This was not the most pleasant experience, because Fratsfa was a very old city that had been steeping in magic of many kinds for centuries. The background was a muck of bits and pieces of spells accumulated, pressed together by the addition of more magic on top of it, deformed by that pressure and by age, uniting into compound magical structures that no magician had ever visualized, almost breeding with each other. Fratsfa had the highest incidence of spontaneous magical activity of anyplace other than Chaos-contaminated ground such as the marshy plain near Delarq Tor. And when it was happening without the guidance of even a deranged mind, you didn't need the residual effect of Chaos Magic to twist the results into strange forms. Some parts of the background magic here were alive. Against this background, real, living, practicing magicians moved like thieves in a crowd: sometimes you saw them, sometimes you didn't. Picking out possible allies and enemies wasn't easy. Fandil snorted. If it was easy, they wouldn't need him. He began to sort and filter his impressions, and the first thing he discovered was another magician, also scanning. Younger, though no child. Not a clear signature, male, human, mixed motives. But strong, and even with mixed motives, he might be willing to make himself useful-- A blast of energy like a portculis falling, like a guilotine. Like being hit in the head with an axe, but not, Fandil decided as he picked himself up off the floor, quite as bloody and final. What had happened was clear enough: some magician of considerable power had broken the beginning of contact between Fandil and the young mage before it had a chance to develop. Possibly had killed the young man, which would be unfortunate. The old mage extended his magical sense again, not as easily--even thinking hurt at the moment. The magical background was seething, the Fratsfan magicians had either gone into hiding or were doing the equivalent of standing on their doorsteps shouting at each other. Not helpful. Well, looking back at the brief contact, it was not Fandil's impression that the young man was HERE. Within fifty miles, probably closer, but not right here in the city. North and west. Maybe in... Andor? A hopeful thought, they could use a contact in the capital. He reached out--and came up against a wall of magic. No contact with Andor was possible from here. He would have to go closer physically if he wanted to pursue that connection. Or wait until the arcanum cleared, this kind of barrier took amazing amounts of energy to sustain. But he had a feeling, growing stronger by the moment, that they didn't have the time to wait. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 303): GOLDENEYE of BONDAGE (Spawn, mgr.) I had to be good to combat Issaries and eke out a narrow victory. I am so proud. And, I was promoted to Lord Protector at the same time. There will be reveling in the Fandil clubhouse tonight! I could say a lot of things, but allow me to choose the Fandil tradition of revealing my profile. I am a 15-3-10-15-9-15-17 +2 Init, +2 Attack VL Endurance, Good Damage, Basher. I do not yet know my faves, which Fandil will probably publish later and below. My guesses are High/Low/Quarterstaff and Decise learn. My weapon selection comes from the following usage: 10-68-7 (2 kill) QS 0-15-0 (1 kill) WH 2-21-1 GA 2- 4-0 ML 0- 3-0 MA 1- 2-0 FI I finish with a Masters AT, and Adexes in IN and DC, plus an Expert in RI - unless I learned something more this last battle. I learned 2.01 skills per fight. So there you have it. I have one more fight to go. Even should I die, I shall retire and support Consortium fighters in DM106 Crysalis. Good luck to all. Hugs and Kisses Shelley SPY REPORT Oh, hi. Its just little 'ol Debby Tonte. Thought I'd check out ARDIVENT to see what's new. The guys at THE TASKMASTERS like really pulled together to get a 3-2-0 this turn, moving up by 3. MVP award for MUNGO BURKE? BLUVALLEY WARRIORS' proud of him after beating ABBOL and getting 17 points. Talk about yer major upsets! JENNIMYS COLLIN's match with HUMAKT cost her a loss of 13 points! Was that a tear I saw in BLUE KNIGHT's eye, as he took over Duelmastership? And wasn't SHELLEY fit to be tied! Who was the wiseguy that said ARDIVENT's Duelmaster was paying for drinks at The Seaside Manor? Don't look at me! Look, you guys stick to fighting, all right? DEATHTONGUE was ARDIVENT's most avoided team. Is there some award for that? Is there some deep dark secret why FANDILS' been avoiding DEATHTONGUE so much? Or is it just that they're too scared? Can BLUVALLEY WARRIORS' JACINTHE be more popular than me? She was challenged the most, but is that really the same? Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give it a break? Hey you guys, don't you think your families would like to hear from you? Write! (Or have someone write for you.) I really didn't, you know, study when I was a kid. Who would've guessed I'd be a famous Spyreporter? I'm getting tired of writing this stuff, so I'm calling it quits. Its been really albendranius! THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN Revenge? PERSONAL ADS My, oh, my, Blueface! You return and blow everybody away with a fine record and grab the Duelmastership. THEN, your guys start up beating on the DA Monsters and killing them! I'm AVOIDING! Salute. -- Fandil The Wise DeGotti -- Tank was quite young for the Title, and quite lucky. He is young and lucky like me. (wink) -- WOF Jacinthe -- I don't know what to say. I hope you do graduate, Pal. Soon I hope. BTW, I am glad you and Bernice are back to meeting. Perhaps we will fight for the title this time and you will win and be zoomed into The Big Time? -- Shelley Tania -- Why didn't I learn? I dunno. Some say that there are big parts about me, but one of them ain't WIT. Are they jealous? I was lucky enough to win this time. -- Shanamanda Jacinthe -- Nice meeting you again. I had fun. -- Bernice Issaries -- I was lucky. Good luck great fighter. (and flier!) -- Shelley Izzco -- Is that you and that devious manager of yours taking advantage of age and experience? -- Tank Ms. Cue -- I felt pretty darned good about that turnaround. A salute to you guys. -- Anna Beatrice Merry Christmas to all. May your Holiday Season be filled with friendship, love, peace, and prosperity. -- Fandil The Wise and Consortiumites everywhere Despite Shelley's predictions, her Favorites were: Mace/High/Low/learns Parry. -- WOF Blueface -- Looks like you have the same problem I have with Euroq! Send them to the DA and they come back! I hope OW! learned better then Euroq did! -- DeGotti Big Dope -- Are you responsible for both of Izzco's loses? -- DeGotti Wow! Did you all notice that last turn every fighting style was represented here in Ardivent! I wonder when the last time that happened was? -- DeGotti WoF -- Rascal? Did you really call me a Rascal? -- DeGotti Fandil -- Ah, you needed the shake up of the status quo. Same old win/win gets old. *wink* -- Blueface Hmmm, three warriors learn no skills at all...even though they have the highest wits on my team, and one is matched against the top ranked arena fighter...NOW I remember this game, lol. -- Blueface Techno, Degotti -- Thanks guys. My special surprise for this upcoming turns is to actually remember what challenges and avoids are! :-) -- Blueface I r killur--OW! Big Dope -- Geez, you swing for the fences. -- Blue Knight Shelley -- Well fought and congratulations on your ascension. (Can I have the throne when you're gone?) :-) -- Issaries Slick Cecilia -- That'll learn ya! -- Humkat Mungo Burke -- Fear not, I didn't win the under-performing warrior award for nothing. -- Humakt Bernice -- You'd think that if I have to take the loss, I could get at least ONE skill, wouldn't you? Because it seems a sure thing that you have more skills than I do, or you wouldn't have won. -- Jacinthe Shanamanda -- Fat lot of good it does me to "reconsider this gladiator stuff," I'm in for the full ride: death or graduation. Dare I mention you could make this a little easier on me? -- Tania Park P.S. You've been practicing since last time, haven't you? Abbol -- You're infernally skilled for a golem, but fortunately, I was up for you today. Weird, I figured that with shivering from cold and all, I'd be making more clumsy moves, but I guess not. -- Jennimys Collin Hobnail -- There was no need to SHARPEN those things, dammit. -- Mandin Lorv Wow, I didn't realize the Friendly Constable was that kind of guy! Next time he puts his hand there, it comes off with an axe. -- Mungo Burke Shanamanda -- Well, I should hope so! I don't get mixed up with innocents, you know. -- Mandin Lorv, feeling amazingly virtuous Jondeaux -- I'm not surprised. "Cruising the strip" is not as safe as it looks. -- Jennymis Jondeaux -- No chance of that, it's by way of being a family recipe. But this week my prescription of choice has lots of garlic instead of the chile. Less inflammatory, and it keeps the carriers of winter illnesses at a goodly distance. -- Jorja Our congratulations to Shelley, practically one of our projects. -- Jorja and the Bluvalley Warriors A salute to all who dared the tourney. -- Jorja and the Bluvalley Warriors LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS BIG DOPE devastated JACINTHE in a 1 minute mismatched Challenge fight.
