Hi, all.

I am Le Pentarque, a French Duel old-timer, but still struggling in the US Duel.
For this contest I tried to call the souls of my most beloved and lost guys from
Paris, used five useless weaklings found in Fratsfa's streets and blessed them with
the fond memories of my first team ever, created about twenty years ago, a nice bunch
of 10-10-10 bright well-balanced kids, Blood and Guts!, which later became La
Pentarchie and dominated Aruak.
For the first one, Igor Malmort, I invoked the almighty Igor, a crafty maul
specialist, one of the very first. He will try to bring as much glory as Igor did,
leaving for AD with 50 fights.
For the second one, Tonnelle, I wanted my best ever, the splendid invincible Hel
Morgenstern, but, well, I somehow failed to channel that much power, and I got the
soul of Steak Tartare.... I wanted him to be Tonnerre (Thunder), he came back
Tonnelle (Barrel); good luck to him.
The third one, Pas de Quartier, was the sturdy 27-23-6 Frater Pilum, a stubborn
belly-piercer. His name means No Mercy, so if he wins a fight one day, he is
supposed to be dangerous.
The fourth one, Bob le Canadien, was so pathetic I could only put in him the
spirit of Lev l'Anemique, a poor soul. He will try to have more fun in this life.
Finally the last one, Aubin l'Aurouge, a wise guy, wanted to be Romuald
Bethunes, the final head-cutter, but I'm afraid this frail little thing is not going
to bring many victories.
So here they are, they are not very good and very young, but I love them as I
loved my lost ones.
     Le Pentarque

Meet Incarnations, a team of bandits, thugs and misfits. I used to run
Incarnations here a long, long time ago, but as the experienced warriors graduated,
other warriors wouldn't answer the call to replace them. Sadly without a full roster
I had to devote my attention else where. Then I heard this rumor, there was a
contest starting here, so I decided to give it another go.
Now let me introduce the warriors the make up Incarnations. First we have
Graendal. Not much to say about her except that she is very old. She is probably
the only warrior I know that wears her armor right over her dress. She thinks the
extra padding will add to her AC. The sad thing is, she doesn't take a shower after.
We think, that with each passing day, she grows more and more senile.
Second is Twist and Shout. I think she is to young for this, but I had to fill
a spot on the team. With that said, don't let her age fool anyone for she has
several scars and has had numerous broken bones. I figured she must have gotten
them from somewhere.
Third is Kirra. I found her sleeping in a back alley. She smelled of ale and
vomit. To make a long story short, I offered her a place to stay and as much food as
she could eat, if she would fight for me. As expected, she was desperate enough to
So we were walking to Fratsfa and still I was wondering where I would get two
more warriors willing to fight for me. Then up ahead on the road, there were two men
fighting. I had Graendal, Twist and Shout and Kirra break them apart. I asked them
both if they had anything better to do with their time. When they both shook their
heads, I put the proposal out to them and they accepted. They introduced themselves
as Two-step and Step-up!!.
So here it is, my team. I have no idea how they will do, but they have all
given me their word that they will try their best. After all, they could very well
die in the arena.

                              Musings of a Philosopher,

In a quiet part of Fratsfa a new club was having its grand opening. While the
club was being built, its owner let the various powers within the city know that it
was neutral ground. He told them that their wars, rivalries, and other assorted
nastiness would end at his door, and those who didn't respect this would be dealt
with. Since the club's owner was a Chaos Mage of considerable skill, the powers
decided it would be wise (and cut down on collateral damage) to respect his club's
neutrality and warned their people accordingly. The club's name was The Exile's Rest
and because of all this, business was good.
The owner of The Exile's Rest stood on his private balcony watching the activity
in the club's main room. He had changed greatly since he'd last been in Fratsfa.
His eyes were once pools of iridescent color, now their only color was the gray of an
angry thundercloud. His long hair had been cut and he now shaved his head daily.
His old robes of royal purple had been exchanged for modern clothing of the deepest
red. He now called himself the Expatriate and he was having a bad day.
"The first turn of the contest and you fools couldn't win a single fight," he
said without turning.
"If you would just give me a chance to explain," Young Grim began. The elven
warrior was in the most trouble and he knew it.
"Be silent," the Expatriate commanded. He finally turned to face the warriors
seated at the table of his private dining room.
"Maybe I should rename you the Idle Threats," he said, watching their reactions
closely. Old Grim stood the insult stoically, as he'd expected it. The elf woman
had lived a long time before becoming a gladiator. Simple and straightforward, she
would become a great warrior.
Young Grim began to look even more worried. The Convincian was smart enough to
know he didn't have too many more chances to start winning. Black Viper, the
Legion's other elf, looked angry, then ashamed, and finally resolute, all in the span
of three seconds. The Expatriate wasn't worried about him, he would shape up if he
lived long enough.
Vile just stared into space. The orcish woman wasn't the smartest being, but
her unbelievable coordination would make up for it, for now. Little Death was new
and therefore an unknown. Shee looked worried but didn't need to. The young half
elf had shown skill and amazing endurance in her fight against Heathen's monster.
She would do better. He held their gazes for a few moments longer then continued.
"You will start winning or I will find warriors who will," he warned.

