                                      SPY REPORT

Well, what are you looking at, ARDIVENT? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, WRATHMEN, since THE
SOVEREIGN took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Gee, I'm
impressed, a 4-1-1 is nice, but don't get cocky, WE GOT GAME, the Fates teach
humility, and the Fates are proud. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see
ALEKHINE win a fight and gain 20 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, NIMZOVICH beat HEREFORD
JONES and HEREFORD JONES lost 7 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's out with
the old, in with the new, as CAPABLANCA takes the Title and last week's bar tab from
the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else
do you think some of these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. YOU DON'T SAY!, I suppose you'll be glad to know you
were this turn's most avoided team. Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And
it looks like WE GOT GAME avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be
losers, if you ask me. Hmph. BROOKE JONES was challenged more times this turn than
the Duelmaster. Now was the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh. Now look at this.
DEE DAA challenged down 17 against BLUVALLEY WARRIORS' BROOKE JONES. What a weasel!
And sorry to say, DEE DAA bested BROOKE JONES, leaving a bad feeling with the crowd.
I think exploitive snob is the term I'm looking for.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Nipped in the bud, you might say, was JODI of FANDILS
this turn. Course, I wouldn't say that, so much as have a belly laugh. Heh heh.
Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use. Certain nameless
cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
What does the ARDIVENT arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Well, I've had enough of this
drivel, and I'm sure you have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. I see
the crowds are getting restless, I must leave now-- Snide Clemens

Well, okay, Tynarae, I guess that is one way to win a title. In a random match, you
surely beat poor old lumbering Casper John. Sadly, though, did you have to kill him?
In his own mind he was a godling, but now he is mere dust and ashes in The Red Sands.
R.I.P. Casper John, a 11-13-12-17-10-7 mode striker. And a salute to the Duelmaster.
-- Fandil The Wise

Uh, Chessmaster, that was one slick way to avoid winning (or losing) against those
Wrathmen. Not fighting at all. Slick! If you need any help with those Black Tower
goons, let me know. I may be old, but my magic grows ever stronger. -- Fandil The
Wise
P.S. Loved the spotlight/column.

Rocksock Jones -- You may rock, but I can sock. -- Uncle Leroy

The Sovereign -- I apologize deeply for the death of Lady Annabelle. I wish she had
not challenged me. The Re Sands have taken yet another and for that I am sad. Mea
Culpa. -- Jodi

Scorpio -- Yes, Kennelworth in Aruak City is my younger brother. As you alluded, so
are Lenpro in Iaye, and Curator in Arkers. Curator is the youngest, Lenpro the
smartest, Kennelworth the entrepreneur, and I am the eldest, meanest, and only
wizard. As to Assur, who's Assur? (wink) -- WOF (passing the fifth to Scorpio for a
swig)

Health. Humility. Honor. The Red Sans await us all. -- Wise Old Fandil

Assassinations. I knew it. Sooner or later any Andorian arena is swept with
assassinations. And they even call them "noble," like it was noble to kill people
for money. What a crock. -- Rocksock Jones
P.S. Two-three for us, courtesy of a couple of Cult Members.
P.P.S. Is it still the Cult of the Red Silka, or is there a new one in town?

You need not make us sound like some... restaurant. Of course it is us! --
Arahol D'Curri, of the Cult of Red Silka

Jodi -- Well, it appears you beat the *Whoopee* out of me, so I'll have to take a
rain check on us lagdies targeting the menfolk of this areana. -- Ghost of Lady
Annabelle waving to everyone and bidding a farewell in Ardivent*

Take care dear Annabelle -- May the gods comfort you in that Shewish heaven in the
sky. I drink to you this night! Hear! Hear! -- Scorpio *holding up a glass of
bourbon in salute*

Fandil -- Yes, 'tis I, Lord Scorpio, very nice to make your aquaintence, even though
your lady Jodi took out my Lady Annabelle. -- Scorpio *nodding just slightly*

How's everyone doing on this calm Spring night? -- Scorpio *sending a greeting to his
patrons of Ardivent*

Zeb Karan around the big table. Arena staff of all ranks and titles sat and
stared at each other: arenamasters, standbys, Dark Arena warriors, stewards and
infirmarians, even the maintenance crew. This was not the first time they'd met like
this, and it probably wouldn't be the last.
"So this is it again, is it?" Lew Voth asked. "Less than seven years since they
closed Dwes Eg to new teams, and now they're closing Blackstone?"
"Only to new teams," one of the spymasters pointed out. "And it's necessary.
There are several file rooms we haven't been able to enter in months because they're
too full of team records."
"Nothing you couldn't fix with a lighted match," Jame Rinvar suggested.
Technically he should not have been there, since he'd taken over full time as the
arenamaster of Shadowspire. But no one wanted to tell him to leave.
"We may NEED those records one of these days," Chief Steward Hesselrod protested.
"We can't burn RECORDS."
     "I could," Rinvar said.
"But you won't." Voth pinned him with a stare. "Don't stir up trouble for its
own sake, Jame."
Rinvar raised his hand in a gesture of surrender. "I'll be good, Lew."
"When are they shutting down Blackstone?"
"To new teams only, remember--the old ones will keep fighting if their managers
want to pay the fees. This week. Maybe next week. Hard to be sure, when you travel
from Alastari to anywhere else, there's a time distortion effect. But probably this
week. Same operating rules as Dwes Eg (82): no new teams in, but the old ones can
recruit new members. New teams will go to the new place--" Zeb Karan cast a look of
enquiry around the room.
     "Jasper Gulch," a steward said.
"Right. New teams will go to Jasper Gulch. I'm not sure the day for it, probably
'opposite' Blackstone in the schedule. A regular two-week cycle. Teams can be
transfered in from regular arenas, I suppose, but not OUT."
Voth nodded. "We can work with this."
     "Beats not working."
