DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.
Hello my fellow Rocani,
Well, it finally came: my invitation to the Isle. I wanted it so much, but now
I feel sad. I walked through the town of Rocanis last night, smelling the spiced
beef and shish kebab for sale along the river walk, dodging the drunks being thrown
out of the bars, listening to the laughter of the drovers relaxing in their camps at
the edge of town. There was frozen laundry on the clotheslines behind the houses;
women accessing the mystic network through the Midnight Laundry. A half-dwarven
black orc teetered past me on five-inch high heels, shivering in his fishnet
stockings, on his way to the Wanton Troll. By hoof and horn, I'm going to miss this
place!
Well, my fight with Bitter Vetch was nothing to write home about. Most of you
have fought him. He's good, but if you get the jump on him then that's that.
The Commission says I ought to fight with a longsword. Hey, okay, I'll try it
against Deadfall, who I guess will be my opponent next time. Good luck, friend.
That's all I've got to say. I hope you all survive to make it to the Isle and I
hope this arena grows a bit!
Javelino
SPY REPORT
Thankyouthankyou. It's great for me, The Unknown Spymaster to be back in
ROCANIS. Hope you enjoy the show. Oh, who am I kidding? I already got paid! Our
battling duelmaster JAVELINO has managed to hold the title, fending off DEADFALL's
none too subtle advances. Better luck next time, BAD APPLES. An apple a day keeps
the doctor away, but an onion a day keeps T.P.s at bay.
Let's dig a little deeper into what's happening in the ROCANIS arena. Here's a
song for you: Who's afraid of the big, bad PUNCH-OUT!? Big bad PUNCH-OUT!. Big bad
PUNCH-OUT!. ROCANIS' afraid of the big bad PUNCH-OUT!. Tra la la la la! Okay, so I
may not be funny, but catch YIELD's act in the arena. Those acrobats seem to be
fairly deft at running from PUNCH-OUT!. And who is this BITTER VETCH you ask, with
65 points and a 17-12-0 record. Ooh, the tales I could tell! In a touching display
by a 'touched' warrior, WISHLIST went after BITTER VETCH, who was higher by 22
points. Well, when the dust settled, WISHLIST won victory over BITTER VETCH.
CONTRABAND of YIELD had better have a good reason for challenging down 12 points in a
challenge which he won. I thought CONTRABAND showed great skill and promise when he
defeated CANDY APPLE. All right, so I slept through it! Big deal!
Being a spy is great--other people die and you spend the rest of the day
drinking to their memory. Better tanked than dead! Here's some advice: warriors
with little wit and will may encounter problems on the trail to the Isle.
I think I had better cut this one short. It's been nice chatting to those of
you whom I have not offended yet. Well, there goes another Spy Report. Good luck in
next week's fights. See ya next time I'm on this circuit!-- The Unknown Spymaster

Wishlist -- Ho ho ho! I am Hedgehog, hear me roar! AND, I learned a parry skill! --
Hedgehog
Candy Apple -- Men! Can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em. But sometimes you can wear
them out. -- Hedgehog
Bitter Vetch -- Day job? Day job? Hear me roar! -- Hedgehog
Bitter Vetch -- You have to stay standing up! It's vital to this sport! Nobody ever
wins from their knees or from lying flat on the ground. Do they? -- Javelino
Deadfall -- Six cows and a bull, heck yeah! It all depends on the bull, you know.
Some of them will go out there and recruit on their own. You've got to insist on
being able to choose your bull. Pick a fast, smart one. Try to give him an
intelligence test before you accept him. Put him behind a strong gate with a latch,
have a nice heifer in season on the other side of the gate, see if he can figure out
the latch. Going straight through the gate or the fence is okay, too. (Don't stand
in his way.) Pretty soon you'll have a lot more than six cows. -- Javelino
Bald Bull -- You're a scary golem. Stay out of dark alleys, because I sometimes find
myself in them and I don't want to meet you there. -- Shanks Pony
King Hippo -- I almost had you. You were staggering with exhaustion. If only you
had gotten less sleep the night before. If only you had accidentally drunk a
sleeping draught right before the fight. I would love to win a fight! -- Eats Grass
Glass Joe -- There is no way you could have learned four skills in that fight. There
weren't even four blows struck. I think you cheated somehow. -- Pronghorn
Contraband -- I don't DO that kind of thing! Honestly, the SUGGESTIONS some people
make! It's disgusting. -- Candy Apple, whose sins are mostly confined to rotting
teeth
Javelino -- Thank Shierah you're finally graduating. YOU probably don't realize it,
but having a pig on the throne here doesn't do much for our image. -- Bitter Vetch
Gods of grass and wind! Why are the Rirorni spying on us NOW? Is there going to be
a new attack? Do we need to start keeping watchers south of town and up on Spirit
Ridge? It's too COLD for standing outside all night! What, I ask you all, is going
ON here? -- Deadfall
Mr. Sandman -- Just because I have a rotten core, you don't have to be MEAN to me.
I'm quite a decent person on the surface, after all, and very trustworthy. -- Rotten
Core
Kid Quick -- Huh. Quickness isn't something I usually associate with Dwarves. Are
you only a Dwarf by pretense? (deep sniff) No, you smell like a Dwarf. (sneeze)
Except for the pepper. Well, I will distrust you awhile yet. After all, GOOD people
don't kick dogs. -- Large Dog
Hedgehog -- What a novel idea! -- Bitter Vetch

