                       TURF WAR XII -- TW12 (Rev 8-8-20)
(Start turn after FTF or Mailer JAN 2021)

Bring acclaim and glory to the North Fork (DM47)

TURF WARS is a team event and unlike all other events in D2, involves "certs."

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, thrown-together alliances, or
temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each
alliance or participant must:

1. Announce an Alliance Name, Captain, and Assistant of the alliance in the North
Fork (DM 47) newsletter or on the RSI site.

2. Determine and submit either 1 or 2 or 3 certificates per participant. Amounts can
be different per alliance participant. (See Scoring section for more details.)

3. Each participating team must run in DM47 on one of the three turns prior to the
start of TW12 so that the team shows in the last newsletter prior to the 1st TW12
    turn.

At the end of the game, Captains are responsible for distributing any winning
certificates to the team participants.

No alliance scores can be tabulated until the chosen amount of RSI Gift Certificates
are received, the teams are listed in the newsletter, and participant indication and
captain confirmation are posted in the North Fork newsletter.

All entry certs should be sent to Oz or The Consortium via RSI.

Only one (1) team per player/manager may compete in the Turf Wars, and only one team
per player/manager may compete in North Fork DM47 during the Turf War. No arena
multiple teams or aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate manager
disqualification (including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to
take any multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other
team warriors). NOTE: Since alliances require two teams, this would mean the remaining
alliance member cannot score in the TW.

Any Turf War team must show/be posted/listed in the DM47 Newsletter just prior to
their actual scoring/participation. (E.g. New teams, transfers, current teams must
show up in the newsletter prior to the beginning of participation, allowing opponent
knowledge and challenging/avoiding.) Manager/teams may not participate/score in the
Turf War the same turn they are first posted in the newsletter. (So get your team in
the newsletter early.) Teams do not have to run that turn prior to TW12-T1, but will
have had to run shortly before to allow their warriors to be visible in the newsletter
just prior to TW12-T1.

Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not properly declare or
get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the Turf War, and you
have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions
must be met before scoring will begin: declaration, confirmation, NL listing, and Gift
Certificate received.

No declarations or confirmations will be accepted after Turn 2 of the Turf War. For
purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War and settle any and all
disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note: the intent is to have a
very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are required from the
moderators.)

No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death or death
in a tournament or graduation. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any
point and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -25 points.)

SCORING will be as follows: Only three things affect scoring. Number of initial certs
submitted, wins, fighting all five warriors, and the round modifier. (Later rounds
have higher modifiers.)

NUMBER OF CERTS SUBMITTED

1. Alliances will start the competition with the amount of points based on the amount
   of certs submitted.

Two certs (1 each, the minimum required) = 0 points.
Three certs total = 3 points for the alliance
Four certs total = 6 points for the alliance
Five certs total = 10 for the alliance
Six certs (the max) total = 15 for the alliances

2. After the sixth and after the eleventh round those same amount of turn starting
points are awarded to each alliance.

3. Hence, alliances may earn up to 45 points through the event via certs. (Note: cert
points are not impacted by the Round Modifier.)

NUMBER OF WINS

1. Each teammate win per round is worth 3 base points. (e.g. 1 win = 3 points, 5 wins
   = 15 points)

FIGHT ALL FIVE WARRIORS

1. Each turn there is a +3 base point bonus for each teammate fighting all five
   warriors

2. Each turn there is a -3 base point penalty for each teammate not fighting all five
   warriors.

ROUND MODIFIER

1. The first 6 rounds of TW12 are scored at 1x base points. (Base points includes win
scoring, and any all-5 bonus/penalty, but not any cert scoring)

2. The 7th through 11th rounds are scored at 2x base points.

3. For the final and 12th round, base point scoring is at x3.

Special Considerations:

1. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If you begin
the Turf War with Alliance X, you must end the Turf War with Alliance X. If you
begin the Turf War with Team X, you must end the Turf War with Team X.

2. Each alliance is comprised of two and only two managers.

3. The Dark Arena may be used without penalty. (Limit twice per warrior.)

4, If at any time, the Moderators determine that any non-TW team in the arena is
aiding and/or abetting any TW alliance or team, the affected points won by the
gifted team/alliance will be disallowed and the aiding non-TW team will be asked to
desist from play in the arena until after the Turf War concludes.

