It is a sad day for The Flower Girls. Very sad. It doesn't happen often, but
it has to in this case. So sad.
Mad Magnolia has developed a serious physical ailment. Indeed it is a cancer in
the brain. We are all so sad. After seemingly losing strength in the arena, she
went to the doctor and the growth was detected. A strength raise was tried first to
improve the damage-doing ability. But she remained at reduced damage and was unable
to swing hard. Indeed, she lost her will to fight in the arena.
Luckily, she has found a sugar-daddy who wants to take care of her and love her
for the rest of her life. She was unwilling to reveal his/her name, but she has
arranged to meet him in the Dark Arena, where he will sweep her off into a loving,
caring existence.
We will miss her. As a tribute, we offer this testament to Mad Magnolia. May
she live the rest of her life well.

She was young and new, and while seldom, these things do happen. We will pray for
her peace.

A man sat in his keep looking at all the dust that had accumulated in his
absence. He had taken Morik and the others of his keep with him when he left
Alastari, not knowing if he was to return in this lifetime. Just sitting here in
this once great keep brought back memories of when this man and his compatriots had
waged war and desolation upon those who had chosen to be their enemies.
However, like all things based upon aggression and desolation, it had come to an
end with inner conflicts. Now, as the man came out of his revelries, he realized
that it was time to move forward and forge a new future. He reached into his desk
and felt, and as his fingers brushed that object he sought for, he felt a shiver run
up his spine. He never did care for things of an arcane nature, but also knew they
were necessary at times.
It was a coin styled object, made of a metal he couldn't put a name to. He ran
his tumb over a symbol that was surrounded by strange lettering and thought about the
day he and Wasby the Great had parted ways.
Wasby had told him, "If indeed you do return to our great Alastari and need me
and/or my powers, use this coin by just holding it in your hand and thinking of me.
I will appear."
So that is exactly what this man, known across Alastari as Toker, did now.
"Yes, come, my brother Wasby, and let us rebuild our legacy and forge new bonds
and a future without dispute!"
He knew Wasby wouldn't be long, so he sat back and considered the future. He
had already put into motion his return to the many cities he once enjoyed. Now, he
would have to search Alastari for some old ties and like-minded individuals.
With those thoughts, he sat back, lit his pipe, and poured a glass of a clear
liquid he enjoyed, and awaited his friend.

Lenpro looked at the mob in frustration. It had surged in on the Karnhorn-
looking heckler, so that he and Sunflower were now on the outskirts. And from the
sound of it, injury was being done, to the heckler for a start, and probably to
others. His first impulse was to leap into the thick of it and try to stop things,
but that would be folly. A magician who knew just what to do might stop this many-
headed beast, but nobody else was likely to. He wasn't going to waste time trying.
"Can you find which way the kidnapped women were taken?" he asked Sunflower.
Sunflower jerked her wide-eyed attention away from the swirling violence and
nodded. "Yes." She took a deep breath. Violence in the arena, planned and agreed
to, or even violence in an alley, one-on-one, were things she understood and
accepted. This was different, and in ways she couldn't articulate yet. But two
young women kidnapped was something she could get her mind around. "He... he told
me. That man. When I first heard about the kidnapping, he told me the, well, he
said Aruaki--werecats, anyway--he said they went toward the Old Ruins."
No point in cursing the facts, but Lenpro wasn't happy about it. The Old Ruins
was the oldest part of the city, long deserted and little more than a maze of rubble.
Even vagrants didn't go there in search of shelter, they went to the New Ruins, or to
slums like this one. The Old Ruins dated back before the last Chaos War, and they
were said to be contaminated with magic-gone-bad, and haunted by vicious ghosts and
other monsters.
"Then we'd better go that way," Lenpro said. "Someone else may have noticed
something between here and there."
"Are we just going to leave this?" Sunflower waved a hand at the packed crowd
from which shouts, screams, and the too-familiar sounds of violence were rising.
"We have to, child. There's nothing we can do here to make any kind of
difference, and we'd get ourselves killed if we tried."
"But it's wrong to do nothing!"
"Yes, but it would be wrong to throw our lives away, too. Sometimes choices are
hard, and there's no right answer." Lenpro started walking.
She hurried to keep up with him. "I don't like it." Took a deep breath. "I
guess I have to live with it anyway, don't I?"

