And told himself, again, that Lenpro could take care of himself and was probably following up some hot tip. That he was not, in fact, his brother's keeper, and Lenpro wouldn't thank him for this dither and fuss. And that he himself had a hot tip to investigate. He pulled the carpet bag shut and buckled the strap. All this dithering was silly, pointless, insulting to his brother, and most of all, not like himself. He shook it off. It was just a mood, and he didn't need it. He picked up his bag and glanced out the window one last time. Odd how noisy a city could be-- By all the gods, that wasn't just city noise, it was a mob! Men with clubs were standing in front of the Flower Shoppe, shaking their fists and shouting! He couldn't make out the words up here under the roof, so turned and plunged down the stairs to find out what was going on. Lady Fern met him at the bottom of the stairs. "Relax, Fandil," she said before he could speak. "This is just a rented mob, and I've dealt with them before. You have important work to do, so go and do it." "But--" "I can handle this." She raised an eyebrow. "Do you doubt me?" The young Fratsfan mage, Elosjon, came from the front room, face white and eyes staring. "They're calling for 'Fandil the Traitor' to be released to them!" he said. The look he turned on the older mage was worried. Fandil cursed mentally but allowed no sign of his annoyance to show in face or voice. "That is just what people would call me who want to stop me. It is only words, Elosjon, not truth." "Did you hear any details?" Fern asked. "Who hired the mob, for instance?" "Hired...?" The young man blinked and looked over his shoulder. "They were hired? But why?" "To make trouble, to stop me finding the magician behind the current disruptions," Fandil said. "It isn't an unusual move for a politician, you know." Could this young man be so naive? Hmm, if he'd been head down over the spell-books since he was old enough to understand them, yes, he probably could be. Was. "We'd better get going." "It's Lord Orboj," Elosjon said. "He's the richest man in Fratsfa. Nobody crosses him--if he names me a traitor, too, I'm through here!" "Well, if the city and your colleagues are so fickle and easily swayed, you might do better elsewhere anyway," Fern said. She snorted. "Orboj--he doesn't come here. I don't cater to his tastes and never will." Fandil opened his eyes wide. Fern catered to many tastes, if Orboj wanted something different, he must be strange indeed, and notably perverse. There had been a lot of coming and going of the Flower Girls while they talked, but Fandil only noticed it now because one stopped. A redhead of statuesque proportions and discretely indiscrete garb. She leaned close to Elosjon, linking an arm through his. "You won't mind going out with ME, in fact, I know you'll like it," she half-whispered. "And no one will notice if old Fandil trails along behind us." She kissed his ear. "I can hardly wait." Lady Fern laughed. "Be good, Ravishing Redbud! This--" "I am ALWAYS good," Redbud answered. Fern laughed again, and Elosjon had turned as red as the woman's hair and seemed incapable of speech or even thought; he allowed her to pull him out the back door and didn't notice Fandil following. "Take care," Fern said as Fandil passed her. "And don't worry about me here, or about Lenpro either. Ours is a family that copes, you know that." She pushed him out and shut the door behind him. * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * }%|[-----+O+-----]|%{ * ---===ANDORIAN REGIONAL NEWS===--- Duelmasters ----------- DM 8 ARKERS (turn 307): CONCUSSION of CONSANGUINEOUS (Mannequin, mgr.) My thanks, Izzco, that seems to have been just what I needed. My assumption at this point is that I'm going into retirement, but who can read the future? Jacinthe P.S. Oh, good heavens! War flail, high/low, slash? What nonsense! If you want to know: 13 12 6 11 15 17 10. SPY REPORT Like the magnificent Sun, rising upon the Dawn and exiling the Night for a Day, I, Novgorodny Vir, return once again! Practice pays for ABBOL, who pummelled JENNIMYS COLLIN, to pocket 12 points. Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, ABBOL was winsome, after beating JENNIMYS COLLIN and seeing her lose 12 points. The arena was more crowded than usual this time, as IZZCO faced ARDIVENT's Duelmaster. Now I can't insult IZZCO, as it has gloriously dueled to the top. Oh great new Duelmaster!!! (Stop me if I lay it on too thick) Word has it one team in ARDIVENT is using psychics to predict wins. They lead a charmed life! My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter. But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! Like a horde of jackals fleeing from the lion, so did the "warriors" in ARDIVENT avoid DEATHTONGUE. As a woman of good breeding scorns the "warriors" of INFERNAL LORDS, so did that sorry team shy from DEATHTONGUE The moving sword slashes, and having slashed, moves on... Ask not a spymaster for counsel, for he will pontificate long after you have fallen into an unconscious stupor. Leave me now, you base fools! As the seasons change, and the creatures of the wild change also, so do I feel a yearning to leave this place. Like a mixed metaphor, and an overtaxed simile, I now bid ARDIVENT