Hammer had received a communique from the Consortium Elders that the entry fee from
the Killer Blades! had not as yet been received.
So, the Veteran Manager made it a point to stop by the Arena 47 Gladiatorial
Commission the next time he was in North Fork to hopefully resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, his partner in the upcoming Turf War 12, one Maximillian of the Natural B.
Killers 2, had also sent Hammer a message that although he appreciated that Hammer had
sent the registration fee for both of their teams, his old friend would much rather
anti-up his own share.
Interestingly enough, the Arena 47 Gladiatorial Commission had for some unknown reason
not forwarded the registration fees to the Consortium Elders.
So, in light of the wishes of his Turf War 12 partner, the decision was made by Hammer
to have the Gladiatorial Commission forward only the registration fee for his Aberrant
5 Blades, choosing rather to honor the request of his old friend, plus allocating the
fee not spent in behalf of his partner, to send Renewing The Mind to the Fall Tourney,
along with John Wayne Hammer who had recently been unretired in Home Guard.
As Hammer was about to leave the Arena 47 Gladiatorial Commission offices, another
clerk called out to the Veteran Manager that he had a dust covered communique from two
former North Fork graduated warriors who were languishing long-forgotten in Crysalis
Arena.

Howdy, North Fork, I have finally arrived. I think it says something tremendous about
all of you to let me sit on this throne. Did you know that I've had 21 fights in this
arena where I've tried to train skills, and managed to get 0 at the end of the fight.
Hopefully I won't have to put up with that for much longer.

Well, what are you looking at, NORTH FORK? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. If this keeps up, DOWNWARD SPIRAL,
you'll have to shine swords instead of use them. A drop of 9 in the rankings?
REIGNNCATSNDOGS turned their 1-0-0 turn into a 10th place rank in the listings this
turn. Any better than this, and you get put on hit lists. Tsk, tsk, RAINBOW beat
DRUDGE and DRUDGE lost 14 points. You're breakin' my heart. And it's out with the
old, in with the new, as STOOGE takes the Title and last week's bar tab from the old
Duelmaster. Heh, heh. I'm not in a very good mood today, but why am I telling you
this? You want to know what's new, don't you, NORTH FORK?
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. NORTH FORK, I am losing what little hope I had in you.
FAST FOOD the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And it
looks like ROYAL FLUSH avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be
losers, if you ask me. Hmph. Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, GALLIENUS was this
turn's most challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. I guess I can
give a little credit to BRAINS of LAND OF OZ for challenging up by 19 to GALLIENUS.
BRAINS won to get 101 points of recognition.
Ah, now we come to my favorite part, where we see all the guys who are dead and
gone, and get to see if their team cared. Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only
shines through use. Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Phlllt! Just had to do that before
I leave the fine city of NORTH FORK. I feel much better now. Glad to see the back