Fandil frowned at the young magician facing him. He was a Fratsfan, tall, slim,
blond, a bit of a dandy in his dress, but also very earnest. "I... we felt your
probing, sir, just before the blast and wondered whether, well--"
"The 'blast' as you call it," Fandil said, "what do you make of that?"
The young man shrugged and looked uncomfortable. "I... we aren't sure what to
'make' of it," he said. "We have debated it often--this wasn't the first. There
were two previous blasts much like it. Some believe it to be an attack, although
they disagree as to who is being attacked. Others claim it's purely defensive,
although defensive against what we don't know."
Fandil sighed. He had almost hoped this young man would be unimportant. Not a
complication. But the fellow clearly had useful data, at the least. "This 'we' you
refer to...?"
The young magician pulled himself up straighter and taller. "The Graduating
Class of 523 from the Frafrejan Academy of the Magical Arts! Ah, sir. There are six
of us now--since Larsenjo died. The first blast caught him wide open. His head
exploded." He swallowed a couple of times. "I was there. It was really horrible."
And startling, as well, Fandil thought. A most unlikely result of such a spell.
But there were aspects of that spell or blast which, looking back, he realized were
definitely not normal. Ah, make that, not in the commonly established mode of
magical practice.
"So, you have discussed and debated this matter," Fandil said. "Have you done
any research on it, reached any conclusions? By the way, what's your name?"
"Elosjon, sir. We, um, we didn't like to do any probing right after that first
blast. Because of what happened to Larsenjo. But after a little while, we did try
to backtrack the traces. It wouldn't have worked at all except for the, I don't know
what to call it, the different flavor? Of the magic in the blast."
"And what did you find?" Why had nobody taught this young man to make a proper
report? It was like pulling teeth to get information out of him.
"We did finally narrow down the origin point for it," Elosjon said. "It comes
to Fratsfa from the west, from the northern end of the Daggerspines."
"Do you blame it on the Aruaki, then?"
The young mage sighed. "We wanted to, we really did. They're so untrustworthy
it just seemed natural that it might be them. But it isn't. At least, we're pretty
sure it isn't. Not the Clanholds territory, anyway. It seems to be coming from
around Mountain Home somewhere."
"Didn't there used to be some kind of independent duchy around Mountain Home?"
Lady Fern asked. "I seem to remember hearing that the last duke fought the formation
of the Andorian League bitterly, and lost, leaving the line vacant."
"I don't know about the title," Elosjon said, "but there was a son, very young
then, and he'd only be just beginning to be old if he's still alive. They were pure
Fratsfan, and naturally long-lived. My grandfather told me about him. The boy went
off somewhere to study magic and nothing's been heard about him since."
"Meaning there could be a fully mature magician in Mountain Home who might be
holding a grudge against the Andorian League," Fandil said. "An unpleasant thought,
but still, valuable information. I was going to go to Andor, but perhaps I should go
to Mountain Home first...."

                             Notes from the arena champ.

Strange that I should be here. Brain Tumour was the DM, and lost to Tealin
Sali, so rightfully, Tealin Sali should be our DM, and not I. Come to think of it,
none of the Middle Way 8 warriors are listed in the newsletter rankings. Out of
respect to Jorja's right to the throne, we'll be going on hiatus from the sands until
we can see that this has been fixed.

                                      SPY REPORT

Oh, hi. Its just little 'ol Debby Tonte. Thought I'd check out FRATSFA to see
what's new. Like, THE ORDER had to be so embarrassed when they got kicked off #1
spot by BLOOD AND GUTS!! Way to go BLOOD AND GUTS!! The guys at SILVER KNIGHTS like
really pulled together to get a 4-1-0 this turn, moving up by 3. What was the name
of that team who got 3-1-0 this turn for a total 100-79-5 you ask? (Sure) BLOOD AND
GUTS!'s their name, and fighting's their game! MVP award for LE CITOYEN? BLOOD AND
GUTS!'s proud of him after beating ANASTRIANNA and getting 25 points. Talk about yer
big time losers! ANASTRIANNA got smashed by LE CITOYEN, and lost 17 points! What a
putz! PULLED HAMSTRING fights so hard to be Duelmaster, then quits fighting and
loses the title. No one said it was a genius... Was that a tear I saw in SER VON
DARKMOOR's eye, as he took over Duelmastership? And wasn't TEALIN SALI fit to be
tied! I hear the top team insists all their warriors get nine hours sleep. They
want photogenic fighters for PR photos.
So just why would someone becomes a warrior anyway? It can't be for these
really neat Spyreports can it? OTTO'S PARTS was the most avoided team. Is a
284-267-13 record really that scary? Is there some deep dark secret why SILVER
KNIGHTS' been avoiding OTTO'S PARTS so much? Or is it just that they're too scared?
Like, is ZOUM LA BOUSE popular, or what? He was challenged the most in all of
FRATSFA! He's got a 3-1-0, is that good? Ooh! Did SER VON DARKMOOR really know
what he was doing when he challenged TEALIN SALI? A 11-6-1 speaks volumes. (Zontoni
said that. I don't know what it means.) SER VON DARKMOOR was so studly out there in
the sands! Beating TEALIN SALI and getting 31 points. SILVER KNIGHTS must be proud,
for sure!
Man, all these warriors dying and killing each other! Don't you guys ever give
it a break? What if they had a fight and nobody showed up? I'd be out of a job,
that's what!!!
Remember, blood on a purple robe may stain. Soak it in cold water, and hand
wash. I gotta leave. FRATSFA is like such a dump, and you guys smell too much! I
had a fun time, see you later-- Debby Tonte

