                                      SPY REPORT

Well, what are you looking at, FRATSFA? Ain't you never seen Snide Clemens
before? Ah, shaddup and listen to my news. Later days, ASSASSIN NATION, since
OTTO'S PARTS took top team from you this turn, you guys are old news. Now let's all
watch MIDDLE WAY 8's heads swell from their 5-0-0 this turn. Haa ha ha ha! Big
shots, big talk, big deal. Of course, we're all terribly impressed to see FERNY ROSS
win a fight and gain 19 points, terribly. Tsk, tsk, TENNESSE SMITH beat TWO HANDS
and TWO HANDS lost 8 points. You're breakin' my heart. Going for broke or broken,
our Duelmaster THE PINK JESTER Dark Arena Challenged this turn. The crowds were
amazed this turn, as THE PINK JESTER killed the Duelmaster, CLUB FOOT, leaving OTTO'S
PARTS in mourning. This incredible death has allowed, I might add, DELTA CYGNI from
CYGNUS to ascend to the throne of Duelmaster, and I hear DARK ARENA is not happy.
The Victory Tavern, humph! I've tasted better ale at mortuaries. Where do they get
this stuff? From FRATSFA's trash dumps?
He who fights and runs away will live to fight another day, the coward. What's
the big D? IRON CATHEDRAL was the most avoided team? Bunch of lily livered...
grumble... mumble... curse... And who led the way in this mass act of cowardice?
Let's see, well, whatcha know? It was OTTO'S PARTS. Ha ha ha ha! Ooh, I'm
frightfully impressed, DELTA CYGNI was this turn's most challenged warrior. Watch
that ego swell, sports fans. I suspect either a 21 will or a 21 ego on this one, but
SHACKLED PRIEST has challenged up by 49 in an attempt against DELTA CYGNI. Not that
I'm surprised or anything, but SHACKLED PRIEST was subdued by DELTA CYGNI, leaving
the latter lower for recognition points.
Some people like volunteer work in the hospitals. I volunteer for FRATSFA's
morgue. More variety. Honor is like a chainmail shirt, it only shines through use.
Certain nameless cowards will doubtless rebuke me on this one.
There's got to be a better place in FRATSFA to get a drink than The Victory
Tavern! Any suggestions? Well, I've had enough of this drivel, and I'm sure you
have too. Off like a dirty shirt of padded leather. Paste this one in your
scrapbooks, you'll need the kindling come this winter-- Snide Clemens

                       TURF WAR XII -- TW12 (Rev 8-8-20)
(Start turn after FTF or Mailer JAN 2021)

Bring acclaim and glory to the North Fork (DM47)

TURF WARS is a team event and unlike all other events in D2, involves "certs."

Anyone may participate; known alliances, new alliances, thrown-together alliances, or
temporary alliances created solely to compete in the Turf War! To participate, each
alliance or participant must:

1. Announce an Alliance Name, Captain, and Assistant of the alliance in the North
Fork (DM 47) newsletter or on the RSI site.

2. Determine and submit either 1 or 2 or 3 certificates per participant. Amounts can
be different per alliance participant. (See Scoring section for more details.)

3. Each participating team must run in DM47 on one of the three turns prior to the
start of TW12 so that the team shows in the last newsletter prior to the 1st TW12
    turn.

At the end of the game, Captains are responsible for distributing any winning
certificates to the team participants.

No alliance scores can be tabulated until the chosen amount of RSI Gift Certificates
are received, the teams are listed in the newsletter, and participant indication and
captain confirmation are posted in the North Fork newsletter.

All entry certs should be sent to Oz or The Consortium via RSI.

Only one (1) team per player/manager may compete in the Turf Wars, and only one team
per player/manager may compete in North Fork DM47 during the Turf War. No arena
multiple teams or aliases will be allowed. Violations will result in immediate manager
disqualification (including team point adjustments) from the Turf War (so be sure to
take any multiple teams OFF of Team Maintenance and be certain not to run any other
team warriors). NOTE: Since alliances require two teams, this would mean the remaining
alliance member cannot score in the TW.

Any Turf War team must show/be posted/listed in the DM47 Newsletter just prior to
their actual scoring/participation. (E.g. New teams, transfers, current teams must
show up in the newsletter prior to the beginning of participation, allowing opponent
knowledge and challenging/avoiding.) Manager/teams may not participate/score in the
Turf War the same turn they are first posted in the newsletter. (So get your team in
the newsletter early.) Teams do not have to run that turn prior to TW12-T1, but will
have had to run shortly before to allow their warriors to be visible in the newsletter
just prior to TW12-T1.