***---------*---------*---------*---------**---------*---------*---------*---------***

The mood was somber. Training in the yard had been suddenly cancelled, and all Red
Company warriors had been summoned to their manager's estate. A group of 20 or so
crowded into the private chambers of the tiny villa to receive some important news,
although most could have guessed what it was. Some of the new recruits -- Bella,
Sloane and a handful of other bright-eyed, babyfaced teens, shifted uncomfortably back
and forth.

"I spoke with the chirurgeon this morning," croaked TRC, draining the last of his tea
from a mug on the bedside stand. "He said, 'The Gods are indifferent to the outcome,
but no one has ever survived the procedure before, and in your advanced years...' "

"49 is old?" thought Acrobat aloud. He was never the brightest star in the sky, but he
was right. It wasn't old. At least, TRC didn't *feel* old.

Skye deftly sidestepped the mug sailing through the air that bounced squarely off
Acrobat's face. He stood, confused at being chastised, for a moment, before resuming
his simple musings. In truth, TRC had become more irritable of late, and spent much
less time directly involved in his managerial duties.

The parry riposte stepped in and laid a hand on her manager's shoulder. "We're here
with you, boss. Like always."

TRC was visibly choked up, his eyes glassed over with welling tears. He swallowed hard
to fight them down, and lifted his hand to hers. "My Skye, like the daughter I never
had, always my favorite. " The Araoi elf was never what one would consider beautiful,
but was unconventionally pretty, "ultra-cute" as some would say. But to him, she was
absolutely perfect. She was grown now, not the freckle-faced elfling that shyly crept
into his stable so many years before. The long, flowing hair she so treasured in her
earlier days was shorn at the neck, a change that she welcomed with great delight.
Once the color of spun honey, it had turned a mousy brown color, streaked with wisps
of gray here and there.

"I never told you this, but there was another team, long ago. Oh, I wasn't much older
than they were, younger in some cases. The fights were just starting all over
Alastari, and we all had dreams of making it big." He began coughing uncontrollably.

A towering, hulk of a man had slipped quietly into the room behind everyone else. Upon
seeing his former manager in such a state, he strode purposefully toward the bed. Skye
held up one hand, freezing him in place. "He needs to get through this on his own,"
she whispered. The man acquiesced.

"Ah, Billy, you've come!" marveled TRC.

"Yes, Master." His deep, baritone voice rumbled in his barrel chest. "All is well on
the Isle. Lady Greywand sends her regards."

"It is good to see you again, my old friend. I'm glad you've come. Be sure to extend
my deepest regards to The Lady upon your return. I was just telling them about Lonol."

The large man spoke plainly, bluntly. "He is also well, but no longer competes."

TRC nodded. "As it should be. Now where was I? We lived in Ti then, on the northwest
coast. Wonderful city! The seafood was unbelievable! There was always something going
on, a buzz of energy in the air that was unlike anything else...

"Well, when he first showed up on my doorstep replying to some flyer I'd scribbled on
a wall with hundreds of others like them, I knew right away that he was different.
Gods! We were so young then, we didn't have the Halls of Knowledge that you kids rely
on like a religion. Bah! It's more like a cult, I think, but who am I to say?

"Ti was humming, and every tavern patron would spin some tale or other about the
latest matches, throwing around names like Korfang Yorgax, Borimor, Hector, B.E.A.S.T.
Master or dropping snide remarks about The Wild Side and their full stable of scum. It
was the hey-day of Duelm-"

Skye cut him off. "You know we're not allowed to call it that anymore."

"The games, then. Yes, how about that?"

The elf smirked, and nodded once.

[For the record, Lonol 23-117 of The Backpackers was 11(1)-11(2)-10-17(1)-13(1)-7(1)-
21 PR designed through pure blunder by a kid who had no idea what he was doing. He
graduated around 28-12-0 IIRC from CC points alone, was never a DM, VL-LO, SS (ew
favs!)].

"But Lonol was my first taste of success. I can never forget that. The rest were
dregs, mostly. This one kid, B.J. Backpacker, wasn't too bright, but man! Could he
lunge like there was no tomorrow! [+4 att] No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get
him to quit until he passed out. [21WL] He tried hard. He just wasn't learning as fast
as I wanted him to. He was 8-5 when I scheduled him for a Dark Arena fight. When he
showed up the next day at the training yard, still covered in mountain troll blood, I
sent him back the following week. I always wonder what might have happened if I
hadn't... well, what I'm trying to say is that I've made some mistakes in my time, and
I do have a few regrets--a few 'could have beens'," TRC sighed dejectedly, "but it's
too late to change any of that now."

