DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
You cannot know how distracting it is to enter the arena against a monster
chanting, "Juice! Juice! Juice!" He came right for me and I was frightened and
tried to run away. He kept coming, though, and I knew I must face him, so I turned
and our weapons clashed together. Being quicker than him, I rushed to his side and
without thinking, thrust my dagger at the side of his head. I think we were both
shocked at this, for Assur has long trained me to not intentionally aim for someone's
head. I recovered my composure and made my next blow with much more precision. And
so the Beast fell and here I am on the throne of Tricorus.
In all probability, I will not be here next turn. Of Sea and Wind is the best
until someone proves otherwise. I have never beaten Mahaghal. And Nyarlathotep is
the most graceful warrior I've ever seen on the sands (though I've never set foot
outside Tricorus, so my experience is somewhat limited).
Why must I fight one of them? I don't want to.
-- Grapefruit
SPY REPORT
Well, what are you looking at, TRICORUS? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Now let's all watch DEATH CULT's heads
swell from their 3-1-0 this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big shots, big talk, big deal. Of
course, we're all terribly impressed to see HABU win a fight and gain 18 points,
terribly. Tsk, tsk, HABU beat WHEN and WHEN lost 15 points. You're breakin' my
heart. And it's out with the old, in with the new, as OF SEA AND WIND takes the
Title and last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. Kickbacks and
bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how else do you think some of these guys win their
fights? Skill? Ha!
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. What's the big D? QUESTIONS was the most avoided
team? Bunch of lily livered... grumble... mumble... curse... And it looks like
RAISING R'LYEH avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if
you ask me. Hmph. Ooh, I'm frightfully impressed, MAHAGHAL was this turn's most
challenged warrior. Watch that ego swell, sports fans. I notice NYARLATHOTEP
challenging down 40 points to fight MAHAGHAL, RAISING R'LYEH doubtless has some
rotten excuse for such an insult to honor. And sorry to say, NYARLATHOTEP bested
MAHAGHAL, leaving a bad feeling with the crowd. I think exploitive snob is the term
I'm looking for. I guess I can give a little credit to DEMAGOGUE of DEATH CULT for
challenging up by 21 to GALDOR O'HARE. DEMAGOGUE was slain to get 7 points of
recognition.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Not that I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad
to see BEAST and DEATH CULT at The Blue Dolphin Inn tonight celebrating their
bloodfeud victory over Y'HA-NTHLEI. Three down, and one turn to go for DARK HORSEMEN
to call in the bloodfeud against OF SEA AND WIND, else SAARVEGHAL is but small
history. We're all going to die in the end, so why worry if the fate catches up with
you sooner that later?
What does the TRICORUS arena have in common with the inns? It's just as
comfortable to sleep in either place. Ha ha ha ha! Just wait 'till next time I show
up here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Paste this one in your scrapbooks, you'll
need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens

Fruits Manager -- Yes, we've had our differences in the past for good reason. The
Amazons hold a great deal of resentment with what you've done, especially in light of
Grapefruit. The ladies actually believe your accomplishments are due to abject sheer
LUCK! We appreciate your attempt to extend a hand in friendship, but you should
consider the Amazons much closer to your enemy than any kind of friend. Don't expect
anything less from them other than trying to KILL your fighters, in friendly
competition of course.
Now then, your Grapefruit down-challenged by 14 points in order to get Olympia, so
don't try to explain it away like the whole thing was some kind of experiment; who
did you think would win? Duh!!
With all that said, let it be known that the real ENEMY of the Amazons (as well as
others, I suspect) in Tricorus is Raising R'Lyeh. That little band of illiterate
skum have pushed their pure luck in Tricorus to an unbearable level. They have been
getting away with a free hand in this arena for much too long, accounting for the
return of the Amazons to a large degree. Raising R'Lyeh? Besides being one of the
stupidest names ever seen, the real primary target for takedown by the Amazons are
these Raisin' freaks. Just need to get them into striking distance and we'll see how
they manage with some real competition. -- Amazon Elite
Answer of the week -- I am not a crook.
Jorja -- My bad. Obviously shows how much attention I pay. I read Dark Priestess
and assumed it was a renamed DA monster. The world is stable... I think it may have
been an honest mistake, though. Isn't Dark Priestess a DA monster in some arena? Or
maybe a Gate monster? -- Assur
WTB -- 2 wins. So close, and yet so far away. Dare I hope? -- Assur
Answer of the week from Jorja -- When I feel better.

WINTER FACE-TO-FACE IN SUNNY ARIZONA!
Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 14-16, 2011. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-894-7444), the same hotel as
last year by popular request. Room rates are $129.00 per night, 1-2 occupancy, which
includes full cooked breakfast, complimentary manager's reception (yes, really!), free
airport shuttle, free parking and free high speed internet. There's a fitness center,
jacuzzi, and pool. The rooms are blocked--please make your reservation by December 22
before the block is released! (This is prime season for Phoenix, and people have been
unable to book rooms because they waited too long.) Look for the tournament info
sheet and minioverviews some time in December. We hope you're all looking forward to
it and that we will see you there!