                                  *Heathen's Cafe*

As the generalized theory, I believe that when you use a tactic it gives a bonus
to the area of the chosen tactic, but at the expense of all other areas (skills).
Except in the case of favorites. Using a favorite tactic allows your warrior to gain
the bonus without incurring the minuses in other areas.
As far as misuse of tactics, I personally try not to use a tactic unless it is
well suited and rarely even then. However, I like most other managers, have
experimented around with tactics. I have found that when I misused a tactic, whether
on purpose or my accident, I usually lost eight out of ten times. (Unless I was
lucky or had a huge style advantage.)
The only style that I have had difficulties running tactics with is the Slasher.
It may just be my luck or even my design, but when I run them open I have much more
success. To me though, the success of your warrior running a tactic that is well
suited, depends on the warrior it is fighting. (Style, tactic, etc....) I hope
other managers also answered these questions. I love to share ideas, knowledge, and
theories. It is what this game is all about.
I want to thank Heathen for bringing his Heathen's Cafe to Fratsfa. I feel it
is important to others as it is to myself to stay active in our Dm community with
such conduits as "Heathen's Cafe"!

Welcome to all you Quest junkies. This is the first turn report and I have to
say the competition was nothing short of fierce. Crip and his Otto's Parts stable
tied with Heathen's Odin's Chosen with 12 pts. However, Crip is in first place due
to his highest warrior having 90 recognition pts to Heathen's highest at 18 rec pts.
This will be my chance to clarify the situation of a tie. Evidently as you can see,
the stable with the highest recognition leader wins the tie. I apologize yet again
for not realizing the need for a tie breaker system from the beginning and I feel
this is the fairest way. Dark Raiders and their manager Fangthane were just short (2
pts) of making it a three way tie.
Blood & Guts! came in with a good showing and their scout Tonnelle put
Springborne Fair's scout in an early grave, and gained +5 points for the newly
amended scout kill points, while giving Still the Distilled and his crew the -5 for
the scout death. Better luck next turn, Still. Don't trip, there's still many
fights in the future of this contest to make up! (No pun intended!)
We had Tripwire declare his Demons and Devils stable this turn, but won't be
active 'til T-208. It feels good to have the famous, or should I say infamous,
Tripwire among our ranks. As I stated in my last report, "The quality of competition
is looking good." Azrael and his Fallen or Black/Red klk declared this turn also.
However, he hasn't declared a scout, so 'til he does he won't be listed among the
Managers remember, if you haven't submitted your team/manager history, then get
them in by T-209. It's worth the 25 bonus points.
Until next time, good luck in your Quest and may your enemies' blood flow
freely. (Unless I am your enemy, then let's just be nice to enemies! grin)

In case of a tie, the stable with the highest recognition leader will win the
tie breaker.

Here I'll answer Ghab's questions from last cycle's p-ads. "What happens if a
Champion or Scout graduates? Do you get to declare another?
1) If a Champion graduates, then you can name his replacement your Champ, or whoever
you like as long as it is their first fight in the contest. You may name any warrior
as your replacement Scout as long as that warrior is not your Champion. If your
Scout graduates, then you must name your scout within two turns or you will stop
being scored. I figured two turns to be more than sufficient to find, or figure out
your replacement. And two turns only because of the chance the replacement might
take its time showing up.
I hope this makes sense. If anyone needs further clarification let me know, and
I will happily clarify anything that I can.

I plan on leaving the list of requirements, scoring formula, and prize printed
throughout the contest for easy reference.