"After Lonol, Billy and a few others had gone off to the Isle of the Eye, Ti started
to lose its luster for me. And my stable was almost as far from the arena as you could
get and still say you were in the city! The long trek each way was taking its toll on
me. A bard, who had travelled far from the east, sang a song of the foundations being
laid for a new arena. It was to have slower-paced schedule, only half as often. At the
time, I had a few initiates and apprentices in The Backpackers, but none of them had
the heart of a Duelmaster -- none had the hunger to sit on that coveted throne above
all others.

So I dismissed them all, packed everything up and I was off to Monuntial, clear on the
other side of Alastari! It took months to get there, and I was surely not disappointed
when I did! What a sight to behold! The arena was brand, spanking new. Not a single
drop of blood had been spilled on the powdery, soft sand. My first task was to secure
a decent stable. All the really good ones close to the arena had been claimed, but
there was one along the alley, a bit run-down and downwind of the tanner's, so the
smells..." TRC shuddered. "The seller had made a feeble attempt at sprucing it up by
running red banners around the perimeter, and I thought, we'll be 'The Company of the
Red Banner.' It was the stable closest to the arena within my price range, so, of
course, I bought it. The name stuck in my craw for days, though. Too long, didn't roll
off the tongue. Why not just, 'The Red Company'. Thus, it was.

Of course, I wasn't idle during my journey. I'd convinced four travelling companions
to seek their fame and fortune with me in the new city. I knew from my experiences and
failures in Ti that this group were champions -- all of them. Havok, the lunger,
graduated around 30 FE and 20 wins, although 6 of his losses were to scum. This was
way back, too, during the dark times before The Gods struck down Total Parries as a
style. I have to think he'd have done better if it hadn't been for them. Brawn, our
basher, was sharp as a knife and strong as an ox! He killed 6 men, you know?" TRC
chuckled at his own reminiscing. "He would keep swinging so fast, the Arenamaster
couldn't intervene quickly enough."

"And Sunder. I found him pulling his father's plow in a field -- solo -- so they could
plant cabbages. Cabbages!" TRC spat. "We took him in, gave him a few pointers on how
to swing a sword, just basic stuff. He, too, was called by Lady Greywand perhaps a
year after Havok. Brawn went with him. It's a shame. He and Brawn were both good
killers, too. Four in the arena, and maybe one or two more in tournaments. Oh, he was
so wonderfully average, but immensely strong. I think he and Brawn had a running bet
on kill count."

Another coughing fit overtook the greying manager. He reached for the small teapot on
the bed stand. Skye retrieved his mug, crossed over and took the pot from him. He
nodded his thanks to her, accepted the tea and sipped carefully, before continuing.

"Rogue was the best of the bunch -- and the most difficult warrior I had ever managed
up until then. I really should've taught him a better way to fight -- he had the speed
to be a great striker, the endurance of a mighty lunger, and the build of a real
contender. I kept telling him to hold back, to let his opponents wear themselves down,
but he ended up attacking anyway. It was selfish of me, to force him into a role he
didn't want, but it was for the good of the team! He outlasted every single scum I
sent him hunting, and I made sure everyone knew about it, too. After that, they *all*
stopped challenging our team. He was truly one of the greats. That is, until he died."

"How is he fighting in Crysalis, then?" asked Sloane, incredulous. The rookie, barely
18, had just joined after they'd sent back the corpse of Danse from Tournament LXX.

TRC smiled. "I made a very good offering to Ahringol, and prayed to him every day for
a year."

"So it's true, then," murmured Bella, another new recruit.

"It is! The Great God of Death smiled upon Rogue, and although the trial was arduous
to say the least, he was returned to us, alive! You will never hear him speak of it
without at least a dozen Khalums spirits in his belly, though." TRC's face distorted,
as if there was some foul stench in the air. "He could only describe it as an horrific
orgy of violence. I didn't care. As long as Ahringol was pleased, so was I."

"That's only four, though. Havok, Brawn, Sunder and Rogue, not a full team," said
Bella.

TRC smiled, knowingly. "Pierce showed up one day like he owned the place, like we
needed him, not the other way around. I had already established a reputation as one of
the top teams in the early goings of Monuntial, and wasn't going to take in the same
kind of low-grade fodder I had received in Ti."