Hammer 500-Hammer Run for the Roll Ups
Hosted by Hammer
Niytyole Island DM 33 has dwindled to the point where as of T-482 [duedate
November 3, 2004] there were only 2 active stables listed with 3 inactive stables in
a once thriving and lively regular arena.
During the past 40+ cycles Hammer has been hosting the Hammer Run for the Roll
Ups in DM 33.
Thus far only the Ripper and Slasher categories have produced winners to claim
the 5 New Team Roll Ups Prize for being the first declared Style Master of their
respective categories to graduate.
Every contending stable has gone inactive for one reason or another, including
CASINO HAMMERZ, over the past several months.
Now DM 33 faces the harsh reality that if RSI chooses to close any arenas due to
little or no interest, Niytyole Island could very well head the list of endangered
regular arenas!
In an effort to preserve his beloved island, Hammer is announcing the
continuation of the Hammer Run for the Roll Ups; combined with the Hammer 500 which
will conclude both contests on T-500 [duedate July 13, 2005] should DM 33 continue to
remain open in the coming months.
Attention Hammer Runners!
The Hammer Run is for 0 FE Basic Arena Warriors ONLY. Participants MUST Be
Declared in the P-ads On or Before their First DM 33 Basic Arena Fight to Qualify as
a Hammer Runner! Winners of Each Category will receive 5 New Team Roll Up Gift
Certificates mailed from RSI courtesy of Hammer! [On the condition that they
Graduate on or before T-500; see amended rules below!]
The following Style Master categories remain open with a listing of how many
declared contestants are still entered and their W/L recognition record at the time
of their disappearance from the Hammer Run competition:

500-Hammer Run for the Roll Ups contest!
Any declared warrior who succeeds in graduating by T-500 will win 5 New Team
Roll Ups Gift Certificates mailed from RSI courtesy of Hammer! Gift Certs will be
awarded as soon as possible upon official graduation if the graduation occurs prior
to T-500.

Graduate will win 2 New Team Roll Ups Gift Certificates mailed from RSI courtesy of
Hammer!

SHOULD RSI CHOOSE TO CLOSE DM 33 PRIOR TO T-500 ONLY THE HIGHEST ACTIVE DECLARED
STYLE MASTER CONTESTANTS WILL BE AWARDED TWO (2) GIFT CERTS AND ALL OTHER PRIZE
CATEGORIES WILL BE DECLARED NULL AND VOID BY HAMMER!!!!!!!!!
The purpose of this contest is to restore DM 33 to a lively and entertaining
arena!
Hammer is willing to foot the Prize bill in a last ditch effort to save Niytyole
Island from deletion if RSI and the Gladiatorial Commission decide that more arenas
need to be closed due to lack of participation and interest.
Should this effort fail to spare DM 33 from deletion, then Hammer is prepared to
transfer CASINO HAMMERZ to another arena if Niytyole Island is closed by RSI and the
Gladiatorial Commission.

Battle Royal 4
The Battle Royal arena contests are one of the purest tests of manager skill
available. The rules are simple. The scoring is simple. The updates are live. If
you would like to participate, simply get a team ready in Talcama in the next month
and announce in the personals that you're in. The prize is bragging rights and
having your name along side previous winners (Doc Steele, Manray Frothingslosh, and
Manager). It is a brutal contest, but it is a lot of fun!
Basic rules: No avoiding other contest teams. Score = Wins + Kills - Losses.
Only fights against other BR teams count. First team to 25 wins!
BR4 begins in Talcama (DM 18) on turn 502, due on Jan 29, 2005.
Visit http://www.geocities.com/assurnasir/br4 for more information.

FACE-TO-FACE XXXIV
Our next Winter Face-to-Face will be held on Martin Luther King weekend, Friday
through Sunday, 14-16 January 2005, at the Embassy Suites in Tempe, Arizona (4400 S
Rural Rd--this is the same hotel as last year). Room rates are $139.00 per night,
1-4 occupancy, which includes breakfast. The rooms are blocked. The reservations
number is 480-897-7444; tell them you're with the "Reality Simulations Face to Face
Convention" block. Our room block will be released in mid-December, so please make
sure you reserve your room before then!
Room rates include a full cooked-to-order breakfast and a complimentary two-hour
manager's reception. There is a free shuttle to the airport, as well as free parking.
The hotel is located down the freeway in Tempe. All rooms have high speed internet
(for an extra charge). There is a fitness center, jacuzzi, and pool, and of course a
bar and Mexican restaurant inside the hotel. And there's Denny's right across the
street. Look for transportation info in the tournament information sheet.
The tournament information sheet/strategy sheet should be out sometime in late
November/early December.
If you haven't been to a Face-to-Face before, you're overdue. If you have,
you'll be back. Don't miss this one, it'll be a blast! See you there!
