Notes from the arena champ.
How about that. I added one final title before leaving for graduation. In
title fights, I have beaten Arlene Ross (AB) twice and Tria Skatthatch (WS) once.
Arlene, in a DM bout, was the only warrior to beat me in arena action. I hate her
for it, but I praise her for it.
So my final column will be all about me. (Not included are the results of the
recent mailer, and this last fight with Tria--hence no faves. Check the RSI site for
Consortium #975 if you are interested in the exact details.)

this last fight are finalized. I will not believe it if either the SC or BS is my
favorite weapon. I won't.

SPY REPORT
It is I, Novgorodny Vir, Spymaster of Spymasters. Look on my work, ye mighty,
and despair! Practice pays for JANIS JOBLIN, who pummelled HEREFORD JONES, to pocket
25 points. Win some, lose some. Speaking of which, LUIZA KLU was winsome, after
beating BLIND OWL and seeing him lose 9 points. Duelmaster LEROY from FANDILS is
going for the gold, as he Dark Arena Challenged DARK ARENA's BLACK ORC. Ooh, the
excitement! BLACK ORC found out that ARDIVENT isn't a democracy. You've gotta be
the best to be Duelmaster here! So who's the team that's been walking into taverns
last week and ordering milk? Sounds like a PR stunt to me.
My mother wished me to avoid conflict, and seek the gentle trade of Spyreporter.
But warriors aren't supposed to avoid fights! To quell some nasty rumors, the guys
in BLUVALLEY WARRIORS are not carrying any incurable diseases. No need to avoid 'em.
Like a pup with its tail between its legs, FANDILS scurried away from BLUVALLEY
WARRIORS. Oh, the shame!
Is there life after death? Pragmatics (and warriors) know there is death after
life! Those who owe LEROY of FANDILS money and had written him off, take note: he'S
BACK FROM THE DARK ARENA!!! AND he'S MAD!!! Oh hard! that to strike a flame, the
match itself must needs be wasting!
All good things must come to an end. As the seasons change, and the creatures
of the wild change also, so do I feel a yearning to leave this place. Do not

There was a line outside the Gladiatorial Commission's registry office. There
often was, but surely not now? Alarond the Scribe, who had drawn office duty today,
frowned at them.
A stocky, fit, moderately handsome gladiator stepped up to the counter. "I want a
name-change," he said. "How can I do my best known as," he shuddered, "'Dangling
Eyeball'? My name is Joe, and I want to use it."
A small and very shapely woman stepped up beside him. "And I am really tired of
being known as 'DA Bait'." She smiled, causing Alarond to sway where he stood. "I'd
like to be known as... Aphrodite, I think."
The others crowded forward, each advancing a claim, the babble of voice rising to
a roar, the crowd beginning to look like a mob--and every member of it armed and
dangerous.
Alarond raised his hands to quiet them, without much success. He raised his
voice, too. "We'll do it! A Name-Change-O-Rama, as soon as we can get the paperwork
lined up! Two or three months, maybe--"
The gladiators howled in protest at the delay.
"No, listen! The files here are HUGE, it will take time to get everything
straight. You've got to be patient. It WILL happen!"
