the turn after the F2F. As per the last TW, I'm beginning to update early so that
everyone is kept abreast of what's been happening. So, here's what I've got so far:

Illis, Osksi Empire. Five years ago...
The illusionist could smell another week's wages had been wasted on ale as he
sat in the well-lit common room. The barkeep had given the last call an hour
earlier. The inebriated patrons took their joys and sorrows to another tavern or
into the alleyways of Illis. The final customer had stumbled his way through the
door. Phantasm was not sure the gentleman would make it home this night. The
streets could be unforgiving in this section of the city
The Two-tailed Wyvern was a popular night spot on the eastern fringe of Illis.
Popular if you wished to drown your troubles and had little money. The ale was awful
and the company was worse, but the tavern kept a constant flow of patrons. Phantasm
was certain he never saw the same patron twice, leading him to believe this was a
final stop for many. They were either leaving Illis via the ships at dock or they
were leaving Alastari via the ruffians on the docks.
No Illisian with a sense of purpose or ambition would be found near the eastern
docks and certainly not in this tavern. No one with any sense of decency would be
found in this tavern, Phantasm finally admitted to himself. It was not the
illusionist's first choice for a drink, but it served its purpose when it came time
for business. The barkeep nodded to Phantasm as he locked the front door. He would
normally extinguish all of the candles in the common room, but a wave of the wizard's
hand completed the task. The barkeep would go upstairs and off to bed. What
business the wizard had was none of his concern. Old Tibs had learned one important
lesson in his many years as a tavern master and that was to never involve yourself in
wizardly affairs. He was not fond of Phantasm using his establishment for secret
meetings, but the pay was good and it had not caused him any trouble thus far. The
day will come he thought. The day will come.
Phantasm remained at his table with a solitary candle lit. He sat and he
waited. His job consisted of such trials. It gave him time to reflect upon events
and plan his next steps. The job of a Spymaster was never complete. As he waited
for his operatives, the illusionist reviewed the information he had upon his two
marks.
The first was a black market merchant from North Fork. An Aruaki Werecat from
all reports, though his features do not exactly fit the racial profile. An elusive
man, from the reports Phantasm had gathered, with a rather cloudy past. Phantasm had
heard rumors about the man, though they seemed more like the fancy of a bard than
actual events. Still, the illusionist was intrigued. His job as a spymaster was to
filter through the tons of false information and glean the occasional fact. If only
a quarter of the stories he heard concerning the man simply known as Kat were true,
Phantasm would find himself in a rare place...awe.
The second mark was a barbarian from the inhospitable north lands. Barbarians
are a rough mark to track in the best conditions; however, this one was proving
particularly trying. From all reports, he has been exiled from his people. It was a
minor inconvenience for the Spymaster, after all, it was his job to find people. His
operatives finally tracked the barbarian to the Andorian city of Arkers. Why a
barbarian would choose Andorian lands was beyond the wizard. Perhaps he would ask
this Maximillian if they ever met.
A stirring in the kitchen told Phantasm his operatives had arrived. They would
shed more light upon his two marks. In doing so, he hoped to find out why a secret,
yet powerful Alastarian organization had taken a sudden interest in the two men.

High atop a not so grassy knoll SomeWhere BeYond the Realm of ElseWhere and
ElseWhen sat a veteran manager offering up Praise and Adoration on a Far Distant
Christmas Day Night.
Hammer had much to be thankful for and the winds of change had blown strangely
in recent weeks. Solitude had become a welcome respite in recent days and the
benefits to be derived therein were being mined to the depths of the soul and
furthest reaches of consciousness into the hidden recesses of much valued
unconsciousness.
On a last second whim Hammer had allowed both SWAMP MESS HAMMER and SWAMP THUG
HAMMER to fight by Torchlight for the Greater Good of ALL SWAMP HAMMERZ in the
upcoming Turf War.
The exchange rate for replacements [plus the third from SWAMP LILY HAMMER
graduating] was hardly the best of offerings ever received into a HAMMERZ
dysfunctional stable, but the intrigue of seeing how they fared in the Rookies
Tourney at the Tempe Facer far outweighed the likelihood of better offerings gleaned
from a successive Torch Fight prior to the Turf War Round the First.
Hammer had signed the necessary papers and enclosed a payment with the Winged
Dispatch Rider for the Gladiatorial Commission to process the registration for
induction into his ALL SWAMP HAMMERZ stable for SWAMP FOXX HAMMER, SWAMP DAWG HAMMER
and SWAMP MUDD HAMMER to qualify for the Rookies Tourney.
The veteran manager also gave the nod for SWAMP BURP HAMMER and SWAMP CALL
HAMMER to register for their respective tourney classes even as they prepared for the
next cycle of Sand Battles in the Swamp that had been renamed and renamed.
Skill learns were vital gifts to bear back to the Turf War 5 contest struggle
and Hammer also acknowledged that his new Swamp Syndicate fellow soldier in Conflict
and Chaos known as JGW was a manager of worth and honor to Proxy his stable
forthwith.
Hammer turned his attention back to the offering of heartfelt thanks as managers
known and unknown continued to make their trek to the Swamp for Turf War 5....
DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Whoa! Write a DM Column? I didn't even expect to be here in the first place!
I challenged the great Swamp Lily Hammer, knowing full well that her skills and
expertise were so superior to mine that it would be an easy loss for me, and
subsequently I would be pushed lower in the ranks of the Challenger Champs. That was
to position me perfectly for the start of TW5.
All I can say is, foiled again, Hammer, by your significant management, ending
up with my win and the Title. Shucks.
So now, I will have to take one for the team, and abdicate. Therefore, guys,
"have at it".