Congratulations Pulled Hamstring for your Duelmastership. Your manager strategizes
with the best of them! -- Lady Fern

Two! Wow! Nice challenge and well done! You will have to come over to The Flower
Shoppe and show me all your tricks, you Devil! -- Harsh Hawthorn

Pulled Hamstring -- See. The time you spent in The Flower Shoppe last night paid
off. There was nothing wrong with your hamstring in that one-sided exhibition. You
got the moves, Hotty! -- Outcast Orchid

Salina Rees -- Girls just wanna have fun, and I did with you. Let's play some more!
-- Torturing Tulip

Tapout -- I didn't have it. You did. I guess I had a headache. let's try again
when I am better, and in my room at The Flower Shoppe. Bring that big weapon.
(wink) -- Mad Magnolia

Toker -- Flirting? Me flirting?! I am sorry your wife was jealous. I would rather
flirt with her anyway. Why don't you buy her a gift certificate to The Flower
Shoppe. Roses downstairs and pleasantries upstairs. The whole treatment! Both of
your lives will be better for it. (wink) -- Lady Fern

Debby Tonte -- I apologize. You were right, of course. Your arrival does make parts
of Fratsfa a dump. -- Lady fern

Sizzling Sunflower was a blessed gal; good luck to her! --Le Pentarque.

Well, Harsh Hawthorn, you are putting it the nice away. Pathetic little me had been
said almost the same thing, but the other way round! -- Irminsul.

Two will be sitting out until the April tournament, and Zoum la Bouse after the
ongoing turn.

Toker -- I will attend the Quest 2, and I would enjoy the June date proposal from
Lady Fern. -- Le Pentarque.
P.S. I would enjoy many ideas from Lady Fern eyes closed.
P.P.S. No news from Blackstorm, alas, but lets hope he is going to return one of
these days.

Lady Fern -- Yeah, that sounds good, and I will host. I enjoyed it last time! It's
good to be back! -- Toker

Crip -- Nice challenge with Fat Lip! I just might have to clean up a little over the
next few months to be ready for the Quest! -- Toker

Le Pentarque -- You going to stay for the Quest? (June 15, T-258) It would be a
pleasure to compete against you again! -- Toker

Expatriate -- Naw, it's just Toker for now! -- Toker

Torak -- Yeah, it has been awhile. -- Toker

Raven -- Play however you want, just as long as you have fun. That'sall that
matters! -- Toker

Raven -- Bum, bum, bum, another one bites the dust! Ha ha! -- Jasker

Lady Fern -- Don't even think about avoiding. My warriors always welcome the company
of your girls. Even Anastrianna. -- Torak

L.O.D. -- I repeat: "Crossing blades with The Order is never wise." You may be
laying roses at the feet of those who beat me, but it is I who am laying roses on the
graves of your warriors. -- The Order

All -- Why do I keep fighting Fratsfa's city officials? Is everyone afraid to face
me? -- Kozak

They need the extra income. The city's budget is tight this year.

Le Citoyer -- You were fast but not fast enough. -- Slothful

Whirling Zone -- Interesting fight. -- Wasted Youth

I do not have big feet. -- Wasted Youth

Sudoku (Darkface) Killa! Sorry, couldn't help myself. Do you hate me now? -- Hated

Le Citoyer -- So do I. -- Hated Man

Le Pentarque -- Sorry about that, my handwriting is bad, maybe I should type my
personals from now on. -- The Expatriate

Raven -- As you wish. Your problem with Torak is between you and him, leave me out
of it. It doesn't look like he needs my help, anyway. -- The Expatriate

Toker -- Okay, where to start? No, I haven't heard from CFH in a long time but he
posted a spot saying he was getting out and would be giving address soon. Why would
I keep in touch with Obnoxious? I'm all for a quest, let me know if there is
anything I can do to help out. Been in contact with Liam any, I'd like to send him a
diplo but don't know if he's still playing. It's good to have you here, this should
get interesting. -- The Expatriate

     North Fork, team Gothic Ministry.

Brain Tumour -- Well, no WONDER you had a headache. How about if we try trepanning?
-- Tealin Sali

Ser Von Darkmoor -- Huh, I didn't realize silver could get rusty, but it seems like
maybe you are? Not that I mind the win! -- Lena Koril

Ser Ilyn Payne -- Don't lie! You DID laugh, I distinctly heard it. -- Rendor Quil

Torturing Tulip -- Gods, woman, don't DO that! Some of us don't like that kind of
thing. -- Salina Rees

Ser Alain Stronghand -- A strong hand is great, don't get me wrong, but I'm pretty
sure that a fast blade is greater. -- Ollie Quonsham
P.S. Well, unless you're a Kung-Fu Master.

We salute all Fratsfans who participated in the tourney. -- Jorja and the Middle Way

It's looking like I won't get more written on the Andorian Succession for this time.
Sorry, but this year's "normal" seems to be "very hectic." Good intentions no
guarantee, and all that. -- the Scribe

The Stealth Warrior effect is being looked into.