1) Only ONE team per manager entered in the contest. Only one active team in
    Fratsfa during the contest, PERIOD!
2) Only one TP on your team at a time. (If it dies, then you may replace it.)
3) You must declare (1) warrior as your team scout. Points will not be scored until
    a scout is declared!!!
4) You do not need (3) three warriors in the initiates class to compete. FE does
not play a factor for eligibility!!!!
5) If you bloodfeud, you must use a different warrior each time to score the FB
points. (If a warrior is used twice, he will only be awarded the points for the
win or point subtracted for the loss on the second bloodfeud.
6) You must declare your team in the p-ads to be entered.
7) A champion and scout cannot be the same warrior.
8) Champions are not required (manager's choice). Champions must be declared on
their first fight of the contest!

Now to the scoring formula:
Wins + Kills - Losses = Base score
Base score + Variant score = Total score

Win = +1 pt
Kill = +1 pt
Loss = -1 pt

Scout Win = +2 pts
Scout Loss = -2 pts
Scout death = -5 pts
Champion win = +3 pts
Champion loss = -3 pts
Stylemaster for turn = +1 pt
Most avoided team = +2 pts
Successful Bloodfeud = +2 pts
Failed Bloodfeud = -2 pts

     Let's say (A) team goes 3 - 2 - 2 = 3 wins + 2 kills - 2 losses = + 3 base
score. Team (A)'s champion won (+3 pts) and is style master for the turn (1 pt).
His scout lost (-2 pts) for a total turn score of +5 pts.
     Now, let's say team (B) goes 1 - 4 - 1 = 1 win + 1 kill - 4 losses = - 2 pts
base score. His scout won (+2 pts) and the scouts win was a successful bloodfeud (+2
pts). So, the total points for this turn would be +2 pts. (There was no champion on
this team.)
+25 bonus points will be given to managers that submit a brief history (5
paragraph minimum) including manager alias and stable name by the contest's third
turn. These points will be added to the team by T-210.

and the rhythm of the drum beats brought him closer to the shore of his homeland of
As he watched the land that he loved draw near, he was overwhelmed with a rush
of memories that had brought him to this place in his life.
Being the true Delarquan that he was, Muscle Bum had decided to seek his fortune
and adventure in the distant lands of Lirith Kai. It had been almost two years since
he had decided that he needed to get out of the arena and away from his old ties, and
try his hand at something new. What a mistake that had been.
He had traveled for many days to reach the lands he had dreamed about since he
was a small child, having heard the tales from foreign gladiators in his father's
stables. All his young life he had dreamed of adventure in a foreign land seeking
fame and fortune.
He would had had them too if he had just been a little more careful on that
last load. Well, that was another life in another time and place. Maybe one day he
would return, but for now, he must help his friend in his quest for his fame and
fortune in the arena.
Bob "Stinky" M was that friend. He had made Stinky a promise that if he helped
him escape from the dungeons of his employer that he would put Stinky in his stable
and help him to gain his fortune.
He heard tell of a contest in Fratsfa that would be just the place to start.
First he must finish finding the rest of his stable and get them trained, then he
would need to contact Sir Toker of the Desolate Empire, with all his information. Oh
well, so much to do, what should he call his stable? He thought...no, he knew, "Uni-
Whores." That was it.
Well, he'd better get to it....

                                        More next time,
                                                  Muscle Bum

The sounds of the swords clashing and men screaming filled the air. It was the
Catiwomps' third charge of the day. Not yet at its peak, the blazing sun promised a
long day of bloody battle. The defenders of Niscraw weren't sure how much longer
they could hold the walls of their city.
An outlander stood on the third battlement, hurling fireballs and bolts of
lightning into the enemy's battle lines below. Though he could wipe out the entire
Catiwomp army with a single spell, Wasby the Great wanted to observe the fighting
prowess of the Nescrean's from the planet Terra.
Wasby had been told by his close friend and alliancemate Toker that the warriors
of Niscraw were unsurpassed throughout the multiverse. Toker had once been the
general of the Niscrean army, before being teleported to Alastari by Goat. Indeed,
the elite fighters, called Valor Knights, were both fearless and valiant in battle.
After the fifth charge, Wasby had seen enough. Calling upon the wrath of the
ancients, Wasby cast a hellball, which bathed the Catiwomp army in a shimmering light
of power. There was no sound, but when the flash ended, the only remains were
charred lumps and ash.
Wasby sent for his chosen knights, who he planned to recruit for his newest
arena team in Fratsfa. He told them of the honor and glory to be fond in the
Fratsfan arena. He told them of the Quest for the Best, which would pit them against
the mightiest fighters in Andoria. He also planted the seed of an empire in their
minds--an empire which would spread throughout the land. Wasby offered them places
of honor in the Desolate Empire.
Fifteen knights answered the call, along with Lord Jon Snow, who was to lead the
force. They traveled through the portal with Wasby back to his newly built
guildhouse outside of Fratsfa. There they trained for the arena, where the chance of
glorious victory called to them.