Scoring will NOT be retroactive for teams/alliances that do not properly declare or
get captain confirmation or fail to send a Gift Certificate by Turn 1. In other
words, if your Gift Certificate is not received until Turn 3 of the Turf War, and you
have fought on Turns 1 and 2, your score will not begin until Turn 3. All conditions
must be met before scoring will begin: declaration, confirmation, NL listing, and Gift
Certificate received.

No declarations or confirmations will be accepted after Turn 2 of the Turf War. For
purposes of scoring, the moderators will score the Turf War and settle any and all
disputes as they arise. Their decisions will be final. (Note: the intent is to have a
very thorough set of rules so that few decisions, if any, are required from the
moderators.)

No warrior may be substituted without the proper use of the DA or arena death or death
in a tournament or graduation. There must be a maximum of five only on a team at any
point and time. (The penalty for such substitution is -25 points.)

SCORING will be as follows: Only three things affect scoring. Number of initial certs
submitted, wins, fighting all five warriors, and the round modifier. (Later rounds
have higher modifiers.)

NUMBER OF CERTS SUBMITTED

1. Alliances will start the competition with the amount of points based on the amount
   of certs submitted.

Two certs (1 each, the minimum required) = 0 points.
Three certs total = 3 points for the alliance
Four certs total = 6 points for the alliance
Five certs total = 10 for the alliance
Six certs (the max) total = 15 for the alliances

2. After the sixth and after the eleventh round those same amount of turn starting
points are awarded to each alliance.

3. Hence, alliances may earn up to 45 points through the event via certs. (Note: cert
points are not impacted by the Round Modifier.)

NUMBER OF WINS

1. Each teammate win per round is worth 3 base points. (e.g. 1 win = 3 points, 5 wins
   = 15 points)

FIGHT ALL FIVE WARRIORS

1. Each turn there is a +3 base point bonus for each teammate fighting all five
   warriors

2. Each turn there is a -3 base point penalty for each teammate not fighting all five
   warriors.

ROUND MODIFIER

1. The first 6 rounds of TW12 are scored at 1x base points. (Base points includes win
scoring, and any all-5 bonus/penalty, but not any cert scoring)

2. The 7th through 11th rounds are scored at 2x base points.

3. For the final and 12th round, base point scoring is at x3.

Special Considerations:

1. There will be NO alliance or team changes once the contest has begun. If you begin
the Turf War with Alliance X, you must end the Turf War with Alliance X. If you
begin the Turf War with Team X, you must end the Turf War with Team X.

2. Each alliance is comprised of two and only two managers.

3. The Dark Arena may be used without penalty. (Limit twice per warrior.)

4, If at any time, the Moderators determine that any non-TW team in the arena is
aiding and/or abetting any TW alliance or team, the affected points won by the
gifted team/alliance will be disallowed and the aiding non-TW team will be asked to
desist from play in the arena until after the Turf War concludes.

PRIZES

Certs: The winning alliance gets 70% of the pooled certs. Second place alliance gets
20%, and third place gets 10%.

***---------*---------*---------*---------**---------*---------*---------*---------***

                     SECOND DELUXE ARVAT CONTEST EXTRAORDINAIRE

Who can join? Anyone with a team in Arvat as of 11/1/2020.

When does it start? First turn due after 11/1/2020.

How long does it run? 13 turns.

How do I join? Announce your manager name and team name in the Arvat newsletter prior
to 11/1/2020 and state that you are entering the contest. Prior to the contest
actually starting you need to have 2 rollup certs sent to the Dark One care of RSI.
No sheets, no contest.

How do I win the contest? The team which has accrued the most points as of the end of
the 13th turn is the winner. The team which has the 2nd most points is declared the
runner up. And the team which has the 3rd most points is declared honorable
contender. Everyone else is a loser and should be ridiculed.

How do I score points?

1. Every challenge you win vs. another team in the contest = 10 points, as long as
that challenge is to a warrior equal to or above yours in the rankings. Except
for the Duelmaster who can challenge anyone he wants.

2. You also earn bonus points for every challenge won. For every point of
recognition your target is ranked above you, you earn one bonus point. This is
    for challenges only.

3. If you are challenged by a warrior below you and defeat him, you will gain 5
    points.

4. Also every random matchup that you win will earn you 5 points ? up or down.

5. You CAN downchallenge, however you get no points for doing so, and if you are
beaten, your opponent will earn 10 points and the right to ridicule you in the
    newsletter.

