In keeping with The Fandil tradition, the purpose of this missive is to explain
the naming of the newest Fandils. Many of you remember some of the "family" names
given to Fandils--Pooty was Uncle Harold's nickname; Junior was Uncle George's
nickname; Squatty Body was the bosses' nickname when he was a catcher in high school
and college; Shelley is his sister; etc. etc.
Anna Beatrice, soon to debut at The Mailer is the bosses' mother's name. She is
often nicknamed "Sis". Just recently debuted was Shanamanda. This name is a little
more interesting than most. When the daughters were younger--like about 20 years
ago, the family visited the cousins then in Rochester, NY. The two daughters living
there were Shannon and Amanda, which the bosses' youngest daughter promptly named
Shanamanda. A new warrior was born many years ago!
As to the other two names of current Fandils, Bernice is an Aunt. (Wife of
Junior/George.) And Tank is another nickname from the bosses' youth when he was a
little more formidable in size.
So there you have it. The Fandils of the Arena Of The Red Sands. Health.
Humility. Honor.
                     The Fandil Publicity Agent

Fratsfa:

Lenpro looked around at the misty vistas of the park, at the two weathered
benches, and then at Lady Fern. "Here?"
Fern sat on one of the benches and looked up at him. "Of course, here. Surely
you didn't expect the wife of Emperor Alonj to come to the Flower Shoppe? The rumors
that would start--! No, no, trust me, this is better."
Lenpro shrugged. She was probably right, but he didn't feel like admitting it
just then. He looked around at what he could see of the park. Lawns, flower beds,
trees and statuary set with equal care. No people on this chilly morning. No place
for eavesdroppers and spies to hide. Okay, it was as safe a place to meet as they
were likely to find. It was also early, and cold, and damp, and the bench was not
the most comfortable he'd ever sat on.
Movement caught his eye. A woman alone--no, not alone. There was an older
woman with her, and two men, but they kept back a little. Chaperon and guards. The
woman was Fratsfan to all appearance, tall, blonde, and regal-looking. Coming toward
them. As she neared, he saw that she had slanted eyes, not in the elven fashion that
some Fratsfans did, but after the Adantri style. And if he needed further
confirmation of her identity, she wore a sword as though she knew what to do with it.
She strode over to the benches, nodded once to Lady Fern, and faced Lenpro, saying
nothing but raising one eyebrow in question.
Lenpro blinked, wondering how to start the discussion. He hadn't expected it to
be this hard, and she wasn't being helpful here. He took a deep breath. "We need
Emperor Alonj to take over as head of the Andorian League," he said.
     "No."
"The king is dead, no heirs, and Alonj is best placed to step into the role."
"No! Alonj has no desire to govern more than he does now, and this is work
enough for any man. Find someone else."
"I truly believe there isn't anyone else who could do the job," Lady Fern said.
"Only Emperor Alonj has the legitimacy to avoid a civil war."
The Empress Kitiara sighed and sat on the other bench. "I know. We can see the
situation as well as you do, I suppose, and we've talked about this. And about
personal choices and public duties."
"Then you can see the need," Lenpro said. "Without a firm and accepted hand on
the reins, the Andorian League will fall apart."
Kitiara looked at him for a moment. "Is this bad?"
Lenpro stared, shocked at the question. This woman was from a highly placed
family in the Empire of Lirith Kai, and she could question the value of a unified
government? "Of course it's bad! Without the League--" He groped for words.
"War between Convincia and the Clanholds?" she suggested. "Raltuman piractical
raids on Ardiventi shipping?"
"War between the Delarquans and the Karnhorns, fought across Andorian lands,"
Lenpro countered. "It's the united strength of the Laague that keeps them from
encroaching."
"I could argue that," she said, "at least about the Delarquans. But I suppose
this isn't the time for it."
Lenpro bit back the argument he'd been about to start and nodded. Later for
that. "You said you'd discussed this with Emperor Alonj. What conclusions did you
come to? What are you--is he--prepared to do?"
"For now, probably about what you want him to do," she said, grimacing. "Take
over central authority in the Andorian lands for the duration of this emergency. And
yes, we know that 'this emergency' is actually a complicated situation with may
different problems running together. And immediately organize responsible people to
start considering ways to resolve the individual problems once things are
stabilized."
"If he remains king of the League, that will solve the--"
"No, it won't. A king over the Andorian League is just a bandage over too many
cracks in the structure. It needs to be FIXED," she said.
     "What cracks?"
"Divisions and distrust between humans, elves, and Aruaki, for a start. The
running sore of the Assassins' Guild. The drain of too many of the best young people
through the arenas into death or the Isle--"
"That one is beyond our fixing," Lady Fern said. "As we've discussed before:
once the Gladiatorial Commission enters a country, it does not leave. Let's focus on
things we CAN change."
"Andor," Lenpro said. "That's where we have to start."