" 'Just give me a chance to show you what I can do. I won't let you down,' Pierce
would say."

"So I did. And he failed, miserably. Over and over. Still, from each failure, he
excelled in his yard training -- became more precise, more refined. As a true test
that would decide his fate, I hired the biggest, nastiest orc in town to put a beating
on him on the practice sands. The first swing, Pierce leaned left away from it. The
next, he leaned right, then dropped the orc with one shot to the head. I mean, out
cold! That was when I knew he had earned his place amongst the renowned of our team.

"After that, he only lost two or three very close matches, out-jumping strikers,
picking lungers and slashers apart and striking fear into every parry-style near him.
He went on to hold the Throne for several turns before the call. He was my ugly
duckling that became a swan."

"And then the wars happened. I had to leave, to go and fight [IRL, army]. Not by
choice, mind you, but I did my duty, and then some. For more than 14 years, I longed
to return to my beloved Monuntial. And when my service was done, I did indeed return
to find the city in ashes, the arena torn down and used for makeshift shelters. My
heart was truly heavy, and my will to continue had been crushed.

"Almost out of habit, I made my way to what was left of the old, smelly stables where
I'd spent so many hours, days, months, years. The acrid scent still lingered, mixed
with woodsmoke among the blackened pillars still left standing. I wandered around,
almost brought to tears by the flood of memories, both fond and infuriating, among the
wreckage, when I spied a section of wall that was not completely destroyed. Scrawled
into it was a simple message: *If you see this, find me in North Fork. -- Skye*

"I sank to my knees, fingers tracing the lines of each letter. My throat swelled,
choking the voice from it. Could this be true? Could fate have smiled upon me, to
spare that one part of the building from destruction? Could I still find hope? There
was only one way to find out.

"My trek to North Fork was slow. I'd run out of money several times and had to take a
few odd jobs along the way to make ends meet. Slowly but surely, I continued my
progress day by day until, finally, my arrival. I made a few subtle inquiries about
Skye's whereabouts, and discovered she was still there, and had taken on a role as
yard instructor for hire."

A single tear traced its path down Skye's cheek. She tried to laugh it off, weakly.
"You came strolling up, like 20 years ago was yesterday."

TRC nodded his agreement. "I looked her up and down. Some scars I recognized, some I
didn't, and asked, 'Think you can still fight?' "

"For you?"

"For *The Red Company*."

"A grin from ear to ear split Skye's face. She nodded.

And so it began again.

See, I have warned you beforehand. --- Matthew 24:25 Amplified Bible

Hammer was glad to see that Maximillian, his old friend who had signed on to help him
moderate the Morya Madness over 17 years ago, had returned to Alastari to once again
compete on the Arena Sands!

Better News was that Maximillian was sending his Natural Born Killers to North Fork
Arena to bloody their blades afresh and anew!

Hammer shared with his Good Friend that there were rumors that Turf War 12 would soon
be unleashed upon the North Fork Arena Sands and that said rumors had been recently
confirmed by Oz the All Knowing of Land Of Oz fame!

Max was thrilled to hear that TW12 was heading to Arena 47 as he exclaimed: "Oooo!
Interesting! I'd do a Turf War with you! Just like old times!"

The Two Friends quickly agreed upon a Team Name with Hammer serving as Captain, while
Maximillian was content to serve as First Mate of the Killers Blades! on the North
Fork Arena Sands!

"May Your Blades Be Sharp and Your Wits Sharper!"

                     SECOND DELUXE ARVAT CONTEST EXTRAORDINAIRE

Who can join? Anyone with a team in Arvat as of 11/1/2020.

When does it start? First turn due after 11/1/2020.

How long does it run? 13 turns.

How do I join? Announce your manager name and team name in the Arvat newsletter prior
to 11/1/2020 and state that you are entering the contest. Prior to the contest
actually starting you need to have 2 rollup certs sent to the Dark One care of RSI.
No sheets, no contest.

How do I win the contest? The team which has accrued the most points as of the end of
the 13th turn is the winner. The team which has the 2nd most points is declared the
runner up. And the team which has the 3rd most points is declared honorable
contender. Everyone else is a loser and should be ridiculed.

How do I score points?

1. Every challenge you win vs. another team in the contest = 10 points, as long as
that challenge is to a warrior equal to or above yours in the rankings. Except
for the Duelmaster who can challenge anyone he wants.