6. Bloodfeud challenges count just like regular challenges during the contest.

7. In addition there are the following bonus points that are awarded each turn:

 A. Duelmaster earns 10 points

 B. Graduating a warrior earns 10 points

 C. Recognition Leader (Chartered or Unchartered) earns 5 points (if the Duelmaster
is the recognition leader as well, then only the DM points apply)

 D. Popularity Leader earns 5 points

 E. Turn?s most popular earns 5 points

 F. Top team on the move earns 5 points

 G. Current Top team earns 10 points

 H. Any warrior that earns a Tournament Champion in either the January FTF or April
     Mail In earns 20 points

 I. Any warrior that earns a Tournament Victor in either of those tournaments earns
     10 points

 J. Note that Top Chartered and Unchartered team awards do NOT earn points

What are the rules regarding other teams in the arena? If you challenge any warriors
not participating in the contest you LOSE 20 points, unless the challenged warrior is
the Duelmaster. It is always acceptable to challenge the Duelmaster. HOWEVER ? if
you are challenged by a team not in the contest, you may challenge back the following
turn. If you win that challenge you will get 10 points.

If any manager has a 2nd (or 3rd) team in the arena they may NOT challenge any warrior
of any team participating in the contest or they are DISQUALIFIED.

What do I win if I win this contest?

1. The winner wins all of the rollup certificates given as entry fee for the contest.
In addition, the winner gets to pick 3 of the prizes below.

2. The runner up gets to pick 2 of the prizes below.

3. The honorable contender gets to pick one of the prizes below.

In addition, all competitors in the contest who run all 13 turns and at least 62 total
fights will earn a potion of +1 bonus, which must be used on a warrior who
participated at least 1 fight in the contest.

Also, the team that scores the most points on any one turn of the contest (other than
the winner, runner up or honorable contender) can pick one prize that was NOT selected
by those three.

Prize Pool:

Once a prize is picked it is removed from the pool.

1. Limited stat switch (You can swap any 2 stats you want on an Arvat replacement
rollup that you receive within the next 6 month)

2. Extra replacements (Next time you get a replacement (or whenever you want within 6
months) in Arvat you can ask RSI for 5 additional replacements and select the best
    one for your team)

3. Limited damage bump (You can pick one warrior on your Arvat team to move up one
damage class ? as long as he remains in-bounds for his ST/SZ stats)

4. Favorite weapon knowledge (You learn the favorite weapon of one of your Arvat
warriors ? must be on the team during the contest)

5. Favorite rhythm knowledge (You learn the favorite offensive effort and activity
level of one of your Arvat warriors, who most have been on your team during the
    contest.)

6. Shrinking potion (You get to take 3 points of size away from an Arvat replacement
during the next 6 months and add the 3 points to another stat ? both SZ and the
other stat must remain in bounds)

7. Extra skills (Any one of your warriors in Arvat learns 3 extra skills of your
choice (no more than 2 can be in the same area and must be in bounds)

8. Extra train (Any one of your Arvat warriors gets an extra stat train in the area
of your choice ? and must be in bounds)

9. Limited protection from death (Pick one of your Arvat warriors and for 5 turns
from application of this prize, that warrior will come back from the dead if he
dies in the arena. No DAing and no tourneys)

All prizes must be applied within 6 months from the end of the tournament, must be on
Arvat warriors from the team that participated in the contest and all prize results
must be in bounds.

Ironhand, the owner of The Golden Ship Inn, stood before the small crowd that had
gathered and motioned for his guests to have a seat with a sweeping wave of the steel
hook that had replaced his right hand after a bloody engagement between his ship and
another ten years ago.

Because of the location of The Golden Ship Inn, standing on a headland overlooking the
main harbor on Kaltos, the disrepair of the dilapidated Kaltos Arena could not be
seen. From the turret on top of the inn, one could look across to Lord Lindharrow's
castle on the opposite horn of the little bay and see all the shipping sheltered
within.

But this evening was not about castles and shipping, but rather how a once magnificent
Kaltos Arena could possibly be restored to some of its former glory.

Although Lindharrow of Vandal's Bay is the Protector of Kaltos, the island's
representative on the Crown Council and the closest thing to a governor, it was not
Lindharrow that Ironhand had brought before the gathered crowd, but rather it was
Arenamaster Troktai and another rather special guest. There are few laws in Kaltos
and those that exist are not rigorously enforced, which is why Ironhand chose to
invite Arenamaster Troktai to address the issue of the dilapidated Kaltos Arena.

Arenamaster Troktai got directly to the point, without a lot of pomp and circumstance,
by introducing a Veteran Manager, known far and wide as Hammer, who had recently
returned to Alastari. One of his motivations for returning was to host a contest in a
fast arena that would hearken back to the glory of the Hammer hosted Morya Madness
that had begun over 17 years ago and concluded over 15 years ago: 28 rounds of Madness
in Morya Arena that Hammer desired to emulate in Kaltos arena for 25 rounds!