                             Notes from the arena champ.

Well, I must say this is a surprise. I was half expecting Big Dave to lose that
fight, since he's been sucking so hard lately. What can I say, I tried the BF with
my lower ranked guys a couple of times, and they lost. Such is life on the Red
Sands.

I'm challenging Memnock this round, since he's next highest. Good luck all,
Technogeek

                                      SPY REPORT

It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! ODDS BODKINS had cause to celebrate, after BOVETTE got 23 points by
beating BINKLY. Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, BOVETTE was winsome, after
beating BINKLY and seeing him lose 18 points. Like a flirtacious debutante,
ARDIVENT's Duelmaster BIG DAVE DIODE found itself the creature of the hour, being
"invited to dance" 2 times! You could cut the tension with a scimitar as MEMNOCK of
INFERNAL LORDS met the Duelmaster. In ARDIVENT, nothing is permanent (except Death),
and we find ourselves a new Duelmaster, MEMNOCK. So who was the warrior seen
charging into immovable walls and challenging dead trees? Someone's got a basic
problem...
And how sociable are ARDIVENT's warriors? Come, let us see. Perhaps the
warriors of INFERNAL LORDS should take up some hobbies, as they are the most avoided
team... As a woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of FANDILS, so did that
sorry team shy from INFERNAL LORDS
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Oh hard! that to strike a flame, the match itself must needs be wasting!
Do not think spyreporting in ARDIVENT is the highlight of my life. More
important duties call me. ARDIVENT, I leave you now. The Duelmaster has agreed to
foot my bill at The Seaside Manor. 'Til next time-- Novgorodny Vir

purple curtains with the little yellow half-moons and stars?!? Fraid not. --
Bovette

Jennimys Collin -- I meant to do that...it was stra-te-gy. -- Hobnail

Bum -- Gods, you ARE! And nefarious as well, lightfingered when it comes to making
off with wins that shouldn't be yours, all sorts of things. Good fight, what there
was of it. -- Mungo Burke

Shelly -- I have a clear notion that we've done this before. -- Jacinthe
P.S. And what, I wonder, happened to "automatic graduation on achieving fifty
fights"? I've got seventy, I should be out of here! Why, I might be a sandbagger!
Hmm, I wonder if a single nother win would do it? I'll have to see what I can come
up with on this.

Bovette -- You're a cute little bug, for a human. It was a pleasure to demonstrate
those skills for you. -- Madnin Lorv

Hobnail -- Just see to it that you don't put those boots up on the furniture! --
Jennimys Collin

Shanamanda -- Ah, I see that you have a problem with aggression, or maybe I mean
anger management. Whatever, you need to work on taming that. Men don't like women
who get too aggressive. Well, okay, some do, but who wants them? -- Tania Park

Our congratulations to Godzilla. -- Jorja and the Bluvalley Warriors

                                 *TURF WAR VI RULES*
                            Starting Nov 2008 (10 turns)

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, or temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each alliance must:
        1. Announce the alliance and the Captain of the alliance in the North Fork
            (DM 47) newsletter.
        2. Announcements made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.