farewell-- Novgorodny Vir DUELMASTER W L K POINTS TEAM NAME BUM 4094 13 9 1 102 DEATHTONGUE (89) CHAMPIONS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME TEMPTATION 3314 12 10 1 78 INFERNAL LORDS (8) -EUROQ 3901 10 10 2 72 INFERNAL LORDS (8) CHALLENGER ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -ANNA BEATRICE 4124 5 1 0 64 FANDILS (75) ABBOL 4080 12 16 0 61 INFERNAL LORDS (8) TANIA PARK 4117 12 7 0 58 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) ADEPTS W L K POINTS TEAM NAME BINKLY 4115 11 8 0 55 DEATHTONGUE (89) MUNGO BURKE 4097 11 12 0 54 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) -IRONWOLF 274 5 1 0 42 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) JENNIMYS COLLIN 4114 9 11 0 41 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) SNORKY 4134 6 6 1 40 DEATHTONGUE (89) NOVE 4139 7 3 0 38 INFERNAL LORDS (8) CHALLENGER INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME UNCLE BOB 4143 3 4 1 26 FANDILS (75) ALF MUSHPIE 4151 2 2 0 26 DEATHTONGUE (89) INITIATES W L K POINTS TEAM NAME -UG 271 4 2 1 19 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) -KROKUS 272 4 2 0 19 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) -TARAMON 270 3 3 0 18 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) BETTY 4149 2 3 0 18 DEATHTONGUE (89) BINGO LITTLE 4148 3 3 0 17 BLUVALLEY WARRIORS (74) -WEASEL 273 4 2 0 15 BARBARIAN HORDE (47) SIS 4153 1 1 0 5 FANDILS (75) '-' denotes a warrior who did not fight this turn. THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN Revenge? PERSONAL ADS Congratulations to newly ordained Lord Protectors Izzco and Jacinthe. Well deserved! You will make a great pair heading off to The Isle. -- Fandil The Wise P.S. Izzco, how kind of you to give her the 14th so she could graduate also. What a gentleman! A salute to the mighty Duelmistress--Jacinthe! -- WOF Ah to be young again. We shall see what the inexperienced mage, Elosjon, can do. To the quest.... Health. Humility. Honor. -- Fandil The Wise Mungo Burke -- You again? I do not seem to "have it" against you. You must be my daddy? -- Uncle Bob Polite Beggar -- Thank you for being so nice. -- Sis We really enjoyed your DM Columns, Izzco. Keep up the good work in The Big Time. -- Fandil The Wise DeGotti -- An event to attract attention to The Red sands? Hmmmmm. You youngsters just might be good for something yet. Good idea! Let's do it! I would be glad to assist. -- WOF All -- Pardon the delay and amount of Fandil warriors on the sands. We have two Rookies starting in The Mailer and Anna Beatrice is entering the Inits at 10FE. Soon The Red Sands will be filled with Fandils. (That read rather bloody, didn't it?) -- Fandil The Wise You all are so rude! I lose the throne and my team is the biggest losers! -- DeGotti I figured I'd be doing this from a DM column, but hey crap happens: Here is the design that is Izzco, I am only going to give his numbers and fav weapon just in case I decide to run him some time; 15-17-9-13-7-6-17 SS. I would really like to thank Mannequin for his help on the design and suggestions on how to run a Ripper. This is style 9 out of 10 for me overall. The last style is the damnable PS! -- DeGotti Fandil -- Sometimes you just have to cut them loose! Shanamanda went out as a winner! Which is more then Abbol is at the moment! -- DeGotti Fandil -- You should know better! I will always write a DM column as long as I am able to! -- DeGotti Temptation -- You're so sneaky! I always surrender to temptation, because it so often involves chocolate. Er, do YOU have any chocolate for me? -- Jennimys Collin Alf Mushpie -- You Rirorni sure have strange names! -- Tania Park Uncle Bob -- You could probably killed by a moderately aggressive houseplant. -- Mungo Burke Betty -- Listen, old bean, I didn't mean to hit you with that muffin, I was just thinking of passing it and someone made a remark that startled me so my hand jerked and, well, you see the result. Not that being hit by a muffin is bad, but I'm afraid it did have rather a lot of butter on it. Healthy stuff, butter, good for the complection, I hear. Please don't cry. -- Bingo Little P.S. I don't want to hear about how when a rabbit sneezes a fairy is born, or any of that stuff. It makes me queasy. Oh, no! Shanamanda is leaving us? Who will I talk to about hair styles? -- Tania Park Betty -- I wouldn't dream of it! That kind of thing leads to trouble. -- Bingo Little DeGotti -- I agree that more managers would be good but, honestly, I don't think a contest would do more than cause a short-term surge. Contest managers just don't care about the arena and they don't stay. Not to mention that contests bring in such a low crowd! -- Jorja P.S. As an example of how contests don't help in the long run, look at Aradi. P.P.S. Yes, I know, this doesn't help. I do have some ideas, for what they're worth, my own and those that other players have mentioned to me now and then, and if you would like to contact me directly, Fandil has the address of my lightning-pigeon, we might discuss things and put together a proposal for the Commission. Our congratulations to Izzco. -- Jorja and the Bluvalley Warriors LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS IZZCO bested JACINTHE in a 2 minute master's Challenge fight.
