DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
I am Duelmaster, and I am proud to be here. Some may ask, how did I get to this
point, and I shall explain.
When Sixshot matched up against me, he thought "He makes me lie down in green
pastures ..." when in fact he entered a poppy (papaver somniferum) field. Opium
poppies are quite powerful, and it did not take long for Sixshot to doze off happily.
His manager should have prepared him better, but, then, Sixshot might have missed
out on that happy smile on his face. I feel sorry for the guy, buy, you know, all's
fair in war and D2. So, I shall smile happily myself.
So my advice to all is to be careful. Know what you are getting into. And rather
than challenge, you should decide to avoid me.
See you in Flanders Field, or perhaps if you are unlucky, the arena.

SPY REPORT
Good day, in NORTH FORK a quiet thief gets rich, but a quiet spymaster gets
poor. So bring me ale and harken to my tidbits of news. Now keep the taverns open
late tonight, for there are sorrows to drown for N.E.R.D. LIFE, whose 0-0-0 this turn
dropped them by 6 into 9th. LAZY BOYZ stable has parlayed this turn's 4-1-1 into a 5
space move up the rankings. This brings them up to 4th place. Good work, guys! The
ABERRANT 5 BLADES guild has had a 4-1-0 turn and deserves to be watched in the
future. You never know where this kind of thing can lead. And let's see, VICTORIOUS
FAITH fought TRY ONE and gained 22 points and contributed to ABERRANT 5 BLADES'
4-1-0. BOOTLICKER has lost to FACE FIERY TRIALS, falling 21 points, while helping
make SATAN'S MINIONS a 2-2-0 turn. This turn POPPY challenged PILLAGE in what was
NORTH FORK's Title bout. The attempts to dethrone the Duelmaster have failed, and
POPPY remains NORTH FORK's top warrior for another turn. By the way, was that our
Duelmaster that I saw last night, cramped under the table at The Dripping Blade?
Oriental wise man once say, 'Hiding behind shields prevents proper sun tanning.'
Inscrutable, but true. LAND OF OZ has cause to stand tall, as they were NORTH FORK's
most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to beat. And avoiding LAND
OF OZ more than any other team we find DARQUE FORCES. NORTH FORK, are we going to
accept, or respect this sort of thing? Well, sports fans, take notice that FRENZY
from DARQUE FORCES was NORTH FORK's most challenged warrior this turn.
We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and
shave it close? FAST FOOD has lost WHOPPER to the arena in the sky, but they don't
seem to be worried. What do you expect from 9-21-0? Congratulations go out to
DARQUE FORCES, with APEFACE revenging a bloodfeud against GABRIEL of LAZY BOYZ. We'd
like to remind certain teams not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who
you are; and it's considered rude.

to fight bravely. Always good to rest in NORTH FORK, but never good to wear out my

Name Change-o-Rama -- Final Update
The gladiators looked around at the Commission's administrative office on the
Isle of the Eye. They'd been here before. The standard boxy building, the scurrying
clerks, the... goats browsing on the landscaping. Not as many goats this time as
before, only three. One came over to Zeke (not his arena name) and nuzzled his
pockets. He scratched at the base of its floppy ears, lacking a snack to offer. He
looked at one of the clerks. "I thought you got rid of the goats last year," Zeke
said.
"These are new goats," the clerk said with a sigh. "They're going to be shipped
out next week." He looked hopeful. "They like you, could you stay until then?"
Zeke sighed. Minding three goats sounded more enjoyable than fighting in the
arena. "I'd have to ask my manager."

Snatching his parchment away from a very determined goat, who apparently thought
it was a tasty snack, Rodney quickly dipped his pen in ink and began to write. "It is
our pleasure and honor to note that sixty-seven gladiators and teams have elected to
change their names, supporting the contribution of goats to deserving people. With
the Commission's matching funds, this has purchased three goats--a good goat can't be
purchased for a copper, you know. The goats are already en route to their new homes,
where they will be--" He paused and thought about it. "--very welcome. We wish all
the best to the goats and their new owners."
TEAM AND CHARACTER MAINTENANCE SERVICE
As a service to all managers, we offer team and character maintenance. This
option allows you to make sure your team or selected warriors will never miss a turn!
Team Maintenance: This will cause all warriors on that team to fight every
turn; if it's an AD arena, any new warriors who arrive on that team will
fight the turn they arrive. In A.D. or in transfer arenas where you have
multiple teams, each individual team will need to be on Team Maintenance.
(The only exception is new warriors; they will not fight until you submit
an initial strategy for them.)
Character Maintenance: This will cause only that warrior to fight every
turn. If the character graduates or changes arenas, he/she/it will stay on
Character Maintenance.
In either case, you may submit strategy sheets for your warriors each turn, if
you wish. The Team/Character Maintenance will make sure your warriors fight each

Remember that challenges, avoids, and challenge/if challenged strategies will not
carry through from turn to turn. These sections are only used on the turn they are
entered. In order to continually challenge or avoid you will need to submit a
strategy sheet each time.
One other thing to remember about maintenance: Maintenance is not something
that you write on your turnsheet (like in demo tourneys). In order to add or remove
maintenance for a team or warrior, please send a note to Customer Service. If you
just write things like this on your strategy sheet, they may or may not get done.
Likewise, don't write it on your personal ads. Please, please, please put it on a
separate piece of paper with "Customer Service" written on the top. If you don't,
well, you can imagine.
