Aruak City:

Conversation in the Bulldog Inn stopped as the ground shifted slightly
underfoot, then resumed. A little faster, a little more shrill. There had been a
lot of earth tremors lately, and in one way, people were getting used to them.
Nobody rushed outside in alarm. Nobody talked about moving to some other area.
There was a betting pool on when the next tremor would occur.
But in another way, they weren't getting used to them at all. Earthquakes in
Aruak City were WRONG. In Seam, okay, if they were mild and didn't happen very often
(although lately they had been frequent and devastating). You expected strange earth
movements in Seam, because of the hot springs. Hot springs meant things like that
might happen. But not HERE.
"It's because of Krael rising," explained Thermodynamics, a gladiator from Point
passing through the city. "The balances are disturbed. You see, Krael came from the
bottom of the Trier, which is very cold. Therefore, some place else has to become
very hot to balance it." He paused and frowned. "Or maybe some other place has to
sink, a down to balance the new up, so to speak."
Adeolar, listening to him, sighed with exasperation. "It isn't that," she
muttered. "Oh, maybe the bit about some other area sinking to balance the rising of
Krael--I've got people watching for that, all along the coast. But the 'hot and
cold' business--"
"Let him talk," Kennelworth said, gauging the mood of the crowd. "It's an
explanation people can accept, and they'll feel less alarmed by it. We don't want a
riot, and there's nothing they can do about things right now, so...?" He looked back
at the flame-haired manager. "There isn't anything, is there?"
Adie grimaced. "I don't know. I don't think stopping Khaldren in Zorpunt will
be enough to stop what's happening, now. The spell he started has taken on a life of
its own. I'm trying to discover a counterspell--that won't make things worse in some
other way! But until then, just...treat the symptoms. Fight the monsters, help the
people displaced," she shrugged, "the obvious things. And keep arena deaths down,
because the blood feeds the spell." She began to twist a lock of hair around her
finger, tugging on it thoughtfully. "I've been thinking about a counterspell. The
original magic came from Krael, however it got to the present. Maybe the
counterspell can be found there."
"Searching Krael for the spell that would sink it again will be dangerous," the
old innkeeper and manager warned. "The reports say that there are people there who
are ready to defend it."
"That's what gladiators are for, isn't it?" Adie asked. "Protecting Alastari.
Stopping this spell that is bringing the past to life falls under that heading."

Iaye:

Great Dane looked over the improvised barricade that divided the island of Iaye
from the risen city of Krael and whistled. "You said they were regular people," he
commented, scanning the muddy approach. "Those are, I guess they're zombies."
Goff shrugged. "I guess the regular people I saw when the city first rose were
wizards, at least some of them. And there must have been plenty of dead around for
them to turn into zombies. Damn. How do you kill something that's already dead?"
Great Dane glanced back at the people straggling toward the barricade from
Iaye's side. "That isn't going to be our first problem. The first one is, how do we
get our defenders to stand fast against them? Those are fishermen, farmers,
shopkeepers. You think they're going to fight zombies?"
     "Gladiators, too," Goff protested.
"Not enough, if the wizard in charge of those zombies knows anything about
battle."

                                 DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
                             Notes from the arena champ.

Well, now, this is really quite nice. I've had four Duelamster tussles and have
been on bottom twice and on top twice. I don't know which has been more fun. That
Veteran Mercenary surely was an experienced fellow. And I thought I knew it all?!
Now I have a couple of new tricks to show my next guests (wink) at The Flower Shoppe.
Who's visiting next? Salvation? He's gotten his fill of me before. (grin) String
Bean? Rendor? Come one; come all! That's my motto.
When we all come back from The Mailer -- hopefully we all come back -- perhaps
things will heart up in Fratsfa. We'll do all we can to heart it up! Oh, yeah
Verbena. Say, would you like to know the "figures" of all us beaties? Of course you
would! Here are the barest (giggle) of facts:

ST -- 10, 11, 12, 14, 17
CN -- 3, 8, 13, 16, 20
SZ -- 9, 11, 12, 13, 14
WT -- 3, 14, 14, 16, 21
WL -- 15, 15, 16, 17, 17
SP -- 3, 4, 4, 6, 9
DF -- 6, 10, 11, 15, 21

So, what are you people? Legs? Or do you go for firm, top-heavy babes? I'll
bet there are a few buttock worshippers around. Well, come on over to The Flower
Shoppe to visit us! Just tell Lady Fern your faves, and ecstasy can be yours.

