TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Sum a y'all done knowst me 'n mah Life Impact team. Yup. I jest done be sure I
saw suma y'all in that there Shadderspire Land. Ole Smitty sure did.
Fer yer records (Y'all keep um don'tchee?) this'n team done comed ahere from yon
81er. Weuns don transferred outta there fer, well, er, caus'n we's wanted to. Yup.
So we's here, not there. (Didja all git that?) Lemme innerduce mah Bud's, then
I hain'ta gonna say no more bout that. Acterally, I ain't sayin' no more no how cuz
mah riter done gonna say it. Yup.
LIFE IMPACTS -- A team of memories for the boss....
CANTEX -- the company that his Dad worked at for many years -- Cannelton Sewer Pipe
combined with Texas Sewer Pipe for the name -- The boss played around the kilns and
in the pipe yards in his youth
C.H.S. Cannelton High School -- none other. Go Bulldogs! (Currently the 2nd
smallest High School in the Indiana High School System.)
GRANDMA MILLER -- The grand lady Lillian, for whom one of the boss's daughters (Lily)
is named. The boss's number one place to stay and favorite person in his youth.
EXTRUSION -- His first real job, as a co-op Engineer was in thermoplastics extrusion
at Crescent Plastics. Paid a lot of college expenses during those years.
MRS. VAUGHN -- His favorite High School teacher of English, Literature, and Latin,
who once said to the boss "You are as cute as a speckled pup, but that's not half as
cute as you think you are." It wasn't a joke.
So there you have it. Smitty's opening comments, an introduction to the Team,
and my "thanks for having us here" and "Hi, Crip" statements. Be good.

The cold became deeper the farther they walked along the ridge. Petra Quord
shivered and moved closer to her nearest teammate, Fender Grale. There were times
when he spooked, her, because he was a golem. But he was also a reassuring presence.
A Lord Protector. A proven warrior. "Does it seem to you to be getting colder?" she
asked.
"The temperature has dropped five degrees since we stepped onto this path."
"Is that kind of weather change normal here?"
"I do not know," Fender admitted. "I have not studied weather." He tipped his
head back to look at the sky, which was clear except for glittering wisps of cloud.
The sun was pale and surrounded by a broken ring of light. He turned to look over
his shoulder along the ridge-line path. It snaked away behind them, dropping
downward, but not as fast as the temperature had dropped. "Cass, why is it colder
now?" he called.
At the head of the line, Cass Dolan glanced around, looked up, looked down on
either side of the knife-edge trail, and made gesture with his spear. Petra could
see his mouth move, but the wind was from behind her blowing toward Cass, and she
couldn't hear his words. Inglemort and Irina, both right behind him, jumped a little
and raised their weapons.
"Some kind of monster," Fender said. His hearing was better than hers. "Not a
bear." He raised his own weapon, a five-foot staff with a spearhead on either end.
"This will be a bad place if we have to fight."
Petra looked at the narrow path and the steep drops on each side. "I guessed
that. But at least it can only come at us from one end or the other."
"Unless it can fly," Fender said, as a shadow crossed the sun.
SPY REPORT
You elder fighters surely remember me. The younger ones may call me Olaf
Modeen. I return to SNOWBOUND once again! Woof! LIFE IMPACTS were a bunch of dogs
after OPEN SESAME got through with 'em! 2nd ain't so sweet as 1st! What's with
GOBERT HINNY? He actually beat LIFE IMPACTS' GRANDMA MILLER, and walked away with 18
more points from the fight. Apparently SNOWBOUND isn't filled with as many gutless
wonders as I thought. The Dreaded Duelmaster got 8 challenges this turn! SNOWBOUND
has a Duelmaster who doesn't sit back and get lazy. She Bloodfeuded DRUID'S GROVE's
EVALON ELKHORN (11-7-3), which should prove (ahem!) interesting. Try as he might,
EVALON ELKHORN wasn't good enough at persuading ADRIANNE to step down from the
Duelmaster's throne... I suppose you want to hear some rumors and dirty gossip about
your fellow fighters? Tough!
Speaking of cowardly avoiders and unfair challenges... The most avoided team
was DRUID'S GROVE. Management must be dealin', as the boys at OPEN SESAME ain't
reelin'! DRUID'S GROVE's mad!
Warriors of SNOWBOUND unite. You have only your games to lose! CASS DOLAN of
MIDDLE WAY 6 didn't know when to quit. When you've got a 9-23-0, that's a good sign.
Now he's dead. GOBERT HINNY of MIDDLE WAY 6 got 18 points for removing another young
punk. Tough luck, LIFE IMPACTS! Many a warrior has met his fate in a hungover
stupor. You young rapscallions, take note!
Well, I'm pretty much through. You guys need to get back practicing. All work
and no play makes Olaf a dull fighter. Work and play no fighter dull Olaf.