2. You also earn bonus points for every challenge won. For every point of
recognition your target is ranked above you, you earn one bonus point. This is
    for challenges only.

3. If you are challenged by a warrior below you and defeat him, you will gain 5
    points.

4. Also every random matchup that you win will earn you 5 points ? up or down.

5. You CAN downchallenge, however you get no points for doing so, and if you are
beaten, your opponent will earn 10 points and the right to ridicule you in the
    newsletter.

6. Bloodfeud challenges count just like regular challenges during the contest.

7. In addition there are the following bonus points that are awarded each turn:

 A. Duelmaster earns 10 points

 B. Graduating a warrior earns 10 points

 C. Recognition Leader (Chartered or Unchartered) earns 5 points (if the Duelmaster
is the recognition leader as well, then only the DM points apply)

 D. Popularity Leader earns 5 points

 E. Turn?s most popular earns 5 points

 F. Top team on the move earns 5 points

 G. Current Top team earns 10 points

 H. Any warrior that earns a Tournament Champion in either the January FTF or April
     Mail In earns 20 points

 I. Any warrior that earns a Tournament Victor in either of those tournaments earns
     10 points

 J. Note that Top Chartered and Unchartered team awards do NOT earn points

What are the rules regarding other teams in the arena? If you challenge any warriors
not participating in the contest you LOSE 20 points, unless the challenged warrior is
the Duelmaster. It is always acceptable to challenge the Duelmaster. HOWEVER ? if
you are challenged by a team not in the contest, you may challenge back the following
turn. If you win that challenge you will get 10 points.

If any manager has a 2nd (or 3rd) team in the arena they may NOT challenge any warrior
of any team participating in the contest or they are DISQUALIFIED.

What do I win if I win this contest?

1. The winner wins all of the rollup certificates given as entry fee for the contest.
In addition, the winner gets to pick 3 of the prizes below.

2. The runner up gets to pick 2 of the prizes below.

3. The honorable contender gets to pick one of the prizes below.

In addition, all competitors in the contest who run all 13 turns and at least 62 total
fights will earn a potion of +1 bonus, which must be used on a warrior who
participated at least 1 fight in the contest.

Also, the team that scores the most points on any one turn of the contest (other than
the winner, runner up or honorable contender) can pick one prize that was NOT selected
by those three.

Prize Pool:

Once a prize is picked it is removed from the pool.

1. Limited stat switch (You can swap any 2 stats you want on an Arvat replacement
rollup that you receive within the next 6 month)

2. Extra replacements (Next time you get a replacement (or whenever you want within 6
months) in Arvat you can ask RSI for 5 additional replacements and select the best
    one for your team)

3. Limited damage bump (You can pick one warrior on your Arvat team to move up one
damage class ? as long as he remains in-bounds for his ST/SZ stats)

4. Favorite weapon knowledge (You learn the favorite weapon of one of your Arvat
warriors ? must be on the team during the contest)

5. Favorite rhythm knowledge (You learn the favorite offensive effort and activity
level of one of your Arvat warriors, who most have been on your team during the
    contest.)

6. Shrinking potion (You get to take 3 points of size away from an Arvat replacement
during the next 6 months and add the 3 points to another stat ? both SZ and the
other stat must remain in bounds)

7. Extra skills (Any one of your warriors in Arvat learns 3 extra skills of your
choice (no more than 2 can be in the same area and must be in bounds)

8. Extra train (Any one of your Arvat warriors gets an extra stat train in the area
of your choice ? and must be in bounds)

9. Limited protection from death (Pick one of your Arvat warriors and for 5 turns
from application of this prize, that warrior will come back from the dead if he
dies in the arena. No DAing and no tourneys)

All prizes must be applied within 6 months from the end of the tournament, must be on
Arvat warriors from the team that participated in the contest and all prize results
must be in bounds.

                                     KALTOS KAOS

THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have
borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance
(unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to
and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active
persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us, --- Hebrews
  12:1 Amplified Classic

                                      * * * * *

Ironhand, the owner of The Golden Ship Inn, stood before the small crowd that had
gathered and motioned for his guests to have a seat with a sweeping wave of the steel
hook that had replaced his right hand after a bloody engagement between his ship and
another ten years ago.

Because of the location of The Golden Ship Inn, standing on a headland overlooking the
main harbor on Kaltos, the disrepair of the dilapidated Kaltos Arena could not be
seen. From the turret on top of the inn, one could look across to Lord Lindharrow's
castle on the opposite horn of the little bay and see all the shipping sheltered
within.