Captains are responsible for:
        1. Verifying those who wish to participate under the banner of their
            alliance;
        2. Distribution of prizes should their alliance win the Turf War.
        3. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate

Participating managers who are not Captains must:
        1. Submit one (1) RSI Roll-Up Certificate to participate
        2. Announce their intent to compete with manager name, team name, and
alliance they will represent in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter.
Announcement made on the D2 Forums will not be accepted.
               a. No scores will be tabulated until a Gift Certificate is received.
                   No EXCEPTIONS.
               b. Before a manager can compete, he/she must declare themselves in
the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter as stated above AND be verified
by the alliance Captain they will represent.
               c. Only one (1) team per player may compete. No multiple teams or
aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate
disqualification from the Turf War (so be sure to take any
multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance).
               d. Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams that do not properly
declare or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of
the Turf War, and you have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your scoring
will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions must be met before
scoring will begin--declaration, verification, and Gift
                   Certificate received.
               e. No declarations or verifications will be accepted after Turn 5 of
                   the Turf War.
               f. For purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War
and settle any and all disputes as they arise. Their decisions
                   will be final.

Scoring will be as follows for Fights:
                Win Loss Kill Die
Challenge +2 -2 +5 -5
Match Up +1 -1 +1 -5
Bloodfeud +2 -5 +5 -10
Champion x2 x2 x2 x2
Dark Arena* +10 -5 xx xx
*After 2nd win, warrior scores no points for wins

Special Scoring Considerations for the Turf War are as follows:
Spy Report mention (team name only) +2
Style Master +2
Duelmaster +2

Champions:
     1. A Champion may be declared, but one is not mandatory.
     2. Only one Champion allowed per manager at any given time.
     3. Champions that graduate or are killed by another warrior in the arena, but
not the Dark Arena, may be replaced.
     4. Champions must be in the Adepts bracket or lower on the turn they are
declared, and may NOT have gone above Adepts level at any time; this
includes teams transferred into North Fork for the Turf War.

Bloodfeuds:
        1. Bloodfeuds will score points on all four (4) turns.
        2. There is no limit to which warrior may bloodfeud or how often.

Tournament Considerations:
        1. Tournament participation is ALLOWED and encouraged.
        2. Tournament Victors won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 25 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) wins such status.
        3. Tournament Champions won during the course of the contest will gain a one
            (1) time bonus of 50 points. This bonus will apply EACH time a
            warrior(s) win such status.
        4. Points for TVs and TCs will be applied the Turn after RSI posts
tournament results in the North Fork (DM 47) newsletter (i.e., if the
results post on North Fork turn 275, points will be credited on North
Fork turn 276 to the applicable teams).

Special Considerations:
        1. Each alliance begins the Turf War with zero (0) points.
        2. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If
you begin the Turf War with Alliance A, you must end the Turf War with
Alliance A. If you begin the Turf War with Team A, you must end the Turf
            War with Team A.
        3. There will be a maximum of seven (7) teams allowed per alliance for the
            Turf War.
        4. The Dark Arena may be used on the first turn only, of every warrior,
            without penalty.

Prizes:
The Turf War is a "winner take all" contest. All prizes and 100% of the Gift
Certificates will be awarded to the Captain of the winning alliance. It is the
responsibility of the Captain to distribute Gift Certificates. Moderators will
submit a list of each manager on the winning alliance to RSI at the completion of the
contest for the non-Certificate prizes.

The following prizes have been secured from RSI:
        1.  Renaming of the North Fork (DM 47) arena;
        2. Renaming of Dark Arena Monsters (one for each manager in the winning
            alliance);
        3. Known Favorites for one warrior on each team of the winning alliance
(warrior must be ranked Initiate or above, must be alive, and must have
at least one arena fight to receive this award).
        4. +1 Skill bonus potion for each manager on the winning alliance. Bonus
potion must be applied to a living warrior from (DM 47)
        5. +1 Skill bonus potion (one) for each manager who fights in all 10 rounds
AND 45 fights of the Turf War. Bonus potion must be applied to a living
            warrior from (DM 47)
These awards will be listed by the Moderator for claiming from RSI (Lee) within 4
turns of the end of TW VI.
