Dropshot
Dropshot sat wrapped in the void meditating, the steady pulse of the Godsource at
the edge of awareness, it was a labor of will not to reach and embrace it. To feel
the power of it flow through him, making him feel more alive than at any other time.
Lord High Commander Azraelus said that this was a thing that must be avoided as many
who had allowed that desire to control them had been lost to the Sickness, an
addiction to the Power that would eventual cause you to draw more than you could
safely handle and either die or Sever themselves from the Power. He would rather die
than be Severed. He shook his head, meditation was for focusing on the tasks that
needed to be took care of. Not musing.
Tomorrow was the next cycle of arena fights. Lord Azraelus put Val'malkites, or
Novices of the Power, who were under him for training, to fight in the arena for
learning hand to hand combat and melee combat. He hated it. Why should those gifted
with the ability to Channel have to learn to fight physically? Oh well, he was only
a few weeks from being able to take the Trials and then he would be a full-fledged
Val'Atani, Men of the Power. No more being under the control of Azraelus. He
grabbed his spear and began the Forms he had been taught. Just a few more weeks.

Heathen's Cafe
Well, I've received a favorable response to the Cafe from a bunch of you.
Though it has been via diplos, the objective is sharing info in the arena and I
appreciate those of you who support this idea! I'm disappointed that none of the
veterans have spoken up as yet -- come on Crip, Oz, Hammer, Kat, Blackstorm, Snarky,
Coffee, Slugbait, yes even you Street Legal, share some of your knowledge with us
newbies!
To address Baphomet's question, I've always subscribed to the theory that using a
tactic shifts the skills, depending upono the ability of the warrior to use it.
Examples:

The above is an example of a waste using the parry tactic, hypothetically
starting with 10 skills in teach area. From this can be seen that if a tactic is
unsuitable (if this were a lunger or slasher using parry) then there is a negative of
double to the other areas and this doesn't even guarantee a bonus to the skill area
determining the tactic. Use of a suitable tactic (i.e. possible favorite) will give
a bonus at the expense of other arenas, but not a drastic one, while use of one's
favorite gives the bonus with no negative to other areas, with the possible addition
of extra skills in a similar way as a warrior is blessed 1 to 4 skill. This is a
small example of my theory on tactic use.
What do the rest of you think? Am I on to something or just off my rocker? A
little input would be great!

ABRAXIS awoke with a horrible pounding in his head. There was nothing worse
than a wormwood hangover. As he reached for the powdered yew bark (Druid Hangover
cure) he began to sort the images rushing through his brain. Since absinthe caused
visions, it could be hard to distinguish fantasy from reality. When all came clear
he realized that he had for some reason called Bapohmet Buffy instead of Baffy. Boy,
was the wizard probably more than a little upset.
This morning ABRAXIS had a task for the probate Lasher. Lasher had done quite
well in the arena on turn 225. So now he would be given a very important task. Four
of his witches would be used to open a planar gate, so taht we would have a denizen
of another plane at our beck and call. Then ABRAXIS heard Lasher's voice, good they
were here.
As ABRAXIS entered the ritual chamber he saw that the four witches were indeed
there with Lasher. There was Suzanne in her red robe, Varlotta in her blue one;
Stella was wearing green andRowan was in white. The four entered the circle with
Suzanne at the south, Carlotta, the east, Stella at the north, and Rowan at the west.
They began to chant in unison.
"Darksome night and shining moon
East then south then west then north
Hearken to the witches rune
Here I come to call you forth!"
"Earth and water, air and fire,
Wand and Pantacle and sword:
Make my will your desire,
Hearken ye unto my word!"
"Cord and censor, scourge and knife,
Powers of the witches' blade.

As the last sounds reverberated throughout the chamber a vortex opened and spit
out a blue 10 inch tall imp. ABRAXIS laughed gleefully as the imp took its place on
his shoulder.

Suicide slammed the door to their room in the Lizard Tail's Inn. "You morons, I
got total squat from you!"
The team of Code Red all froze where they were.
"I will not tolerate that kind of filth!"
The warriors did not speak nor took their eyes from the cloaked figure as smoke
writhed from under the hood.
"Curse be the one who thinks I liked what I saw. Hell after the third fight I
went to another parlor 'cause I was outraged beyond belief!"
A spit of fire from the hood landed a couple feet from Deadly.
"Um, we will leave now and go practice," Killer said.
"Go, get out of my sight!"
The warriors scrambled out without looking back.