But this evening was not about castles and shipping, but rather how a once magnificent
Kaltos Arena could possibly be restored to some of its former glory.

Although Lindharrow of Vandal's Bay is the Protector of Kaltos, the island's
representative on the Crown Council and the closest thing to a governor, it was not
Lindharrow that Ironhand had brought before the gathered crowd, but rather it was
Arenamaster Troktai and another rather special guest. There are few laws in Kaltos
and those that exist are not rigorously enforced, which is why Ironhand chose to
invite Arenamaster Troktai to address the issue of the dilapidated Kaltos Arena.

Arenamaster Troktai got directly to the point, without a lot of pomp and circumstance,
by introducing a Veteran Manager, known far and wide as Hammer, who had recently
returned to Alastari. One of his motivations for returning was to host a contest in a
fast arena that would hearken back to the glory of the Hammer hosted Morya Madness
that had begun over 17 years ago and concluded over 15 years ago: 28 rounds of Madness
in Morya Arena that Hammer desired to emulate in Kaltos arena for 25 rounds!

Hammer stood before the small crowd to unveil his plan to rejuvenate Kaltos Arena (DM
5) at the behest of Arenamaster Troktai, including an announcement of the upcoming
Kaltos Kaos contest to be held in the currently sparsely populated Delarq Arena (4 of
7 active in Kaltos arena as of turn 912). Kaltos arena had fallen into a bit of
disrepair with the sparse revenue generated from even sparser crowds, but the much
needed revenue from a 25 turn contest beginning with T-926 (due date 2/1/21) and
ending with T-950 (due date 1/3/22) would provide more than enough for repairs and
improvements for the overall prosperity of Kaltos Arena!

Hammer had also succeeded in purchasing the northeast section of Kaltos arena to build
his Klub Kaltos, as an act of good faith that the Kaltos Kaos contest would attract
enough managers, both old and new, to pump new life into a once glorious arena! Klub
Kaltos would feature some of the finest dining and gambling venues that Kaltos had
ever seen, plus provide a training area and housing for the stable that Hammer was
entering for the Kaltos Kaos.

Five of his retired Lord Protectors had been lured by the Veteran Manager to help make
Klub Kaltos a success, by providing future patrons the opportunity to rub shoulders
with some of his legendary Lord Protectors from the early years of Hammer's managerial
history.

Zebra of Jungle Fever (DM 39), a Total Parry with a Short Sword as his favorite
weapon, who was the only Hammer-managed warrior to ever TV in a tourney, had agreed to
oversee the dining area and mingle with the crowd. He had won a TV in a Novices
tourney (1 or 2 FE) long ago at a Tempe Facer, before the Novices tourney had been
eliminated from tournaments by the Gladiatorial Commission.

Death Duck 1, a Basher with a Morningstar favorite weapon, along with Death Duck 7, a
Piker favoring a Small Shield as her favorite weapon, had both fought in Kaltos Arena
years ago as representatives of Da Deadly Ducks, the first Hammer managed stable to
ever run in Kaltos. Da Deadly Ducks duo were now assigned as celebrities to run the
Klub Kaltos gambling facilities.

Mahatsawd, a Basher favoring a Mace as his favorite weapon, along with Madkawraw?s
Law, a Ripper favoring an Epee as her favorite weapon, were both from the veteran
manager?s first-ever stable that began fighting on Noblish Island under the Milchamah
banner.

Hammer introduced the duo as two of his favorite warriors from his original stable,
Milchamah, who the veteran manager had convinced to come to Klub Kaltos to train the
stable that Hammer was entering in the Kaltos Kaos Klassick Kontest Kompetition. Klub
Kaltos, the veteran manager explained to the gathered crowd, included a gladiator
training facility where his stable of warriors, who Hammer was entering in the Kaltos
Kaos, would be housed for training in private as well as featured in some public
exhibition matches for his gambling facilities.

A ripple of excited cheers arose from the five Gladiators that had been languishing in
oblivion these past several years during the absence of the veteran manager, their
stable all-but-forgotten, but Hammer raised both his hands and stared somberly at his
rusty relics, before announcing publicly:

"You have been transferred to Storm Point arena!"

