Hello, everyone! I hope the holiday seasons were the best they could be for
each and every one of you and you were able to spend them with those you love the
most!!!
Well, this contest sure seems to be heating up what with Crip and Lady Fern hot
on my heels. Ghab over in the corner panting and Fangthayne quietly maintaining a
top position--everyone had better be on top of their game!
I wanted to say thanks to Expatriate and Lady Fern for offering input on tactics
--I guess I am one of them who does not understand tactics, Lady Fern, as I tend to
run open more often than not, even in desperation! I think it all goes back to
design: if you create a warrior that has the skills to maximize their style's
natural strengths, then you don't need to use tactics. A general rule of thumb is
that skilled warriors can run open effectively while unskilled must make use of
tactics to succeed--though this rule often does not apply to specific challenges or
even to being challenged.
I do agree with Expatriate that a tactic should not be dismissed simply because
it is unorthodox for a particular style--I once had a slasher who would parry quite
well when running the parry tactic and won. A couple extra fights when he would
riposte out of a parry and steal the initiative! Experimentation is the key to
success in Duelmasters as far as I'm concerned!!
Ok, this turn's question: How effective are a warrior's favorite rhythms in the
basic arenas and should the warrior run them exclusively if they are known?

Questers Contest!
As always, being prone to mistakes as I am, I goofed the whole commission error
concerning Le Pentarque, and The Lovely Lady Fern. Le Pentarque will keep the points
and Lady Fern will receive the points that were mistakenly taken away from Volatile
Verbena. I do want to apologize to Lady Fern and thank her for her understanding and
not withholding any special services that I have come to overly enjoy! (grin)

Questions!
There were no real questions this last turn that I saw. If there are any you

I plan on leaving a list of requirements, scoring formula, and prizes printed
throughout the contest for easy reference.
Requirements!
1) Only ONE team per manager entered in the contest. Only one active team in
Fratsfa during the contest, PERIOD!
2) Only one TP on your team at a time. (If it dies, then you may replace it.)
3) You must declare (1) warrior as your team scout. Points will not be scored until
a scout is declared!!!
4) You do not need (3) three warriors in the initiates class to compete. FE does
not play a factor for eligibility!!!!
5) If you bloodfeud, you must use a different warrior each time to score the FB
points. (If a warrior is used twice, he will only be awarded the points for the
win or point subtracted for the loss on the second bloodfeud.
6) You must declare your team in the p-ads to be entered.
7) A champion and scout cannot be the same warrior.
8) Champions are not required (manager's choice). Champions must be declared on
their first fight of the contest!
Now to the scoring formula:
Wins + Kills - Losses = Base score
Base score + Variant score = Total score
BASE SCORE POINTS:
Win = +1 pt
Kill = +1 pt
Loss = -1 pt
VARIANT SCORE POINTS:
Scout Win = +2 pts
Scout Loss = -2 pts
Scout death = -5 pts
Champion win = +3 pts
Champion loss = -3 pts
Stylemaster for turn = +1 pt
Most avoided team = +2 pts
Successful Bloodfeud = +2 pts
Failed Bloodfeud = -2 pts
Let's say (A) team goes 3 - 2 - 2 = 3 wins + 2 kills - 2 losses = + 3 base
score. Team (A)'s champion won (+3 pts) and is style master for the turn (1 pt).
His scout lost (-2 pts) for a total turn score of +5 pts.
Now, let's say team (B) goes 1 - 4 - 1 = 1 win + 1 kill - 4 losses = - 2 pts
base score. His scout won (+2 pts) and the scouts win was a successful bloodfeud (+2
pts). So, the total points for this turn would be +2 pts. (There was no champion on
this team.)
+25 bonus points will be given to managers that submit a brief history (5
paragraph minimum) including manager alias and stable name by the contest's third
turn. These points will be added to the team by T-210.