Couple of clarifications and some questions I need to ask about. so, before
giving you the scores for Round One (T225), here goes:
A. If you're reading this from the packet RSI sends you, then you'll notice a diplo
from me. This is a "play by play" report on what your team did and scored. I also
listed the score for each fight, and provided a description of what caused/created
that score. I will attempt, Lord Willing, to do this each and every turn. If you're
reading this online, then know you have a report on the way for each team. If you
want to receive this quicker, then you'll have to write me and send an address.
B. Hammer asked when the bonuses/penalties for screwing up were gonna be applied.
Naturally, I've made some blunders...I'm man/beast enough to admit that. However...I
want everyone to understand that the application of these are at *MY* discretion. If
you're decent and ask for a clarification...I'll provide it willingly. If you act
like a jerk...then you can expect to get nailed for it. It's pretty much a matter of
mutual respect.
C. Kat, you verified Fizban's team as "Indulgent Drinks." He claimed and was
verified under Manegerial Mayhem. I'm taking it that you made a mistake in your
clarification (I seem to remember Indulgent Drinks being in a different slow-arena of
Delarquan nature...39? or 54?). If *I'M* mistaken, let me know and I'll make the
proper adjustments.
D. Mannequin asked about an up-date on alliance name changes, team name-changes,
etc. I did those as a courtesy for Turn 225 N/L. Without penalty to anyone. I
thought that was something that would take the tension off, and keep everyone
enjoying our little contest.
E. I personally want to extend my appreciation for Tripwire for taking the
initiative of getting an early copy of the N/L and printing it on the forums. It's
this kind of thing that really keeps me playing and I wanted to give Tripwire the
respect, and applause he deserves.
F. Lastly, allow me to give a heartfelt welcome to the following: X-Syndicate
(Impressario, Raven, Chaotix, and The Historian), Sensei Jan, Assurnassirbanipal, and
Suiside.
G. Oh, one more thing, if your scores don't show...it's because you haven't claimed,
been verified, or I didn't receive a cert for you. Iprepare everything before I get
my results back, and it all goes in the mail on the same day I get them. So...if I
don't have everything, then...no scores get counted.

Favorite lunger, eh? Hmmm...Well I trained a lunger once, back inthe day when
Snarks were Master Gs and Freedonias were still Nemesiss...s...s...uh...and he was a
"Devastator"! The ORIGINAL swamp lunger even before North Forks were swamps! Yep,
and for a score and seven turns he and his shortspear were North Fork's Popularity
Leaders. Went by the name o'Lance, he did, and with a super-manly 19-21-8-8-17-14-7
he could go 10-10-10 all minutes (and did!). Acrobatics and endurance galore, speed
a'plenty, and never left 'em wonderin' whether they'd been hit. No sir. He went 17-
13-3, and then in a fit partially of hubris I foughthim by torchlight. Sure Mr.
Coffee and I can rationalize it (slow learner, not winning as mucyh lately, etc.)
over a cup in this here fine establishment of our fellow Heathen, but he's missin'
his Latte', and I miss d'Lance. -- Snarkgeezerin'

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
SCOMSS SWAMP brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. If The Welcome Wench is buying
drinks for THE BEAR'S PAW's good turn, I'm afraid the place will be dry before long.

Why not, I'm having a good day, so I feel sorry for OF WOLF AND MAN, who went 2-2-0
and dropped 15 into 31st. Here's my pity, for what it's worth. Look out below!
MYSTIC ORC FEAST is on the way down, falling to 40th from 10th with a 0-1-0! Ha ha
ha ha! Gee, I'm impressed, a 4-1-0 is nice, but don't get cocky, LAND OF OZ, the
Fates teach humility, and the Fates are proud. SCOMSS SWAMP saw the first turn for
THE MARAUDERS, a 5-0-0, and some teams are scared, others are too arrogant to notice.
Take note friends, take note. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see LAST
CALL win a fight and gain 22 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, DON KING beat DAVID KARESH
and DAVID KARESH lost 17 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if variety is the
spice of life, SCOMSS SWAMP may be getting bland, as HOURGLASS stays top dog in the
city. Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of
these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
SCOMSS SWAMP, I am losing what little hope I had in you. ADULT SWIM the most avoided
team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And it looks like ALL SWAMP HAMMERZ
avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me.
Hmph. Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, HUGH G. GO was this turn's most challenged
warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. BOMBADIL was challenged by one of
SECOND BANANAS' warriors this turn, with KRAMER having a lead of 36 points going into
the fight. And sorry to say, KRAMER won victory over BOMBADIL, leaving a bad feeling
with the crowd. I think exploitive snob is the term I'm looking for. I guess I can
give a little credit to FRED BEAR of THE BEAR'S PAW for challenging up by 24 to SIR
GALAHAD. FRED BEAR lost to get 33 points of recognition. And we have SISTER MARY
SARAH in a challenge, going down 14 points for the fight. Guess what? I thought
SISTER MARY SARAH showed great skill and promise when he beat TARANTELLA. All right,
so I slept through it! Big deal!
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Gee, MYSTIC ORC FEAST, ain't it past due for sending
MELON MUSH Dark Arena? What took ol' '6-5-0' so long? Hope? Ha ha aha ha! DARK
PINNACLE has cause to pause today, as NOT! AGAIN! was sent to the Dark Arena, and
came back--though not in the best of moods, I'll wager. Not that I'll be buying the
drinks, but I'll be glad to see BULLSEYE and SOULFORGE at The Welcome Wench tonight
celebrating their bloodfeud victory over LIL BIT. A big yahoo goes out to HANTA this
turn, for revenging DOK SIK KILLAS' bloodfeud against FALLEN's warrior DROPSHOT.
Heh, heh, heh. It's about time GRADE TEN got beat for picking on warriors like
HAMATULA. Bravo, BAATANAR' RITEZU. See you at The Welcome Wench. Not that I'll be