Hammer stood before the small crowd to unveil his plan to rejuvenate Kaltos Arena (DM
5) at the behest of Arenamaster Troktai, including an announcement of the upcoming
Kaltos Kaos contest to be held in the currently sparsely populated Delarq Arena (4 of
7 active in Kaltos arena as of turn 912). Kaltos arena had fallen into a bit of
disrepair with the sparse revenue generated from even sparser crowds, but the much
needed revenue from a 25 turn contest beginning with T-926 (due date 2/1/21) and
ending with T-950 (due date 1/3/22) would provide more than enough for repairs and
improvements for the overall prosperity of Kaltos Arena!

Hammer had also succeeded in purchasing the northeast section of Kaltos arena to build
his Klub Kaltos, as an act of good faith that the Kaltos Kaos contest would attract
enough managers, both old and new, to pump new life into a once glorious arena! Klub
Kaltos would feature some of the finest dining and gambling venues that Kaltos had
ever seen, plus provide a training area and housing for the stable that Hammer was
entering for the Kaltos Kaos.

Five of his retired Lord Protectors had been lured by the Veteran Manager to help make
Klub Kaltos a success, by providing future patrons the opportunity to rub shoulders
with some of his legendary Lord Protectors from the early years of Hammer's managerial
history.

Zebra of Jungle Fever (DM 39), a Total Parry with a Short Sword as his favorite
weapon, who was the only Hammer-managed warrior to ever TV in a tourney, had agreed to
oversee the dining area and mingle with the crowd. He had won a TV in a Novices
tourney (1 or 2 FE) long ago at a Tempe Facer, before the Novices tourney had been
eliminated from tournaments by the Gladiatorial Commission.

Death Duck 1, a Basher with a Morningstar favorite weapon, along with Death Duck 7, a
Piker favoring a Small Shield as her favorite weapon, had both fought in Kaltos Arena
years ago as representatives of Da Deadly Ducks, the first Hammer managed stable to
ever run in Kaltos. Da Deadly Ducks duo were now assigned as celebrities to run the
Klub Kaltos gambling facilities.

Mahatsawd, a Basher favoring a Mace as his favorite weapon, along with Madkawraw?s
Law, a Ripper favoring an Epee as her favorite weapon, were both from the veteran
manager?s first-ever stable that began fighting on Noblish Island under the Milchamah
banner.

Hammer introduced the duo as two of his favorite warriors from his original stable,
Milchamah, who the veteran manager had convinced to come to Klub Kaltos to train the
stable that Hammer was entering in the Kaltos Kaos Klassick Kontest Kompetition. Klub
Kaltos, the veteran manager explained to the gathered crowd, included a gladiator
training facility where his stable of warriors, who Hammer was entering in the Kaltos
Kaos, would be housed for training in private as well as featured in some public
exhibition matches for his gambling facilities.

A ripple of excited cheers arose from the five Gladiators that had been languishing in
oblivion these past several years during the absence of the veteran manager, their
stable all-but-forgotten, but Hammer raised both his hands and stared somberly at his
rusty relics, before announcing publicly:

"You have been transferred to Storm Point arena!"

The Veteran Manager had to break the news to his Kaltos Kriminals (514) stable that
they had been transferred to Storm Point Arena (DM 86) because of two of the contest
categories that were to be the highlights of the Kaltos Kaos (as had the same two
categories also been the contest category highlights in the original Morya Madness
contest that Hammer had hosted those many long years ago!), namely, the First Initiate
Duelmaster and the Top Ten Fighting Styles. Obviously, the only eligible warriors to
win this prize are those who are listed in the Initiates rankings on the first
round/Turn 926 or later! Therefore, the Kaltos Kriminals with 4 arena fight
experience, namely Assault N Battery, Wanted For Murder, Shady Larry LaRue and Trick
Ponie Polly, would probably not be eligible to compete for the First Initiate
Duelmaster [after fighting in either one or both of the two upcoming tourneys], nor
for one of the Top Ten Fighting Styles!

Upon hearing "You have been transferred to Storm Point arena!" the Kaltos Kriminals
were crestfallen!

The RSI approved prize for the First Initiate Duelmaster is the opportunity
to rename the DM 5 arena for 6 months.

The RSI approved prize for each of the Top Ten Fighting Styles is the
favorite weapon knowledge reveal for any one of a contest-registered team?s
active warriors on round 25/Turn 950. Eligible warriors must declare their
name and fighting style in the DM 5 personal ads on the first round that they
enter the Kaltos Kaos. All warriors must have 0 arena fight experience to
enter as a Top Ten Fighting Style competitor and must rank as an 0-1 or 1-0
Initiate after their first arena fight experience!