The Veteran Manager had to break the news to his Kaltos Kriminals (514) stable that
they had been transferred to Storm Point Arena (DM 86) because of two of the contest
categories that were to be the highlights of the Kaltos Kaos (as had the same two
categories also been the contest category highlights in the original Morya Madness
contest that Hammer had hosted those many long years ago!), namely, the First Initiate
Duelmaster and the Top Ten Fighting Styles. Obviously, the only eligible warriors to
win this prize are those who are listed in the Initiates rankings on the first
round/Turn 926 or later! Therefore, the Kaltos Kriminals with 4 arena fight
experience, namely Assault N Battery, Wanted For Murder, Shady Larry LaRue and Trick
Ponie Polly, would probably not be eligible to compete for the First Initiate
Duelmaster [after fighting in either one or both of the two upcoming tourneys], nor
for one of the Top Ten Fighting Styles!

Upon hearing "You have been transferred to Storm Point arena!" the Kaltos Kriminals
were crestfallen!

The RSI approved prize for the First Initiate Duelmaster is the opportunity
to rename the DM 5 arena for 6 months.

The RSI approved prize for each of the Top Ten Fighting Styles is the
favorite weapon knowledge reveal for any one of a contest-registered team?s
active warriors on round 25/Turn 950. Eligible warriors must declare their
name and fighting style in the DM 5 personal ads on the first round that they
enter the Kaltos Kaos. All warriors must have 0 arena fight experience to
enter as a Top Ten Fighting Style competitor and must rank as an 0-1 or 1-0
Initiate after their first arena fight experience!

In other words, any warrior ranked as a Challenger Initiate with more than one arena
fight experience after their fight debut is automatically disqualified to compete for
one of the Top Ten Style awards, so choose your tournament entries wisely! It gives
non-tourney managers the opportunity to compete for a Top Ten Fighting Style prize!
[Tourney warriors may die!]

This obviously eliminates the four Kaltos Kriminals mentioned above, because they
already have 4 arena fights; therefore, only Cooking The Books would be eligible to
compete with 0 arena fight experience!

First Initiate Duelmaster contenders include every warrior on a registered
team that is ranked as an Initiate after the first round in the DM 5 Turn 926
newsletter. [This includes tourney experienced warriors and warriors who have
fought in DM 5 on previous turns.]

"You have been transferred to Storm Point Arena!" resonated in their ears as Hammer's
Kaltos Kriminals grumbled a bit at being denied the opportunity to compete in the
Kaltos Kaos, which had a rippling effect throughout the sparse crowd. Arenamaster
Troktai stepped forward while Hammer spent a few minutes talking privately to his
Kaltos Kriminals stable.

Arenamaster Troktai raised his hands to quiet the small crowd as he proclaimed that
the winner of the most 'This Week's Most Favorite Warrior' and the winner of the most
'This Week's Least Favorite Warrior' would be awarded the first choice to change the
name and statements of the Dark Arena monster of their choice [with exception of the
Arenamaster himself] and the first choice to change the name and statements of the NPC
character of their choice, respectively.

RSI Prize: Rename and Change the Statements of a DM 5 Dark Arena Monster of
your choice [excepting the Arenamaster] is awarded to the team with the most
'This Week's Most Favorite Warrior' awards listed over the course of the
    contest.

RSI Prize: Rename and Change the Statements of a DM 5 NPC Character of your
choice is awarded to the team with the most 'This Week's Least Favorite
Warrior' awards listed over the course of the contest.

Arenamaster Troktai went on to proclaim that the remaining Dark Arena monsters and NPC
characters that were not chosen by the two winners will be placed in a drawing pool
[to change the name and statements] from which the remaining Kaltos Kaos registered
managers would be selected, as bonus prizes for merely being registered for the Kaltos
Kaos! The first 20 managers to register for the Kaltos Kaos & the host & co-scorer are
guaranteed to automatically be entered in the random draw!

Arenamaster Troktai motioned for Hammer to conclude the announcements of the other
Kaltos Kaos Kontest Kategories, as his Kaltos Kriminals sat down for more drinks,
resigned to their Arena 86 fate!

Hammer began to explain to the small crowd that the Round 25/Turn 950 Duelmaster,

Adept, Highest Ranked Adept, Highest Ranked Challenger Initiate and Highest Ranked

5 had ever seen bleed on the arena sands!

