DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Usually the Duelmaster takes this time and column to brag or one-up or
castigate, or thank. But, in the spirit of the holiday season, emotional Fandil The
Wise is helping me write this and he wants to give tribute to those for whom we five
current Fandils are named.
Uncle Junior (ME!) -- represents George J. Miller, the eldest brother of The
Consortium's mother. George, nicknamed Junior as he was a George Jr. to Grandpa
Miller. Junior's son, Mike, was best friend and cousin to the boss.
Snuffy -- Earl W. Smith was nicknamed Snuffy by his fellow truckdrivers. For 30
years, The Consortium's dad drove over-the-road trucks for Cannelton Sewer Pipe,
later Cantex. He was a non-drinking, non-cursing, non-smoking good guy, who, as his
alter-ego, was a union organizer for The Teamsters.
Irvin -- one of the two current inside household cats for Mr. And Mrs.
Consortium. (Beatrice is the other.) Irvin is named after Mrs. Consortium's father
-- Caspar Irvin. (Beatrice is named after Mr.Consortium's mother -- Anna Beatrice.)
Irvin is a big (16.5 pound) gray tabby, who can jump and swirv with the best of them.
Clara Rose is grandchild number two for The Consortium. She and Max (number
one) are the apples of grandpa's eye. Clara is named after two Consortium family
members -- Grandma Clara (Consortium's grandma on his dad's side) and Sharon Rose.
(Mrs. Consortium's birth name was Sharon Rose Hagedorn.)
Shelley Ann, who just graduated to ADM, is The Consortium's little sister. He
has a sister six years younger and a brother, Mark, sixteen years younger. Shelley
Ann is a wonderful woman who has worked 30 years at Lincoln Hills Nursing Home, where
The Consortium's mother resides in a room right across from Shelley's office.

Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport.
I doubt ARDIVENT will ever be the same. AZURE CLOUDS stable has parlayed this turn's
4-1-0 into a 3 space move up the rankings. This brings them up to 2nd place. Good
work, guys! And let's see, KURT COBAIN fought JOUBERT KLEE and gained 25 points and
contributed to THE 27 CLUB's 2-3-0. JOUBERT KLEE has lost to KURT COBAIN, falling 22
points, while helping make BLUVALLEY WARRIORS a 1-4-0 turn. Defending his title for
another turn, UNCLE JUNIOR kept THE 27 CLUB's warrior, ANTI-LEAP YEAR, from claiming
the throne. By the way, was that our Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped under
the table at The Seaside Manor?
I tell you, a green quarterstaff lasts longer than a seasoned sapling. A basher
friend of mine assures me this is true. THE 27 CLUB has cause to stand tall, as they
were ARDIVENT's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat.
And guess who avoided THE 27 CLUB stable the most? Believe it or not, it was
FANDILS. Anyone surprised? Well, sports fans, take notice that WHAT WATER? from
BASH BROS. WAITRESS was ARDIVENT's most challenged warrior this turn. SNUFFY from
FANDILS took a risk this turn by bravely challenging up 26 points in a challenge
against WHAT WATER?. And now nobody knows where WHAT WATER? is right now, after
giving SNUFFY 19 points worth of recognition. As quiet chuckles rise behind me.
BLUE NOTE of AZURE CLOUDS had better have a good reason for challenging down 9 points
in a challenge which she won. I thought BLUE NOTE showed great skill and promise
when she won victory over TRIA SKATHACH. All right, so I slept through it! Big
deal!
The Dark Arena is for those who cannot win, not who cannot lose with grace.
Dignity in life or death is the warrior's creed. We'd like to remind certain teams
not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's considered
rude.
