DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Avoids and challenges may be issued by a manager who is striving for better pairings.
Issuing them may counteract the attempts of other managers to do the same.
Frustrations may ensue; after all, someone may not have gotten their way.
There are several reasons an "avoid" may be used.
1) Your fighter's style may be at a disadvantage versus another's style, who may
challenge.
2) If someone challenges your fighter, they may not see the pairing as favorable to
you. You may use "avoids" out of general principle, or to make pairings more
random.
3) You may avoid teams with high win percentages and/or kill rates. You may be trying
to win and keep your fighters alive.
4) You may avoid a pairing in hopes of increasing the changes of an ally (or someone
else) getting the pairing.
There are various reasons to challenge a fighter.
1) A more favorable pairing can increase the likelihood of a win.
2) One may learn more from a more experienced foe.
3) A foe cannot fight an ally if he is already paired.
Ill will more likely to result from a "challenge" than an "avoid". A manager may
wonder if a challenge was meant to kill. Some managers frown on down challenging.
In closing, "avoids" and "challenges" can enable a manager to be more competitive.
Their use, in some cases, may frustrate other managers. This can lead to ill will,
disagreements about what is okay, and vendettas.

before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Of course, we're all terribly impressed
to see WARRIOR X win a fight and gain 26 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, MALICE beat
IMTOOSEXY and IMTOOSEXY lost 39 points. You're breakin' my heart. The Duelmaster's
Dead! Long live the Duelmaster! Ha! BUSHSUCKSTOADIE has killed SNOW in the Title
bout, and this bout ain't over yet! Kickbacks and bribes, kickbacks and bribes, how
else do you think some of these guys win their fights? Skill? Ha!
My mother always told me, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, start
talking.' I loved that woman. FRATSFA, I am losing what little hope I had in you.
INCARNATIONS the most avoided team? What insult will suffice, I cannot say. And it
looks like WEATHER avoided them the most this turn. What a pack of would be losers,
if you ask me. Hmph. MIST was challenged more times this turn than the Duelmaster.
Now was the DM insulted or feared? Heh, heh.
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for FRATSFA's
morgue. More variety. It's about time RAIN got beat for picking on warriors like

In the interest of preserving our natural resources and preventing managerial writer's
cramp, the census form has been eliminated, effective immediately. Managers may
register their warriors' races and/or favorite sayings by simply writing them on a
separate piece of paper and submitting them to the Commission. Each warrior may have
up to 15 favorite sayings. Each saying must be categorized Jeer, Gloat, Boredom, Ouch,
Victory and may be up to 70 characters long. For any questions, please contact the
Gladiatorial Commission.

Our next winter FTF will be held in Tempe, Arizona, January 15-17, 2016. It will be
held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Tempe, Arizona (480-897-7444), the same hotel as