The Bronze Knights answered the call of Fratsfa's Quest for the Best.

                             Notes from the arena champ.

It was a shock to find myself at the top of the heap! I didn't think I would be here
so early in my career and, quite honestly, I thought another member of my stable
would hold it before I did.

Horrid Holly could probably withstand a horse being dropped on her! It took a lot to
get the old girl to go down, which in the end I believe she enjoyed.... My challenge
goes out to the top contender, Cauliflower Ears.

Hopefully, I will be up here on the turn to follow this report.

See you on the sands,

Torment, Assassin Nation

                                      SPY REPORT

If you were disturbed from your beauty rest only to have to watch a bunch of
FRATSFA brutes like you, you'd be grouchy, too. Later days, THE CHURCH, since OTTO'S
PARTS took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. ASSASSIN NATION
turned their 4-1-1 turn into a 6th place rank in the listings this turn. Any better
than this, and you get put on hit lists. Now let's all watch ODIN'S CHOSEN's heads
swell from their 4-1-0 this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big shots, big talk, big deal.
Middle of the road, ODD ODIUS ORCS, middle of the road; you'll get no good words from
me, until you get better, or worse. Break a leg. Of course, we're all terribly
impressed to see SKJOTT HIFNA win a fight and gain 18 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk,
SKJOTT HIFNA beat OLD GRIM and OLD GRIM lost 14 points. You're breakin' my heart.
And it's out with the old, in with the new, as COLLAPSED LUNG takes the Title and
last week's bar tab from the old Duelmaster. Heh, heh. The Victory Tavern, humph!
I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get this stuff? From FRATSFA's
trash dumps?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. ODIN'S
CHOSEN, I suppose you'll be glad to know you were this turn's most avoided team.
Care to know who is the most afraid of you? And it looks like ICELANDERS avoided
them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers, if you ask me. Hmph. Ooh,
I'm frightfully impressed, GORD THE ROGUE was this turn's most challenged warrior.
Watch that ego swell, sports fans. Now look at this. MALICE challenged down 18
against ASSASSIN NATION's SEVERITY. What a weasel! MALICE was overcame by SEVERITY!
Ok, MALICE want to fight my grandmother next turn? Huh? GNARLY GNOME was challenged
by one of ASSASSIN NATION's warriors this turn, with MAYHEM having a lead of 16
points going into the fight. Question now is, will FRATSFA accept this sort of tacky
behavior? MAYHEM beating GNARLY GNOME. The insult, the....yech!
Death and Taxes. The less death I see, the more it taxes my patience. Let's
see if anyone's dead or dying. And what a stunning loss we have here, boys and
girls, NASTY NASTURTIUM of FLOWER GIRLS has added the final loss to hers 7-5-0. Tee
hee! Not that I'll be buying the drinks, but I'll be glad to see LIST KRAPTR and
ICELANDERS at The Victory Tavern tonight celebrating their bloodfeud victory over
PSYCHOSIS. Titanium shields and bamboo daggers, guess what brave team is developing
these kinds of weapons?
I was about to buy a new quill pen the other day, but some fighter took it for
an epee. Forgive me for writing with a dagger. Just wait 'till next time I show up
here, I won't be so nice! So nyaaah! Glad to see the back of this place-- Snide

Torment -- Whoa, you are a pro. The pain you dished out! I felt all the way to the
tip of my toes! And the way you handle all those big tools! You are my every dream.
I will let you be on top anytime! But I want more! Do you? -- Horrid Holly

Garble Goblin -- You made my day, Hon. I like you nasty types. Now you come back
for more, you hear? -- Nasty Nasturtium

Basher Gamuk (as opposed to Basher Zazluk) -- You aren't really a basher are you?
And you aren't really gamuk are you? But you are a winner and you did put it to me.
Next time, visit me at The Flower Shoppe and you can really run gamuk and put it to
me. Know what I mean? (wink) -- Volatile Verbena