SPY REPORT
So why do I have this bag over my head? Because I am The Unknown Spymaster and
I'm going to give you a spy report!. We now have a new top team for all of you guys
to dogpile on. CHEERS now holds the crown and they are betting they can keep it.
Take a look at CHEERS' act, as they have a 4-1-1 week and gain 12 places in the team
ranking. Rising in the ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny)
is THE OPERA, who swept up 12 places in the ranks. Take a look at OBSCURE LEGENDS'
act, as they have a 3-2-0 week and gain 12 places in the team ranking. Rising in the
ranks like a loaf of armored bread (okay, I admit it's corny) is X-MEN II, who swept
up 18 places in the ranks. What goes up, must come down. Watch out DOUBLE-X! THE
BEAR'S PAW may fall on you as it crushes past the teams below it to fall on the 17th
spot. It looks like the guys(?) at GAELIC STORM had a good week as they went 3-1-0
to put them in 12th place. I guess steroids help! Call it luck at the right time or
bribes in the right hands, but the new team HEART BREAKERS scored a 4-1-1 record this
week. Don't these new hotshots make you sick (or, if they fought you, hurt)?
DOOMWOLVES, on their very first turn, went 4-1-0. DREADBLADE seems to have it's eye
on the top team spot, and if they continue having 4-1-1 weeks they may get it! Hey
everybody, watch out for BARBARINO, who flew up 19 points in the rankings after
mashing POLARIS like a melon. Keep your eye on this guy. And falling like a basher
in the top ten was BABY, who dropped 13 points after a disappointing (to say the
least) bout with NILES. Well, if ya don't shows up at the laundromat, ya can'ts wash
yer clothes. BOQ did not fight this week so his title was forfeit. In front of all
the crowds, DON KING took the Duelmaster's crown for his own. I give the bum two
weeks. 4 out of 5 gladiators surveyed protect the body, so try and avoid aiming at
that location.
But enough of that bunch, let's get on to the wimps who like to avoid battle!
And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't avoid STRANGE BREW, please raise you hand.
Wow. Does DOUBLE-X really have that many liars? And you guys like to boo me? Well,
unsling your rasberries, cause TIMELY HEROES beats feet every time STRANGE BREW
smiles at them. Try farming, eh? And who is this KENSAI you ask, with 32 points and
a 4-5-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could tell! Can any one out there say 'weasel'?
Oh well, just saying FRED BEAR will do. He challenged 25 points down to trash ROISIN
DUBH. Here is a definition of happiness: ROISIN DUBH subdued FRED BEAR to go from
82 to 101 recognition points. In a touching display by a 'touched' warrior, DEATH
KISS went after NIGHTCRAWLER, who was higher by 24 points. Well, when the dust
settled, DEATH KISS was subdued by NIGHTCRAWLER. BOB'S COMIC COLLECTN of THINGS I
DROOL IN had better have a good reason for challenging down 11 points in a challenge
which it won. I thought BOB'S COMIC COLLECTN showed great skill and promise when it
overcame SIEGE BEST. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Remember that an arena is not always a safe place to be, but it is one of the
most interesting, though! Knowing when to use the right tactics at the proper time
is a very important step on the road to Duelmaster.
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in DOUBLE-X have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. C'mon, Leadfoot, let's make some
tracks. And remember, you can pick your friends and you can pick your--(loud boos),