                    See you there,
                         Hugs and kisses,

                              Grim Gladiola

                                      SPY REPORT

Good day, friends and fiends, welcome to your friendly neighborhood spyreport.
I doubt FRATSFA will ever be the same. The MIDDLE WAY 8 guild has had a 4-1-0 turn
and deserves to be watched in the future. You never know where this kind of thing
can lead. And let's see, LENA KORIL fought RUTHLESS JAYWALKER and gained 18 points
and contributed to MIDDLE WAY 8's 4-1-0. MINILI ORH has lost to SEVERITY, falling 7
points, while helping make MIDDLE WAY 8 a 4-1-0 turn. The attempts to dethrone the
Duelmaster have failed, and GRIM GLADIOLA remains FRATSFA's top warrior for another
turn. Tell me, is nothing sacred? I have heard from unimpeachable sources that The
Victory Tavern uses trolls in their stew. Talk about gristle!
He who challenges well, fights well. He who avoids without cause, shall lose
for good reasons. My mama told me that one. MIDDLE WAY 8 has cause to stand tall,
as they were FRATSFA's most avoided team. A smart manager knows this is a team to
beat. And avoiding MIDDLE WAY 8 more than any other team we find FLOWER GIRLS.
FRATSFA, are we going to accept, or respect this sort of thing?
We only live a short time in this world, so why not take a sharp blade, and
shave it close? Whatever bright future JAMESTOWN may have had, it's all history now.
The manager of OHIO has lost a promising 3-1-0 warrior. We'd like to remind certain
teams not to rob the graves of their enemies. You know who you are; and it's
considered rude.
Thought for the day, a new sword shines bright, but the notched sword sings the
sweetest. Always good to rest in FRATSFA, but never good to wear out my welcome.
Look for me in future turns. Until you see my quill in FRATSFA again, farewell--
Alarond the Scribe

Lady Fern -- I am deeply sorry to have brought such a bright warrior to an end... It
was not my intention to have my warriors kill. Obviously, you invest much time in
your gladiators and any such loss is a sore point. If you wish to seek revenge, I
shall not have Bexley avoid you in any way. He killed again, this past month... He
might be needing an attitude adjustment. -- Berylstar

Rendor Quil -- Cool! Come and visit me at The Flower Shoppe and I'll let you have
your way with me--again and again and again. (wink) -- Insolent Iris

Managers and warriors of Fratsfa -- May all you have done gloriously in The Mailer.
Four of my girls were there to "show off their wares." -- Lady Fern

String Bean Jean -- Was that a "wham, bam, thank you, ma'am?" I loved it! I have
more in mind. -- Horrid Holly

All -- May specal at The Flower Shoppe--two for the price of one! Come one. Come
all. -- Lady Fern

Veteran Mercenary -- Thanks for being there. -- Grim Gladiola

Tealin Sali -- Girls just wanna have fun! I did! I have to admit I go in for
nibbling. Definitely the guys love it! Sometimes the gals. Stay cool. -- Nasty
Nasturtium

Quilee Parr -- Visit me at The Flower Shoppe and the bathtub trick is all yours.
(wink) -- Horrid Holly

Bexley and Ohioans -- I had hoped for a word from you about Lethal Larkspur. Perhaps
we must, Andorian Honor aside, show that she was a valuable sister? Yes, we must. --
Lady Fern

Insolent Iris -- You just get better and better. That was a great, um, encounter we
had. -- Rendor Quil
P.S. Not the one in the arena, the OTHER one.

Torment -- That was a disappointing outcome. I wish we could do it over. -- Ghost of
Quilee Parr

Nasty Nasturtium -- I hurt so much right now, I could DROWN in a bathtub. Gotta pass
on that today. -- Tealin Sali

Steubenville -- Odd sort of name. A family one? -- Lena Koril

Stout Heart -- Yes, well, hang in there. -- Minili Orh

Has anyone seen it in print that the "Goat" is leaving the "Cartel"? There were
some diplos to the effect of a special branch of the Cartel being formed, like secret
societies, governmental agencies and alliances certain agendas are developed. To
obtain the desired effect of any agenda only key personnel can be used. The "Goat"
is "Cartel" so until you see it with me announcing that I am not Cartel, remember,
"The Agenda of the Core is for you to fight for." I hope this stops the confusion.
