izzco

Mungo Burke -- I won't be trying that again with you any time soon! -- Abbol

Two Jacks -- Bull riding? I think I remember a team named The Bulls! I don't think
they would enjoy anyone riding them though! -- DeGotti

Who is this Mid Earth Guild? Whose numbers are they giving out and to whom? I smell
a conspiracy here! -- DeGotti

All -- Deceptive Delila, PR 7-11(+1)-10-15-11-15(+1)-17 EP LO/MD. She was designed
with the speed raise in mind, and I do believe it was integral in making her what she
became. -- Jondeaux, mgr The Zen Zone,...or maybe Odds Bodkins, the request is in

Big Dope -- Honorably contested...and a mean heads-up for me...and you. -- Two Jacks

Tania Park -- What's this? You got a built in trampoline? Never seen such
resilience. -- B-brand
P.S. Working it up to a good meditative state. Tranquility amongst one's weapons
and surroundings...hhhhaaaaarrrrrmmmmmmm hhhhaaaaarrrrrrrmmmmmmmm.

Memnock -- There's no Nock like a Memnock, live long and whop-ass. -- D.D.,
Duelmistress

Duh -- No duh, Duh! I'm not in this for my health or the notoriety Duh-Dude. Well,
maybe some of the notoriety...brings the chicks. (polish the hoops on my shield, why
sure Sugar) We're out here for fighting and the skills and the fighting and the
experience...at the fighting. -- Hobnail

People whom we fought -- Our typist has a raging headcold and is dripping disgusting
stuff on the keyboard, so we won't be doing serious personals this turn. They were
good fights, and we salute you all. -- the Bluvalley Warriors

                                 *TURF WAR VI RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
                   Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
                   the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
                   will be final.

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                Win Loss Kill Die
Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
*After 2nd win, warrior scores no points for wins

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
Style Master +2
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) wins such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) win such status.
        4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
            War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
            Turf War.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
            without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
            alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each manager who fights in all 10 rounds
AND 45 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied to a living
            warrior from (DM 47)
These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
turns of the end of TW VI.

Moderators:
The Moderators for this event will be Oz and Master Darque. They will arbitrate all
dealings during the course of the contest. Their decisions will be final. All