ANNOUNCING THE NO-TOURNAMENT ARENA (81)
As an American I honor my cultural heritage by stealing any good idea. This idea was
originally proposed by Lord Xiang in November 2005. RSI will be opening the arena
(81) for teams willing to sign the following pledge:
* I pledge that I will not send warriors from this arena to a Tournament, nor will I
use a Tournament prize on a warrior from this arena.
* I pledge to run a full team when I run turns in this arena. If circumstances
preclude my running less than a full team I will notify the Player Committee.
* I agree to abide by the decisions of the Player Committee.
* I understand that any warrior that participates in a Tournament shall be sent to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
* I understand that any warrior that receives a Tournament prize shall be send to
the Dark Arena until they are dead.
The following are the rules for joining this No-Tournament arena
1. No tournament play for warriors in this arena (Dead tournament or otherwise).
2. One team per manager.
3. Teams start with new rollup (or a zero fight equivalent team is transferred into
this arena.)
4. No tourney prizes allowed to modify warriors in the arena.
5. Twenty teams required, per RSI.
6. Waivers are required to allow self-regulation on tourney ban, granting RSI
authority to Dark Arena any warrior that participates in a Tournament (until the
warrior is dead).
7. Rotating council to enforce tourney ban and maintain arena integrity.
The main purpose of the Player Committee is to maintain fair play in the arena:
* Warriors that participate in Tournaments will be sent to the Dark Arena until they
are dead. This means that the Player Committee has the power to send another
player's warrior to the Dark Arena
* Managers that abuse the rules of the Arena may be banned/transferred from the
Arena.
The player with the most votes for Chairman will fill slot 1 [Chairperson] and that
term expires end of March 2007.
The player with the most votes overall will fill slot 5 and that term expires end of
November 2007.
The player with the second most votes overall will fill slot 4 and that term expires
end of September 2007.
The player with the third most votes overall will fill slot 3 and that term expires
end of November 2007.
The player with the fourth most votes overall will fill slot 2 and that term expires
end of May 2007.
During the month that the chairperson's term expires the Player Committee will select
one of the remaining 4 players to be the next chairperson. During the month that any
member's term expires the arena will vote for a different player to join the Players'
Committee.

The first turn will run in January 2007. This will be a normal speed arena.
While I am encouraging everyone to use TEAM MAINTENANCE it is not mandatory.

are discouraged and will a topic for the Player Committee to resolve.

The Honor of Sunset Award:
The first team to reach 10 Team Kills. In the case that there is more than one
team that achieves 10 Team Kills on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most kills. If two or more teams are tied for Team Kills, I will prolong
the contest until one team has the most Kills in the Arena (it does not have to be
one of the teams that first reached 10 Team Kills.)
The Race to Victory Award:
The first team to reach 75 Team Wins. In the case that there is more than one
team that reaches 75 Team wins on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the team
with the most wins. If two or more teams are tied for Team Wins, I will prolong the
contest until one team has the most wins in the Arena (it does not have to be one of
the teams that first reached 75 Team Wins.)
The Commitment to Change Award:
The first team to reach 125 Team Fights. In the case that there is more than
one team that reaches 125 Team Fights on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
team with the most fights. If two or more teams are tied for Team Fights, I will
prolong the contest until one team has the most fights in the Arena (it does not have
to be one of the teams that first reached 125 Team Fights.) I hope I never give out
this award {figure it out on your own.}
The Team Advancement Award:
The first team to graduate 5 warriors to ADM. In the case that there is more
than 1 team that graduates 5 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the
first team to graduate 6 warriors. In the case that there is more than 1 team that
graduates 6 warriors on the same turn, I will pay the Award to the first team to
graduate 7 warriors, and so on.
The Iron Throne Award:
The first team to hold the Duelmaster for 10 turns STARTING ON TURN 11.
The Stylemaster Award.
The first team to hold the Stylemaster Award in 7 different styles, STARTING ON
TURN 11. If two teams obtain Stylemaster Awards in 7 styles on the same turn, the
goal will be increased to 8 Styles.
Team Recognition Points: The total recognition points for all warriors in the arena
The Iron Throne Ledger: We will track who has been the Duelmaster every turn in
Arena history.
Iron Throne Counter: The total number of times a team has been the Duelmaster.
Composite Team Stylemaster awards: The number of times a team has had any of the 10
Stylemasters. Having 2 Stylemasters = 2 points that turn.
Challenge win percentage: How often your warriors win when they challenge.
Challenge Defender rate: How often your warriors win when they WERE challenged.
Team Invitations: Number of warriors graduated to ADM.
Team Graduation Rate: Total team fights/Graduated Warriors.
Team Kill Percentage: Total of team Kills/Team Fights
Team Death Percentage: Total of Team Deaths/Team Fights
Team Revenge Rate: Number of Deaths/BloodFeuds Revenged (Note that the Dark Arena
will be counted as not-revenged.) You only get credit for one successful
BloodFeud per death (though I encourage you to BloodFeud all 4 turns.)
Current Win Streaks: Warriors that have gone the most turns without losing or
missing a turn.
Team Yahtzee counter: Number of times a team has gone 5-0 in a turn.
Team Bagel counter: Number of times a team has fought without a win.
Team Dark Arena counter: Number of times each team has used the Dark Arena.
The Most Feared (avoided) Team counter: Number of turns that team was the most
avoided team.

JANUARY FACE-TO-FACE IN TEMPE!
Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 12-14, 2007. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-894-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $149.00 per night, 1-4 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception (yes, really!), free
airport shuttle, free parking, high speed internet (for extra charge), fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--please make your reservation by December 15
before the block is released! (This is prime season for Phoenix, and several people
were unable to book rooms last year because they waited too long.) Look for