In other words, any warrior ranked as a Challenger Initiate with more than one arena
fight experience after their fight debut is automatically disqualified to compete for
one of the Top Ten Style awards, so choose your tournament entries wisely! It gives
non-tourney managers the opportunity to compete for a Top Ten Fighting Style prize!
[Tourney warriors may die!]

This obviously eliminates the four Kaltos Kriminals mentioned above, because they
already have 4 arena fights; therefore, only Cooking The Books would be eligible to
compete with 0 arena fight experience!

First Initiate Duelmaster contenders include every warrior on a registered
team that is ranked as an Initiate after the first round in the DM 5 Turn 926
newsletter. [This includes tourney experienced warriors and warriors who have
fought in DM 5 on previous turns.]

"You have been transferred to Storm Point Arena!" resonated in their ears as Hammer's
Kaltos Kriminals grumbled a bit at being denied the opportunity to compete in the
Kaltos Kaos, which had a rippling effect throughout the sparse crowd. Arenamaster
Troktai stepped forward while Hammer spent a few minutes talking privately to his
Kaltos Kriminals stable.

Arenamaster Troktai raised his hands to quiet the small crowd as he proclaimed that
the winner of the most 'This Week's Most Favorite Warrior' and the winner of the most
'This Week's Least Favorite Warrior' would be awarded the first choice to change the
name and statements of the Dark Arena monster of their choice [with exception of the
Arenamaster himself] and the first choice to change the name and statements of the NPC
character of their choice, respectively.

RSI Prize: Rename and Change the Statements of a DM 5 Dark Arena Monster of
your choice [excepting the Arenamaster] is awarded to the team with the most
'This Week's Most Favorite Warrior' awards listed over the course of the
    contest.

RSI Prize: Rename and Change the Statements of a DM 5 NPC Character of your
choice is awarded to the team with the most 'This Week's Least Favorite
Warrior' awards listed over the course of the contest.

Arenamaster Troktai went on to proclaim that the remaining Dark Arena monsters and NPC
characters that were not chosen by the two winners will be placed in a drawing pool
[to change the name and statements] from which the remaining Kaltos Kaos registered
managers would be selected, as bonus prizes for merely being registered for the Kaltos
Kaos! The first 20 managers to register for the Kaltos Kaos & the host & co-scorer are
guaranteed to automatically be entered in the random draw!

                          Name Change-o-Rama -- Final Update

The Commission's administrative office on the Isle was in a big square building
that looked like any other administrative office building in any national capital.
Standard, boring. Except for the goats. Half a dozen goats were wandering free,
eating the landscaping, and as many clerks were chasing them. A clerk saw them
coming, he looked like a Trustworthy Scribe, and he rushed over to the approaching
gladiators. "Do you know anything about goats?" He gestured helplessly at the hungry
goats. "They're here because of the Name-Change-o-Rama. We donate them to help change
the world, you know."
The gladiators nodded. They'd heard about it, but hadn't thought it would be so
funny to see. "How did you deal with them last time?"
The clerk made a disgusted gesture. "People came and took them away. But the
people didn't come this time. They sent a message about being quarantined! Aren't we
all? And WE get to work! Goats are not in our job description."
One of the gladiators snorted laughter. "We'll help," he said. "Where do you
want them?"

                                       * * * *

Embric, relieved that he had not been appointed goat-herder this afternoon,
carefully dipped his pen in ink and began to write. "It is our pleasure and honor
to note that one hundred and twenty-seven gladiators and teams have elected to change
their names, supporting the contribution of goats to deserving people. With the
Commission's matching funds, this has purchased six goats--a good goat can't be
purchased for a copper, you know. The goats are already en route to their new homes,
where they will be--" He paused and thought about it. "--very welcome. We wish all
the best to the goats and the new goat-owners."

                                    Just a note:

Our DM writers (both staff and players) put quite a bit of effort into writing content
for the newsletters: spy reports, spotlights, and personal ads; fiction and non-
fiction. If you enjoy these, if you want more, or even if they make you laugh, it
would be kind if you could drop a personal ad or even send them a note.

Assur and Consortium, especially, put tremendous effort in Noblish Island, writing new
content and tweaking/correcting older content to help new players learn the game.

A special shoutout should also go to our varied human spy reporters in the ADM arenas,
Seam, Chimlevtal, Shadowspire, Telorinthe, and occasionallly contest arenas.

Kudos and thank you to all of our writers! I'm sure we don't thank you enough.