SPY REPORT
It's me, The Unknown Spymaster, back to give you this week's Spy Report. Sit
back in your seats and we'll have more fun than a barrel of Zontanis. Say good-bye
to OTTO'S PARTS, as they are pushed from the coveted top team spot by the BLOOD AND
GUTS! stable. A stormcloud is brewing over the OTTO'S PARTS guildhouse. Rumor says
any more weeks like this ones 1-4-0 may send the team to the Dark Arena. Coming up
with a solid 5-0-0 outing, HOPLITES has advanced 9 places in the rankings. BLOOD AND
GUTS! is no joke as it posted a 4-1-1 week advancing from 3rd place to 1st place.
Call it luck at the right time or bribes in the right hands, but the new team BOTTOM
FEEDER scored a 4-1-1 record this week. Hey everybody, watch out for SEVERITY, who
flew up 25 points in the rankings after mashing GANGRENE like a melon. Keep your eye
on this guy. And falling like a basher in the top ten was BRAIN TUMOUR, who dropped
13 points after a disappointing (to say the least) bout with HORRID HOLLY. Well
here's a duelmaster that doesn't sit back and say 'Challenge me'! INSOLENT IRIS made
a challenge against PANDEMIC this week. Going for the gusto and coming up with aught
but bloody knuckles was DARK RAIDERS' PANDEMIC, who was turned away from the
Duelmastership by INSOLENT IRIS. Advice to bashers--never force anything, just get a
bigger halberd!
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the FRATSFA arena. Did you
hear that BLOOD AND GUTS! was most avoided team this week? Well, knowing the
personal hygiene of BLOOD AND GUTS!'s warriors, I'm not surprised! And you guys like
to boo me? Well, unsling your rasberries, cause ODIN'S CHOSEN beats feet every time
BLOOD AND GUTS! smiles at them. Try farming, eh? Well just about everybody wants a
piece of PANDEMIC, who was this week's most challenged warrior. In a touching
display by a 'touched' warrior, KYKENSTIENBURG went after VICIOUS, who was higher by
25 points. Well, when the dust settled, KYKENSTIENBURG defeated VICIOUS. LORD DAVOS
of SILVER KNIGHTS had better have a good reason for challenging down 9 points in a
challenge which he won. I thought LORD DAVOS showed great skill and promise when he
subdued OAK LEE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Death is kind of like a new puppy: he's always around wanting to play. (Ha
Zontani, how's that for a wise saying?). There's got to be more reason for the
sending of TENTPEG TROLL to the Dark Arena than his record (4-2-0). Anybody got any
ideas SPRINGBORNE FAIR? Carrion Bird Cinematic Humor: GANGRENE II: THE REMATCH.
We might as well mark the passing of RAMBLING ROSE, who was relatively new to the
arena at 5-1-0. Probably killed before hers first shave. Congrats to ORIGAMI ORC
for revenging the death of its teammate (but more importantly, feeding MAYHEM a bit
of dirt). Ask not the elves for counsel, for they will say both yes and no. Silly
buggers, eh?
Well, there's the manager of the FRATSFA giving me the 'cut' sign (or is that
'They're going to strangle you in the alley?). Okay, so I may not be the world's
best comedian, but then you guys aren't the world's best warriors. Its been fun, and

Toker -- I agree with Ghab about doing away with the bonus points for being most
avoided. Managers should be penalized for avoiding fights, not rewarded for being
avoided! After all this is war! While we're at it, I would also do away with the
stylemaster points simply because it gives an unfair advantage to managers who have
warriors at the top before the contest even begins. Example: Ghab, Fanthayne, and
Lady Fern have each gained six points from stylemasters, while Crip has netted 11
thus far. I think you could offer a bonus to the highest upchallenge (double for
winning it) or a negative for lowest downchallenge (double for losing it) as listed
in the spy report. Also, you could take the one TP per team a little further and
specify that each warrior must be of a different style to qualify for points. These
are my suggestions, though I'm having a blast and I'll be here for the next one

contest began. It doesn't take a genius to see what you're doing! Win your battles
on the sands instead of relying on stylemaster points. I think you should stop
running your slashers for a couple of turns to give someone else an opportunity to

infinite wisdom, doesn't DO formatting, which means having to unsnarl your personal