Now, Crip, just because you have a girlfriend is no reason not to be visiting us at
The Flower Shoppe. Bring her along! -- Lady Fern (waiting expectantly)

Dark Knight Toker -- You just go right ahead and drool all you want. And you become
a regular at The Flower Shoppe, OK? I have heard you are quite the swordsman in the
arena. Does that hold true elsewhere? (wink) Don't let my lovely ladies down. --
Lady Fern

Copied from the Fratsfa Gazette ...... "...have you noticed all the knights going in
and out of The Flower Shoppe? Red ones, and Bronze, and Black and Silver and Knights
everywhere! We wonder what they are doing? Buying flowers for their ladies?
Practicing? Or.......?" -- The Flower Girl Scribe

I can't make many comments on the fights, as I'm still waiting for the last two turns
(!). Anyway, I got the results on the net and saw Tonnelle killed a scout. I can't
say I'm sad, but I hope he was not too good and that you will get a nice replacement.
-- Le Pentarque, waiting

And Sorrow is not a gentleman.

All -- As expected, I indeed do declare Incarnations entered into this fine contest.
Step-up!! seems to be the only one that wants to be the scout, so I guess I have no
choice, BUT to make it so. -- Papaiz

All -- Sands-rust. The contest just started and we're in last place. I'm
comfortable already. -- Still
P.S. Due to Grimalkin's untimely demise, Origami Ork (#3091) is designated Scout for
the Springborne Fair.

Cauliflower Ears -- Well fought. Got the jump on you, but just couldn't land the
blow! -- Mutilate

Horrid Holly -- It's taken me less strokes to fell a tree! Nice learns and to a
better fight next time. -- Torment

Gangrene -- Well...that was no fun. I can see already I'll have to change my
strategy next time we meet. -- Severity

I declare Odd Odious Orcs entered in the DM 52 contest. -- Slugbait

Abhorrent Ant is my scout. -- Slugbait

Toker -- I am here. My team is The Fallen, should run this turn. My scout is
Graendel. My champion is Badda Bang. Should have my story next turn. -- Azrael, the
Lord of the Fallen, Angel of Wrath

Tripwire -- Good to see you here. Now with you, Crip, Lady Fern and the other
prestigious managers that have shown up, I just hope to survive, let alone win!
(grin) Good luck and I hope you enjoy this contest! -- Toker, Quest co-host

Az -- Hope your team makes it this turn and declares a scout. I wouldn't want you to
show up and not be scored for failure to name your scout! Where's the rest of the
klk? Will they be showing up? No matter, it's good to have you here. Good luck! --
Toker, Quest co-host

Still -- I have given you a little leeway on renaming your scout due to some
replacements not showing up on time. You may name a current warrior your scout, as
long as it isn't your champion, or name your replacement as scout. However, you must
name it by T-209! -- your Quest co-host, Toker

Lady Fern -- Loved your spot. I must admit, if I wasn't a married man, I would be
your best customer! -- Toker
P.S. Your +25 bonus pts will be added to your score on T-210.

Ghab -- Good showing last turn. Just do me a favor and stay away from my warriors.
And please tell Crip and Heathen to do the same. I would, but I think you might get
more favorable results. -- Dark Knight Toker, Silver Knights (361)

Reverend Bob -- What's up? No sermons last turn! I always thought Reverends were
vocal people. It looks that you and I were tied last turn in pts with me gaining the
advantage due to rec pts! Not too bad for a start to the contest, but if either of
us plan on walking away with the Ultimate Victor prize, we better step it up. -- Dark
Knight Toker

Toker -- I, Muscle Bum, will declare "Uni-Whores" in the contest. I declare that Bob
"Stinky" M. is my SCOUT and that J "Army" Moore is my CHAMPION. My team spotlight
should be printed this turn, so please credit my stable the points. -- M.B.

Goat -- Well I guess we will meet in the sand. It has been a long time. Best of
luck in your match unless it's me and you. -- M.B.

Skullagrim -- You look like $*#($@!, and you both stink too. So take a shower and
meet me on the sands, if you still dare.

All -- I am The Muscle Bum and I am from the Delarquan region of Alastari, so this is
the closest you will get to fair treatment from me. Expect huge down challenges,
bloodfeuds, lots of killing and whatever else I feel like. Hah ha hahah. Wow this
is going to be fun. All these Andorians want to be Chimlevtal's and honor Crap...
ups. Yes did I say that out loud?! Oh well!