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Yes. Your China Princess is Duelmaster. How nice. I guess I am a pretty hardy
Babe, since after nearly 60 fights (Yeah, I have tournament experience.) no one has
broken my china. I wonder ....
I fought that scoundrel, Little Various, (He really is a little scoundrel.) and
he was kind of easy. Oh we clashed at first, (Is 10 clashes a lot?) but there were
never really any doubts that I am the faster and quicker, and prettier. Then eight
whacks later (six crits, two extra damage) he bowed his head. I'm glad. I didn't want
to kill the scoundrel.
You all know I just came back from fighting in the Summer Mailer where I won the
Basher Stylemaster in Challengers. I was proud! I was perfect against wastes and
aimers and lungers, whilst picking up nine nice skills and two stats. It was quite a
fun event for me.
But to the news. I am getting close to graduation, and Oz wants to save me for
the Turf Wars. So I am cooling it for a while here in North Fork. I will make it easy
for the next Duelmaster. If you challenged me, too bad, but you would have lost
anyway.
     Hugs and kisses,

                                             -- China Princess, Duelmistress

                                      SPY REPORT

It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit
back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. For every
winner there is a loser. Speaking of losers, lets take a look at EL CAMINO:HOT
SAUCE, who went down to 12th from 21st. Life is tough. Coming up with a solid 4-0-0
outing, SNOW FORT has advanced 7 places in the rankings. Hey everybody, watch out
for NEW WORLD ORDER, who flew up 21 points in the rankings after mashing MUCKY MORSE
like a melon. Keep your eye on this beast. And falling like a basher in the top ten
was TRIGGER HAPPY COP, who dropped 16 points after a disappointing (to say the least)
bout with SNOWPUNCH. Well, if ya don't shows up at the laundromat, ya can'ts wash
yer clothes. CHINA PRINCESS did not fight this week so hers title was forfeit. It's
a proud day for the SNOW FORT stable, as their warrior, BLIZZARD, ascended the
Duelmaster's throne. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a bigger
halberd!
Here is other news that is of note. And hey, kiddies, those of you who didn't
avoid BIG LAKE GROOVE, please raise you hand. Wow. Does NORTH FORK really have that
many liars? Okay, so I may not be funny, but catch DOWNWARD SPIRAL's act in the
arena. Those acrobats seem to be fairly deft at running from BIG LAKE GROOVE. Well
just about everybody wants a piece of FEATHER, who was this week's most challenged
warrior. Well, it looks like BRAINS wasn't happy with last turn's rank, so he went
for broke by challenging up 43 points. No guts, no glory. This week BRAINS 19-18-0
fought BLIZZARD 10-4-0 and in losing gained 1 points. I know several gladiators who
could go for a few fights like that. Getting lots of flowers from sympathetic fans
was SOUNDWAVE, who was successfully challenged by -ZERO who had a mere 16 points more
than SOUNDWAVE. Definition of petty: -ZERO subdued SOUNDWAVE, a mismatch of 16
points. Can any one out there say 'weasel'? Oh well, just saying ADDICTION will do.
It challenged 27 points down to trash THE WHIPPERSNAPPER. Definition of petty:
ADDICTION subdued THE WHIPPERSNAPPER, a mismatch of 27 points. Challenging down 27
points was LEAF. Pretty soon he'll be using two shields and selling 'T.P.: The only
way to clean up' pins. I just want to congratulate RAVAGE on beating LEAF. He
overcame his superior-ranked opponent and gained 21 points. Congrats! In a touching
display by a 'touched' warrior, TIN WOODMAN went after WENDY, who was higher by 21
points. Well, when the dust settled, TIN WOODMAN was beat by WENDY.
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). Congrats to ARMENIUS for revenging the
death of his teammate (but more importantly, feeding FEATHER a bit of dirt). Ask not
the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly buggers, eh?
Well, that wasn't too bad; Alarond told me that the people in NORTH FORK have no
sense of humor. Or maybe that they were senseless. Okay, so I may not be the
world's best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. Hasta la
bye-bye. (Loud choruses of 'Beat it, ya bum!')-- The Unknown Spymaster

                   I hate you in Seam, where earthquakes are felt;
I hate you in Snowbound, where the ice never melts.
                 I hate you in Mordant, where the games first began;
I hate you in Ardivent, arena of the Red Sands.
                 I hate you in Aradi and the smell of golden scrods;
I hate you in Blackstone with its countless tourney squads.
I hate you on the sands. I hate you in the stands.
I hate you near. I hate you far.
I hate you. I hate you. Wherever you are!
I hate you here. I hate you there.
                            I really hate you everywhere.
