Notes from the arena champ.
Duelmaster!? Well, I wasn't expecting that! Fresh off of a disappointing
tournament I come home, face off against a newly appointed Lord Protector (congrats
Skalvord!) and claim the throne. Now that is a pretty nice way to return to the old
arena.
Speaking of the arena, if the two Challenger Champs (who look kinda
tournamentish to me) return I might have a really nasty fight on my hands. But if
they stay away, it is back to the Horsemen. But neither Moondark or Hargerd look
bad, so that could be interesting also. As a whole, it would be nice if someone
other than just the Horsemen and my team showed up, but sometimes that is just how it
works.
And a title is a title. Say what you will, I still get to call myself
Duelmaster. And Skalvord still gets to call himself "Lord Protector." So it all
works out in the end.
But for now, I am proud to call myself,

Well, what are you looking at, TRICORUS? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Of course, we're all terribly impressed
to see PINK STREAKER win a fight and gain 17 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, BEER BELLY
beat KLARALLA and KLARALLA lost 9 points. You're breakin' my heart. And if variety
is the spice of life, TRICORUS may be getting bland, as ATOMIC PUNK stays top dog in
the city. The Silver Chalice, humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where
do they get this stuff? From TRICORUS' trash dumps?
Well, let's take a look at some more misdeeds of you miserable sword-boys.
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave
team is developing these kinds of weapons?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for

There was a line outside the Gladiatorial Commission's registry office. There
often was, but surely not now? Alarond the Scribe, who had drawn office duty today,
frowned at them.
A stocky, fit, moderately handsome gladiator stepped up to the counter. "I want a
name-change," he said. "How can I do my best known as," he shuddered, "'Dangling
Eyeball'? My name is Joe, and I want to use it."
A small and very shapely woman stepped up beside him. "And I am really tired of
being known as 'DA Bait'." She smiled, causing Alarond to sway where he stood. "I'd
like to be known as... Aphrodite, I think."
The others crowded forward, each advancing a claim, the babble of voice rising to
a roar, the crowd beginning to look like a mob--and every member of it armed and
dangerous.
Alarond raised his hands to quiet them, without much success. He raised his
voice, too. "We'll do it! A Name-Change-O-Rama, as soon as we can get the paperwork
lined up! Two or three months, maybe--"
The gladiators howled in protest at the delay.
"No, listen! The files here are HUGE, it will take time to get everything
straight. You've got to be patient. It WILL happen!"
